bank you for this. I often use paper bags wrinkled behind my photos of our farm. I'm definitely going to try your technique to make leather it's great!
This was so great, thank you!!! Very clear and easy to follow! I’d love to see a tutorial on how to transform this sheet into a book cover or traveler’s notebook!
Thank you for your video demo for this project. I just made 3 sheets of faux leather paper. I will now watch your video again to make the journals. Bless you!
This is so fun and exactly what I was looking for I knew I could take my brown packing materials and paper bags and make leather I'm going to experiment today.
Thanks! Great tutorial! You may want to mention you are contaminating the ink pads with other colors so use dedicated ink pads or use a sponge to apply the ink.
Thank you for watching! Personally, I didn’t have any problems with colors being altered and was able to continue to use my ink pads in a normal way after this project. However, you definitely have a point regarding the color contamination- it may be more visible with other color combinations. In that case, dedicated ink pads would be a good solution. But I would not use ink blenders or sponges. They would not provide the ink saturation needed for this project and would also apply the ink more evenly to the entire surface, while I mostly want the ink on the “peaks” of my creases to emphasize them. Happy crafting!
I love this - such a simple method as well. I would like to glue this to a cover on a book which I'm making as a steampunk junk journal. What sort of glue should I use to apply it to the book cover?
I'll be honest, I don't know what most of this means, but I'm so happy that this tutorial was helpful! May your redemptor dreadnought remain victorious on the battlefield! 🔥✌🔥 Thank you so much for watching! 😊
Thank you! Mod Podge is a type of glue used for decoupage. Technically, it's a waterbase glue, sealer and finish, all in one. If you don't have any, you can make a simplified version by mixing PVA glue (white glue) with water. Hope this helps! Happy crafting! 😊
Thanks for watching! You can iron the back (plain) side of the paper to smooth it out after your inks dry, then proceed with Mod Podge. Happy crafting!
Hello. I would like to send you an idea. It may be challenging. When ordering from Amazon, sometimes the items comes in a bubble blue and white package. I haven't used it in crafts, but I challenge you to come up with a technique and idea. Let me know what you think. Thank you for sharing your videos. 😂❤❤❤❤
That looks absolutely fabulous. Hope you show how you made a travelers note book, since where I live there are no craft stores and Wal Mart does not have anything.
Paint is thicker, so it would result in a different texture. If you absolutely have to use the paint, I would water it down a lot, and then build up the color to a desired hue. I would paint a coat, wait for it to (almost) dry, then paint the next coat, until you like the color. Good luck and happy crafting!

Glad you like it! I wouldn’t use it on the floor though, as it wouldn’t be durable enough to withstand mopping and traffic. But there are lots of other decorative uses to explore!
Thank you for watching! I wouldn’t use Vaseline, because it is greasy and could prevent the paper from absorbing the inks, and I’m not sure how it would interact with Mod Podge. You don’t have to use a hair conditioner, but it has to be some sort of humectant. Some viewers commented that they have successfully replaced hair conditioner with hand lotion and even sunscreen, but I never tried it out myself. I hope this helps! Happy crafting!
I did mine but it still feels like a paper bag, just a bit softer. Going to add more conditioner. I don't have stamps/ink so I dry brushed with acrylic paint. Could that prevent the paper from softening? I put the paint on before the conditioner.
I think the acrylic paint is the issue here. Like you said, it is likely preventing the paper from absorbing the humectant in the conditioner. I would try again without the paint. You may want to spray your paper with concentrated dark coffee instead of water. It will add a bit of color to your paper. I’d spray before and after crumpling up the paper. It should help to bring out the wrinkles and help with dimension and texture. Good luck!🍀
Thanks, Sonia! I used Ranger’s Distress Oxide in Vintage Photo and in Festive Berry, Ranger’s Distress Ink in Walnut Stain, and Stampin’ Up! ink pad in Basic Brown
Your faux leather is so beautiful! What colors did you use for the burgunday leather you showed at the very beginning? I really love it! @@chasingpaper2022
@@MS-vy9tv Thank you! I used a mix of colors for the burgundy leather. I believe it included Ranger’s distress oxides in Vintage Photo and Stampin Up! ink pads in Bravo Burgundy and Riding Hood red. I think those colors are retired, but it looks like Ranger’s Aged Mahogany distress oxide would work really well! I kept mixing and layering the colors until I created a hue I liked. Good luck and happy crafting! 😊
Thank you for watching! It is not as strong as leather, because, essentially, it is still thick paper. But it works really well when applied to stronger surfaces, such as wood or chipboard, book covers, etc. Hope this helps!
I only tried using distress inks and oxides, but you could try using a very strong (very dark) coffee. Brew it, cool it and pour it into your squirt bottle instead of water. The results will not be nearly as dark as using the inks, but in will give your leather a nice brown hue. I’ve also heard that some crafters use shoe polish. I can also tell what NOT to use. I do not recommend acrylic paints, as it will mess with the texture of your “leather”. Good luck!
Thank you! I believe it wouldn't work as good with butcher paper, because it has a thin plastic layer. You can try a brown packing paper instead. Good luck and happy crafting!
@chasingpaper2022 I gave it a try and what was a real game changer was using some re-inker mixed with water, that allowed me to get a nice dark brown colour. Thanks again

If you don't have Mod Podge in Brazil, you can make your own decoupage paste (there are many handmade recipes online) or simply dilute PVA glue with water until you reach the right consistency. Instead of a manila folder, you can use a cereal box or a similar food box. Hope this helps! Happy crafting!
