I’m going buy one in future for van life
Brad, thanks for taking time out for the American people...people need to know the truths, I'm sold,,, will be getting one.
Wow very versatile
Hello Guys, ...Great review! Ours will be in on Tuesday. Still looking for decent Solar Panels to go with. High on the list are SunPower 100 Watts Gen II.
I bought a Kodiak and am impressed with the unit itself, technically it seems quite solid.
Where they have utterly failed with me is support. I live in Canada so it does make it a bit more difficult for them, for shipping and warranty work, however many companies have overcome the USA and Canadian border issues which they severely struggle with.
1. One of the items I purchased was the 12 volt car adapter which I tested when the unit arrived and it worked. I take it camping with us, plug it in and no blue light on the side. Push down on the cable/connector in the cigarette lighter, hear a click and the blue charge light comes on. I took the adapter apart and it turns out they had surface soldered one of the cables to a chrome arm inside the connector. The solder was the only thing providing structural support/integrity for that cable and it failed miserably. They had not even gone to the minimum of where they wrapped the copper wire around the conductor inside the cable (for strength) and soldered it.
2. I phoned their help line, they were apologetic and shipped me a replacement cable. It arrived with custom fee's owing and it turned out not to be a cable, rather they had shipped me a 4 in 1 converter box.
3. Phone them again, they were apologetic and shipped me a replacement cable. Replacement cable does not work. Plug in old mostly non working cable, push down on wire so it makes contact with the conductors in the adapter, hear click, see light come on. Put new cable in, still does not work.
4. I phone their help line, they are apologetic and ship me a replacement cable again. It arrives with duty owing and does not work.
5. To say I am irritated with them by now is a bit of an understatement. I am thinking that cables for an outdoor product should by design be extremely rugged and durable, not something that fails in shipment by UPS.
6. I was going to phone their help line again, however a shipment that I and they did not know about arrived. It was approximately 3 weeks old and was likely the original replacement cable.
7. I am not sure if any of these cables work at the moment as my Kodiak died while I was charging an Anker battery at a campground. The only thing that seems to work on the unit is if I plug a power source into the side the blue charge light comes on.
8. The Kodiak died August 15, 2018, I phoned them from the campground and started the return process for work under warranty. When we arrived back home I sent all the confirming information to them by email, return address etc around August 17, 2018.
9. It is now September 17, 2018 and they are still very apologetic but the BROKEN unit is still sitting at home waiting for them. Much blaming the Canadian government for having strict rules in place for shipping charged and dangerous lithium ion batteries across the border, much blaming their shipping and receiving unit which is so bad they are restructuring it.
10. It is so irritating that it has become a comedy of errors in it's own right. Every time they say they are going to ship me something so I can return it, I have to phone them at least weekly and prompt them. I was sent a set a box with foam inserts to return the unit, you would think they would include the UPS return labels in the box. No such luck, the labels had to be sent separately and I had to prompt them for those.
11. The UPS labels arrive with instructions on how to fill them in and where to place them on the box. I do so and phone their support line to make sure everything is in place for the return. The normal support fellow is off for the week and no one else knows anything about the labels? He will be back in a week though. I get an email from some one inside Inergy saying that yes everything is fine and we will schedule a pick up. This does not happen.
12. I phone back, the regular guy is back and he tells me that they are going to use a "new" to them shipping agent called DHL. DHL will send them labels which they will fill out and send to me. I wait, finally phone them back and well you know DHL sent us the wrong labels, it is not our fault. When we get the right labels we will send them to you by the slowest and cheapest method possible. But for sure they will be their in a week.
13. It has only been 2 or 3 business days since my last call to them, however I have not received an email with a tracking number or any indication that the labels have shipped and the end of the weeks seems like it has already slipped.
I like the Inergy Kodiak, it seems like a nice unit, however with all the issues I have had with the "Company" I regret buying it.
For what it is worth I could have bought a brand new Honda EU 2000 along with a multi fuel kit for it, which would let me run it off of gas, propane or natural gas.
I wish it was financially within our reach. I heavily use a CPAP and have for many years. One night the plug fell out and our dog woke me, with great difficulty on her part, or I may have suffocated. When we struggle with meeting needs of even hundreds of dollars, this is a wish. It's nice to know it's available, and you did a great job of representing the product!
I have a CPAP machine. What i did is i bought a small one that is sold in the cpap website. You can also use to charge phones. and I think you can use it for 2 nights. It was less than $300.
I'm buying one this week. Thankyou for shearing. Saludos from Puerto Rico.
We really do love ours!
Can this power a 650 Watt hair dryer?
I want one!! Why has it taken so long for American ingenuity to come up with this?? I'm ready to go solar but can't find anyone to do the job.
Wow, I'm impressed. Thanks for sharing. I desperately need this.
Thanks Brad, looking into it.
Brad, we just got one of these and you would be surprised how little light it really takes to charge it. We plugged it into the solar panels on a completely overcast day and still got it to 75% full from fully drained. Enjoy it!
Thank you for the info!
Thanks for sharing! Looks like an amazing system!! I like how it's not a motor running loudly and stinky! hee hee Great for so many uses!!
Thanks for the review Brad! I can't afford it but it would be great. It's so great to finally hearing you sound a bit better. I hope you're feeling better too, along with all your family.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and thoughts on the Kodiak solar generator !! 😁👍
Thank you for sharing this wonderful product with us! I love the idea of having something so simple that even I could use without all hassle free power 👍👍👍👍👍
I saw on the website that it actually outputs Pure Sine Wave instead of Modified Sine...this is a really good thing!
Thanks Brad!
I love this .I want it I want to be energy efficient
keep us apprised I am really looking serious into doing the same thing thank you
I got one of these recently. I can tell you, everything that Brad has said about this is true. This is AWESOME. It literally is plug and go. Easy as can be. I got this because I take care of my elderly mother. When the power goes out, which it has been doing with more frequency, I wanted something I can plug in her electric blanket and keep her warm. And/or keep some lights on and charge phones, kindles, etc. This will do all of those and at the same time! I also highly recommend the service of this company. WOW, they are great, friendly and will bend over backwards for you. (Not that I needed service, everything worked great out of the box. But I wanted to know about their different cables, panels, etc.) Everything about this company, from the equipment to the people, are awesome. If you can afford it, it is highly recommended by me.
Wow that sounds nifty, thanks for sharing! Sorry you have been so sick.
This is something I was very interested in! Looking forward to seeing how it works for you.
Thank you for sharin' Brad! This is N E A T and will be showing my husband on his next day off of work. :)
For 2k I can use my propane Generator with 3 20lb tanks and table top ice machine and min kegs and be boxed out of my mind with plenty of money left over.
Everything has a place and time...What I like: Lithium batteries What I don't: Cost. Honestly I think that with minimal research and the same amount of money you could do at least as well with a bit of effort. The one thing I have to say here folks is that this is the "Bug out bang for the buck". It is highly portable. Like Brad said....grab and go! You just can't do that with a regular solar system. All in all...Great review and you lucky dog for getting to keep the product!!!!! Kuddos to Inergy for being generous! Looking forward to a COMPREHENSIVE review with a list of what you have done with it! Question....Will it power the milker if the power is out??? How much will it run at one time? Ex: A fan for the wood heater, the fridge, a medical appliance (the most important one), Those little lights, a TV for Netflix and the computer for Vlogging...All this assuming everyone was huddled in the largest room for warmth. Last question: How many panels did you get and how long does it take to charge to full power?
PS: Look for an email with a link to some really affordable solar panels which will allow you to add more flexibility to your new system!
I just watched this vid! Fantatic! Is inergy going to be offering more deals/discount thru your channel?
Can you hook up multiple batteries, then from the inergy to your tiny home/rv and still be able to balance battery consumption from all the batteries you’ve hooked up?
WOW! This is a game changer!!😃😎 Boy I wish I had the money but I only have enough money to get started in the thrive right now!! 😭 oh well maybe I'll catch it next time!! Thanks for the info though! I think I will turn it in to save up and get that someday!! I've been wanting to get into solar but it was so confusing and then of course the money!! God bless!!
Nice looking system!
Good all-in-one starter point for the people who have the budget to start at that point.
The harbor freight units are more training wheels than anything else, to get a feel for what solar is without having to put down lot's of money first. Teaches the basics on components like panels, charger/inverter, batteries and wiring. The cheepo kits have the advantage you can get started with low cost and update to more robust/powerful units as funds become available.
I started with a Coleman kit for less than $100. Over several years I slowly built up to quality panels, solar charge controller, inverter/charger and monitoring; next I'll ditch the old deep cycle batteries for AGM which are easier to maintain. When the time comes, I would recommend looking at AltE Store or Arizona Wind and Sun. Both sites have helpful info and videos; AltE videos can be kinda goofy but are still helpful.
Given your location, have you looked at getting, or converting to, a propane powered generator to keep the farm running during an extended outage? The farm will need more juice than the Kodiak to keep necessary farm systems going!
For those thinking about what size Solar, or even generator, you would need, try doing an energy audit of all the electricity and gas you use in a day; will probably surprise you how much is used! From that, you can decide what things are most critical to your family and then look for something that will match that need. Ex: excluding heat/AC, my house was eating almost 2KW/hr; OUCH! We switched to LED lighting, recycled some old appliances and changed some usage habits and now we easily use about 500-800W/hr which helps with the overall power bill!
Very interesting! I have always been a little bit intimidated by the mysteries of solar energy, but this seems very doable, even for me! Thank you :-)
That is a good price for the Kodiak, plus the goodies that come with it. I bought one last summer because our electricity kept going out, it is a great little generator. Since I'm a girl person I appreciate how small and light weight it is. Inergy also has excellent customer service. When it's warmer (a few months down the road) can you show how to hook up the solar panels to it. Maybe Inergy will let you have an other coupon code if you do a dummy's guide to hooking up solar and other methods to charge and use the Kodiak.
Brother can you please advise me I live in a country where there is no electricity for 8 hours a day this unit would be totally useless for me I think
? I don't understand what you are asking?
That is an awesome tool! What a lifesaver! Thank you so much for sharing! God Bless you and your family!
Can you tell me how long it would power an EverFlo Oxygen Concentrator? Power Consumption 350 Watts Average. Thanks.
I'm pretty unknowledgeable about power and emts. I know if we get an emp strike the only vehicles that may work are the antique ones made before computers. My question about the portable solar generators is do you have to store it in a Farraday cage even when it's not plugged in to protect it?
If you click on 'show more' under the video, Brad has added that you get a free EMP bag. I am assuming ( assuming mind you) that the EMP bag is for your power generator.
If you happen to have it out of the bag, but not turned on, does an emp render it no good? I understand you could use it for other power outages. We used a generator a week after hurricane Opal. But like I said, I am not a power expert and just wonder if you have to put some away under cages so they would work? Also, will there be energy surges after an emp that could ruin them too. It looks very nice. Do the solar panels have to be in a cage too? I've tried to learn by books, but still have those questions.
In NW WI powering a furnace blower and having a large full LP tank might save your life. If you live in the country, water treatment and septic tank pumps would be great. Food is a cinch compared to heat and bathroom.
Do you think this could run a pellet stove? It doesn't seem to take a lot of power to run the blower, but the pellet stove doesn't work without electricity. What do you think??
Thank you for the information, this sounds like something I can use.
You never said 1 time how much it is with out the discount , what about the worinty ? He'll of nice though for sure!!
Plug and play, that's my kind of device. Maybe one day my wallet will catch up with my longing for something like this. It'd be pretty useful to around, though.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!! Some day...
Hi Brad: I just wanted you to know that I just ordered a Kodiak system. I had to order by phone, but Sisto said he would credit your account.
VERY cool! Thanks!
This is a very cool product. Quick question, do you get to keep the unit you are reviewing?
Actually, I did not know at first, but just got an email from Inergy saying I could keep it, AWESOME!!! Soooo, I did put a note of disclosure in the video description to be all compliant and stuff :)
I don't understand the RV plug. No way is it going to power an RV for very long and it would never power an RV AC.
Brad, I clicked on your link to Inergy and went to purchase a kit. The coupon code worked for the 20% off, however I do not get the bag or the car charger. How do you get those items included?
Inergy is very proud of this thing for $1800. Get real.
Thanks for the info great great stuff thanks for sharing
Great video and i have seen Canadian prepper he has done a review on that one and i would like to have one myself but it is to expensive for me.When i checked up the price in my currency it would cost me 16 241,63 kr and that it is way to much for my budget.
I do not recommend this product at all. I had a bad experience with my kodiak Inergy which I bought 10 months ago. In addition to this, my review that I posted in the Kodiak Inergy website was deleted, just has your own conclusions from that.
It sounds good but the unit is too costly for me. I am sure it is worth it to many.
Yes, a monthly payment option would be awesome!! It looks great, but pretty costly for most.
I wish I had the money. So nice that now Grace will always have power for her medical equipment. I would love to take the power to rob me away from the power company!
Hey Brad love your videos but dude your voice sounds horrible you taking care of your self. Keep making videos always watching.
I saw this one Brad, and it seems excellent and very nicely priced for what it can do compared to larger power cubes like the Wagan 1500 or the Goal Zero 3000. Please keep us updated!!!
Thank you!!!
Great idea, esp in your remote location, having any source of backup power is a good thing, hope you get over your cold.
Do your homework on this and other devices before you lay down your hard earned cash. Learn about watts, watt hours, etc to determine real world use vs real world recharging times. All of these boxes have their pros/cons like many things.
I know they gifted this to you guys, in lieu of a review. I'd be more inclined to consider this if you guy's had actually purchased it.
is it really a "review" if you haven't USED it yet? isn't that REALLY just a commercial?
No, I stated in the video I had been using it- Just stinks that on the day of the video shoot, there's no sun. Go figure.
Thanks for the unpacking review, Brad . I'd love one, but at 2,500 ( less 20%) it's just out of my reach.
my link said 1875 less 20% . Still too high for me, but would really love one for my ccap.
I think you may have searched on the net and clicked the wrong website. Someone is adding some money to that. If you use the link Brad provided, it is only $1875 then, you get 20% off that.
How much did that system cost you to make it powerful enough to run the Fridge & the Freezers (treating them as the highest #1 priority) not to mention the lights, TV, cooker etc,. Brad? Sorry - your gear, mixing desk, video this & that's at the bottom of the heap! I hope you're feeling better, (certainly better than you sound anyway) & that the rest of the family are getting better too. Hope Ruthie didn't get the same dose you've had. Even though Crista said she was next worse to you, she's too little to handle the kind of illness you're fighting off. His Bless Sharon xx I meant to ask will it run your Solar Powered Attic Fan that the Children bought you when you were in Ohio, or does that run separately from the mains box you have there?
a freebie for you? lucky
1800 bucks holy cow and yeppy skippy thats alot of mula :(
lol
