    Couple of corrections
    1. I mentioned Leon's res was 4, but it is actually 3 after boosters, and 1 at base. In practice, this does not change the conclusion. He sucks against mages in terms of survivability, but he is the only one that can counter and one round them in the first place, and so you just deal with it.
    2. I mentioned Saber and archer AI for bow fort, and him not messing with it. This is actually false. The reason I brought it up is because in other maps, for instance 4-1, enemy archers will ignore higher def units that they do 1 damage to (Clive) in order to attack lower def units that can kill them (Python), and I assumed the same was true of Bow Fort archer. Apparently they have different AI. This is still a very good map for him, because he can just kill the mercs and then GTFO letting Leon continue to enemy phase.
    3. Super Palla does win the 1v1 against the merc in Bow Fort, it is regular Palla who loses it. Also, Palla can technically kill the gargoyles in 4-1, but to do so requires the iron lance which makes her combat against the cantors worse, hence why I failed to mention it. If you bring Est along, you could give her weapon to Palla the turn right before going in, but it's still a little awkward.
    4. Palla is able to ORKO snipers in Grieth's more reliably than Catria, which depending on how you view things may be more valuable than Catria's speed lead. Ultimately, it makes the units closer than I portrayed them, but I still personally would put Catria above Palla.

      I just used a super Saber at the bow fort and he can take out a good number of archers himself if you get a pattern in the front hallway with a mercenary blocking two range so many attack up close. Luckily the mercs move after the archers.

    This is the most cursed thing. In my Normal/Classic Ironman I Dread Looped Kliff from Mercenary to Villager to Archer. For Saber and Kamuei I Dread Looped them from Mercenary to Villager. Then, I forgot at the end of Celica's route you can no longer use her units. So, Saber and Kamuei were both Villagers during the Duma fight

  • @ussgordoncaptain
    @ussgordoncaptain 2 года назад +9

    Points
    10:16: You forgot the Mercenearies and Myrmidons so I'll mention those here,
    Mercs Double palla, and Super palla takes 6-14 damage in return from those, she actually does win the 1v1 (something regular palla does not) but she'll take quite a bit of damage in return.
    11:03 Falcoknight bases actually get palla to 12 speed, and with an iron lance (from dragon shrine) you can ORKO those. The main offensive benchmark she missses in part 4 is killing arcs/Snipers, and killing the necrodragons in 4-2. She also requires a crit to kill fiends, but you can either Triangle Attack (which has imperfect crit rates in SOV) or you can pray for blessed lance crits (+15 crit from the weapon after forging)
    On Super Palla vs Others
    the Key is WAR, since echoes is almost entirely 4 enemy types, Cantors, Arcanists, Mercs, Archers, you need units to deal with each type individually. The issue with super palla in a super leon context is that A: Palla can't use the recover spell so she has to do combat instead of making leon do even more work, and B: Palla can't kill mercs which are the main enemy leon struggles against.
    13:23: oh boy time to talk about the most disappointing thing since my son. Catria. You'd think she could farm EXP in sonya's map but boy howdy it doesn't make up for catria's base level disadvantage. Catria can get 4-5 witch kills in sonya's map, but many enemies in sonya's map have the thunder tome which has 3 range. Catria also has an irrelevant lead in speed, and a moderately useful lead in RES. But Palla's strength lead is extremely important for BARELY orkoing snipers in grieth.
    15:16: You can actually Rout the entire map AND a brigand spawn in 3 turns. This is important so mae can learn shove in grieth's citadel.
    16:06 Unless you fight a lot of map spawns I don't see how you're promoting Palla AND catria, I barely managed to squeeze a Palla promotion in my 154 turn LTC, and I don't see how you can squeeze much more EXP.
    19:33 you can get a 1 turn even without a 15 strength Palla/Catria you just do the LTC classic RIGGING CRITS, Catria has around 14-15 crit and need to crit exactly 1 necro so that's around 26% to get the lucky crit, which is pretty good after factoring in turnwheels.
    26:21 Est is actually best at learning swap against enemies in Valley approach, you can just plant her away from 1 range enemies so the mages have to attack from 2 or 3 range and then she can counter with the Saunion.
    41:20 Deen typically wants 2 exp boosters to promote, level 5 is actually very low since there are only 3 maps left in the act for deen to farm EXP.
    42:13 Super saber is ... OK, but requires quite a bit of grinding to get going. For reference you'd need to get him to level 7 after myrmidon to get to promotion, and that requires a lot of EXP, the best way to do this is to grind on 2-3 sets of map spawns and then early promote saber. But that amount of grinding bbviously has a large cost to it. I wanna ask Karma how much grinding this requires, but it's a lot more than you think. PLUS on top of requiring grinding you have to do the same backtrack that you do for super palla. The other main issue with super saber is somehow killing Jedah, the current ideas involve roundhouse which is a very yucky skill to obtain, on top of this Saber doesn't have the recover spell and so can't heal leon back up.
    50:05 Kamui is the most disappointing thing since Catria. This guy has 2 base luck and 2 base res, his join level is so low that when playing quickly getting him to myrmidon is a struggle. On top of that he doesn't have access to 2-E which is what allows saber to get to level 3 before act 3. Kamui meanwhile struggles to hit myrmidon by act 3 due to his lower effective join level and 8 base speed (meaning he gets doubled by mercs in merc boat) and 2 base res (meaning he gets bodied by arcs in arc boat)
    54::21 Importantly boey's that miss benchmarks still promote on time because boey requires less EXP to promote. The exp difference is that mae requires 4214 exp while boey needs 3057, so about 25% more required for mae compared to boey.

    Hey! I love the tier list reviews, especially for games that I've played. I had a great time playing through SoV for the first time last year and it didn't disappoint. Looking at the updated tier list, I think this pretty much aligned with my experience playing through the game. Everyone in the upper ranks (except maybe Boey?) served me very well. I do have a soft-spot for Lukas though, who really formed a defensive backbone for Alm's side for me and never really lost relevance after pitchforking. The elder whitewings being good with caveats fit my experience as well. Maybe they were strength screwed, but they weren't always able to clinch kills. I think the best way to sum up my experience with them was they were powerful in certain situations but I had to always be careful with them, I couldn't just forget about them like I could with Lukas. Which to be fair is pretty typical of pegasus knights!
    Love the Trails music by the way. Thanks Mekkah for amazing FE content, I always appreciate it!

    • @PeevedLatias
      @PeevedLatias 2 года назад +3

      The thing about Lukas is that he's not actually much bulkier than Armor!Tobin or Forsyth, but he misses offensive benchmarks like doubling without boosters that would be better used elsewhere. I'd super suggest you try them out, and I plan to bring them up on the Alm side of this list!

    • @formy52
      @formy52 2 года назад +1

      @@PeevedLatias that's some really interesting Forsyth, thank you. 😉
      To be honest, I found Lukas too hot to not use, but I did use Mage!Tobin for Excalibur and Physic utility. If I run through SoV I'll definitely give Forsyth more of a look in. For me getting him after Lukas hurts a little, especially when I'd already used Lukas for several battles. But second runs are always about using new characters, so thanks for the advice! It's nice to hear from super experienced players. It's what make these videos so interesting to me.

    • @PeevedLatias
      @PeevedLatias 2 года назад +2

      @@formy52 So, the thing about Forsyth is that he hits the magic 8 speed threshold that Lukas misses at 7/10/1 baron, and he has better res. This matters a lot in arcanist forest, and matters to double enemy armor knights in act 4. Lukas could do it with boosters, but other people want them.
      Ultimately Forsyth does potentially require grinding to hit knight by the end of act 1, it's his biggest drawback, but he also performs much better than Lukas with it is more or less my personal conclusion.

    Peeved's knowledge of SoV is insane. However, even if some strategies are efficient I feel like some of them were super specific or not intuitive and there's no way even experienced players would know/use them. Of course still a great video tho

    • @PeevedLatias
      @PeevedLatias 2 года назад +6

      While some of them are specific in what you need to make them happen, part of that is because SoV is itself very specific in terms of stat benchmarks. Due to retreat AI, the difference between say, one rounding 5 enemies on enemy phase and leaving 5 enemies on enemy phase on 1 hp is that it'll take 5 turns of cleanup instead of them suiciding turn 2, and in a rout game, this is really bad. On top of that, the speed threshold is only 1 in this game, and units are promoted to their class bases upon reaching promotion.
      What I'm getting at is that with some exp management, if someone hits their class bases, you almost always know exactly how big a forge or how many stat boosters to give them if you hit the benchmarks, and some enemies are so strong that you need specific strats to beat them efficiently (that is to say quickly), and because you need to beat them quickly with that strat, it can be that unit's entire reason for a rating, see the white wings.
      That said, a lot of strategies that may sound super specific are more about the setup than they are about the using of said unit. Taking Super Leon as an example, you send a killer bow from Alm side and give him a pegasus cheese and +1 attack. That's a super specific setup, but it doesn't really take any cognitive power to use him in that way. You just give him the resources, and the rest follows.
      All that said, if you have examples that you think were super specific, I'd love to hear them and maybe clarify if I think they can be generalized a bit.
      P.s. I agree that some of these are definitely not intuitive. I know them since I hang out around the SoV LTC crowd, most people won't find these on their own.

  • @carpediem6841
    @carpediem6841 2 года назад +8

    On the exp differences between Mae and Boey- if you’re giving them +3 levels it’s massively in favor of Boey. Exp in echoes is scaled so that reaching level 11 from level 9 costs literally 2/3rds the exp as level 1 to level 9. That’s a massive exp tax that Mae has to pay, so Boey will be much easier to early promote, even though Mae will get more experience to that point.

    • @PeevedLatias
      @PeevedLatias 2 года назад +7

      Iirc the numbers are not quite 2/3 because Boey also gets less exp from combat from 1 to 9 in the first place, but you're right that Boey requires less exp. I overemphasized part 3 exp as the difference between the two.

    • @carpediem6841

      @@PeevedLatias I’m just saying generally 2/3rd (as in any unit 1-9 compared to that unit 9-11) . Mae does have a higher exp multiplier (6 compared to 5) but that’s not nearly enough to bridge that gap

    Having used Atlas a couple of times, I believe that archer is one of his worst class line options. His promotion really depends on who you recruit at Greith's Citadel. If you pick up Deen, go mage. Grab Sonya, make him a mercenary. Mage's bounded accuracy negates his low skill, and while he won't double a lot, his absurd bulk and ATK mean he can take a few hits while ripping chunks the size of his mythological namesake out of enemies. On the other hand, mercenary fixes his speed and skill while providing you with another Dread Fighter, which is hard to complain against.
    Also, Sonya best girl. Fight me.

  • @mauwus4322

    I honestly think Palla is the only one you should really bother with, all of them perform basically the same after promotion and the falcon knight promotion is such a huge boon to them so getting them to promotion asap is the biggest priority.
    Unfortunately getting them to promotion level is such a huge hassle because the exp rate slows down so hard around level 8 or so, so it takes so long for them to get there unless you do certain strats like saving the dracozombie and exp fountains to skip the last couple of levels and that's where Palla's high level makes her the best candidate.
    Her high level means that if you do those starts you can get her to promotion instantly with almost no grinding, Catrie performs is similar after promotion anyway but she still needs to be grinded to Palla's level before you give her all those resources.

      @RSimpkinuk57 Год назад

      Ltc players are a different league from me. Mine was a "natural" run (hard difficulty). I do like combat, so if clearing dungeons of enemies every time is grinding, then I grind. (Defeating each lot once but once only, that world map day: I prefer to avoid the respawns.) But I do need an excuse to go there, other than just training. Mostly the side missions.
      Act 2 start: side mission from the priory ("lay 20 revenants to rest") grants three extra times round the cemetery, = level 3 for all. Then first boat, leave it all to Saber, for his level 3.
      Seabound shrine: grab the blessed sword, find four coral fragments minimum (I am using foreknowledge of the game), promote Saber (on entry), Leon and Kamui (before exit), never go there again. If Leon and Kamui can promote without exp drinks, then these are for Mae and Boey. But it will be the dragon shrine or even Temple of Mila statue before they promote.
      (When ltc players take Palla to the seabound shrine in Act 3, do they add the round trip's 9 extra world map days to their turn count?)
      With all this, I still got Palla and Catria both to falcon knight before the Temple of Mila, and Est promoted there start of Act 4. Without using the exp boost drinks at the temple: those went to Sonya and Jesse. Though I was expecting Est to need one, if not both.
      How? well, I did clear the mountain graveyard eight times. Because that is what it took to get the Duma carving and sign off with the lumberjack after. And the rng kept spawning paladins at the temple, to come give the group waiting in the approach valley some more exp, rather than the last zombie in the graveyard. Until I got tired of this and attacked the temple anyway.
      I'd enough promotions to do in the dragon shrine to divide them between two visits (the second after clearing the graveyard again whilst returning the son's journal), so that was an excuse for another training run through it. Also Est had been fortunate, both with there being a reinforcement cantor present at the valley approach battle, and with a graveyard group at the right time being one with high-exp mummies.
      Against Grieth's, Rion shield for Palla (for its +2 ATK and +2 RES, more than its +2 DEF) and javelin to Catria (because she has the SKILL for it, as well as SPD). After the dragon shrine, iron lance for Palla.
      Natural play for me also means staying with the weapon curve and forging up what is being used, not rushing to super weapons with new arts that their users have to start learning from scratch. No Act 3 silver lance for Palla (or anybody else). Beloved Zofia for Celica, yes (and made it +1 at Sage's Hamlet). One silver bow to killer in Act 4. And for fun I did turn the Act 3 shadow sword into ilwoon for Kamui, since he kept wrath strike that way. Never mind that a second brave sword might have been better.
      While three falcos were really useful for the Act 4 maps, when it came to benching people for the Duma tower, all three got benched. Palla for certain, Est and Catria borderline, but storywise I decided it had to be all three together, or none.

    The make or break moment for Leon are the forts with all the Archers on Celica's route. There are two methods I use on those levels. Method one is the slowest. It involves attacking units from a safe distance with your Archer. You kill the Mage as soon as you can safely do so, then move around the fort picking off units from a safe distance. Then, you send in your bulkier units to finish the level. If Leon is underleveled he can die baiting Archers in this level. The faster method involves using your bulkier units to push. Killing the Mage as soon as possible is even more important using this method. You push with your units using Leon to help with damage out of enemy range. If you are playing Hard Mode there is a chance Leon will not survive the level where he is a green unit. This happened to me on several attempts.

    Kamuei is a less reliable Saber by alot. In my Hard/Classic Ironman I used both Dread Looped Saber and Kamuei. I made Saber an Archer because Dread Looped Saber is busted. Kamuei even after his Dread Loop had C tier defense and 2 resistance. I made him a Mage because both Boey and Mae died. His stats looked comically lopsided. Imagine a Mage who can double Gargoyles, yet has around 14 defense, 2 resistance. Gray as a Mage learns Fire, Sagittae, Thunder and Recover. Kamuei learns Fire, Excalibur, Recover and Freeze. So Kamuei is the better Mage out of the two.

    An interesting use for the Pitchfork if you have one is Conrad. He has the highest skill in the game so he is the most accurate Archer. This makes him better than Tobin (Archer) who is the most accurate of the Villagers without the Pitchfork. He is also a better Archer compared to Kliff (Archer) who has a resistance of 8. Conrad's resistance = 12, resistance growth = 8%. You should expect to see Conrad's skill around 25 by the time you reach endgame without the use of skill fountains making him the best use for the skill fountains.

    Palla for me is like Clair in Alm's side: a swap bot lol. Made the desert maps much more enjoyable, ngl (specially the desert stronghold, because the pegasus won't make many things against so many bow fighters). I usually send exotic spice from Alm side in act 3 to Celica, so she can get Beloved Zofia asap, and she also having swap makes her much more usable in the Desert Maps, and not only that, having +5 hp recovery every turn in this part of the game is really nice.

    I found that grinding for the sake of grinding is more boring and redundant compared to grinding with a purpose. One path is to grind in the first dungeon to promote into a Mercenary on one Villager and a Mage on another Villager to prepare for the 13 speed shield Mercenary. Villager Mercenary has 10 base speed +3 speed from the fountain = 13 speed to tie with the Mercenary on hard mode. Lucus, Alm or a Villager (Soldier) will be used for all melee units on Alm's route. Faye as a Cleric is your best bet on this route since she gets Recover/Physic for short and long range healing. You can heal with Faye then heal the 1 hp lost with Silque for some extra experience. Once you do that first heal you can set Faye/Silque next to each other to Recover/turn skip in an infinite loop to gain extra levels for the Cleric abilities. Faye (Cleric) 1 Recover, 1 Nosferatu, 6 Physic, 10 Rescue. Faye (Saint) 1 Seraphim, 14 Anew. Silque (Cleric) 1 Recover, 1 Nosferatu, 7 Warp, 14 Expel, 18 Invoke Dread. Silque (Cleric) 1 Seraphim.

    Celica > Boey IMO. Boey isn’t consistently better than Celica. In the early maps, if Boey whiffs his growths he just straight up doesn’t have any leads over Celica at all in the very early game. and Celica generally has better combat once you get to the Pirate fort. She has better combat vs. the cantor (honestly almost enough for me to instantly knock Boey out of A+ because he sucks so much vs. the cantor compared to Mae). She’s also much better at the necrodragon fight. Once you get past act 2 Boey is a lot bulkier, but there are still a few speed and attack thresholds that’ll cause problems if he whiffs. In particular he can have problems against the archers/snipers which is really bad because of retreat AI. Celica usually doesn’t have those problems, she can sometimes do the Mae myrm thing, although it’s a lot less likely. Celica sometimes has a kinda bad starting spot, but tbh unless you’re literally ltcing it’s really minor. At most it’s a turn of movement, and it’s usually even less than that. In act 4, Boey doesn’t consistently hit completely awful speed thresholds because Sagittae is heavy AF without the speed ring, and the forging route is much better if you finish Celica’s side first. And he needs Sagittae to kill. Celica and Mae have much better showings with the mage ring, which is good, because you get one for free. In Duma Tower I’m pretty sure Boey still really wants the speed ring, but Mae and Celica are perfectly fine with the mage ring. It’s a bit more reasonable to have it on Celica’s side then, but there is a decent opportunity cost (it’s also guaranteed to cost you a turn if you care about that). With his inconsistency in all 3 acts, I don’t like him as much as Celica, not even mentioning Mae, and I think he should go down to match her.

      "It’s a bit more reasonable to have it on Celica’s side then, but there is a decent opportunity cost (it’s also guaranteed to cost you a turn if you care about that)"
      What do you mean by this? The speed ring is obtained on Alm side and then sent over, but it shows up in the convoy without costing a turn. Do you mean the fights required to access it in the first place in fear shrine? Though that is technically a cost, the current... Uh, consensus, I guess? Is that you do all maps/forced dungeon encounters for LTC/efficiency, so it's usually not counted.
      That aside, I do agree for the most part that Boey feels much worse than Celica to use as your main mage in the latter parts of the game, but assuming the first attack is rigged and that he stays on average, he'll do just fine against every enemy he has to fight. And you should assume that he'll stay on average-ish, because otherwise you could very much ask "What happens if this other unit gets screwed?" for instance, Catria could miss the speed threshold that I listed as why I think she's better than Palla.
      You mentioned archers, but none of them are supposed to fight archers, that's Leon's job. You could argue that rigging the first attack should be banned, but in that case he wouldn't even be next to Celica, he'd be in the garbage tier.
      All this to say, I think he deserves to be ahead of Celica since this is about efficiency, even outside of low-turn. But if you ask me which I prefer to use, in terms of personal preference, Mae, Celica, and Boey in that order, with a massive gap between Celica and Boey.

      @@PeevedLatias Alm can 1-turn his third trial but he needs 1 extra move, so if he starts with the speed ring you save a turn. Gray/Faye/Luthier/Kliff like it if they reach Sagittae, which while a stretch for some, is still useful. And of course a lot of units like the extra move occasionally
      I don’t really like staying on averages because it punishes units with higher consistency I.E. one unit exactly hits a speed threshold while another beats it by 3, the one who beats it by 3 is going to much more consistently hit it. And the problem with Boey is that he’s never really hitting that +3. Usually he’s like around 0, give or take a bit. That’s really not good.
      I often have my mage doing clean-up in bow fort, but if Boey can’t ORKO, that’s a problem. Not to mention his combat vs. Wolff isn’t good. Leon is only taking 2 snipers most in Greith so it can be useful for your mage to take out the third.
      As far as an efficiency rating goes, do we just not care about reliability? Are we going to see A tier Lilina soon? Sumia third best unit in awakening? Obviously Boey is better than those two are but his reliability is frankly nowhere near consistent. Celica is a bit slower but a lot more consistent, and I think that consistency matters more.

    • @PeevedLatias

      @@carpediem6841 Lilina would never happen for other reasons, but I do get your point about consistency. While reliability is something that you care about, at some point you have to make an arbitrary call about what's reliable enough. Personally, I think that Boey is reliable enough, especially since some of the turns he may lose due to missing benchmarks might be made up for over Celica's weaker early game and weaker starting position.
      You mention Wolff, but Celica has much worse desert movement for one, and while that's also true of Mae, her better starting position makes her better for swap/shove shenanigans.
      Fair point on the speed ring, I wasn't really thinking about Alm's trials there.

      @@PeevedLatias If we’re explicitly caring about turns, a fully trained Celica should gain ~2-3 turns in the early necrodragon fight + the fight at the end of act 2, which is a bigger margin than what Boey gains in the first 2 boat maps (~1 on average). But I don’t really care about that. I think losing a turn to starting position is much better than losing a turn because your Boey is just a bit below average. Like I’m sorry, are we literally counting turns? The margins between their reliability past the first 3 maps is pretty big (I’d estimate generally 10-40%, usually leaning on the higher end), and IMO that’s much more important. Besides, I don’t think Celica loses that many turns due to starting position. I’m pretty sure she can help get the 5 turn on archer fort with 2 shoves and swap on a myrm. The only other place I could think of it would matter is Greith, and even then I doubt it’s a consistent turn save. Even if she couldn’t minimize that value, I value her reliability more than Boey’s potential turn saves

    I’ve always thought Palla sucked lmao. In my last hard mode run, it ended up being more convenient to sack Palla in the mages and revive her with the fountain, since her res is low and stays low forever. My partner ended up forgetting to pick up Palla and Catria because it doesn’t indicate that they go back to the port, which is what I did my first playthrough. :C the fact that everything worked out says a lot about their impact upon Celica’s side’s chapters
