In 2:21 I grasp the concept. I came in with some knowledge. I memorize the ranges and flow chart to show what values lines up with acidosis vs alkalosis. I was stuck on the whole compensated part. Now I fully understand when to use compensated and uncompensated. 1 step closer to mastering my ABG quiz. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you soooo much for this video Cathy! I am currently in Med Surg 1 and I am having trouble with ABGs. Now I understand fully/partial compensation and un-compensation. THANKS
I'm almost finished with nursing school I wish I found this page sooner. I've been coming to this page for literally all nursing topics since the beginning of last year and it has been a life saver! My grades dramatically improved thank you so much for all you do. This was the best simplest explanation on the internet!
Thank you for your videos they are great. Please if you have 4 different patients with each of those values which patients will you see first? Is it the first one? Where HCO3 is not trying to fixed the problem?
Ma’am what should be the answer for this ? pH - 7.12 HCO3 - 36 mmol/litre pCO2 - 60 mm of Hg Should the answer be “Respiratory acidosis “ or “Respiratory acidosis with compensatory metabolic alkalosis” ?!
Just wanted to share a silly trick my teacher used from a previous student when teaching us how to memorize ABG numbers. It sticks in my mind til this day 😂. The pH is 7.35 - 7.45 I am between ages 35 to 45. And I only date women ages 22 to 26.
Actually you can get ABG info, example problems, and the answer key for free at this link: www.leveluprn.com/blogs/abg-interpretation/arterial-blood-gas-abg-interpretation-practice-problems-cheatsheet. If you want to take the course that includes quiz questions to test your knowledge, there is a charge for that.
Cathy I have hypoxia, my VQ scan is normal, my echo is normal, my EKG shows SVT’s and I had an ablation in September. The pulmonologist prescribed CO I’m on 2 litters, and she wants an angiogram to rule out shunt, her NP wants me to get a bubble echo, ABG and last angiogram! I’m so confused what to do! My oxygen is low even while setting and using my oxygen, please help!!!!

I thought if the pH and Co2 are the same it would be metabolic alkalosis?

We do what we can! 😉
You could have mentioned that you charge for the ABG material.

What if HCO2 was 18 in question 2. What would it be?
Awesome :)
