That clematis is going to be stunning with that rose. I have that clematis and it’s so pretty. It looks almost metallic in the sun. Love your channel and prayers for speedy healing for Eric🙏🏻💚💚💚
Of all the garden videos I watch, your textures, colors, and choices are my favorite. Thank you for your cool, calm demeanor and for sharing your exquisite gardens with us.
Fast recovery Eric ! Great video ,I have some David Austin roses and now I know how to care for them!Specially the climbing roses I never really understood how to trim them! I love watching both of you,you ard both so entertaining and fun to watch ❤
Feel better soon, Eric. Good time to research plants and flowers while recuperating. You two are wonderful gardeners and do a fabulous job teaching others in an easy to understand way. Your gardens are looking glorious. Your videos are the best, very professional! Happy gardening from zone 8a, North Carolina.
Wishing Eric a speedy recovery, that is a great tool, will have to get one for sure. The garden looks great guys, Christopher you are so sweet, take care🌞☺️
Sending good vibes for a fast recovery, Eric! Thank you for this video, I'm into roses! I appreciate your maintenance demonstrations. This year I planted a Raymond Evision Olympia light blue clematis next to my climbing Wollerton Old Hall David Austin climbing rose. The combination of light blue and pale peach of the rose is stunning! ❤
Hope you have a speedy recovery, Eric. I didn't realize how enjoyable the two of you are together until someone is missing. Once again, note to self I must add Clematis to my climbing roses!
Speaking of coast of Maine a visit to Acadia national park and Bar Harbour the gardens are amazing bar harbor has to be the cutest town I’ve visited in the US
You guys are so fun.! This video came just in time. Startled D.A. Roses this season, learning lots from this video, and others of course. Get well soon Eric.! 🌹
Christopher, I am glad I was not the only one baffled by that clematis pot🙄. You did a much better job than I did and I’m happy to report that my clematis is recovering nicely! Eric feel better soon!
Feel better soon Eric. I loved this one! Unrelated… Meant to ask you guys at the garden tour- how do you decide which boxwood to use where? (Newbie with boxwoods.) Thank you for the time you put into creating and sharing these wonderful and educational videos.
Hello, Christopher. I too have been fighting aphids all year. They started appearing on mandevilla and spread to hibiscus, not the hardy kind, ugh. They just about annihilated the hibiscus - Captain Jack Dead Brew, ready to use has been my saving grace this year. That clematis was a hot mess to remove from the black pot!
Hope Eric is healing well. Thanks for the rose tips. Have you encountered black stop or rose rust and how do you deal with it? Great job Christopher on both the maintenance and filming. That can’t be easy.
Ok. This is my firs ever comment because I have to know what you use for your roses? They look incredible and so is your beautiful garden. I'm so happy I found you! I have learned so many new things already. So back to the original question- how do you keep them so lush and disease free? I always get horrible black spots on my roses and can't seem to be able to manage it.
Thank you for commenting and for following along. Black spot is awful! The tip I learned is that you have to get rid of it completely in the Fall to help avoid it in Spring. Once the leaves fall from the rose, defoliate any that are left and really rake up the ground. Then spray as the rose is waking up with the fungicide and it will help protect it!
So happy I stumbled on this video! While I generally know how to prune my roses, it's nice to watch and refresh my knowledge. I struggle with getting my climbing Iceberg to fill in on my trellis. The top arch looks great, but my straight up section always has bare spots. How do I fix this?
You could try weaving some younger canes closer to the ground, maybe evern loosely wrap them right around the base to get that horizontal. Or you could add a clematis, which fixed the problem right away!
Thanks for the rose update. Had the same struggle with the clematis pot too! I eventually won. Did you ever have your rose loose all its leaves? Hope Eric had a speedy recovery.
Great content! Excellent rose care tips! Love the tapener (sp). Will have to look for that. How does it hold up in winter months? Have you used it on anything that needs support during the winter?
We just got it a few months ago so we haven't see how it holds through winter. I can see myself using a silicone coated wire on the larger canes in time and letting the tapener be more of a training tool
Videos like this are so helpful! I have a Vanessa Bell- new to my garden this year and I love the fragrance! 🍵 🍯 🍋 I like your thinking on stadium seating pruning. On my VB- the canes have a columnar shape about 2 ft of canes with seven leaves up to the top 6 inches and then blooms at the top. I think it’s just the way the nursery pruned them in prior seasons. Is it possible to cut them down to get more blooms along the cane and encourage more of a vase shape? How far can I take them down with this goal in mind?
Honestly I have taken Vanessa Bell down pretty hard. Last year they grew about 6 feet and looked silly, so this summer after the first flush I brought them down to about two feet. The good thing is you can experiment with some of the canes and not have to worry about losing the whole shrub
Do you have to worry about the climbing rose to get air into the bush so you don’t end up with black spots or mold? I’ve just started my first DA climbing rose (BathSheba)
What is the name of the tool you used to anchor the rose stems to the arch? It makes the job so much easier. The rose bush and clematis look great together.
Thank you for this! So do you still cut back your clematis when they're intertwined in your roses? Do you just yank the cut clematis stems off from the rose canes? I thought you had to cut clematis back for it to bloom properly but I'd be worried about damaging the rose.
Good morning fellas. I have a lady of shallot rose that I have had for about 5 years or more. Well. It blooms but not a lot and the flowers are really lite in color. What would you suggest? Also, it keep sending off 6/8 foot canes.
@@growformegardening I already thought of that in my devious nature, but then she wanted to know why she had so many… I’ve tried the beneficial nematodes & milky spore- they are slightly better than previous yrs but I am so tired of all my David Austin Roses getting eaten!
Everything looks lush and beautiful!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! 🤗

Great video, Christopher ! Very informative! The rose on the metal arch is gorgeous. Hope Eric stays put so he can mend.❤❤😊😊
Thanks!
I agree. I bought one of those taping guns last year. Just love it!!
Game changer!

OMG, I have that same ladder, and didn't know it had that level thing. Thanks for that tip to not break something.

I think that went better than when they arrive with the little wooden trellises. They are such a tangled mess!

Well, Winter Gems are great everywhere. Sprinters are also really nice..very similar. The others we have are more experiments. haha

OH Wow! How uncanny I just had a sinus lift, bone graft surgery done 6 days ago! Not the most fun time for me.. Feel better soon Eric!

Hope Eric is healing well. Thanks for the rose tips. Have you encountered black stop or rose rust and how do you deal with it? Great job Christopher on both the maintenance and filming. That can’t be easy.
Black spot hasn't been a big problem for us...I am meticulous about cleaning up fallen leaves in the fall/spring to get ahead of the problem.

Thank goodness I’ve actually never had a rose defoliate
What are the hydrangeas flanking the arch? It’s beautiful! ❤
Those are Bobos. They are like puffy clouds

I'll be pulling it out. Not aggressively, but I will definitely clean it out.

She can grow as a small climber so those canes are to be expected. Does it have enough light?
@@growformegardening she gets full sun from 3 till sun down in nc. So she is definitely getting plenty of sun. I also use Espoma rose tone in March.
Interesting. If you know the variety contact the company. They might have suggestions

Have you have any rose rosette?
Nope. Thank goodness
Anyone have issues with Japanese Beetles this year? I’ve tried everything!
Last year it was really bad here. Try to get a neighbor to put out a beetle bag! It makes them leave you along
