I build my 40m QCX a few years ago, and just today picked up a 20m QCX Mini. I've been watching this series and can't wait to use it as reference. Thanks! 73, K8JLW
I just finished building the QCX-Mini for 40. It was one of the Original Rev 1 boards. I never build Rev 1 boards but this radio is amazing. I built the entire thing and then ran into problems, but folks on the QCX forum page email reflector gave me lots of encouragement and through a great amateur with some better test equipment than what I possess really made it work. Those “bugs” have since been worked out of the boards and I highly recommend people build it. The smaller form factor vs the bigger original QCX + forced you to work more carefully and really follow the manual to have the best chance of success. All in all a great experience and I learned a lot. I just ordered a 30M kit and after that will build a 20 or higher band version.
It would be awesome if you could get choice of colors for cases to easily tell them apart too! This is a fantastic kit and I highly recommend it to anybody that wants to build a kit. It is complex, but not too complex I think.
@@temporarilyoffline If you have built any kit before then it’s just a matter of going slow and taking your time. Winding T1 even though I have been building kits for 25 years was slightly tedious. If you mess it up order some #28 magnet wire on Amazon and start over. This little thing was TINY. I honestly would have had an easier time building the bigger QCX+ which is the same radio in a bigger box. My Revision 1 board had 4 dead SMD IC’s that needed to be replaced. 4 ! Lol. But that was the first boards and the bugs have been worked out since last years release. Ron, WA7GIL helped me get it repaired. Great Amateur ! It’s enroute back to me and will soon be on the air. I can’t wait. Now to figure out what antenna I can use with it portable. :)
@@user-ss6zt2mo1l I'm glad that toroid was step 1 in the instructions, I knocked it out right away and didn't look back: ruclips.net/video/0AJriYSinWc/видео.html I'm using my QRPGuys Tri-Band Vertical, its resonant on 20m and then tuned on 30 and 40... since I'm working with a 20m rig, this works out great and I already had it and had it built.
@@temporarilyoffline QRPGuys has some really fantastic Inexpensive gear. I love that. It reminds me of the kits I built in the 1990's with the Norcal QRP Club. I still have and use my original Norcal 40. It is 26+ years old. Still going strong :)

Awesome Reid, be sure to let me know if you have any questions or when you're ready to make a QSO
@@temporarilyoffline Will do! Are you using a Hakko FX-888d soldering iron?
Yes, I like it so much I bought a second one!
@@temporarilyoffline I hope they do build the multiband transceiver. That would be great.
Genius idea with the voltage knob 👍🏻
Yeah, I thought that was a pretty slick setup. This thing is an elegant puzzle!

Starting to come together.

Have you placed a jumper to activate the battery indicator display? If so any tips about opening up a Mini to get where the jumper should go?
I haven't, I need to dig this radio out and spend more time with it. It's a neat kit.
