The problem with this generation is everyone wants to work for themselves, no one wants to work for anyone else, thinking they're gonna become millionaires and this leads to unrealistic mindsets that you don't need education. You learn things about yourself and others you would never be able to unless you went to university... If you wanna go to uni go if not its okay.
Thisss☝🏾
💯
Thank you!!!!! Not everyone will CEO's or millionaires. Someone has to work under someone else and education is important and uni can be done at any age
This is exactly the problem. And most of these people don’t have back up plans. Which is another reason why I feel going to University is vital.

I agree with AyMilli TV. University is a key part of society, where the integral professions within society rise from. It is not compulsory, so its your choice but you cannot discredit university just because you are focused on the negative elements; in life there is always going to be negatives in everything you do anyways.
The problem with university is they pad the program to make more money but pretend it's to make students more well rounded. Books cost way too much and a lot of school actively try to force students to buy new books, or new editions. The fact that it is a key part of society is a fallacious argument and even if it was, that still doesn't mean anything at all. Slavery was once a "key" part of society, that became obsolete due to industrialization. Formal education is only good for establishing a curriculum, but with the advent of the internet it exists only to artificially separate people who can afford to pay for it from those who can't.
@@ezradlionel711 If something is key then it does mean something so, you are contradicting yourself... You wouldn't want someone who is not qualified to be a heart surgeon to do heart surgery on you. Students aren't forced to buy any of these books, they are just recommended to - speaking from experience. Using slavery as a comparison is invalid in this scenario, how are you trying to compare the education system to the concept of slavery and everything that formed it.
@@seforambongo5905 You missed the part where I said some professions require hardware/equipment that only schools have the funds to acquire?
The only thing that qualifies someone is their ability to do something. Certification (Accredited) means that someone has been approved to assess qualification.
In an analogy you use the parts that are analogous, because everything has dozens to millions of variables. It's kind of like a simile, you know what that is? If I say I'm like a lion, you gonna ask me if I hunt Zebra?
Since you're playing dumb, I'll explain: Slavery was such a big deal that even good Christians owned slaves, now the concept disgusts most people. University is seen as a requirement but is gradually becoming more obsolete with the internet, made all the more obvious by the rapid push to online learning since the pandemic got worse. So in a couple decades what seemed like a key component of society will be replaced by more customized online learning, not centralized to any one institution, where students can learn at their own pace.
There's always going to be the need to assess students but I think that should be the job of the employer. Any head of a department should know the requirements of a position and whether or not a potential candidate is equipped for the post.
These man aren’t understanding that you only pay back a fraction of your loan only after you make a certain amount of income, moving like we’re in America where you’ll be in debt, Lool you can tell whose educated on this pannel by watching this
G truss me, the ones who said they hadn’t gone uni were mentioning the “debt” as if they even know how it works. Clearly they don’t 🤣
@@e11b10 exactlyy speaking rubbish kmt
It’s still debt because it’s money you have to pay back in instalments
N K it’s a debt yes. That you begin to pay 9% of any thing over 27k you earn, which you don’t even see come out of ur account because it gets deducted before you get your wage. So it can be seen as a tax more than a debt.
So what, you'd rather earn less than 27k a year because you don't pay back the loan? That's a loser's mindset.
And just because it's a small amount you're required to pay, doesn't mean it's not a debt.
If you're gonna go to uni, make sure you make the most of it. Join societies, do internships, study abroad, do extra curricular activities. Uni is about a lot more than just a degree, so make sure you make the most of that £9K!!

People who did a degree in a field they don't work in shouldn't discredit the uni route and should have picked a better degree.
This is not a fair statement because a lot changed between the time that you apply, get accepted and begin and the time that you graduate and figure out your career post degree….
good point. Though I'd also say most of us didn't know what we wanted to do 100% at 18. And our parents pressured us to go to uni (and do a respectable degree).
And I'd also say that most degrees aren't useful. If it's not stem or law, you likely don't need it. Apprenticeships, internships & online courses would be a better option. I did a finance degree but I learned way more & more useful things online. Investing, credit score, real estate etc. All online. Didn't learn a peep from the degree

We also have to admit that not everyone can just "start a business", "" start an online business". I hear it so often being told to others to do but gosh not everyone has the skills to start and carry out a business.
everyone sees other people start a business and become successful and don't realise the effort and struggle it takes to start a business you probably won't even see profit in the first 3-5 years and will just be scraping by, not everyone has the ability to be a CEO this generation makes it seem like unless you work for yourself everything else is useless

Monty come like she is Queen of Wahala...so she believes people are wasting their 20s to get a degree. Yet she is now 27 going to uni to get a degree 🙃
The problem isn’t that everyone is trying to be self employed in their own business. It’s the fact that everyone is trying to establish the same businesses, nails, shoes, clothes and hair etc… and that’s why those people won’t get far unless they have lots of influence
Exactly. They’re all acting as if its bad to be employed by someone else but they don’t realize that a lot of big business owners didn’t jump into entrepreneur ship immediately. A lot of them had to work under other people to have an influence and an example on what can benefit you when running a business. They can think back to how their boss did certain things to boost their business. This will help you a lot more than being prideful and feeling like working under someone else makes you “smaller”.
I went to uni for graphic design I went to the second best art school in the country and had everyone in my ear telling me I can learn graphic design/photography at home. I went because of how prestigious the uni was and the main reason was to network. I ended up getting a recommendation from my tutor to nike and since graduating I've been running a successful freelance photography business. Not to mention I learned so much about myself and grew in confidence when it came to talking to people and making friends which I still use today for my job. People don't make the most out of uni when they go, they mess around and finish with barely a pass and say it's not worth it. It's definitely not for everyone but that doesn't mean it's not worth it.
You are an exception. There's only so many spaces and jobs. What's wrong with you lot? Imagine someone with a graphic design degree urging others to go uni? Unless you recommend STEM, Non-Creative degrees then you're not the best person to be giving opinion
There are only so many spaces and jobs in every field and every uni so what's your point? who is urging anyone to go to uni? I'm simply talking about my personal experiences as I said at the end it's definitely not for everybody only you can make that decision, but just because it's not a STEM field that means it's not worth it? you do realise the vast majority of creative agencies still require you to have a degree in fine art unless you have experience already working in the creative industry for a decent amount of years. I was able to network at university and still use those contacts today who hire me for jobs and I return the favour, not to mention it helped me grow as a person in confidence and allowed for better communication which has helped ridiculously in the industry when it comes to talking to new clients and pitching. Uni allowed me to have better resources that I would never have been able to have on my own, art isn't cheap. It also gave me time to work on the projects I wanted to and build my portfolio up to suit the agencies I wanted to apply to. I didn't learn anything at uni in relation to my degree but I got exactly what I wanted out of it.
Congratulations

@@32442792 I’m saying most people go to college just to go or don’t even work in the field they got their degree in. It’s just pointless most of the time.
There are many basic jobs you can get without a degree. However when you’re trying to elevate within that industry that’s when they want people with degrees

Uni is expensive for what you get - I understand that, but tbh lets be real a lot of uni students are really not that serious, rave every week and do the bare minimum and somehow scrape by with a 2.1. Uni isn't a place that gives results with the bare minimum, you need to be involved (both in your studies and extracurriculars) and you'll see better results.
I went to uni purely for networking reasons I ended up with a 2.1 but got exactly what I went there for, ended up getting a recommendation to nike and have never looked back, the best decision I ever made. Would I go back to art school just to learn? definitely not I didn't learn anything I didn't already know but it was definitely worth it. Most man go to uni with no goal/aim and are just coasting by, obviously it won't seem worth it if you're just partying and ending up with a pass
@@DRandR1productionz recommendation to Nike ?? Lol I’ve always wondered how you get into companies like that cause you never see Nike advertising office jobs now I see it’s networking

@@jeezy9406 Yeah I wasn't saying a 2.1 is bad - my point was that people think that just getting by with a 2.1 is enough, and that's not the case. You have to be involved throughout uni to get the best out of it, not just cram to get a grade.
A lot of them are talking about how they can go and teach themselves online but it all boils down to evidence. You can’t go to an interview and tell them you’ve taught yourself with no credible evidence. More time they actually want proof, concrete proof and degrees provide that.
Exactly... Even some kind of certificate. SOMETHING.
exactly they actually want some sort of experience to back that up, projects you've worked on, internships you've been to etc most man who say uni isn't worth it dont want to do the extra work that is required for those who don't go to uni, they're just lazy.
I guess you haven't heard about the thousands of free courses google gives with certificates in the end. Also, if you truly are capable for a job and have the knowledge, a certificate isn't the only way to show proof
@@chosen3713 It does not matter, you're just proving his point. You need something, some sort of empirical evidence that you have have the skills. Call it a certificate, a piece of paper, a digital certificate, a diploma [...] does not matter as long as it's some kind of proof.

University I believe is for most people to go have fun and for the title of saying “I went to uni” whereas some actually want to go to learn but university doesn’t hold the same weight it once did as any Tom, dick or Harry can get into uni now and you can a degree in your industry but end up working in Tesco’s because you don’t have any experience
I think it also depends on what uni and what class you get out of it
You’ve said it all.

I see everyone’s point but I feel like people put too much emphasis on the uni debt thing because it’s not as deep as they are making it out to be. Yes, when you leave uni there will be a lot of money you’ll have to pay back but:
1. You don’t have to pay it back until your earning over a certain threshold annually
2. It takes a only a small chunk of your money when you’ve gotten to that threshold
3. Once you’ve passed a certain age the debt gets wiped anyway
It’s a ‘debt’ by definition but it is also conditional to certain standards that some people never reach and therefore never pay a penny back but still have their degree. 🤷🏾♀️

We put so much pressure on students to HAVE to go uni between 18-22. Some people might prefer to work and enjoy life and then go uni at 30 or 45 or 70 and maybe truly appreciate education at a mature age. The pressure from parents and the system to go uni at 18 is crazy
A Man said go to uni at 70 lmao

@@swayfitness5777 there is a loneliness pandemic happening in the west even before Corona came thru among the elderly and also the young. Imagine a world where u not only learn from a lecturer but also from fellow students who have life experience. Uni is not just lectures, it's a whole package. Degrees CAN open doors. That’s a fact.
After your first graduate role. Your degree matters less and experience, industry certifications and skills matter MORE.
Just choose wisely what you’re planning to study.
There is a threshold for when it comes to paying back the student loans and you’ll only be paying it off if your earning over £27,000 annually. When paying it off you only pay small amounts monthly. So your not necessarily in 10’s thousand of debt.
yeah its more like a tax
We can't all be entrepreneurs, we still need the doctors, nurses, teachers for our future generations
University is always a good back up, incase your business fails......
I went to uni, I dropped out then I went on to start my own business I am now 26 and the business is now turning over 730k last financial year and now on target to turnover 1.3/1.4. In my opinion uni is subjective to where you are going in life but personally I would prefer to look back in 40 years time and think “ok I gave it a go” my biggest fear is regret! Facts or super super facts?...Uni is hugely beneficial when you study the courses that your parents (especially if you're African). Such as law, accountant, doctor/nurse, and engineering. But you can still be a success financially and career wise without going to uni. The key is being able to network and connect with people. Which you learn the basics of networking when you extremely young in the environment you grow up in.
All degrees aren’t equal, you can have a great education that sets you up for life, or doss around with a weak degree and get little out of it…Uni’s will take 10k from both a serious and non serious student all the same, so pick wisely

Going to uni is important but it doesn’t guarantee your success.
Nk needs to low it 🤦🏽♀️ he's one jarring kid wallahi
A degree is just ONE OF THE OPTIONS, it doesn't make you smarter and it doesn't fast track anything, it's just another option of reaching your goals. I have studied Accounting and Finance, worked at Morgan Stanley, Unilever, Capital, Danone and many of my colleagues never stepped foot in uni.
That's what I'm saying. It can make it simpler, but if you have a goal, you should focus more on reaching that goal than HOW you reach it. If uni will help, go, if it doesn't make a difference, do what makes sense for you!
The degree gets you through the door. Then they look at your experience, portfolio. Then your personality during the interview. There are so many jobs that you think you don’t need a degree, the fraction of jobs you need a degree for compared to the ones you don’t need a degree for is large.
This episode of bkchat has me thinking about my uni days and where I am in life now. Although my experiences there and my degree were worth it, it was my work placements in my field that got me through the door in gaining my first full time job. Not my degree. Employers care more about experience as they want someone who can hit the ground running. This isn't an anti university statement. I'm just speaking my truth. Whether you're for higher education or not, have a goal. Have a vision for your life.
It was both my g. No degree and you wouldn't have gotten through the door. Trust.
What is even wrong in working for someone ? We should understand that majority of jobs crashing today is becomes people just feel, they can start a business because they can’t work for someone. How can you serve if you haven’t served ?
And let‘s be real even influencers „work for someone“.. you work and do things so that your viewers, supporters and customers continue supporting you

Formal education as a whole is just so outdated. The world is moving so fast and yet we are in school learning the same things as our grandparents. University is simply teachers guiding you through text books. People need to focus on self education as being autodidactic is paramount to success in any chosen field. I personally done an IT apprenticeship and have got practical experience no one can tell me I need uni they can only tell me go Uni to learn for further studies, however In my field i can attain certifications and corroborate those certs with practical experience.
