I can't explain enough how much I needed this. I couldn't connect with a deaf customer who came in well enough and I really wanted to learn some of the simple techniques to talk to him. Instead of going to learn the basics just to speak to him as a barista, I'm glad I came across your video. I'm glad that I was able to learn quickly so this way when someone else comes in again I'm able to connect to that person. Thank you so much.

I use to for Starbucks and had many deaf customers. I Felt bad because I could not communicate with them. I made it a point to take up ASL classes so that I could communicate with them. The customers are very grateful after that. Honestly think that Starbucks needs to have a basic ASL class for their partners. Seen several deaf customers ignored because they could not communicate with the barista.

Couldn't agree more. I'm just a random customer who was picking up from a location near campus, and I watched one day as an employee lost patience with a deaf customer. I ended up ordering for him. At least I got to meet a new friend.

I work for starbucks now. There's actually going to be a program soon for Sign Language. If you complete the course you can get certified to have the pin for Sign language spelling "Starbucks" in ASL like they have the Bienevedos for spanish speakers. I've already signed up for it when it comes out.

Thank you! We have a regular who is deaf and I finally mustered enough courage to try and sign with him (he usually orders through the app or has his items typed up before ordering). Our convo was very brief given that I know little to no ASL but I’d like to provide him with the same level of customer service I do to our hearing customers!

Seems like you haven't done any videos recently, but I wish you'd consider revisiting this and teaching. Your signs are very clear and easy to follow, and the descriptions make sense. It's hard to find ASL instructional videos that really break down the components and don't go too fast. Ty for this, and I hope you're doing well! 🤟

Just before going in for a partial shift I randomly watched part of your wonderful video. I couldn’t believe it when a customer came in today and showed me her order on her cell phone. I saw her hearing aids and remembered “good afternoon” “your name?” and “thank you!” We got trough the order with big smiles and even I even figured out her name is Cynthia!!
Not that her leaving a big tip mattered monetarily, but it meant that the experience was meaningful to her and that meant more than money ever could. Thank you!! I’ll watch this over and over until it becomes second nature ❤️

My store is right near the State school for the Deaf so we get numerous faculty members, students, and even families who are deaf. I'm very grateful to have such a great store because so many of our partners will take an extra leap just to make sure we are able to make these customers feel welcomed. I usually open so we will have teachers coming in for the school ordering blonde coffee right st 5:30am sometimes so this is going to be supper useful for me!! Thank you very much 😌

I work at a Taco Bell and there's a man that comes in regularly at night. He is deaf and I happened to know a little bit of sign language. I'm the only person on night crew that knows ASL. I was able to communicate with him and seeing the happiness on his face warmed my heart. To this day he still comes in and we have a conversation in ASL. He's such a sweet elderly man. Gets the same thing every time. A number 4 with a Large Pepsi and cinnamon twists. Now I know how to repeat his entire order and cannot wait to show him😍😍

Don’t forget the question face!! Hope that helped xx
