Yeeep. I'm in the same boat. It freaking works, and clients absolutely love that I can shoot video and photos at the same time. I'm using the 24-105 f/2.8 which gives me a ton of range. This camera just makes me feel good.
Love the channel brother. Just subscribed. I've been thinking about getting a Dsmc2 RED Raven so I can have more compression control and alleviate the SDI madness
Would love to see some side by side footage of r5ii and Komodo. Do you think the r5ii clog 2 footage has that same secret sauce the c70 does ? Something about the c70 footage just looks more cinematic and so does the komodo haha.
@@doktorr23 I honestly think the it does have the same sauce. I might do a comparison soon! I sold mine awhile back but I can track one down to do a comparison soon
The WOW factor stops when RED starts(jerking back & forth) and AF stops tracking at iso 1600. 100% agree with your 5 pros. People forgot(Nikon shooters), Canon already raided RED’s raw compression patents, years ago, in exchange for RF/EF AF support on RED bodies. RED, just like ARRI natively supports Canon’s RF/EF lenses, not Nikon, Not Sony. There’s a reason why, Canon have all kinds of raw flavors and bit rates for both stills and video, nobody comes close. For heavens sakes….LMAO, Sony can’t even do internal raw in there ML bodies as of 2024.

Komodo colors are what make the Komodo stand out, and it doesn’t overheat during a 1-hour talking head recording. The R1 is a better choice over the R5 II due to its big battery, lack of overheating, and killer low-light capabilities thanks to the 24MP sensor.
@@rodrigodeantonibrito I would disagree about the Komodo colors. They have never stood out to me after shooting on everything else. In my testing shooting them side by side a few times the R5 ii is incredibly close on colors. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it for the first time. Also the R5 ii does not over heat in 23.98. So the interview would be fine. I also wanted the higher MP for my studio photo work. It’s been an incredible camera. Not even close to the crap we had in the original R5.
@@robtrent4167 ok! For me its another level. The grading possibilies on the Komodo are insane. Im own a Komodo OG and the R3. Will get the R1 probably next month. Low light photos are very important for me.
I’m thinking about buying the R5C soon. Any advice between the R5C and the R5 Mark II? The only reason I’m waiting is to see if the R5C Mark II comes out in 2025 😅
@@yankfr I think the R5 II will serve you better for video personally. Better battery life and you get Clog 2 in 10bit modes. Ive personally not shot on R5C much, I know people like it, but I think the R5 II is a more fully featured camera.
I had R5C, now have R5 Mark II and it is a better option. R5II has features that R5C doesn't - Clog2 (better for dr than clog3), shoots full frame 4K raw lite (R5C crops raw).

Interesting video, thanks! Have you run into any/much overheating at all? Or do you tend to do more “stop-start” shooting? Currently running two R5’s but I’ve just sold one to put an order in on a mark ii. Also have you used the cooling grip at all, and would you think it would be necessary for a more “stop-start” kind of shooting environment? Cheers
@@gavthane hey man thanks for the comment! I have not run into the overheating issue. I’ve had the bar pop up on my screen but never go more than half way! If I’m recording a frame rate that over heats (like 120) it’s much more stop start. When I sit down and film a talking head in 24fps 4k for RUclips (maybe 30min) the temperature bar doesn’t even come up. I’ve held the cooling grip and I wasn’t a big fan. I would recommend getting the R5 ii first and see if you run into any overheating. I think you are gonna be stoked on it!!
apparently there is a dual base iso 800/4000 for LOG+RAW (not sure for standard profiles, generally a stop before, based on r5C/c80)
