Regarding reverb! For percussion it’s all about the super short ambient room reverb, dialed in at a very low level. At about 2%-3% wet usually; almost imperceptible, but you hear it when it goes away. It makes a huge difference in the presence and dimensionality of any mono mic source. For recorded tracks, I strongly recommend using a convolution reverb (look up videos if that’s new to you). Convolution reverb will give you the most realistic sounding ambience. If you do that, the sound will sound great both on its own, or in a mix with dynamics processing. Have fun everybody!
