As a huge Bleach fan, the way you described Byakuya as “classy and royal” Orihime as a “girly girl” and Renji + Grimmjow as “thugs” and Uryu as somebody who is “responsible and put together” is LITERALLY SPOT ON regarding their personalities within the manga/show. You being somebody who hasn’t watched the show, the fact that you could see their personality just off of some pictures shows how Tite Kubo is a master illustrator! Great video
@@ironclad-m3qi thought the less usage of the background helps alot in focusing your eyes in locking to the character in the panels and avoid confusion in fight scenes. Kubo knows how to use it right.
@@ironclad-m3q believe it or not, I have never noticed lack of background the entire time I read the manga. I was so confused when I heard people complaining about it.
I KNOW!! Even nailed Chad's laid back personality. Describing Renji as "laid back but with a bite" is also spot on. I think it's amazing how these characters also reflect their personalities in their outfits and design.
Can you tell Kubo planed on being a fashion designer before becoming a mangaka? It really helps to distinguish everyone and give so much more personallity
@@swapnavadey6096 I wouldn't call it top tier. But when it's at its best the story is very good. That said, when it's at its worst the story is absolutely awful. Poor guy was too overworked to really keep the quality consistent following Soul Society and especially Hueco Mundo/Fake Karakura. Hence the awful Fullbring arc and TYBW falling off of a massive cliff in its latter half.
This video really does highlight kubo's strength as an artist. Even as someone who has never seen or read the series you can easily pick up on exactly what kind of vibe each character has just from their choices in fashion. And these trends are consisten in kubo's art
Kubo has always been able to tell so much about characters through their designs. You can go through every single names character, even some of the minor ones that show up once to get bodied and never seen again, that tells you more about their character than pages of exposition ever could
Cool tidbit: Kubo actually started out as a fashion designer before becoming a mangaka and he still does some fashion design work (not at the moment since he’s working with the animation team on the TYBW anime adaptation)
You've hit the mark basically across the board here. Particularly with your descriptions of Byakuya. You called him elite and he's the head of a noble family, more of high nobility really.
I don't even think it's a widows peak, i think he shaves it to have his tats showing. I know people with tattoos around the scalp and hairline and they do have to shave it back so it's visible
Just wanted to say that this channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I think a lot of people, men especially and me personally, see fashion and the culture surrounding it as this impenetrable clique of weirdos doing weird things for weirdness's sake. You do really great job of explaining what you enjoy about the outfits and why in a manner that's brief but insightful. Obviously you don't need to justify to anyone what you enjoy and why, but the way you describe what's appealing in these designs is really engaging and helps me understand a culture that's otherwise very obscure to me.
Same here, I don't really care about how I look, all I need is to be physically comfortable. But I don't like to wear stuff that's too revealing either. Anyways, enjoy how he explains how people can give off certain vibes by utilizing different methods and how accurate he is about the character personalities.
To be fair, high fashion and the culture surrounding it is an impenetrable clique of weirdos doing weird things for weirdness sake. But like every other fandom, those are the extreme examples and the extremes of most things typically turn most people off. (Talking about those high fashion shows where they literally were wearing other people as "clothing" and other weird stuff) The way this guy expressed fashion is definitely way more palatable to even someone who may not care much for fashion.
Fashion is inherently about self-expression, so the approach Bleach and many other manga have where you can extrapolate a character's personality and role from their fashion is always a fun way to learn about fashion, it's awesome
According to Kubo, Rukia doesen't like form-fitting outfits and likes dresses and i love the thought that went into all these characters style... you can tell the artist thought about what kind of clothing store every character would go to and what they prefer. This man is such a good artist...
Now that I think of it, Rukia's aversion to the spotlight in the art really fits with her character. Before her and Renji made it into the Shinigami academy they were street rats. They got by on being less noticeable and obnoxiously tough respectively. Then once Byakuya adopted her into the Kuchiki family she was a noble. She was trained to have proper presence and bearing for her station, but as her station is "that girl Byakuya adopted as his sister because she's his late wife's little sister" her proper presence and bearing is "looking pretty off to the side with the rest of the unimportant ladies and third sons while the important people do business." A position Byakuya enforced on her out of a desire to keep her away from the kind of danger important and powerful nobles have to contend with. We see a bit more personalization and assertiveness to her fashion after the timeskip when Byakuya quits impeding her advancement up the officer ranks to Lieutenant and lets her have more control over her life.
Oh my God, "tucked away," that's it! In Bleach, the character's powers reflect their personalities, but I could never quite hone in on the connection between Rukia and her powers. Elemental powers are a lot harder for me to decipher than the other types, but you nailed it!
Very happy that you analysed the fashion inside Bleach, there's always been a big feeling from me that, if Kubo wouldn't have succeeded as a mangaka, he could've become a fashion designer 100%
Nice video. I’ve always summed up the style in this way Ichigo- punk, tight clothing, grungy Uryu- clean, sleek and fashionable but simple Renji- black men/boy street fashion in the 2000s Chad-he dresses like a adult man but often has no sleeves or tight long tops to show off his arms Orihime- cute, quirky, long skirts Rukia- long summer dresses, that’s what I remember her wearing mostly in the show/anime, however in the illustration spreads she does have tomboy energy with her clothes Byakuya- classy, clean, rich
I completely agree with you: Byakuya's style is akin to "old money," raised in a very traditional sense, looks really formal and put-together in a more traditional fashion sense. Ishida also has an "old money" feel to him, but more like "new money that's transitioning." He's still got a lot of formal attire, very much something I'd expect from a rich family, but he's also very young and wants to fit in while not bringing shame to his family's position. The son of an aristocrat would want to be stylish to meet the standards of his non-wealthy friends, who vastly outnumber him, but he also wants to please his family, so he's gotta find a balance. Byakuya doesn't need to do that because he's old, rich, and dead. Small circles, he only ever picked up Rukia because his dead wife bade him to find her sister(Rukia). Honestly I had to fact-check that last bit, I'm surprised over 10 years later that this bit of information was completely accurate. I think there's something wrong with me 😂
really cool how your analysis of their fashion lined up with how the characters are in the series! it’s cool to see how intentional kubo was with each of their looks in portraying their personality!
Glad you felt like the evaluation was accurate. I read somewhere (as i was researching) that Kubo tried to keep their personal style as consistent as possible 👌🏽
@@XDF also i’m glad you noticed how GOOD he was at designing pants. the way he makes patterned pants that don’t clash with the overall fit is just *chef’s kiss*
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of deep dives on Bleach fashion. I appreciate your attention to detail on the little aspects of each outfit that define the characters within the series. You brought up so many point I never noticed before as fan of almost a decade. Thank you for your perspective in this series!
Always, every time I saw those manga colored art pieces, It was always so clear that the clothing was such a key part in whatever made them feel so amazing and overall cool, but I never took the time to properly analyze them, so this video was something I always wanted to know. Seeing the way not only the poses but the clothing selection highlights each character's personality so consistently was very very interesting; and I say this because your interpretations were actually very accurate, so my conclusions are: clothing, as funny as it could sound to some, can work as a language that, if used correctly, can properly convey lots of information about someone, and I think, in these cases, Kubo definitely did an amazing job conveying personality through fashion selection.
Yup if you look at the manga books in the beginning Kubo also adds sound tracks on his character personality page. They also fit so well with the character
I swear, every single one of these outfits is wearable and incredibly stylish!! Like, I would KILL to have Orehime's wardrobe!! That white beach dress with the wide brimmed hat is to DIE for. And renji just wears the hardest fits. Of course, ichigo is always wearing the coolest stuff, and everyone just has personality and style even when they are all wearing the same thing. You can tell by the drape, the layering, the buttoning, the cut, you can tell who is who. And like, you can definitely go to the mall and find these kinds of things in stores
As someone who never really got interested in fashion I love those videos. I would also greatly appreciate a video in which you talk about where we could buy clothes similar to these as I'm completely clueless about that. I feel that with your recent videos you have reached many people that were not previously interested in fashion (I'm one of them) and it would be a nice idea. What I like from those bleach clothing is that even though they're original, they also feel like I could personally wear them outside whereas jojo is just a no-go for me even though I find them cool.
A good place to start are places like pintrest and grailed for finding and buying clothing and inspiration. From there you can find your own style or take notes from what fashion vloggers are doing to what suits you and your body proportions
Lol at Renji's style being "thuggish." I always wondered why Kubo made him look like that bc he's a sweetheart in the anime. He's known to be very caring towards Rukia. Grimmjow is the more "thuggish"/bad boy type. Renji is a nice guy.
Kubo always had a passion for fashion design, so to see him cross it over into character design and fun one off prints was something I always appreciated. Hes definitely a standout from other Manga artists. To see someone who breathes fashion like yourself appreciate his work was a pleasure to listen to.
Still swear he should start up his own clothing line. Kubo has potentially a serious side hustle. Teenage me loved Ichigo's style and I can see it had some influence on my tastes.
Dude i grew up with bleach and it always had that 2000s era street fashion. Ngl Soon enough the 2000s kids are ginna have their nostalgic era like the 90s and 80s guys
I'll be completely honest - I was completely prepared to be upset, I'm a hardcore Bleacher and this is my favorite series in the world and I've seen videos like this about bleach in the past and they were full of mistakes that could have been corrected with two minutes of Google, so I came prepared to be disappointed and upset. I am very, very happy to say that not only was I not disappointed, I literally applauded you at the end of the video in front of the screen. You did an excellent job in your analysis, even more so and especially relative to someone who hasn't seen the anime or read the manga. You managed to understand the personal style of the characters with great accuracy and you also managed to describe the personality of most of them without knowing it. I really enjoyed this video and you talked about a lot of pictures and drawings that I wanted you to talk about (basically the whole part of the art drawings from the manga) because there Kubo sensei really takes artistic freedom and creates beautiful things. You really did a good job with this video and I'm glad I watched it, I wonder what you'll think after you watch the anime or see some of Kubo Sensei's more contemporary Bleach and Burn the Witch artworks, because both places have more new designs and ones that are also very beautiful and interesting. An interesting thing to learn about Kubo sensei is, in the world of manga there is a thing called a A cel, (short for celluloid) or Cel shading, which is actually stickers with designs that are supposed to save time and effort when creating manga, some of the designs that exist are striped and floral designs as you often see in the fashion world (with a design that repeats itself exactly or stripes at precise intervals that in free drawing will be more difficult), and it is very clear when you use these because the pattern does not change with the folds in the fabric. Kubo Sensei almost never uses Cel shading in the manga-art and in the manga itself for fashion, he draws all the patterns by hand, which I feel is one of the things that gives the edge to his art Even in the pictures you put, the only one I have suspicions about is Orihime's skirt in the picture when the gang is leaning on the pillars, but I'm not absolutely sure- You can see that the pattern doesn't really change with the folds in the fabric and right next to it you can see in Yasutora's pants the less equal lines that were drawn by hand, as well as in the pattern in the shirt on Uryuu's waist and in Ichigo's belt, he could have used a cel but he didn't and he draws the patterns by hand And it increases the quality and beauty in my opinion a lot! I definitely enjoyed this video and your approach! If you are looking for recommendations, I recommend you check out the manga Kuroshitsuji by the creator Yana Toboso, but especially the manga because there are more designs and manga-art , a bit like what you did here with the division, and in general look at Yana's fashion design art, she is also responsible for the design of the phone game Twisted Wonderland and there are also some amazing designs there, I think you will enjoy seeing it, even if you don't make a video (because there it is more fashion for fashion's sake, although you can look at the clothes, especially the permanent kind of clothes of the characters in these places (daily clothes and school uniforms) as a mirror and indications of their personality, to one degree or another) because Yana's style is unique and beautiful . Thanks again for the video! And if you could give a link or tell me the site where you found the works and pictures I would be very happy and appreciate it, I'm interested if I know the site and how deep in terms of knowledge it is
really gives me appreciation to the amount of work and brainstorming a manga author has to do. not only do you have to think about the story progression but even the outfits of the characters as well. seems not important, but it sure does play a crucial role in characterizing and bringing out the personalities of each character.
I never noticed that Toshiro has that Sophisticated but sharp style which really highlights his personality workaholic smart confident with a bit of a temper
This is literally my favourite anime and all of this fashion stuff has been flying over my head until literally now. What the hell thanks for the analysis! And so much of it is so spot on with the characterisations of the cast! The fur theme especially for Renji considering his baboon-themed powers.
Bro! As someone who's been a Bleach fan for 14 years, who has been drawing for 24, went to school for art and storytelling, and started learning to sew and fashion in the past 2 years, this video served on every level. You were incredibly accurate in your assessment of the character's personalities and sensibilities through style but that just how skilled and knowledgeable both you and Kubo, the author/artist, are because he was able to exemplify it in his work, and you had the knowledge to pick up what he was putting down. As someone who wants to put more effort into fashion design in visual character storytelling, this was amazing. Thank you so much. Instant sub with the bell on.
I feel it's a sin that Kubo never made a fashion brand for a side hustle. The world needs more brands that have some character, and Kubo has had that for 20 years.
It's amazing just how much the author has managed to convey about his characters through fashion. And very good job with this video, I think you nailed your analysis.
Your channel is a breath of fresh air! I'm so happy to see thoughtful fashion analysis for such a variety of animated characters. As a character designer I'm just tickled by all this. For a show suggestion, I recommend RWBY (first 3 seasons though, when the original creator still was around). This show's director was known for being quite savvy in following trends, especially J-rock fashion. The outfits he designed for the main four protagonists are just top notch character design imo
In an interview, Kubo was asked what else he would want to do as a career choice if he had not gone with being a manga writer. He said that he would go into fashion design. It explains why so many characters and designs have drip
It really shows how good Kubo's art is in suggesting character personalities and even plot points based on their appearance. Byakuya is a noble. Rukia is a noble, Byakuya's adopted sister, and as such is expected to be more reserved. Pretty much all of the character details you picked up on are accurate to their in-world characters.
I know this is late and might've already been said, but the way you described Toshiro as "cool but sharp, and flowy" at the same time, that was a perfect description cause he has an ice elemental Zanpakuto. That was good 👏🏻
LOVE the focus of this one, showcasing how the variety of looks really gives insight into the characters. You do such a good job of pointing out how there is so much uniformity in outfits in Bleach, even in the casual wear, but there's so much subtle personality and uniqueness in that very uniformity. Great video, X!
The video is incredible! I am so glad that you can feel the archetypes of the characters through their expressions, poses and fashion. You are definitely on to something and even go into stuff like picture composition and where the characters are, that's amazing! This really highlights Kubo's ability to depict people and your skill to appreciate that. Yasutora is chill because he is a gentle giant, Rukia is reserved because she feels like a burden to her clan which Byakuya represents (hence his elite and strict demeanor somes from). I really wish you would also see styles of Kyoraku and Ukitake but what you've covered here is still a good chunk of the enormous cast. If you are looking into other manga series, I suggest taking a look into Jujutsu Kaisen which is a popular ongoing series even right now (but if you do, please take a look into manga-only characters (as of now) like Hakari and Kirara, their styles are IT!) Thank you! :)
I remember looking at a lot of these images in a shonen jump article back when I was a kid. I never really got into fashion, but I thought these looked so freaking cool and hearing you discuss all this in such a detailed way not only brings back the memories of that, but also might start a new passion
I really love your analysis! I like the way you explain how each outfit correlates to these character's personalities and how certain changes to their attire can either soften them up or sharpen their look to how they are naturally portrayed. A suggestion if you want another anime with some focus on fashion is Yu Yu Hakusho, from the 90s. The styles shown in the prints and in the anime for this show is something that I personally took inspiration from when I first started getting into fashion styles.
Found your videos recently, I was looking for fashionable characters to mimic and the algorithm gifted me your channel ! I just got into fashion for the first time in an attempt to dress better. So it is very helpful that you breakdown the outfits and why they work and what mood/image they create ,very helpful !
I've been enjoying these anime series fashion analyses you've been doing. Outfits are super important (and the most fun aspect for me) to me as a character designer, with Bleach as one of my inspirations...hearing someone give well-deserved love to Kubo's work feels great haha Side note, I like your half-tucked in shirt look.
I would've loved to see what you thought of their "bankais" and how it transforms a lot of the characters while still speaking to their personalities. Especially Rukia and her final one
Looking back and thinking about it, Ichigo(along with having had several emo friends growing up) had some level of influence on my clothing choices since my late teens. Looking back at the intro's and outro's, as well as these art pages. I can see either similar clothes or something in the same vain as his style. Its crazy what you subconsciously pick up on early in life and that works its way into your life and personality in various ways.
Your channel is quickly becoming a fave. Love Bleach and I'm happy to see someone talking about it and focusing on the fashion aspect. It's definitely something that is unique and stands out from the series.
Girl you hit it so acccurately 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ im in love with the splash art like, Tite Kubo really said “we gon do a fashion runwayyyyy” with the splash art and official art asked by shonen jump. I hope you have a great time watching the anime!
this is something i've never thought about when watching anime before, but now that you've explained it so well, i can't unsee it! it just makes me happy to see yet another layer of deep personalization to kubo's characters. it's something so simple that many people tend to miss it, but clearly, it speaks volumes. great video!!
Man, so many bull's eye remarks , and as a fan of bleach, it's so amazing to see your analysis. Especially about Rukia and Renji. She was really depicted as modest in early arc , also as bearing the household name from a noble house . While Renji absolutely adore those coat fur as he literally wear those after using his bankai (sword release) power.
Fur is a common theme with Renji's outfits, especial around the shoulders because his bankai (ultimate power up) has fur, often around his shoulders as well - since his ability is the "great baboon king" which again accentuates his "wild" nature! really spot on character design from kubo
This is some pretty unique content that i haven't come across before. I'm not one to care much at all for fashion but i ended up watching the whole video hearing you break down their outfits so hats off to you.
Popped up randomly! As a fan of fashion i love this analysis. Kubo is stated to love fashion himself, hence why his characters are so fresh! I love the different outfits throughout bleach. Prolly my fav anime dr
As a long time fan of bleach who's totally fashion blind(I don't know if that's a real term, but I'm sticking by it), it's really cool seeing someone analyze the characters of bleach based solely on clothing, and come to some of the same conclusions about the characters' personality as people who analyze their actions. It makes me think Kubo may be a huge fashion enthusiast behind the scenes. I dunno how vocal or not he's been about the subject, I mostly just watch the show/read the manga, but it wouldn't surprise me if he said was passionate about fashion, just by the way he can express character in his art purely through clothing choices.
itd be cool to see the author of Nana/Paradise Kiss (Ai Yazawa) fashion be featured here and analyzed tho they are shoujo (as opposed to most shounen that was analyzed already)
actually the way the author designs characters is one of his strongest suits. Not just visually, he has always made sure even minor characters have a personality that makes them visually recognizable and you get this sense that they have a life outside of the story.
I'm glad you pulled from the manga as well, because the color illustrated opening pages have some of the best character outfit artwork. Plus each chapter Kubo creates new, unique, and colorful outfits... every time... that is a hard feat. You also get some good slice of life moments from them as well, because in the story, the characters don't "hang out that much", but in the artwork Kubo conveys what their lives might be like if they weren't always fighting. Great video, I will definitely watch more of your work!
Hey man, I just wanted to say thank you for videos like this. The JoJo videos were already amazing! Your videos are my introduction into fashion lingo, wich really helps me with bringing a atmosphere, style and culture to peoples clothing while playing TTRPGS describing them to my players. While fashion isnt that important for my D&D fantasy setting, it will be for my Cyberpunk game. Thanks to you, everyone in Night City will look fabulous!
This was a spectacular analysis, you pretty much nailed each character personality dead on. The art pages in the manga were always fantastic. My favourites were always the ones where the characters are all wearing the same base outfit, but each with their own style in how it is worn like the white outfit at 9:36. There was another similar one that was a nice contrast of that where they were all in black pants and black shirts, but each had little differences for their personal style. I think I had that image as my desktop wallpaper for about 6 years straight 😆
Ain't no way you haven't read or watched bleach, mate. Not satisfied with describing every character's main tropes fairly well just by the looks you then proceed to classify Byakuya as "elite"... just... spot on. Great video and it makes me appreciate even more Kubo's fashion sense, even more than I already did. If you do get to watch the anime, please update us on your thoughts and beware it kind of has a slow start, do try to push through with it!
As both a Bleach and Jojo fan I'm grateful for your content. I hope you'd check out the designs for a mobile game called Arknights - it's more of a science fiction futuristic look but they have a very good standard to their designs compared to other gacha games.
dude! i came here cuz i love your "bayonetta´s video" and i think to myself: "this dude needs to talk about Bleach fashion" and already you did it!!! I have a special love to bleach, this was my first manga i get and with this i discover my love to the fashion. I can recomend you to see Soul Eater Fashion, the autor Atsushi Ohkubo has a lot of style
This was such a fun watch! Have you thought about doing something similar for popular VTubers? I think you'd have a lot of fun analysing some of their outfits
The assessment is unbelivably accurate. The description of their characters based on the clothes it's pretty much the way they are in the show. It was uncanny. For example, I was surprised when you said 'healing' for Uryu and it seemed in the video that in a way you were too. Almost like you couldn't figure out if the word fit. In the show even though he's not the 'healer' of the party it is a plot point that Uryu's family's wealth comes from the health industry, owning hospitals and his father is a doctor. Byakuya is established nobility so 'elite' is the exact way to describe him. If the show was set in the United States he would be the New England old money Harvard graduate. The descriptions just keep on like that. It was a great video.
Ain't no way you've never watched bleach before making this video Your predictions were so accurate i was in denial😂 Please keep up the good work and instant subscription from me❤
Lol - people really get a kick out of the accurate perceptions. Thanks for the awesome feedback. I do still need to watch the show; I will eventually, lol
Oh I loved this, thank you so much! I really like how your impression of their style really reflects their personalities and even their powers!💜 Like how you said Toshiro's style felt cool and sharp because his unique powers are ice like.
I am legitimately learning more and more about fashion. I have been a little bit more conscious of what to wear especially when going out in certain events. So watching some of these vids of yours gives me an idea on what to do...also I like Games and Anime/Manga. Let's gooooooo!
Perfect! You spoke as if you knew the characters, it was amazing! haha What I've always loved about the art in the Bleach manga is that they're so stylish, they look like they came out of a fashion magazine! Thanks for this video
Its funny you kept mentioning the fur for Renji. His sword is basically baboon+snake based, and in one of its releases its has a skull surrounded by red "fur", his other release give him a fur pelt to 'wear'. He's also literally from the hood, or the afterlife version of it anyways, lol
You pointing out Rukia's more modest presentation is definitely interesting. I wonder if it could be some of Kubo's cultural biases leaking through, consciously or otherwise. Presentation wise, I feel like Orihime is presented like a "Western Woman" with her clothing and body language, while Rukia is more emblematic of the "Japanese Woman" where modesty and meekness might be valued more highly. What I find really interesting about this train of thought though is that 8n the show their personalities are polar opposites of how they tend to be presented in these color panels. Rukia is generally a rather rowdy and playful person while Orihime is quiet and Ditzy. It makes me wonder if there is a conscious reasoning behind the dissonance in the presentation of these characters, especially since I feel like all of the other characters are actually pretty well represented between their style/personalities/presentation. Anyway, this was the first video of yours I've seen and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I'll have to check out more. Thanks for the hardwork!
I love these videos, it shows good fashion can be anywhere, it's not necessarily something stereotypically femenine. Like, don't lie guys, we all wanted to dress like bleach characters in middle school. Seeing someone make these analysis helps a lot to se why we were so attracted to it's style, and in a way, how we can use that knowledge to embody some of its energy. Also really appreciate how you take the time to investigate about the characters even when you are not too familiar with them
This made me realize the reason why I'm sooo interested in fashion even though I dont directly consume media related to it, like shows, runways, magazines etc. Its actually because I love to watch anime and the ones that really stuck to me are Bleach, One Piece, and JOJO. And I've spend a fare amount of time looking up official art made by the mangakas, and of course, those official art always feature the characters dressed in very interesting and mostly fashionable clothes.
Tite Kubo could honestly start his own fashion brand and be insanely successful. Supposedly he was about go into fashion, but once Bleach took off, that was is main focus. I hope he gets the chance to make clothes or help contribute to fashion in the future.
I feel the fashion enlightenment!!! but also the name pronunciation is on point!!!!! fashion, anime, film, music, ETC this is what it means to be cultured.
I have no idea why I clicked this video, not really a fashion guy but this is fascinating, while I don’t think I’ll be that more conscious about what I wear I definitely see the appeal in coordinating an outfit with this sort purpose and sort of silent communication. I do think arranging an outfit with someone who gets it might be fun now so gonna have to try that one of these days
This dude did his research pretty well! Man love ur video! Great effort u put in this video, i actually what them till the end, just show how entertaining the video is.
I've watched Bleach countless times and its one of my favorite anime but, I have to say I really did love your descriptions of the characters and I've never really thought about it from that way myself. Anyway really loved the video keep it up definitely got a subscriber in me.
I am really happy to see that video on my feed X! Really love how you aproached the character's styles and personalities showing through those manga art pieces!

@@ironclad-m3qi thought the less usage of the background helps alot in focusing your eyes in locking to the character in the panels and avoid confusion in fight scenes. Kubo knows how to use it right.
@@luthfeeghazale6206 I personally found it confusing, but that is more about me being easy to confuse than Kubo's art level.
I mean the guy sure has the looks of a one.
yeah... well, Bleach is just a fashion design sketch with a story
@@eizendragon5141 that is the best description of bleach I've ever seen.
@@eizendragon5141 The story is top tier too imo , there's inconsistencies but the foreshadowing , ideals is great af
Glad you see the consistency in the designs as well
Kubo has always been able to tell so much about characters through their designs.
Woohoo - glad I was able to accurately hone in on the styles 🕺🏽👌🏽
I love how renji keeps finding interesting and fresh ways to hide his widows peak in every outfit
I know right - his signature headscarf style
U smart asf😭
Same here, I don't really care about how I look, all I need is to be physically comfortable. But I don't like to wear stuff that's too revealing either. Anyways, enjoy how he explains how people can give off certain vibes by utilizing different methods and how accurate he is about the character personalities.
To be fair, high fashion and the culture surrounding it is an impenetrable clique of weirdos doing weird things for weirdness sake. But like every other fandom, those are the extreme examples and the extremes of most things typically turn most people off. (Talking about those high fashion shows where they literally were wearing other people as "clothing" and other weird stuff)
The way this guy expressed fashion is definitely way more palatable to even someone who may not care much for fashion.
Fashion is inherently about self-expression, so the approach Bleach and many other manga have where you can extrapolate a character's personality and role from their fashion is always a fun way to learn about fashion, it's awesome
Yeah I first started caring about fashion due to bleach to begin with
According to Kubo, Rukia doesen't like form-fitting outfits and likes dresses and i love the thought that went into all these characters style... you can tell the artist thought about what kind of clothing store every character would go to and what they prefer.
Interesting insight - thank you for sharing
This was one of the things that made Bleach memorable, the fashion
Most definitely
Ichigo's fashion sense from these style photos and even the intro's rubbed off because Ive had some clothes that are like what ichigo wears.
"There's Rukia partially hidden and tucked away again..."
Huh. There is a pattern to that that I've never noticed before.
I like discovering little trends like that when reviewing these things
Oh my God, "tucked away," that's it! In Bleach, the character's powers reflect their personalities, but I could never quite hone in on the connection between Rukia and her powers. Elemental powers are a lot harder for me to decipher than the other types, but you nailed it!
I'm so glad that perception of her was somewhat accurate 🙏🏽
“Renji is the rapper of the boy group” I love it 😂
He was giving STRONG kpop rapper vibes
Very happy that you analysed the fashion inside Bleach, there's always been a big feeling from me that, if Kubo wouldn't have succeeded as a mangaka, he could've become a fashion designer 100%
I think he could definitely pull it off
Hilariously, it was the opposite. He wanted to be a fashion designer but went into manga instead. Sorry for the late reply just found this channel.
@@uverdog I'd buy his brand immediately
Nice video. I’ve always summed up the style in this way
Ichigo- punk, tight clothing, grungy
Uryu- clean, sleek and fashionable but simple
Renji- black men/boy street fashion in the 2000s
Chad-he dresses like a adult man but often has no sleeves or tight long tops to show off his arms
Orihime- cute, quirky, long skirts
Rukia- long summer dresses, that’s what I remember her wearing mostly in the show/anime, however in the illustration spreads she does have tomboy energy with her clothes
Byakuya- classy, clean, rich
I completely agree with these conclusions
I completely agree with you:
Byakuya's style is akin to "old money," raised in a very traditional sense, looks really formal and put-together in a more traditional fashion sense.
@@orb9475 1000% agree. I've been inspired by those pants
Renji and Ichigo SLAYED in this video 📸
They 100% did 💯
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of deep dives on Bleach fashion. I appreciate your attention to detail on the little aspects of each outfit that define the characters within the series. You brought up so many point I never noticed before as fan of almost a decade. Thank you for your perspective in this series!
Glad you saw the value in the video - appreciate the feedback 😄
Justice for our fashion King Mayuri he might be a busy mad scientist but he changes his outfit in every single arc and deserves a mention
I've had more and more people request content around how to style/where to buy. Would love to branch into that type of content as well 🙌🏽
@@XDF I would definitely like it, thanks for introducing so many people to fashion🙏
I found myself wanting to be friends with Renji as I was reviewing the art - he seems like a really cool guy
He was always described as a dog. He did grow up in the ghetto. Granted so did Rukia but she was adopted
He did live in thuggish environment tho. & some of his characteristics showed that as well, esp in early arc.
Kubo always had a passion for fashion design, so to see him cross it over into character design and fun one off prints was something I always appreciated. Hes definitely a standout from other Manga artists. To see someone who breathes fashion like yourself appreciate his work was a pleasure to listen to.
I feel in another life, Tite Kubo would have been a great clothes designer ! Color and styles are pretty great !!
bleach is just kubo's fashion book disguised as a manga. lol
I completely agree with both points! I got so much y2k fashion nostalgia in going through some of these images
Kubo Sensei almost never uses Cel shading in the manga-art and in the manga itself for fashion, he draws all the patterns by hand, which I feel is one of the things that gives the edge to his art
Even in the pictures you put, the only one I have suspicions about is Orihime's skirt in the picture when the gang is leaning on the pillars, but I'm not absolutely sure- You can see that the pattern doesn't really change with the folds in the fabric and right next to it you can see in Yasutora's pants the less equal lines that were drawn by hand, as well as in the pattern in the shirt on Uryuu's waist and in Ichigo's belt, he could have used a cel but he didn't and he draws the patterns by hand And it increases the quality and beauty in my opinion a lot!
And if you could give a link or tell me the site where you found the works and pictures I would be very happy and appreciate it, I'm interested if I know the site and how deep in terms of knowledge it is
Bleach has one of the best fashion and character designs in all of anime
I can agree with that
really gives me appreciation to the amount of work and brainstorming a manga author has to do. not only do you have to think about the story progression but even the outfits of the characters as well. seems not important, but it sure does play a crucial role in characterizing and bringing out the personalities of each character.
I never noticed that Toshiro has that Sophisticated but sharp style which really highlights his personality workaholic smart confident with a bit of a temper
Sounds about right to me 👍🏽
This is literally my favourite anime and all of this fashion stuff has been flying over my head until literally now. What the hell thanks for the analysis! And so much of it is so spot on with the characterisations of the cast! The fur theme especially for Renji considering his baboon-themed powers.
So glad that you enjoyed the video
Thank you kindly
Your channel is a breath of fresh air! I'm so happy to see thoughtful fashion analysis for such a variety of animated characters. As a character designer I'm just tickled by all this.
For a show suggestion, I recommend RWBY (first 3 seasons though, when the original creator still was around). This show's director was known for being quite savvy in following trends, especially J-rock fashion. The outfits he designed for the main four protagonists are just top notch character design imo
Thanks for appreciating the content
In an interview, Kubo was asked what else he would want to do as a career choice if he had not gone with being a manga writer. He said that he would go into fashion design. It explains why so many characters and designs have drip
Yes - I found that in my research. Makes sense why his work is so strong
That was good 👏🏻
Glad my instincts were accurate
You're doing the fashion art covers 😭 yessss
Yeeesss 🕺🏽
LOVE the focus of this one, showcasing how the variety of looks really gives insight into the characters. You do such a good job of pointing out how there is so much uniformity in outfits in Bleach, even in the casual wear, but there's so much subtle personality and uniqueness in that very uniformity. Great video, X!
Really appreciate the thoughtful comment - thanks for watching 🙏🏽🕺🏽
If you are looking into other manga series, I suggest taking a look into Jujutsu Kaisen which is a popular ongoing series even right now (but if you do, please take a look into manga-only characters (as of now) like Hakari and Kirara, their styles are IT!)
Thank you! :)
Thanks for the very thoughtful feedback 🙌🏽
As someone that isn't that into fashion I really enjoy your breakdowns. You also did a really good job of actually assessing the characters.
i love how you can describe some of the characters main personality without watching the show and just by their fashion sense.
I'm glad you enjoyed watching
Thanks for the awesome feedback
Found your videos recently, I was looking for fashionable characters to mimic and the algorithm gifted me your channel ! I just got into fashion for the first time in an attempt to dress better. So it is very helpful that you breakdown the outfits and why they work and what mood/image they create ,very helpful !
I'm glad you're finding value in the content 😌
I've been enjoying these anime series fashion analyses you've been doing. Outfits are super important (and the most fun aspect for me) to me as a character designer, with Bleach as one of my inspirations...hearing someone give well-deserved love to Kubo's work feels great haha
Side note, I like your half-tucked in shirt look.
I would've loved to see what you thought of their "bankais" and how it transforms a lot of the characters while still speaking to their personalities. Especially Rukia and her final one
I'm not gonna lie. I used the Bleach printed art as fashion inspo in high school! It actually worked people complimented my style lol
I was all for gushing over these character designs. Such a fun video!

Your channel is quickly becoming a fave. Love Bleach and I'm happy to see someone talking about it and focusing on the fashion aspect. It's definitely something that is unique and stands out from the series.
Awesome to hear - I'm enjoying highlighting these things so far 👌🏽
Girl you hit it so acccurately 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ im in love with the splash art like, Tite Kubo really said “we gon do a fashion runwayyyyy” with the splash art and official art asked by shonen jump. I hope you have a great time watching the anime!
this is something i've never thought about when watching anime before, but now that you've explained it so well, i can't unsee it! it just makes me happy to see yet another layer of deep personalization to kubo's characters. it's something so simple that many people tend to miss it, but clearly, it speaks volumes. great video!!
With how many beautiful color spreads Kubo has drawn I feel like you could be talking about Bleach fashion forever
He's back! A wise man once said "X gon' give it to ya" and its never been more true!
This comment is gold! 🥇
Of all things to feel nostalgic for, I'd never expect to feel it for 00s Manga fashion. Great video!
So glad you could feel the good vibes. 🙌🏽✨️
Fur is a common theme with Renji's outfits, especial around the shoulders because his bankai (ultimate power up) has fur, often around his shoulders as well - since his ability is the "great baboon king" which again accentuates his "wild" nature! really spot on character design from kubo
ohmygod YOU ARE MY PEOPLE AAAAAA
Wow, thank you! Such great feedback - glad I'm finding more folks at this intersection of fashion.
This is some pretty unique content that i haven't come across before. I'm not one to care much at all for fashion but i ended up watching the whole video hearing you break down their outfits so hats off to you.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to watch
Again another surprising fashion review from a series I didnt expect, Great review once again
Glad you like them!
This is such a good video! I have so much respect for Kubo and his way of portraying his characters. So fashionable
Yes indeed
itd be cool to see the author of Nana/Paradise Kiss (Ai Yazawa) fashion be featured here and analyzed tho they are shoujo (as opposed to most shounen that was analyzed already)
actually the way the author designs characters is one of his strongest suits.
Wow this was amazing ! Ichigo really has that secretly good bad boy vibe. Also really interesting that Rukia usually is on a corner or kind of hiding.
Ichigo is definitely a good bad boy 😎
Hey man, I just wanted to say thank you for videos like this. The JoJo videos were already amazing! Your videos are my introduction into fashion lingo, wich really helps me with bringing a atmosphere, style and culture to peoples clothing while playing TTRPGS describing them to my players. While fashion isnt that important for my D&D fantasy setting, it will be for my Cyberpunk game. Thanks to you, everyone in Night City will look fabulous!
Love this comment and feedback - thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙌🏽
So awesome to hear - thanks for the great feedback
@@XDF absolutely :)
Tite Kubo is the GOAT. He needs a damn fashion line or something.
I completely agree
As both a Bleach and Jojo fan I'm grateful for your content. I hope you'd check out the designs for a mobile game called Arknights - it's more of a science fiction futuristic look but they have a very good standard to their designs compared to other gacha games.

Im super happy that I found your channel. I never really had much interest in fashion before but your videos have changed that. Much love
I am obsessed with this video, honestly my favorite bleach video to watch over and over again.
My man Chad finally gets recognition
Yeesss
Woohoo - so glad my instincts were onto something
Dude, YOU look like a Bleach character, and I definitely mean that as a compliment!
Bleach really is the Drip King of the Big Three in the shounen anime community. Tite Kubo's character design is just...10/10.
Very strong designs indeed
Ain't no way you've never watched bleach before making this video
Your predictions were so accurate i was in denial😂
Please keep up the good work and instant subscription from me❤
Lol - people really get a kick out of the accurate perceptions. Thanks for the awesome feedback. I do still need to watch the show; I will eventually, lol
Oh I loved this, thank you so much! I really like how your impression of their style really reflects their personalities and even their powers!💜
Like how you said Toshiro's style felt cool and sharp because his unique powers are ice like.
I am legitimately learning more and more about fashion. I have been a little bit more conscious of what to wear especially when going out in certain events. So watching some of these vids of yours gives me an idea on what to do...also I like Games and Anime/Manga. Let's gooooooo!
Yeesss - I love to hear it.
Perfect!
You spoke as if you knew the characters, it was amazing! haha
What I've always loved about the art in the Bleach manga is that they're so stylish, they look like they came out of a fashion magazine!
Wow, amazing how that comes across in the illustrations 😅
I definitely agree
Honestly Bleach is the shounen with the coolest outfits and i think it even better then mha
I'm aligned with that 💯
@@XDF Like the fits feel more like what these characters would actually shop for and wear - it's amazing
Never got into bleach much, your analysis is always nice tho. Engagement for the engagement gods.
Very much appreciated 🙏🏽🙌🏽
I feel the fashion enlightenment!!! but also the name pronunciation is on point!!!!! fashion, anime, film, music, ETC this is what it means to be cultured.
Bless! Thanks a lot dude
Thanks for giving the video a shot 🙌🏽
This dude did his research pretty well! Man love ur video! Great effort u put in this video, i actually what them till the end, just show how entertaining the video is.

I've watched Bleach countless times and its one of my favorite anime but, I have to say I really did love your descriptions of the characters and I've never really thought about it from that way myself.
