I will be starting nursing school this fall and am currently watching your videos to become comfortable with the terminology and familiarize myself with the core concepts of nursing. This particular video has been incredibly helpful and I am very grateful for it. Thank you.
This is an excellent explanation on interpreting if ABG's are compensating either partially, fully, or not at all. I spent over an hour in my MedSurg class trying to understand this. This 7 minute video tremendously helped me understand the pathophysiology, compared to the one hour I spent listening to my instructor confuse my entire class by trying to explain this topic. Keep making these videos. Have you thought about doing a video on the Lymphatic System? Thank you so much. I will keep continuing to watch these videos.
We LOVE hearing how our resources helped you feel more confident in your knowledge! Hope you have a fantastic day, @sassy77823.😀We will add lymphatic system to our list of future topics to possibly cover.
I felt exactly the same way. My MedSurg professor gave a half-ass explanation, then we worked on a group assignment for an hour, trying to identify different ABG values. Left class having no clue what we just did. So happy I found this video!
Taking an anatomy class now and going into nursing school next semester, and I am struggling with figuring out compensation, but you explained it in a way I understood! Thank you! I'm definitley watching more of your videos!

I am still a little confused about something. So when you say the life of the parting is "changing" when it is partially or fully compensated, does that mean the value has to be outside of normal range, or can it still be within normal range, depending on how much the life of the party has to compensate. I feel like that wasn't made very clear. Also, for uncompensated, you said the life of the party value has to be within normal range. Is this always the case? I know this video is over a year old, but if this can be clarified for me, it would help me a lot. Thank you.
Rachel Coughlin, so if it is uncompensated, the life of the party will be in normal range. So if it went outside of normal range it would be compensated. We want to make sure we fully understand the first part of your question, (partially or fully compensated), would you be able to email us at hello@nursingsos.com andwe can make sure to clarify for you. :) Also, this is the ABG cheat sheet which will be SUPER helpful for younursingschoolofsuccess.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Arterial-Blood-Gases-ABGs-Cheat-Sheet.pdf
Is it UNCOMPENSATED as long as ONLY one of them (CO2 or HCO3) is off? Like would PH matter at that point? (Example): Would Normal PH, abnormal CO2, and normal HCO3 be UNCOMPENSATED, AND (Example): Abnormal PH, abnormal CO2, and normal HCO3 also be UNCOMPENSATED? PLZ LMK! THNX
@nassirhussein9438 the PH is going to help you determine if it is uncompensated or compensated. This video will be helpful to look at too: ruclips.net/video/B7X_XlYGKyI/видео.html

@@NursingSOS I have already seen both videos and they are really awesome thank you ,but I mean if it is respiratory , how to determine if it is acute or chronic? as in this pic image1.slideserve.com/1930352/blood-gas-interpretation2-l.jpg
I'm not able to see the picture, unfortunately. Can you please describe it? You may hear the term "acute" or "chronic" to abg's as it relates to compensation. Since it takes the body a while to compensate for a pH issue (alkalosis or acidosis), you may hear that if it's uncompensated (meaning, the body hasn't had time to fix it) that may be considered an acute abg issue. On the other hand, if it's compensated (meaning the body has been able to fix it) that may be considered chronic (since it's been a longer time - and long enough for the body to fix the pH). Does that help?
@@NursingSOS literally as you said , acute or chronic is an alternative method to say compensated or uncompensated if the issue is related to the lungs . I learnt that 2 years ago but l forgot it . So, l looked for it at an old book and found that if the ph is accepted (in the normal range) , it is chronic . If unaccepted , it is acute . It is that simple 😂 Thank you, it really helped.
