Sleeping Beauty on Ice 1987 - Lubovitch, broadcast version restored

This is the 1987 Sleeping Beauty ice ballet by Lars Lubovitch as broadcast in the US. It uses ice dancing, but includes some simple animation and conventional ballet. It is choreographed as a presentation of the story rather than just an exhibition of skating prowess. The evil fairy is the most compelling character, as villains often are. There is a slightly different version on videotape which differs in the credits and the act transitions.
A full commercial DVD from the master tapes would be wonderful, but this restoration from an old Beta tape will have to do until a full resolution copy is commercially released. This version does not have the best resolution because it was deinterlaced by default rather than by using a better procedure. As a result it has more jitter and the vertical resolution has been halved. The video tape version in a very good transfer with better resolution is also now available.

It is of course from the VHS copy. It is too bad they never put it on laserdisc or DVD at full resolution. If the master tapes still exist they could release a better looking version.

They said this was a Beta copy that what used.. So, I was speaking in contrast of... This copy vs my old VHS. This copy is better. I'm so happy I found it.

An updated release from the master tapes would have higher horizontal resolution, but not much extra vertically. As I recall it was produced as a video and not a film. However there may be a PAL version with higher resolution. This of course has been digitally sharpened.
