As a miniaturist, we often simulate leather with crushed, brown paper as its really effective on tiny things like book covers and all sorts of leather items.
I make my faux leather the way you do with the second technique, but before each wrinkle, I use glycerine on the paper, then crunch it up, open and add more glycerine, then wrinkle up again….two or three times. It requires a little bit of drying time, but it actually feels like real fabric/leather. I love your embossed leather; they look very rich like an old book cover. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! That’s a great technique as well! 👍 I made a video awhile back using a very similar technique on brown grocery bags, except I use a hair conditioner instead of glycerin 😊
@@magpie92766 yes. It takes a while to do this process, but man is it worth it! I usually do about 5 or 6 pieces at once so I will have it on hand. I usually use Kraft card stock instead of a bag as it’s a little bit thicker. It really feels like leather, looks like leather,,,,,must be leather!
I love that you call that size a wallet journal. That’s actually how I’ve always thought of them, good to know I’m not alone! And love the faux leather technique, very beautiful
I was so excited for this video! I’ve made faux leather with the intention on using it in a craft project but ended up rolling it up like a scroll and using it like that for decor in my living room! I love it! But I want to make that wallet journal. This video was fantastic! I like your videos bc you show how to make something and then you show how to incorporate what you’ve made into a project! I think that’s fantastic! A lot of times once I’ve learned how to make something I’m like “well, what do I do with it?” With your videos I never have that question. How nice! Thanks so much! ❤️💜💚
Thank you so very much, Paige! 😊 I always like hearing from you! 💕Glad you enjoyed this video and liked the projects! That is true - I don't like making something just for the sake of making 😂 I always want to put my materials to a good use! Hope you have a great rest of the weekend! Hugs! 🤗🌺
This technique does look like real leather. I love the two examples you made how to use the faux leather. Thank you. I truly enjoy your tutorials and appreciate you explaining so well. ❤

I really like the last projects. I think the paper bag would make a wonderful traveler's notebook cover. OF course there would need to be some tweaking of the layout...but I can see the whole thing in my mind. Thank you for the inspiration.
Fantastic video, quite taken by the 2nd project, and already thinking too much lol 😂, very inspirational and I will be gathering supplies to try this out. Love it, thank you 😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was wanting to try a faux leather project and hadn't even searched for it yet, but yours popped up in my feed, and this is just perfect, and i have everything but the gold foil...which is now on my shopping list lol...but i do have some rub n buff, so i can use that, instead. excellent tutorial and perfectly explained! Thanks again! and Beautiful projects!!!
If you dont have an embossing machine (like me) you can do the exact same thing with the embossing plates and a bottle! Just roll it back and forth and back and forth until you have what you want :)
I love these ideas!❤ I’m going to make a “wallet journal” to take on a vacation trip and document in that and add pics of the trip in there. Then I just have to add it to my big journal when I get home. Could you tell me which foil you used? Was it the kind you use with heat normally? Or the kind that doesn’t require the heat? And, what a great idea for either one really…just didn’t know you could use any foil with glue like that.
Thank you so much! 😊 So gad you liked the wallet journal, and I love your idea of using it on a vacation and then adding it to your big journal! 😍 The foil I use is iCraft Deco Foil. I never used it with heat, I think it's designed to work with foil adhesives like gel and sprays, but Scotch Permanent glue stick definitely works 😉 Happy crafting! 🤗🌺

The folio is perfect for ‘happy mail’ (great term btw) and I have several friends who could use a pick me up. I’m also an embroiderer and am thinking of including some hand embroidery in the journal. Probably going to back the fabric with painted rice paper so the page doesn’t get too thick and still has some flexibility. Your video was excellent; you present the information at a clearly and concisely with out a lot of side chatter and at a good pace. Thank you for all the work I know it takes to make these videos to share with us!

This is an amazing process you came up with. Beautiful 🤩 Would it turn out if you did both sides with tea bags and mod Podge of course each after the other dries.
Yes, I have made faux leather from brown wrapping paper and paper grocery bags using glycerine and water. It is great for pocket notebooks, journals, and more!
i looove the combination of brown paper bags and tea bags! wondering why i haven't come up with thät myself ... ? but: even more beautiful to be inspired by each other. thanks a lot for sharing! ps: also love the way you're playing with the gold touches
What is the tea bag? Did you make them? Can I make them? Or is there an alternative paper I might have on hand? Thanks for the technique; it is lovely. Also, can you use an acrylic gel medium in place of mod podge?
Thank you for watching! A tea bag is a paper/wood or plastic fiber material which is used to pre-package single cup servings of tea leaves. After placing a teabag full in a cup of hot water and thus brewing my tea, I pull out a bag and set it out to dry. Once it dries, I cut the bag open at the top, discard the tea leaves, and unfold and smooth out the tea bag. As a simple alternative to tea bags, you can try: 1) using a used coffee filter 2) a couple of layers of brown fast-food napkins 3) simply double up a paper bag. The texture with these won't be quite the same as a teabag, but the look will be very similar! Hope this helps! Happy crafting! 🤗🌺
