- Why pay hundreds of dollars on a decorative mailbox post when you can build one yourself using common tools! In this video I use a miter saw to make my cuts, but all of these cuts can be made with a circular saw or even a box saw!
If you're into making money with woodworking then this video is for you!

Thank YOU!! I followed your instructions and I got mine done!! Used a Miter saw! Not bad for a middle aged woman lol.. It came out SOO GOOD!! Thank You!!
Thank you so, so much for your demonstration of how to cut a “cap” - perfectly paced and understandable for this newbie who is still making friends with her compound mitre saw. Your step-by-step breakdowns of the actual pieces you make has really helped me to “see” the component parts of the retail items I would like to try to make. 🇨🇦
Of course! You’ve got this!
since i took notes on this fantastic video, i noticed that post shrunk from 78" to 76" and from starting with a 12' 4x4 to 10' 4x4 No big deal but I had to do extra math.. seriously.... I LOVE this video!! building it now.
Just a comment to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. I am 76 years old and you en spire me. I like that you challenge and encourage your kids. Some day they will tell you what a great dad they have.
Thank you so much for this video! I bought a 4x4 Solar post cap light for the top. Can't wait to make mine.
I bought a 4x4 last night to make a mailbox post. This was the first video that came up in my search. I will be making this after church this morning. Thank you
Beautifully made video. one of the best I've seen.. going out to make my post now!!! thank you!
you should see how mine came out!!! It's beautiful! thank you. My husband thought i spend a lot on the post! lol
Your timing could not have been better. I just bought a new mailbox and need to build the post. This looks great. Thanks again for another fantastic video. I'll be a subscriber for life.
Thanks for the video! I ended up making the post for my church and inlayed a black walnut cross in each side! Keep the videos coming. Thanks again.
Perfect timing, someone ran over mine last night. Sell them to realtors as well, for their signs!
Nice!
I have viewed a number of mailbox post build videos on RUclips and I rate this one the best. Layout and cuts well explained and demonstrated along with some simple tricks to enhance the look. Thanks.
Wow, thanks!
Bro, I love your channel and your projects. I moved to Europe last year to be able to spend more time with my kids, and boy, does your channel come in handy with different projects that we can do. Thanks a bunch!!!
I was planning on making snow shields to sell soon. I made one for myself years ago. Now i can add a matching post and sell as a bundle
Nice!
Great timing Matt, my brother needed a new mailbox post and asked me to make 1, the big box store was asking to much for a ready made post $274.99, I'm only charging $150.00 lol and he has to buy the 4x4 post
Nice! And yes perfect timing! It’s great when things happen like that.
Wow!
These fence posts are only $27 (Home Depot) and $32 (Lowes) at the big box stores. You're ripping your brother off.
@@christhomas6103 I was going to say the same thing - don't know what big box store people are going to, but these are
@@Lee-xm1cu Wayfair has some gorgeous looking ones that are outrageously expensive.
Another Fantastic Video Brother. It's rewarding to see the transformation that I've watched your shop go through.
I was on Wayfair last night while I was lying on the heat'n pad(it was that kind of day.) and I was breaking down all different pieces, making plans, and stuff.
Thank you! Sounds like me! lol
This would make a good gift for a relative and maybe that would turn into several sells. Great insight on the build and as always thanks Matthew.
Thanks 👍
I love this guy, so down-to- earth......................
O-M-G! We just took keys for our house and I need a mailbox and post! Talk about timing!!!!
Matthew, you are a really good teacher!
Thanks so much!
Loved it build. Thanks for breaking it down into simple steps!
No problem!
Brilliant build, here in the UK there isn't much call for a Mailbox post unless you live on a farm or cottage in a rural part of the UK, but i have to say all your videos have been excellently spoken and not rushed like some other channels do. I have been on your Etsy shop and have looked around on it i have also clicked the 'Follow' link as well, and hopefully i can get some plans to download.
Barry (UK) 👍
Beauty! Timing is perfect, as my daughter just gave me my next project!
Excellent....Thanks for the help!
Another great , money saving , DIY video.
Thanks 👍
I was selling those back in the late 90’s to a local hardware chain. Your design is almost exactly what I used. We could not keep enough on hand. It was a great money maker!
Very cool!
I wish they were still north of $100. The most expensive post I found between "H" & "L" was $80. And that was a red cedar.. not worth competing with them at an average of $50 bucks.
Matt, great video though!
I love the video. I am working towards my own small shop. This would be a good afternoon project for me. Thank you so very much!
You are so welcome!
Thank you soooooo much for the demonstration on the mailbox post. I just made one for my mailbox. Love it. Just a few small angled cuts set it off.
This is perfect for completing our new home build. I really enjoy all of your videos... keep up the great work.
My mail box post has needed replaced for years, thanks for the idea!
No worries!
"to be"
As a mail carrier in Canada. i approve of this project. Lol. Nice job!
Lol thank you!
Always love how encouraging and positive you are in your videos!
Thank you so much!
I often wondered how they were built. Thanks again for the how to. I will be doing that.
Glad to help
Excellent build. Practical and economical
It sure is!
You posted this 3 hours ago, and already have well over 4k views. 👏👏 Congrats! You're awesome.🎉
Thank you!! 😁
Amazing. Started making one the weekend. Did the old weathered look for mine. This gives me even more ideas! Thanks Matthew!
Great to hear!
Another great woodworking project that so many would need to purchase!
@@porkchop8542 Exactly!
@@MatthewPeechWoodworkingBro I cannot even begin to express how much I like your channel. I love how you CONSISTENTLY make videos on WOODWORKING! Everybody else I have subscribed to NOW ONLY DOES PRODUCT REVIEWS. Do you know how boring and aggravating that is??? But you my friend continually make woodworking videos. I APPRECIATE your dedication to that and your dedication to explaining and showing how to make those items. Keep on doing what you're doing. Very happy subscriber here
@@jacobburkettBob Cossman has some decent videos and How to's. Alot of RUclipsrs already made their how to and run out of ideas is the reason I think product reviews are now what they're doing. There's plenty of RUclipsrs I'm sure that do build videos. King fine woodworking does tutorials. Matthew Peech has the best videos on making projects you can make to sell and buy more tools though imo.
Great video, thanks
Hey love the channel and I'm just starting to try out some of your designs. This one in particular I think you must have started with a 10' 4"x4" because I just bought a 12' one and 78"+28"=106" subtract that from 144" leaves a 38" cutoff which is quite a bit bigger than the cutoff you end up with here that appears to be closer to 14" which is what you would have left over if you started with a 10' board. I just bought a cedar post to make this project and the cost of the extra 2' wasn't insignificant. Just thought you and any others making this project might want to know.
If you live in the north country where snow plows raise havoc with mailboxes you would use some of that extra length for the horizontal arm. Make it about a foot longer so the post sets back farther from the shoulder of the road but the mailman can still access the mailbox.
@@danholtbk7008 yes I do and was going to do that as well as add more length to the bottom to bury deeper. The frost line here runs about 36-48” depending on the winter.
This is perfect. My in-laws' neighborhood has to replace a bunch of mailboxes. Hopefully I can get some work.
Also you can use an angle router bit to make that groove..u only have to nail or screw a guide into the 4x4 and u good to go...many ways to do ..ur way is awesome too👍👍
*Great Build!!! I think I need to make one of these & Laser Engrave Ramirez down the Post.*
Always like your videos and builds.
I appreciate that!
Always making great stuff!
I made ine similar to this a couple years ago that looked amazing....till someone hit it and snapped it in half at the lap joint in the middle of winter. Braced it with 2x4s and never replaced it. Lol
But you've inspired me to by a new board and get it done!
Sounds great!
Mathew another outstanding project
Matthew, Great timing! Guess what I need!!!
Perfect timing.
Matthew, As usual, you deliver top quality videos and content. I watch your videos because they inspire me to step up my game. About a year ago I purchased one of these (high dollar) post. I wish this would have been out then. Your 16 degree angle stripe cuts look better than the straight cuts I have on mine. I have been giving thought to adding a (solar controlled) security camera trough the back of the post right above the back of the box. Even thought about drilling a hole in the top of the post and adding a solar sidewalk light. Anyway, Please keep these great videos coming.
this is cool Matt, gonna have to try this, our mail box was stolen last year, we went metal pipe cemented 4ft down, it would stop a semi truck now, lol, but i could have a market for this, so gonna try this after the vikings chairs i just got the wood to make them
Nice!
Thanks. Put it together in one afternoon. Note: this video uses a 10’ 4x4 not a 12’.
Good job and project thx for sharing enjoyed it Keep up the great work
fantastic miter saw tips! I can't wait to try them out.
Enjoyed your video, very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Great explanation, you make it easy l Thanks again ! Mine is about due to be to be replaced. I am headed to the Blue Store in the am to snag a 4x and a couple bags of quick Creet . Cheers!
Thanks
Nice! I gotta make one for my house now!
Will be using some of these techniques. Thanks
Most Excellent video.
Many thanks!
Perfecto! Love your build...
Thank you!
Thanks Matthew! Needed this one.
Came out nice, thanks for the instructions👍
Great video Mathew peech sir
Thank you!
Welcome
I wanna try how you did the fancy end caps. I've a mitre saw but most of my cuts are just straight ones. Love your videos.
You can do it!
Great useful build Peech! Well done! 💪😎
i have a custom slatted mailbox post i made.pretty fancy to. i posted on a local site and to my suprize theres alot of people that want one.think i started a craze in the city i live in..woohoo
Love the projects and your channel. My only caution on this one is Lowes sells a similar one for around $31. Not as fancy but basically the same post.
Always love your videos!
Love it. Another great video
That’s a great idea!!
Thanks!
Well done.
Thanks!
You rock! Thank you!
You're welcome!
So we don't really have these external mailboxes in my country, but for sure this can be used for other things. I'm think banners or perhaps a post for hanging lights? Thanks for the tutorial. I bought a miter saw because of your builds and consider it my favorite tool now. Thnx matt!
Great video Love it
Thank you .
Working at my moms house and she literally left to go get a mail box before i sat to watch this video.
Just have her take it back!

Loved this build and easy to make
It really is!
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking keep up the hard work on making great videos out of all the videos on building stuff yours are the only ones I truely like watching. The way you describe and walk thru the build make it easy to understand and show anyone can do it
Love it. Great details. Nice wood? stock HD or Lowes? Stained nice.
Thanks again.
I dig it imma build it
Thanks
First project in first miter saw! Thanks for the help. Great video. Love the post. I bought the same mailbox. How did you mount it on? Does that same company sell a mounting bracket?
Wayfair canada wants $399.99!
Thank you for breaking this down to easy to follow instructions.
Thank you again for all the encouragement and simplifying the projects in your videos.
Did you stain or paint the final fence post?
Good info.
Thanks
No problem!
So not a miter saw questions but a table saw question. I recently purchased a used tablesaw and when I got it home, I noticed that there were two blades attached to the Saul at the same time. What is the purpose of this? Is it as easy as removing one blade and going back to a regular table salt or is this a specific type of tablesaw and it requires the use of two blades?
Its a great design but not much room to make money on these. Our Lowe's sells the mail post for $37. I am glad that I now know how to make one so I don't have to go buy one .
What would be the best form of joinery to attach all of this together if one wanted to stay away from metal fasteners?
Hey thank you for all of these wonderful ideas. I do have a question for you and your followers. I have a bunch of scrap Brazilian Walnut (5x3/4) leftover from putting in our floor do you have any ideas for this type of scrap? Thank you.
Can you show how to build a package box, that has the drop down feature. Please
Wow, this looks great and it's so easy to build! What color did you stain it?
Please explain your miter saw hood!
It looks great, but what is it?
What do you do if your fence is a solid piece not two sections when bevelling?
I am fixing to get a new miter saw. I have a 10 inch that is old. Should I go 12 inch sliding or non sliding? It’s about $150 more for the sliding one. I have researched and I may be missing something but I don’t see enough benefits of the sliding one for the price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Sir. What if I want all the edges rounded or beveled? A person wants this style but, with smooth edges not square ones.
If your miter saw is not the radial arm style, is thus easier to do with a skill saw?
I unfortunately got a standard miter saw when I got one new. No way I could convince the wife to get a new compound version. So - could you do these same cuts without the compound feature, safely?
Just a quick one as I follow your channel , how come you didn't use any glue on this build0?
Great videos. Do you make a living at this? I am interested.
