    Jokkmokk is about a Swedish market! I'd seen this in a couple lists recently but didn't look much closer at it until this video. Immediately went and ordered it for my parents as my dad's grandparents actually came to the US from Sweden and he's always been fascinated by studying Swedish culture. I'll probably end up getting it for myself, too, since it sounds like it plays nicely solo!

    Hey, nice video, and I like your reviews, but..... add some images or videos of when you was playing, or showing a little bit of inside of the game when you speak about it, that will add a lot of viewers, believe me. I like the video, but I was needed to go to other tab, look for the game, see how it looks, etc, that I love when people do it directly on the video, then that keep me on the video itself, and not going to open another tab. :) then, suggestion here only :)

    You didn't show us Penny's card in Bark Avenue. I was looking forward to seeing it.

      Awh I'm so sorry! I'll make sure to show it in another video! I do think I showed it in the livestream of Bark Avenue I did!

    Oh! Penny is in Bark Avenue!!!! She's a star!
    Is it better than Dog Park??
    I'd like to try Jokkmokk, it would remind me of Sweden, it's such a beautiful country.
    I take a note about Numbsters, and I'm highly interested by Mythwind now!
    Tonight, I'm playing the solo mode for Knarr which works very well (but I only know the French version of it, I don't think anyone has translated it) and a chapter of Eila and something shiny (I try to make it lasts the longer possible, I love this game!)
    Thank you a lot for these discoveries Jenna! Have an excellent week end at your convention!

      Dog Park and Bark Avenue are VERY different games. If you like pick up and deliver games with objectives choose Bark Avenue. If you like auction, resource management and set collection choose Dog Park. Both are wonderful games! 😊👍🏻

    I'm on my fourth solo campaign of Welcome to the Moon....you can imagine how much I love it! The variety is astounding, it truly plays differently on each sheet and there are tons of twists to the gameplay found in the campaign

    I played Welcome to the Moon in campaign mode solo. It's become rare that I play anything with others since my family's not into it. I haven't picked up Welcome to the moon in a few months. Each time I went to a new map, I felt like I was learning again but I've gotten to the part of the campaign where more cards get added in and by this point I've played all the boards several times so while I have to review the differences for a different map, they don't feel like they have a learning curve anymore. Welcome to.. was one of my top 3 games when I bought Welcome to the Moon and Welcome to now doesn't hold much appeal for me. But I have all the maps for Welcome to, so I am going to play all the maps at some point this year and see if that revives the interest.

    I’ve played Jokkmokk solo and with 2 and 4 players. I didn’t mind it solo but the game really shines with 3 to 5 players.

    • @TheBoardGameGarden

      Yeah it's great multiplayer since it's a bit more challenging! With the solo mode the AI players do take cards but it is always your choice which cards they take which makes it a bit easier. 👍🏻

    Jenna, I'm curious, you're going to a NJ and you went to a PA convention recently. We know you're in Canada, are you close to the NY state border (not asking for detail - just curious since it's quite a drive from Canada to NJ/PA - I grew up in PA with a 6 hour drive to Niagara FAlls, and I'm now in NY state with a 3-4 hour drive to the border)? Ontario's huge and I've driven through it to get to Minnesota (middle top of USA) as well as vacation there of course. I brought Numbsters with me to the hospital as an option to play while I waited for surgery, but I was able to situp enough to use the hospital table and play fliptown and spaceshipped instead while I waited.

    • @TheBoardGameGarden
      @TheBoardGameGarden  7 месяцев назад +1

      I'm about an hour and a half drive from the border! We drove to PA and that took about 9 hours. And for NJ I ended up flying, which was an hour and a half flight. 😊👍🏻 Ohhh I really want to play Fliptown! Looks great!

      @@TheBoardGameGarden other than following the Great Lakes shores, the farthest I've been into Canada was going to Bancroft which I think was about 3 hours over the border.

    I was able to get solo plays of Spirit Island which is always great, and Age of Comics, which I did more as a two handed solo game for learning and being able to teach the game to my wife, but it was great! I know Age of Comics has a solo mode as well so I am excited to look into it!

      @@TheBoardGameGarden It was very fun! I had heard it talked about in how it just makes sense of what you need/want to do and it really does. I feel like it will probably be better with 3 or 4 compared to two, but hopefully I will be able to see what the solo mode is like soon!

    For me, boardgames are meant to play with others, interacting and having fun together. And yet more and more people play games solo which possibly reflects how this generation is developing negative attitudes in relations /forming friendships and spending time together. Social interaction requires also time and today people are busy, overwhelmed by demands of living so there is a lot negative aspects that affect this wonderful hobby.

    • @SleepyVoice
      @SleepyVoice 8 месяцев назад +11

      I once shared a similar view, believing board games were solely about the joy of company. But I’ve discovered a magical aspect of playing alone. It’s a cherished ‘me time’ with the game as my puzzle. Fortunately, I enjoy that solitude. It seems not everyone feels comfortable with it, and that’s okay. For those who prefer the traditional way, there are plenty of other videos to revisit that celebrate shared gameplay. Each to their own, right? 😊

      @@SleepyVoice Beside playing solo and with friends.... Sometimes I start a boardgame solo, leave it on a table in the corner and just do some play moves from time to time spread over 2 days or more. Sometimes only 1-2 moves. very relaxing.

      I get what youre saying. I dont know if it is true though. Perhaps more people are playing solo games *along* and with their gaming groups. Perhaps there are new people to the hobby who primarily enjoy solo games; the pandemic helped with this. Making it seem like the community is moving to solo but isnt.
      Personally I agree with you overall. I enjoy board games, and now video games, for the in person experience. Board games in particular let me act in ways I wouldnt in real life. Being a passive ass to block space. Lying about moves Ill make or truces I made. I can be conevying and sneaky and brutish (within reason) without true negative repercussions.
      Along with this, the complete opposite of the spectrum. I can have fun in ways I otherwise cant. Jokes that wouldnt appear otherwise. Part of the fun is being around others and goofing a bit. Part of the fun is out thinking them, thinking with them, or being out thought. Loud, quiet, whatever.
      In the other comment I agree with them *if* I was able to set it up in a corner and plat for 30 mins every day or something. Set up and tear down kill me. Amd playing through a game alone for long would drive me mad. The only reason I play solo now is to learn a game before bringing it somewhere.

      I totally disagree with you @Greggiexplore.
      1: how will you do if your family and friends dont play BG???
      Go to BG cafés? OK... but:
      2: I'm disabled and don't go out, because moving is way too painful. I must take morphine and fentanyl to relieve my pains (don't worry: these products are highly scrutinized here in France, it's impossible to get to the same sad situation as in the USA - sorry for my grammar!)
      Playing BG helps me a lot to spend time and makes me think to sth else than disease and pain. It brings me joy. Hobbies like playing BG, even in a solitary way, save people, you know.
      Sorry for my " negative attitudes in relations /forming friendships".
      I find your comment very patronizing, nearly hurtful towards people who don't have the chance to have a huge circle of friends.
