Actually it's Sothis possessing Byleth's body who kills Jeralt, don't tell me that voice speaking was Byleth. You should probably rename the video to Sothis kills Rodrigue. XD It's Byleth's body but it's not Byleth being in control there.
@@Karomix3 brotha which one do you smoke?
Shez: (Kills Jeralt)
Byleth: Oh. So, you wanna play “Lose a dad”, huh? Watch this! *(Kills Rodrigue)*
Felix: BITCH! HE WAS MINE DAD!!!
Byleth: Wait what do mean that wasn’t your dad? … Why do I hear boss music?
Byleth: Wrong dad Sothis!
Sothis: Oh no... anyways,
REALLY ironic too given the touching scene from Azure Moon in Three Houses.
Interestingly, Rodrigue’s death could not have possibly been motivated by Jeralt’s since Byleth (and likely Sothis) only learn about it in the cutscene after Rodrigue gets ganked. So Sothis!Byleth really did just kill Rodrigue for no reason.
At the very least he got an actual cutscene for it this time
A moment of silence for those who grinded Rodrigue without recruiting Byleth.

her calling the dragons that were made into their relics by name is actually chilling.
I think she was referring to their titles, not actually names, just like she dose with Flayn, Seteth, and Rhea.
Still referring to the original dragons
@@4wheal Flayn, Seteth, and Rhea aren't their real names.
As sad as it is, I think this scene shows how well they wrote Felix this time. Even in Three Houses he always seemed to have his guard up, not letting his emotions out that much. In Three Hopes you see so much more of his softer, emotional side (at least I think so) and I love that.
I think we have Dimitri not showing his true colours to thank for that. And maybe because Rodrigue doesn’t talk much about Glenn’s ‘heroic’ sacrifice. But from a writer’s perspective, it’s refreshing seeing Felix’s supports most of the time him not being a prick and actually having mutual character development
@@LFPman Or maybe because in this route, Dimitri finally can trust and depend in others (even Felix) so that's why he can kill that boar side of him so that's why Felix is more calmer not only with him, with everybody
@@LFPman there’s no “true” side of him, that was but a consequence of years of emotional abuse and social isolation.
@L.F.P. man That wasn't Dimitri ture side more his trauma and abuse driving him insane the games make it clear its not really his ture personality
It seems that was poor wording choice on my end. Noted for next time
When Sothis sees Dimitri and Felix's weapons, she knows that those are Heroes' Relics, made from her children's bones, and is very unhappy about them. That's why she says "You would offer them as tribute?"
Why doesn’t she recognize them in houses tho

Felix switching from shock to rage in less than a second at 1:54 is a kind of great moment. Sass the old man all he wants, he'll still be hurting seeing him die.
"Why are you mad, son? I'm dying like a true knight."
Most impactful death compared to the other 2 routes, not only is Rodrigue just character you get attached to more than Judith or Randolph, but you can see how heavily it weighs on the entire team and of course Dimitri and Felix. The other routes are like "oh no they died! that's fucked up...... moving on...."
On top of losing a party member. No matter how good or bad he may have been.
yeah Rodrigue had pretty much adopted Shez at that point...

@@suprememidnight1628 Arguably the *real* "cost" to axing Jeralt on Scarlet Blaze is that you dont get to team up with Claude

Fire Emblem Three Houses if you take the Blue Lion route: *Dimitri and Byleth being in each other's life, and in some cases, fall in love and living happily ever after*
Fire Emblem Three Hopes if you take the Blue Lion route and DON'T recruit Byleth: *Byleth upholds her name as the Ashen Demon and kills Rodrigue in cold blood, thus making her a personal enemy to Dimitri*
How sad it is that one little change in history can drastically change so much?
I was wondering the same thing but with Edelgard. One small change and her original plan drastically changes. In the end it still led to war and death but the timeline and events were changed. I wonder if she had met someone to help her before she was experimented on would she had been more understanding and cooperative.
@@dracomight I mean, in Three Houses, she worked with Those Who Slither In The Dark while in Three Hopes, she turned against them to sever her ties with them. She still went to war regardless, but without TWSITD.
That’s all Shez’s fault, which, ironically, is never brought up.
Right?
It’s still hard to believe that that one little change drastically changed the timelines. I guess Shez is the embodiment of “Moves a chair, the timeline:” except that chair was more valuable than you thought
Yeah, this scene was handled way differently from the other two routes, cause you lose an actual unit, not a green unit like Randolph and Judith. Rodrigue has supports, is very involved in the story, and is ultimately someone that had many relations with various characters. So the impact hits a lot harder for everyone in the cast, especially Dimitri and Felix.
Also, at least Felix DID get to be there when his father died here. Looking at you, Azure Moon.
Probably why he was even more pissed in his AM A support with Dimitri. He couldn't stop his father from dying... and his father died just like his brother did. Protecting the "boar" prince.
@@googleisevil8958 And in AM, Rodrigue's death can be blamed on Dimitri. None of that would have happened if Dimitri helped reclaim Fhirdiad to be better equipped to win the war, but instead, Dimitri insisted they press on to get to Enbarr.
@@0axis771 Well let's also remember he was also very careless and let Fleche get to too close. Remember he allowed her to get close only because he sympathized with her want for revenge. So Fleche was able to get close enough to strike him, making him completely helpless before she attempted to claim his live. That's when Rodrigue had to step in.
I'd say Rodrigue's fate was seal the moment Dimitri let her into the army. Still, he is was also extremely careless and short sighted. It probably would have been worse if he continued after Gronder.
"Not exactly the way I thought I'd meet my end..."
Well, it could've been worse. At least it wasn't by your own son's hand this time.
This scene always irritated me. Not for the fact that Rodrigue died, it was that the other characters who died as a result of not recruiting Byleth are not playable before their death. (I'm looking at you Judith)
Those other cutscenes would've been more impactful had them been Jeritza/Monica and Holst imo.
@@carlosabrahamvazquez5719 also Byleth defeating Jeritza/Holst makes them look even more menacing, since Holst and Jeritza are super strong in canon
Agree. It could have been Gustave instead of Rodrigue and it would have had the same impact, albeit Annette over Felix.

Honestly, all three Byleth kills were incredibly easy to avoid, but this one is second only to Judith’s Big Stupid Charge To Attack Byleth in how easily avoidable it was.
Intelligent Systems will do anything to avoid making Judith playable
To be fair to Rodrigue, he thought the battle was over, as did everyone else.
I disagree, before I had even been told it could happen I had already triggered things which locked me into it. Just playing the game naturally without grinding and not even forging weapons.
Not to mention the warning itself is incredibly easy to miss especially since certain actions will remove the dialogue box meaning you're relying on hearing talking over someone shouting.
It is possible to do some too quickly or outright deny information.
isnt the implication that byleth/sothis teleported (via divine pulse) behind him and stabbed him before he could react?
Doesnt matter how good you are and how much you have your guard up if you opponent essentially controls time.

Yeah, but the fact that Shez doesn't get murdered within five seconds of fighting Byleth definitely means that their time stop has limits. Also, Shez kinda kicks their ass later. Point is, Rodrigue had a skill issue. And, to be fair, couldn't teleport, but still.
Byleth: Mercenaries live short lives

Sothis throws a bigger hissy fit over Jeralt than Byleth does
Well Sothis hated Arval and got really mad by Shez.
@@nuibaba280 considering Arval is a piece of shit, that’s not surprising.
Sothis is mad because yes they care about Byleth, and Sothis actually has emotions compared to Byleth's stoicness, but I'm sure half of that hissy fit was just trying to convince Byleth to hand over their body for Sothis' strength. Clearly Sothis just wanted to kill Arval and take the body and was like "well let's kill two birds with one stone we have even more reason to kill them"
damn the deaths in the other routes at least give the characters a chance to defend themselves, but that was cold af.
At least she didn't look you dead in the eyes when she did it.
Honestly, it makes sense Byleth'd need a sneak attack for Rodrique, he's got loads more battle experience, and wields a lance, something they wouldn't be the best at defeating. Better to ensure Victory instead of getting yourself killed.

The steadfast...the Vigorous...those names must be for the dragon form of the Nabateans who were butchered by Nemesis and his followers.
I wonder what Sothis had done had she the chance to full manifest again and become God again. Something tells me that instead of keeping the System as is, she would crush all Noble houses to regain the remnants of her Children again.
@@plinfan6541 She would of course seek retaliation for her children, but first she would have to subjugate Byleth and take them completely over, which is nearly impossible.

It would've been nice if Dimtri absolutely lost his mind, showing his anger like in Three Houses.
But this scene was so brutal. Rodrigue gets killed with no warning whatsoever
Sothis: The Steadfast and the Vigorous… you would offer both as tribute?
Dimitri: Tribute?
Felix: Tribute?
Sothis: They are the remains of the children of the Goddess or in other words, *MY* children.

Regaining your memories then seeing your children's heart and bones used as weapons by their killer's descendants... I really don't blame Sothis 😌
You know, for as soft as her language was Sothis's words here honestly piss me off more than a little bit.
Not only is she blaming Byleth, but when you take into account her motive.... "If only you'd just *LET ME* bodyjack you, your father would still be alive!" feels rather skeevy.
She comes off as more than a little bit of a manipulative bitch in 3 Hopes, which is disheartening when you see how much she genuinely cares in 3 Houses.
I'm okay with this, honestly, considering it's an AU, and as 3 hopes have expanded upon the Canon of events before the game, it's interesting to think about what kind of person/deity Sothis really was without her memory loss
Idk, having yourself and children killed and get their heart and bones converted to weapons and lose all your memories...only to regain said memories all at once, would really enrage a parent.
@@acshepard6779 true and it’s possible that Sothis not getting a chance to bond with byleth may have played a role in how she treats him with her memories back. Lore accurate Sothis. Y'all forget she genocided the entire human race previously, after coming out of nowhere to force their worship.
I love that even though Felix gives his dad shit he clearly is hurt by Rodrigues death
This is sad considering this is the only choice with actual consequences. This is one of my favorite things about azure gleam. If you dont recruit byleth, then rodrigue, a playable unit dies.
I like the consequences but I also don't like the way the map itself was handled. If this isn't ng+ or you didn't grind the hell outta the game before reaching this point its a hellish map to overcome because you have to solo most of the map while telling your band of idiots to stay at base since you're units are likely to do something stupid and trigger the failstate that caused byleth to be unrecruitable so it's a slog of a map to get through. It's not a map you get through strategically as it is a map you slog your way through it.
@@RaidenKaiser Actually if you just press ZR and select all out defense while hovering over the unit you're playing, they'll follow you.
@@DarknesstheHedgehog6 they will follow you but it wont help if youre too far ahead they will take shortcuts and run into jeralt's mercs to approach. The best strategy is to tell them all to stay put at the main base and pray that felix doesnt get himself killed and then when you sneak past jeralt's mercs then you order them to interrupt alois assault. its tricky and its also done in a way without grinding like hell you most likely arent going to hit s rank your first attempt to blaze through before hitting time limit.
@@RaidenKaiser Oh, I guess that explains things cause I always made sure everyone was close together. So I guess that's why I never saw them take shortcuts.
@@DarknesstheHedgehog6 they always end up too far behind for me because I use shadow flash cuz you don't have alot of time before Felix gets himself killed. This map honestly wouldn't suck so bad if you could manually control Felix and Dimitri but unfortunately you can't.

A very epic scene in my opinion. Byleth's entrance, Felix and Demitri's reactions, Sothis not giving a damn, it's just so intense. This game makes Byleth seem a lot more intimidating.

this scene was so beautifully done as much as it is sad to see Rodrigue get killed :(
The way that Felix gets on Dimitri's face when he admits he's reckless and they start arguing like some old couple LUL
Not only that, both of their relics light up as soon as they see Rodrigue fall, and Felix attacking without care(funny he calls Dimitri reckless ad he's the first to charge, a good contrast between those two in that situation) with a desperate attempt to cut Byleth down immediately.
My precious Blue Lions aaaa :(
You can tell Felix still loved his dad because even though he could've chased Byleth down, he turned around to try aiding his dad and even threw his relic like nothing.
When Rodrigue was speaking his last words, Felix looked so so pained and kept nodding(in a way that's also a good contrast and quite sad since he spent most of his last few years saying no to his dad and always giving him the cold shoulder since Glenn's death). Felix closing his eyes slightly to maybe keep himself from crying? And Dima's words breaking when he told Rodrigue they'd get help.
And when Rodrigue passes, Felix simply stays there holding, staring at him like he wanted to say a million things to him he couldn't for many years.
Meanwhile in an alternate universe Felix pegs his father's killer while asking her to marry him 😂
pretty sure she's the one who pegs him
*BONK!*
Byleth's ability to control time is very similar to Shadow's Chaos Control! It's freakin' amazing!
It's strange that, out of the three, the one death that would've had me cry is the one death I've never gotten. I always recruited Byleth and Jeralt in Azure Gleam, and I'm glad I did. Regardless, thanks for uploading this. Now I don't need to get it myself, lol. Not too bothered about getting the extra gallery full.

Hot take, this is to my mind the most unfortunately believable outcome for this situation for Azure Gleam. A lot of that route if you read between the lines is the lions stumbling through situations without really understanding the larger situation and either making new problems or not really fixing old ones beyond killing someone. This is the one route where even in the good ending it’s made clear that the war is far from over and likely to expand.

This one was probably the worst death because Rodrigue is an actual character and not only that you lose a playable unit. It would've made it equal if Randolph was part of the story and playable with supports along with Judith but nooooooo
Someone else said it in the comments, about how replacing Randolph & Judith with Jeritza/Monica & Holst respectively would be a lot better because of 2 reasons
1: It would have the same effect that Rodrigue's death has in Azure Gleam. You didn't just lose some random NPC, you lost an actual member of your army that you got to know throughout the game. Since Jeritza & Holst are the 2 exclusive *"Jagen"* characters for their respective routes, it would make more sense if they died instead.
2: It would make Byleth an even bigger threat. Both Jeritza & Holst are revered as very powerful warriors in the land of Fódlan, having Byleth take them out like it's nothing would be a great way to show just how powerful she truly is & truly show why her title is *"The Ashen Demon"*
What do you think?
@@BardockSkywalker that sounds awesome, seeing these two op characters taken down like nothing makes the Byleths seem so much more powerful. I could see why people like Judith imo she's mid but we never got to know Randolf so his death means nothing. We never got to know Judith all that well, they both should've been playable. Rodrigue has an impact because we can play with him, learn about him, see him interact with other characters, has a cool design, and you *lose* someone forever on casual mode
@@pigeonleader About that... What happens if you lose Rodrigue BEFORE this chapter? Does the cutscene just not play here? Cause it doesn't flow as well narrative wise
@@BardockSkywalker idk
@@BardockSkywalkerIt's impossible to lose Rodrigue before this because he has the almighty plot armor.
I might be in the minority here, but I feel like Azure Gleam's story works better if you DON'T recruit Byleth.
1. Rodrigue's death is reminiscent of his death in Azure Moon, as is Jeralt's. Having them survive just feels... off.
2. Shez and Byleth's final cutscene is really cool, and I feel like Byleth dying is fitting in this timeline.
3. No Byleth means no Zaharas, and no on/off switch on Edelgard's amnesia.
4. Rodrigue's death gives Dimitri and Felix character development, and brings them closer together.
He died like a true knight
wait this can happen in azure gleam?
yes! If you dont recruit Byleth
If you don't recruit Byleth
Dose this mean Rodrigue is out of the roster?
@@TheEdgeshadow duh
What happen when you don't recruit byleth in scarlet blaze and golden wildfire on the very spot? I wonder that because i never failed on these ones i don't even know any way for failing unconsciously like OK scarlet blaze I figured out that if you kill baron mateus you ruined your byleth recruitment because he's required to break the bridge so byleth cant reach rodrigue easy but what is a way to fail in a Randolph revenge byleth recruitment lol in azure gleam I failed to recruit them because there its very schematic way made and I am never able to do it from a first try instead I need to run few times not even a second time works for me
If not recruited, Byleth will kill Randolph in Scarlet Blaze while in Golden Wildfire he kills Judith
For Golden Wildfire, the only thing that happens is Byleth kills Judith... well, actually, Judith's stupidity (by charging headfirst towards Byleth) kills Judith. Scarlet Blaze has Byleth kill Randolph AND they manage to convince Claude (at least, I'm pretty sure that's what happens) to betray the empire. This is also a year in the future for your comment, so I'm guessing you already knew?
I fucking hate myself for letting Jeralt and Rodrigue die ! I thought I picked the way where you can recruit Byleth (And so , let Rodrigue and Jeralt live)
At this point this should be called byleth kills everyone
Byleth kills every last one of them!
Ayo
Welp. Here we go again...
Sothis kills him. Not Byleth. I wonder why she did it.
They litelarly used her children's bones (the hero's relics) as their weapons.
I didn't recruit byleth in SB and GW cause Judith and Randolf aren't playable characters throughout the game(still liked them though)
Recruiting Byleth in Scarlet Blaze impacts the Alliance between Edelgard and Claude, unlike it not meaning a thing here besides losing Rodrigue as playable.
the Hypocrisy!!
Why is Byleth running though, she can theoretically fight the both of them and probably still win even without Sothis, with Sothis its almost guaranteed lol
Byleth didn't want to do that, she have to retreat at that time, since she and Jeralt's mercenaries has already failed their mission. This cutscene is happened after their mission failed, meaning they have to retreat, but Sothis refuses to do that. And that's what happened, Byleth didn't want to do that.
@@3.giabao382 Yeah thats the point why didnt she want to do that when she can win if she do that.
@@flipperflapper6682 she only following Jeralt's order, so she has no intention of killing those people "yet". Not to mention, she only kills those people in her way. But in this cutscene, Dimitri and Felix are chasing after her, because she run away (when she noticed Sothis begin to take control of her body again, and Byleth at that time, didn't have a friendly relationship yet so she didn't trust her).
@@3.giabao382 Jeralt is dead so his order no longer matters, not to mention that She ought to want revenge, and in the end she still could just fight both Dimitri and Felix 1v2 lmao and she'll still win.
@@flipperflapper6682 When Byleth is running away, she didn't know Jeralt is dead until she met Alois. After she learned his death, she begins to lose her will to fight and live.
Rodrigue died like a true knight. 😎
Huh. I kinda surprised but kinda not surprised that Byleth calls Jeralt but his name. Them(Byleth) calling him Dad or Father never seemed right for their character.
To be honest, Sothis had every right ti kill Rodrigue. No ofense, but (*spoiler warning*) litelarly, Rodrigue's family and other noble familys used the hero's relic... that were made out of Sothis's children! (Note that Sothis doesn't have memory problems here) in their defense, they simply didn't know. Still, the children's bones is causing them suffering...
How my dad saw his family members getting massacred by the military be like.
what route ?
Azure Gleam. Duh!
More like sothis kills rodrigue
Technicalky speaking she had every right to kill him since his son and his friend's son and he himself used her children's bones. And yeah, they didn't know but still, had every right.
Somehow shittier than Rodrigue’s death in Three Houses
This was just dumb event in the story that left a bad taste in the mouth. One of many events that contributed to the overall dissatisfaction and downfall of the game.
this game was amazing and expanded a lot on the three lords. Shez is arguably a better protag then byleth.
No ofense, but when it comes to emotional support, Shez isn't good at it.
1. Shez knew nothing about Dimitri's darkened heart (never played the game so safetly assumig they never know). If that's the case, I don't think Shez could help the five-year version of him. Personaly, Byleth could understand cause they too used to kill without mercy.
2. Knew nothing about Claude's fake smile and safetley assuming again they never know...
3. Okay hear me out, Byleth did kill Rodrigue here while Sothis possesed them. But she had every right to kill him (even though she's a lot rude and meaner here). (Sure they didn't know) they litelarly are usinf her kid's bones.
4: there is a possibility that Byleth could go back in time to save his students (suspicously enough the game resets and you don't get to explore after finishing a route). They were willing to go back in time to find a way for them to live in peace.
Agreed, turned me off fire emblem which was conclusively killed with toothpaste-kun and the terrible fanservice of that game.
