I realize that it may be too late by the time this video is released after editing and such but hopefully not. Please correct me if I’m wrong but I have a feeling that you intend to use your high cube conx’s partially for dry work spaces. If you are you really should use the trackhoe to either lay them on their sides or to rock them over far enough to get some type of work stand or heavy sawhorses under. The reason I say this is due to the fact that they need some type of insulation under the floor between the lateral bulkheads. The fork slots are simple enough to block off once you have them permanently located but putting the roof on top of them will complicate the process extremely. Spent a lot of hours in similar containers as shops on job sites as well as break rooms. Keeping them warm and dry in the winter is quite a task without the void under the floor insulated even with nearly new one trip containers. The amount of hardware and tools I’ve seen ruined from condensation in them is ridiculous. For the containers we used for break shacks most of the crew carried 5 gallon buckets in with them for lunch as a habit in wintertime just to prop our feet off of the freezing floor. The job I spent 12 years on where the containers were more permanent we actually used R30 insulation on the bottom of them. After the fiberglass batting was in between the bulkheads we screwed either sheet metal or 4x8 sheets of what looked like nylon to the bottom of them. The nylon sheets were really nothing more than plastic dump truck bed liner cut into manageable sizes.
The government branch worked at the same site but independently of us. They learned after the second winter how much humidity condenses in those containers. Two of the 40’ configuration were theirs, one of which housed much of the GPS computer hardware, signal repeaters, as well as radio communication electronics. They learned the hard way which caused much delay in the beginning phases of the job. Sadly as it was a government contract, that money comes from our pockets. Anyway, back to the original subject, if I’m too late and you’ve already begun roofing your shop there is still a solution. The solution may be a bit more on the pricey side but it’s more of a last resort. Expanding foam can be added at just about any time to the void under your containers but should be applied by a professional, hence the additional cost. The reason I mention professional installation is from a firsthand account of seeing what it does to the floor of the container. During a bridge job one of the company bosses thought he’d be slick and try insulating what had been the tool and rigging container while the rest of us were eating lunch in the other shack. The floor was strong enough to twist about 7/8 of the bulkheads in the bottom before turning into a busted splintered mess with around 10” of the outside skin warped at the bottom.
You have my most sincere apologies for dragging this out so long on your comments section. Just hope to get the message to you soon enough so you’re not backtracking later to spend extra time and money on what could be a much easier, cheaper process now. If anything else, do your own research on the subject to form your own conclusion, just thought it best to make you aware.

    Hello Riley,
I have 4 shipping containers used for storage. Under 3 of them, I used vapor barriers on the ground. This greatly reduces the moisture level inside. I used polyethylene film with 90 lb roofing rolled over the top of the plastic film. The containers were placed on railroad cross ties, providing an air space below. It also gives room for storage of items such as pipe.
    Good luck with the project,
    Len

Careful using freshly milled lumber for anything like this. The sheer amount of shrinkage it will have over the next 2-3 years will make the structure have issues if they bear any load. Milled lumber should be either kiln dried or let sit for at least year or two before its used for much so it has time to dry fully.

Can’t wait to see how you do the trusses….. add some clearstory window framing first? And totally aligned for more solar.
We did something similar at the ranch except ran trusses to the outside, giving us storage on the container. We framed them up a few feet as wall. We did that so it looked like a barn, for the neighbors. Works great. Equipment storage in the middle, storage and work space in the containers. Added a roll up door to one container to access the tools for the equipment, but should have just done a sliding barn door.

I hope you’re leveling and anchoring the containers. Also put 2 ground rods on each container. Weld hurricane straps to containers to affix the roof trusses. If you add a 4 foot knee wall on top of containers you can have a 13’ high ceiling. It will also provide additional storage on top of containers. You’ll be able to put implements that are seasonal or aren’t used frequently out of the weather using the excavator. You’ll fill the storage shed easily. You’ll wish you had room for 12’ Lean To’s on each side.

I would have used couple of those trees and put it under the containers to help roll it or pivot it in place. Looks good. I would get some solid concrete blocks or something to set those containers on. When I was overseas as a contractor, we made wouldn't blocks that were 12x12x12 of 2x4's to set containers on. Worked really well. That would give you more clearance. Will you be able to get all the equipment under the roof to work on them? What is your tallest or highest piece of equipment? Also by raising them up, you could pour a concrete floor later too. That would making working on equipment so much easier and better! You could also get same result by building some small knee walls onto of the containers too. Wouldn't take much to do that. It would be better in the long run if you had more clearance. Maybe even be able to add a overhead crane for some of those heavy lifting project or repairs!!

I agree with the other comments here. That trailer was pretty amazing. Plus, your previous abode shows more of your ingenuity. I can see how it's carried over to your Idaho location. 👍

I've been thinking you were in need of a machinery shed. Great plan! Yes, Riley, I've accused you not only of having plan, but a successful one!

Sometimes I think Courtney married you just to get to drive your toys! She always looks so excited when she gets behind the wheel so to speak. Both of you are living so large! What a wonderful life you have! Oliver is very blessed indeed.

Someone here mentioned maybe putting crossties under the sea cans Or perhaps concrete blocks. May not be a bad idea for rust prevention but also get you 7 more inches of height under your trusses.

I used a 20' for my kitchen and cloths dressing area. In winter it froze inside and dripped badly. The next summer I covered with large hay bales, the 3' wide x 3' x 8' long I got farmer to make long. We're a perfect fit. Covered in black plastic and tyres. Coldest to got was 11 C and warmest 24 C. Had double glazed, double doors in door end. Main doors permantly open. Outside temp from -8C to +39C. Changed my comfort level hugely.

5:40 - Glad to hear you are getting 2-3 gallons/hour out of your shallow well I think rain water harvesting in summer will be a must. I would like to see your water treatment system once it is installed.

Reilly I really admire the relationship you have with Courtney. My wife and I are very similar. We do custom builds and my wife trusts me completely and I trust her. We also will convey doubts and skepticisms!
