I got the bounce ironed out by simply shifting my CG back from the first strap like you did. Let me say you are probably one of the best reviewers out there. You go over throughly the CG’s you have figured out and that helps the rest of us tremendously. Your very honest with what you are encountering in your flights which helps the rest of us cut down on surprises. Thank you and keep up the excellent work, your reviews have guided my last three plane purchases and your videos have helped me to iron out minor issues. Thank you for your time to make the videos and helping those of us who are working to become better pilots.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback! Glad you got the bouncing sorted. The model lands very nicely, but can get pretty heavy on the elevator in the flare of the cg is too far forward.
Hi Sherman. "Bounce"? Yikes! I have not flown my new Viper 90mm yet, (super nervous to try) and I was unaware this was a problem with this model. My Cirrus is like that - and it makes me crazy! Are you actually flying slightly tail-heavy then? I appreciate the heads-up, this kind of info is so helpful. Thank you! Dale
Awesome review and flight Chris! A very nice flying jet for sure. Thanks!
Thanks man!
Such a beautiful model and of course great walk through and flying my friend!
Thanks man!
Excellent video Chris! Good times, Super Sick landing with reverse!
The 70mm version is a great jet, a perfect all-around performer & it gets good flight times. I own a few foamies, of course I prefer the look of my wood/fiber glass models, but I for one actually like the bare foam over white paint.
Thank you for this vid Chris. Your vids are always to the point and informative. I just pulled the trigger on this plane today.
Thank you!
@@Thercgeek You're welcome. Got mine Friday, she's all put together, balances great 15mm back from the plastic. I set the throws from this vid so the maiden tomorrow is on you. Ha! If you don't mind me asking, any coupling issues in knife edge? Just wanna know if I should mix in any aileron or elevator to the rudder. Cheers!
Awesome Chris !
Great setup & flight. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
First impressions are strong impressions: You are very professional, organized, knowledgeable, put primarily as an instructor and teacher, you have all the qualities of a great presenter and none of the annoying and scatterbrained traits that a few of the other RUclips artists have. Did I mention you are a great pilot. You don't overtalk the flight which is distracting from listening to the beautiful sound of this great jet. Thanks so much for just that big Plus! Such a relief to listen to your explanations and tips. This is my next plane. Just bought the Habu SS and I am ready. Can I order through your link so you get some type of benefit from my order? Thanks and thanks and thanks!
Thank you so much! Yes, ordering through the link does help me out, thanks for asking!
Very slick review 👍
Thanks!
Nice flying Chris 👍 Sounds good in the air, and the reverse turbine handy for braking at end of runway😁
Thanks!
Awesome, thank you
What a nice review Chris 🥰🤩🤙🏻 awesome woosh from that 90mm EDF i just can’t wait to receive mine (mid September in France 🤞🏻)
Thanks! I’m sure you’ll find it was worth the wait. 😊
@@Thercgeek oh yeah I hope! And I hope it’ll be even better than Freewing AvantiS 80mm HP 🙏🏻
Espectacular ✈
Great job!
Thanks!
I really like the sound and performance of the larger EDFs. If I ever go ducted it's got to be big.
This one really does sound good!
Love it
Hello !!! C vraiment de très belles vidéos à chaque fois !!!Et très bien expliquées .... A plus Steph de France. .
Thank you so much!
I love the flight characteristics of mine, have you noticed it wanting to bounce on you when you land?
I use a 6s 9000 in my vipor and it’s flies great
Nice!!
Could you also tell me why you do your CG checks with the plane upright? I always thought a low winged plane should be upside down on checking CG? Thanks
Whether right side up or upside down, it doesn’t matter when checking the cg. Typically it’s just easier to check a low wing airplane upside down because it hangs a little easier. But, it’s not a requirement. I switch back and forth depending on the airplane and what’s easier.
Does the BNF version allow forward programming to change AS3X and SAFE gains as you would with say an AR631 that you'd use with the PNP version? Thanks
You can get into the forward programming, but unfortunately the bnf receivers are locked. So can’t adjust gains out of the box. The receiver can be unlocked, but I think it requires connecting to a computer to do that.
Glad to report Horizon did the right thing and replaced the Viper 90mm. I sent the plane back and I guess they saw the problem. I think it was some of the wood on the esc tray was not punch out completely and was sucked into the fan. I have been a customer of Horizon for many years and have always known them to stand behind there products. They are a great company. I tested the plane on the ground and ran a few batteries through it. Looking forward to the maiden. ✈️✈️✈️
I’m glad to hear they took care of it for you.
great review. I just bought the ARF version of this plane , what is the best Esc,motor and edf unit upgrade for this jet ? for more speed and acceleration ? on 6s.
Honestly, my favorite 90mm setup is the jetfan90 on 8s. That’s what I had in my f4 and it was perfect for that jet and would be amazing in the viper.
Hi Chris! thanx for the video. Just got mine and I wander for how long you could fly the Viper with the 7000mah battery? I think your fly demo was edited so I am not sure if was only 4 minutes.
4+ minutes is pretty easy with the viper and 7000mah pack. It’s the perfect pack for the airplane imo.
Hey man I’m really stuck 🤣 do I need a 10ch spektrum radio to have ch7 for safe mode , ch8 for reverse thrust , & 9/10ch for pan&tilt kit like the motionsic bag. Thanks!😁😁
I’m not entirely certain. What radio do you have at the moment?
Hi Chris - If one is experienced at flying props (low wing, aerobatic) would this be an ok first EDF? Or is it too much?
Well that's timely, I was just looking at this plane. How would you compare it to the Freewing Avanti? Is it different enough to justify having both? I take the Freewing Avanti pretty much every weekend. I have a few 105mm-120mm EDFs, but those don't really make for a low-effort relaxing outing. I wouldn't mind having another "everyday" type EDF.
Honestly, I’ve never flown the avanti, so I can’t say definitively how different it is. That said, as an everyday edf this definitely fits the bill. It is bigger than the avanti which is nice and being able to fly the large packs gives some nice flight times.
Nice
I forgot to mention very nice pilot skill. It's not easy keeping all those extra channel/functions sorted out in your head.
Thank you!
Nice... the inlet lip is rounded all the way in... unlike the smaller one!
Yeah, it’s actually molded plastic on this one.
Hello sir, I scrolled the wheel on my NX10 but it will not take me to that screen to set up for the thrust reverse. Do I have to update the firmware of the Tx to 3.06 firmware? Thank you!
Updating the radio is definitely the first step of there’s an update available.
Mine took off and lost thrust. After about 35 40 seconds stalled and crashed. Fuselage was destroyed. Turns out the EDF exploded all the blades were gone right down the the route. Sent it back to horizon hoping they make good on the plane. This was the maiden.
Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that! I’m sure they’ll take care of this for you.
Does the 7000mAh pack give you solid 5min or more flight time? Thx👍 debating between 5000 or 7000 packs
Yeah, 5minutes of mixed flying is pretty easy to get with the 7000 pack.
Chris are you using any of the other telemetry features ?
Honestly, I don’t really leverage the telemetry all that much.
Have you tried a 5000 pack in this jet? If so was the performance better than the 7000?
I only ever flew the 7000. What you’ll get is a little more vertical performance, but top end level speed will be faster with the 7000.
10:49 was the best part.
Could you tell me what the length of the plane is without the nose cone ?
Well, I had to let this one go when we moved, so don’t have it at anymore. From memory, I think the nose is about 6-8inches long.
Chris, where do you get the tools/devices to measure your control surface movements?
Unfortunately, it’s a discontinued great planes tool. I’m trying to source something similar to be able to offer in the future. Haven’t had much luck this far. 😕
Thanks for your fast reply. Your videos are excellent and very helpful. Thanks. @@Thercgeek
Donald L, Motion RC has a benchcraft deflection meter that's very similar. They came back in stock about 2 weeks ago. Not sure they are still in stock.
Already bought it, thanks!
Hi Chris, I have some e-flight Jets with Spectrum ESC and Spektrum iX20 radio. Trust reverse works great at all. BUT for now I want the 90mm EDF VIPER fly with another radio make (CORE from Powerboat-Systems). DO YOU KNOW if it is possible to use the trust reverse feature also with another radio like Spektrum??? BTW: Maybe you remember me, I am Thomas from Germany and I order all my afterburners at you 🤣
I believe taking advantage of the reverse thrust within the esc requires having a Spektrum radio.
@@Thercgeek That's what SPECTRUM RC also says 😥
What's your opinion on Hobby King aircraft?
You know, from what I’ve been seeing recently, they’re a pretty good value. Seems they’ve got a few things in the works right now, so I’m eager to see what they come up with.
What was the % of remaining battery after 4minutes on a 7000mah?
I’m not sure the percentage, but voltage was around 3.8 v/cell.
What are you using to measure your throws??
It’s called an accuthrow meter and was made by great planes. Unfortunately, it’s no longer made. I’ve been trying to source getting them made so that I could offer them, but no luck so far. 😕
Hello again Chris. I have been frequently referring to your videos in an effort to get smarter with my RC planes. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction to find the factory as3x gyro settings that come in the various bnf Efite planes? I always update the receivers to "Open-Stock" because I do not like some of the proprietary mixes, SAFE select settings etc. I do like the actual gyro gains that come in most HH planes. Once the receiver is "Open-Stock" I am only guessing at the gain range HH used for the various planes, and I am having a tough time finding the sweet spot on the gains. As you know, these bnf receivers are initially locked, and you cannot see the actual gain settings in Forward Programming. If you happen to know where I could find these numbers, I would be very grateful! Thank you. Dale
Instead of going to the fwd programming, if you scroll over to the right from the main screen, I believe that it shows you the gains that are programmed. That’s what I did when I reconfigured the eflite f16 with flaperons and tailerons.
Otherwise, I’m not aware of a database anywhere that shows the gain values at all.
@@Thercgeek Thank you so much for the reply. Like an idiot, I did not check the factory gyro settings before I upgraded the receiver. I don't suppose you have any idea where HH set the AS3X gyro gains? Love your videos! Thank you again.
Did you fly this on high or low rates?
I flew it with the rates I noted in the video 😉 starts from about 3:58
Hey RCGeek, where are you flying now-a-days?
I’ve been flying at the Wingmasters field mostly of late. The Miramar field has been closed permanently. 😢
Plastic wing tips would've ben nice! otherwise this is an awesome EDF Jet
Yeah, would be nice, but they hold up well still as they are.
Hello where did you buy your gauge measurement? Ty
It’s unfortunately a discontinued project. I have my own design in the works that I hope to be releasing this month.
@@Thercgeek Were you able to get your own sourced? If so, where can I get one? Thanks.
Yep, I designed my own. 😊 www.thercgeek.com/product/Control-Surface-Deflection-Meter
👍👍👍
My friend, you've been involved in EPO much longer than I have, so I'm surprised you don't know this. Expanded Poly Olefin plastics exude plasticizers over their half lives ( about 10 years). These vaporous solvents will cause polymer enamel AND water soluble white paints to yellow out HORRIBLY at at frightening rates. Use a thinned (oil base) UV filtered polyurethane, or UV stable acrylic polymer art sealant ( test an area that isn't structural or cosmetic for compatible traits), and just mask and coat your EPP. Painted areas? Mask, or cover. You' re better off letting the foam discolor a little unless the extra weight and shorter flights don't matter. Me? I armor these $5.00 foamboard EDFs to the teeth. So, five dollars in materials. ( Motors, ESCs, Rx, servos, etc. salvageable). I digress. Applying two coats of clear polyurethane varnish to foamboard results in over a 325% increase in rigidity at a cost of 14 milligrams per 100 cm squared. Pre-coated foamboard and new practices? (FliteTest!) And who knows what we can come up with!
Dig what you're doinn'
Mike.
Sounds and looks like the $800,000 version!
👊👊😊
Horizon is definitely now competing with Motion for who makes the best edfs.
Fms vs freewing it's been like that for years lol yea viper jets is hands off thr best so far
I see You're at Flying.. At a school breaking Lol.
Haha, what? 😆
Dorsal? Do you mean vertical stabiliser? It's an aircraft not a dolphin.
Haha, indeed. Although, a dorsal fin is an upright vertical stabilizer. 😉🤣
Make it into an 8-channel crow setup like I did and you can sustain a flare for landing: ruclips.net/video/Ly7y2UUB7Rc/видео.html
You can also high alpha with about a 25% crow mix.
If you're flying stock, it'll most definitely tip stall with flare attempts instead of settling in, and high alpha is basically out of the question.
