What did we do to deserve this treat! Wow! From the opening chords onwards, absolutely majestic. This might be the recording that finally upends Horowitz 1968's recording of this sonata for me. Same intensity, power and playfulness. I'm so happy this video is released! Thanks Valentina!
Piano Sonata No. 2, Op. 36 in B♭ minor 00:00 - I. Allegro agitato (B♭ minor) 08:53 - II. Non allegro-Lento (E minor-E major) 16:14 - III. Allegro molto (B♭ major)
Actually I'm pretty sure the third movement begins at 15:39 with L'istesso tempo. That's because it also states attacca subito, which means that there is no pause between the previous movement and the next movement. But I understand the difference in views, because L'istesso tempo is still slow, which you don't expect to be the case for a 3rd movement. As for the performance: bravo Valentina! Exciting and very original and inspiring interpretation, congratulations!
I have seen Valentina playing live in the Netherlands 5 years ago. She was great then already, but for the first time I recognise pianists are like wine, the more they mature the better it is. Valentina is getting better each year. ❤❤❤
Playing is not a matter of memorizing the score, but of reflecting on life. I explain. Those who play and also those who listen, do so according to the life story of each one. Every time you play, you play under the influence of what you live and lived in real life. That is, the only memory that the interpreter uses is the memory of his own life story to interpret the music. The memorized scores practically cease to exist, it's as if the pianist doesn't even know how he is able to play such music, because the music itself has become a living substance in the pianist's soul and time. Likewise, for those who listen too. Only we will understand this. To those who listen to Lady Gaga, never. BUT, of course, I agree with you. I just wanted to philosophize. hahaha

This musical offering is fresh and alive! It's a treat to hear Rachmaninoff's original version of this sonata. It seems there are more complex, contrapuntal interactions in parts. The final movement, especially the ending, is electrifying, as if anticipating the most enthusiastic applause imaginable.
After experiencing a performance of hers, I'm always left with an a grin stretching from ear to ear, as my usually tense face just gradually melts away. Thanks for blessing us, we are grateful.
Magnificent, both the composition and the performance. Love the whole piece but the last few minutes are supremely beautiful. As if it’s from another world.

Your notes on this piece are outstanding. I’m not a musician in any sense but I’m enthralled by the contents and overwhelmed by your musical intellect.
I appreciate that the artist mostly shows his hands. This is how music should be valued. The musical intensity is amplified by the intensity of the connection between the artist and his instrument. Do this with all the videos you create and you will create a historical brand!
I am delighted to see a new video posted. Ive been really sad about everything thats happened in the last few years. An injustice! Bravo Valentina! Shes the best of our generation in my mind, and i wish her good fortune in the near future. Not all westerners are blind.

This particular expression is coming from the expressor of the human: the soul's heart, but sounds like there's some peace missing from the expression. I've played in like expression before (not the skill, just the numbing pain) and wished I had recorded it if only to remember that time. So, in light of this my somewhat presumptive observation, I would hear this again, but loudly, at midnight, on a Monday, on my stereo and not on my phone 😊. Thank you Valentina for this (forgive me) raw and bloody steak that is, if I may be quietly bold, waiting for some heat. I could "hear" the rendition I was thirsting for within it...but it was, to me, dimly obscured in the deeps, within a heart that would be most welcome in many ways.
Beautifully played as ever, even though you look so unhappy, as thousands of us around the world share your unhappiness. Thank you for all you have given us😘

I am an American , but I so respect you Valentina! You are, to me, not only the very best Pianist, but also a remarkable person for standing by your convictions. The world is loosing beautiful music if they turn away from you because you are Russian. I respect all people and understand the political, religious, etc. difference that surround humanity. I don’t believe in this cancel culture. It promotes stagnation and lack of peaceful and intellectual and compassionate growth. I hope for the rest of my time on this planet, I can hear you play and hear you speak of you beliefs and convictions. It’s a powerful message of truth and self respect the world needs to hear to begin to grow again. ❤
She is Ukranian. And as much as I admire her I think she (or pretty much any other living pianist) will never match the level of Vladimir Horowitz, Sviatoslav Richter, Glenn Gould, Cziffra, Alexei Sultanov and other great pianists of the 20th century.
@@bekhruzniyazov6600 She was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, yes, but since the war started she has moved and lives alone in Moscow after getting her citizenship (her husband is here in America driving taxi cab according to her interview recently) She considers the history of Ukraine , during the time it belonged to Russia, as making her Russian, if I understand the interviews I have heard and read translations of in media. Because of her voicing her convictions about her citizenship and heritage, most of the world won’t have her play in their countries because of the current state of political upheaval between Putin and Zelinsky.
