Just an FYI: *Regular* WD-40 shouldn't be used, but "White Lithium" is made specifically for lubricating metal-on-metal applications and as an anti-rusting agent that can be used on ball bearings. WD-40 (the Brand) makes White Lithium sprays
Fr?
🙄mmm...yeah...no. I was told this when I was very young, so I actually cleaned out my bearings once, and gave it a try. I've never had a slower rolling bearing. Because lithium grease not the right lubricant for a skateboard bearing. For skateboarding, you need a very lightweight oil. Bearings that come with grease already in them are also generally the worst. FYI. Never take advice from a non-skater.
dont use thick grease on bearings only use oil
wd-40 is better than nothing because it cleans them. I use them for my bike chine and lube stays on. bike chine wd-40 should be used because it design to not just clean but lubricate. skateboard bearing never go at high rpm or get really hot so bike wd-40 should work.
When I was buying my setup in the late 80s everyone had nsk but hey didn't have any so I go GSM With spacers and theyv lasted 39 years and still on my 90s Rocco 3 my fav thing was bombing down nice hill and doing the longest death slide which quickly turned bullet and t bones wheels int little wheels it's basically a tank of a board
One point... You are 100% right about WD40 being for water evaporation as the W D literally means "Water Dispersion" But to say "bone dry"... you don't want water in the bearings... it is just not a proper lube
im a new skater this video was amazing simple and helpful thank you
Love this series, it's helped me so much.
Keep up the good work!
I have some $6 enjoy bearings and they are really good for the price and similar to reds
AntToeKnee Oreo where can i find them lmao 😂

Recently broke a bearing; leaving me with 7 bone Swiss bearings. My question is should I use my slightly used bones reds, or should I use the 7 Swiss bearings and 1 reds? Not sure if it will really make a difference
Just keep using the swiss bearings and replace the broken one with whatever you got. 👍 - Tim
Great pount about wd40 not being a lubricant It’s crazy how many guys think wd 40 is a lubricant. It’s great for cleaning/penetrating and dispersing moisture but not a lubricant.
What do you recommend as the best bran/ bearing
Bones and Bronson bearings are certainly the most popular, but brands like Andalé, Lucky, Shake Junt, Cortina, and Hard Luck make good bearings too. - Tim
Try Bones Big Balls. I bought a set last week and am in love.
Reds fairly cheap and awesome
Mini Logo and Independent Bearings are great and perform as fast as reds, I rode them for 6 months and they barely slowed down!
Synopsis
i use bronson shieldless and they're good
Do different bearings on the front compared to the back make a difference?
eg. 5s on the front and 9s pn the back?
Or visa versa?
No. Those high Abec ratings apply when bearings are new.
Thanks Tim.
GUIDE TO SKATE BEARINGS
just get any bearings made by a skate brand, so long as they are skate brands bearings, they’ll be good and there’s really not much difference in bearings from the 10-25 dollars range.
bearings that are over 25 bucks are gonna be way better because they’re probably gonna be made of ceramic or other non rusting metals which are much better than normal stainless steel.
Had to learn this the hard way. Cant tell you how many bones reds bearings I have gone thru because they touch a puddle and won’t spin the next day
What bearing code should I get?
I have some bearing that sat unusued for years. They hardly spun at all so I tried to clean and lube them but they were still pretty bad. Is it possible to save them do you think?
If they can spin on their own for 10 seconds or more then you could probably salvage them, but if they're seized up and they make a wretched sound when they screech to a halt within a second, then you're probably better off getting some different bearings. Fortunately bearings are too expensive. I hope that helps! Cheers! - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop Thanks man. I'll check em again but from memory they barely spun at all so probably seized up. Really appreciate the advice though.
The best bearings are the ones with nylon shields.. Basically any fake bones bearings that cost $5 will suffice and last a long time
Thank Dr.
thanks brother
Also on my indipendent trucks the washer over the rubber always bent when trying to make the trucks a bit stiffer so I put a strong washer on it
You sure you’re just not making them too tight? I’ve never heard of that happening
Does this guide also apply to scooter and caster board bearings?
I'm pretty sure scooters and caster boards also use the standard 608 bearing, so this will also apply to them as well. 👍 - Tim
cool wheels!
How often should you clean your bearings? I got some that I really like and want them to last.
You can clean them as often as you want, but you only really need to clean your bearings when they're noticeably slower. 👍 - Tim
I got a question what is the best lubricant for skateboard bearings
I'd say the Bones Speed Cream because it's specially designed to handle the crusty elements in skating. 👍🛹
www.tactics.com/bones-bearings/speed-cream/single
I recently bought a set of bronson g2s and I noticed they have 2 rubber seals unlike reds or superfly bearings. I'm used to putting the plastic/nylon/whatever cages of the bearings facing inwards to the wheels and the shield outwards, but since there are two shields does it matter which orientation they're installed?
Actually, with the Bronson G2 bearings, they're designed to have the shield with the black stripe on it face the inside of the wheel. 👍
Yeah bro so good
I putted alcohol to my bearings and it works really good.
Just remember to lube them once the alcohol has dissipated.
Are Spitfire Cheapshots bearings good? I need a bearing that’s not too expensive and will last me a long time.
nah man go for reds
🔥🔥
is it wrong to use spacers on a 52mm? he dont use them and on my new 52mm wheels was so hard to put the bearings but i was using also the spacers
what would you say is the best begginner bearing bronson or reds best for the budget?
The Bones Reds and the Bronson G2 bearings are on par for performance and about the same price. I think the G2's are 2 bucks cheaper. You can't go wrong with either. Cheers! - Tim
Thank you so much for the help and the advice Tim
what's the best for beginner and tricks
What would be good bearings for long boards
G3 bronsons
Misleading
Titanium bearings don't exist. Titanium coated bearings do, but the coating doesn't last long before wear reveals the steel surface.
Andale blues pretty good and cheap
I bought my second bearings, they are Spitfire Classics, they cost about 15 dollars, was it ok?😿
Yes
Hello I was wondering which bearings are best for street skate, shake junt abec7 or bronson g2 ???
what i shuld buy???
Both of those bearings are gonna be about the same quality, so just go with which ever look better with the rest of your complete. 👍
Bro the Bering for longboard are the same for skateboard??
I have Bones Reds and Bones Swiss. Which one should I use in my cruiser board and which one should I use in my trick board?
I'd probably put the Swiss in the cruiser and the Reds in the trick board. That way you can keep your cruiser fast, and if the Reds break from the stress of skating, you won't be too bummed because Reds are pretty inexpensive comparatively. But it's completely up to you! Cheers! 👍 - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop makes sense to me, thank you so much!
Hey man I was wondering, what do you use to clean the bearings? I’ve been looking about and searching for what to use but whenever I see someone use this product they use another, any recommendations?
This is straight from the Bones Bearings website for their cleaning kit. "Solvents we recommend are: Acetone, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Citrus cleaner, and Denatured alcohol. All of these can be found in the paint section of your local hardware store. Products we DO NOT recommend are petroleum-based products like; paint thinner, gasoline, kerosene, lacquer thinner, turpentine or anything that contains tolulene." Cheers! - Tim
What bearings should i get for my cruiser? Bones swiss or the reds?
It just depends on your budget. If you want to splurge and the the Bones Swiss, they're super fast and smooth. But the Bones Reds work well too. If you're going to be riding in the rain at all, then maybe go with the Reds because it would suck to ruin expensive bearings, but if not then maybe invest in the Swiss. It's up to you really.
How much the skate board bearing?
Are enuff bearings good?
I bought new wheels and my bearings dont fit them. What can I do?
What kind of wheels are they? Are the bearings you have standard 608 bearings?
Hi i just got my bearings very wet a few days ago and i stupidly just left it so now they are really really rough and they also squeek very loudly, how do i fix them? if i even still can.
You can try using a rust cleaner like CLR or something like that to dissolve the rust, then lube them up and hope for the best. But the damage might have already been done and you may have to scrap them.
i went to a shop they said the more u use it the better its going to be but it didnt get better
Maybe they need to be cleaned? Check out our video on how toc lean your skateboard bearings for more info: ruclips.net/video/9TTqG5U8bcI/видео.html
Do I need spacers and washers tho
Some bearing sets have spacers and washers included. I'd definitely recommend using the washers to keep the axle nut/tool from crunching the bearing shields. The spacers between the bearings are useful too but not mandatory. In most skateboarding scenarios the spacers won't make a difference, but if you're doing a bunch of hill bombs and going really fast and doing lots of powerslides, then the spacers will help preserve your bearings. 👍 - Tim
Hey I have a 8.0 board but I don’t know what size weels to get
It really will depend on what kind of skating you're wanting to do. Here's a video that might help you make a decision. Cheers! - Tim ruclips.net/video/R__2Ky2WO4s/видео.html
can i use petroleum jelly as a lubricant??
I wouldn't, Petroleum jelly is way too thick and will slow down the bearing significantly. Plus it'll get all gummy when dirt inevitably seeps into the bearings. Go for something thinner like Bones Speed Cream, 3-in-1 oil, or bike chain oil. ✌ - Tim
If I buy cheap unbranded skateboard bearings does that make a difference
They probably will not last as long as higher quality bearings, but you should still be able to skate them fine. As long as they're not those atrocious bearings that come in Walmart completes, those things don't even roll. 😂 ✌ - Tim
what size hardware should i get for a 7.75 inch skateboard
The deck width isn't going to factor in to the hardware length. What will factor in is your deck thickness, and if you're using risers or not. I assume you have a 7-ply deck (most skateboards are 7-ply), so if you don't have risers, you can use 7/8 inch hardware, but if you do have risers, you'll have to get longer hardware to accommodate for them. Here's a video about hardware if you have any more questions. Cheers! - Tim ruclips.net/video/Qd7G1AG2yKs/видео.html
Thank you
I bought Bones Reds bearings
Why it does not roll very well than old one? Is it so new?
How much did you tighten the axle nuts when you put the wheels on? If you made them tight then the bearings will get pinched and be slower. If you leave a tiny bit of slack, then they'll spin more freely. Hopefully that helps! - Tim
Which bearing are the thumbnail shown?
I think those are Modus bearings. The blue color was just so nice for the photo! Some other blue bearings are the Bones Big Balls and the Andalé Blues. 👍
Are Rush titanium coated (ABEC-7) bearings good? My local skate shop has them for sale for $10
if the shop is owned by skaters, they should be good, a skater wouldn’t sell products that aren’t good for skating.

How offen should you switch wheels
It depends on how much you skate, where you skate, how many powerslides you do, etc. There's a ton of factors that will determine how long your wheels last. If the wheels are worn down to the point where it's difficult for you to keep up your speed and every bump or crack in the side walk feels jarring, then it's probably time for new wheels. 👍 - Tim
Here's a video about when to switch out your wheels if you want more info. ruclips.net/video/l_F3eqG3qZ0/видео.html
Thank you👊👊
I used 3 in 1 oil and my bearing are very slow. What should I do
And where I live I don't have a skate shop to get proper lubricant meaning i have to use what I have.
Any lubricant will slow the bearing down slightly, but also protects it and makes it last longer. Just let the lube settle in and it'll be back to normal. Was the bearing full of dirt or seized when you put the oil in?
Whitch bearing is run faster ABEC7 or ABEC11
When I first started skating I thought the higher the Abec the faster the bearings are. I now know that the abec rating is for industrial type applications for when the bearings are at speeds of over 100mph! For skateboarding bearings Abec is irrelevant
Are big balls good bearings?
Yes
Is superglue a good alternative to speed cream
this is a joke right
@@nathanspiessens4213 i hope
My friend always puts WD-40 in his bearings. I told him not to, but he continues, now I just cringe every time he does it. Its fun to see someone else ruin their board lol
Do they work on Walmart skateboarders?
Yes, skateboard wheels and bearings have been standardized so you can put any skate-brand bearing (608 bearing) into any skate specific wheel. 👍 - Tim
It's a simple choice, Bones Reds end of discussion.
Only Bones
Can I but bones speed cream in Bronson raw bearings?
Yup! You can use it for all bearings. 👍
@@tacticsboardshop bro what is abec and what abec should i get?
@@__-pw8zw Abec is an industrial rating of bearings that measures the physical tolerances of the bearings. So a higher Abec rating would mean that the bearing has more precise machining and can spin faster and smoother (although abec tests spin the bearings way faster than any situation in skateboarding). However Abec doesn't take into consideration other factors that are present in skateboarding like lateral stress and impact. So a higher abec rating means that it can physically spin smoother at faster speeds, but doesn't mean that it will last longer. So I wouldn't worry too much about Abec rating, just get whatever bearings fit your budget. Cheers! - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop thanks bro i love u so much
Lol I just bought the chepest ones
Hahahah
I'm here because I'm writing a blog on skateboard bearings.
The only good quality bearings are Bones Swiss- best Chinese bearings are the Bones Big balls
"don't use WD40"
I feel dumb
you just learned something, it's okay to feel dumb
but fuck people who make others feel dumb for not knowing something, they can go to hell
What are good bearings to start off with? I don’t wanna go slow but not fast either. My bones reds bearings are a bit fasst for me
I mean, Bones Reds are kind of the quintessential starter bearing. So if you wanted something slower, you'd probably have to get some cheaper price-point bearings. But I think after you get used to it, you'll appreciate the fact that the bearings are nice and fast, and they'll only go as fast as you allow them to go. I think it's probably better to have better bearings that are smoother, than ones that are sluggish and make you have to push twice as much. But I guess it's all just personal preference. Stay safe out there! - Tim

And no don’t put grease inside your bearings, it’ll just gum up everything.😂
