    I've had a QCX mini for a while and step 2, wrapping the toroid was keeping me from getting started. I've never done this. Your video took all the mystery out of it. Your video helped me get over the hesitation to get going. Also your relaxed approach to teaching is excellent. Thanks Steve.

    Great video Steve, thank you for sharing it. It certainly gives me a lot more confidence with winding my toroids. Cheers!

    Thanks for this, I'm getting this kit in soon and mine is the 20 meter version as well. 72 de AI5DD p.s. Hans suggests installing the small bits first, then do the big bits.

      Good luck in your build - yes small bits first then big bits!

      @@temporarilyoffline thanks man! I'm at the end of the series where you're tuning the power. Lots of good stuff, love the ambient music. 73!

      @@temporarilyoffline My kit is coming in Thursday, and I am re-watching your videos. You did the order correctly, I didn't know you did the T-1 toroid first per the instructions. I must have phased out when I first watched this video.

    Thanks Steve, Although I question the choice of BGM. You keep telling us to relax while there is an intense Bass line playing.
    It reminded me of the Queen intro to the '80's Flash Gordon Movie.... I kept expecting the group to sing "FLASH! AHH-hhh" at any moment.

      Hey Ralph! It was pretty ominous when I was working on it, but in the end it wasn't as bad as all the other hams said it would be

    • @ralphmills7322

      @@temporarilyoffline Steve The BGM might been less ominous if I wasn't wearing headphones so as not disturb the XYL.
      I started watch your series since I'm thinking of doing a kit build. The QCX mini seems to be a lot of radio in a small package. I really wanted to do the QDX, but with the problem sourcing or finding substitute parts, there is the potential of a long wait for kits becoming available.

      @temporarilyoffline  2 года назад +1

      @@ralphmills7322 Hans is pretty close to having the qdx restocked with a new chipset. The qdx is easier to build. The qcx mini is an excellent radio and an "elegant" build.

      @@ralphmills7322 You know... at first I thought BGM meant "Big Gray Monster" for the toroid, but I get that you meant background music. I thought that was funny and wanted to share that with you.

    Love your stuff Steve, thanks. Could you please say what sort of temperature your Iron was for this type of work?

    My piece of advice to don't holder soldering iron under PCB during getting solder to tip. You might get small joint on PCB but don't notice this =)

    Well done. Mine has been in the cupboard of forgotten items for the last year after that toroid (on 40m) tested my patience too far.

    • @temporarilyoffline

      Thanks! I was lucky in that my favorite band to operate portable is 20m and that is a little easier.

    • @nathanw851
      @nathanw851 2 года назад

      @@temporarilyoffline Yeah, ordering 40m was an error in hindsight. 20 is better for portable antenna options. I've just ordered some more 28awg wire, and it seems from the instructions that the toroids are the same for the 20/40m bands, so it's just a case of swapping out some ceramics, which I have. Here's hoping for second time lucky. :)
