"Here Comes Tomorrow", the end of Morrison's New X-Men run, is still one of my all time favorite mini-arcs, such an unexpected and surreal vision of an alternate future.
Grant Morrison and Frank quitely are friggin geniuses. I’d love to see Whedon and Cassaday’s Astonishing covered here too!
Yeah I feel their run gets p overlooked.
Just curious, what did people like about Whedon's run? I dropped out after the first arc. I felt XMen was backsliding into nostalgia with Whedon, and I just couldn't get excited about it.
Tony Reaves Great dialog and gorgeous art. Oh and Kitty.
@@tonyreaves1 Scott freaking Summers
Thank you for putting Paul Smith in the pantheon of great X-Men Artists!! I will say this, FOREVER, Paul Smith was the most underrated artist in the history of X-Men.
This period was incredible. It was genuinely surprising to discover these new designs and focus on the characters! Real great history and amazing designs and art.
And that issue where Emma and Jeans goes inside xaviers mind, all the pages without almost no words, just genius graphic narrative!
It’s telling that Marvel doesn’t think they’ve had a seminal x-men run in over 15 years! As mentioned below, Whedon/Cassady’s run is arguably worth including.
Yes, then Brubaker also. Then Hickman.
Well Whedon is understandable. After the allegations against him. Though you have a point on Brubaker

Jim Lee: Am I a joke to you?
@Miko xmas Jim Lee with Claremont only lasted 3 issues
"greatest comic book artist alive... and maybe of all time" dude was trippin
Moe Dotson read the back issues of Jim lee and clairmont uncanny x-men run
For a pair of creators who aren’t Marvel based, this is an amazingly generous video.
Great run.
Great tribute.
I remember when this series was coming out. I was getting sick of X-Men. They haven't came out with anything fresh since Claremont left. Then when Grant came in, I was glued to it which lead straight to the Whedon Cassaday era.
What a great run. Two Titans working together on this characters. And that amazing uniforms. I loved how they put Emma Frost between Scott and Jean.
Ethan Van Sciver or whatever his name is, also drew a few numbers and he did a great job.
I loved seeing those alternate designs for Emma. I'm gonna re-read this run and get geared up for "House Of X/Powers Of X!"
I hope that part 5 is Josh Whedon and John Cassady's Astonishing X-Men run!
That's my favorite run on xmen
Probably the greatest mainstream comic run of all time. Its been nearly 20 years and nothing is even close.
Hell no, Morrison destroyed the x men.
Whedon's run was better than this, just to mention an X-men one, but anything Jonathan Hickman has done is way better than the whole career of Grant Morrison.
Whedon/Cassiday was waaaaaay better.
@@govarius2802 Whedon's run is basically just a continuation of Morrison's run, only not as interesting
@@stephensnyder5596 More of a repair of Morrison's run.
This came out just as I was getting into reading comics, and while I dug it, I recall it being very controversial at the time. People hated the artwork, especially the way Quitely drew humans and Beast's redesign. Interesting to see a reappraisal. Maybe people always liked it? I just never saw anyone talking much about this run until recently.
I stopped collecting X-Men in the middle of this run, it was garbage.
And X-men was and still is my favorite.
@@govarius2802 It's what got me back into comics. Still one of my favorite superhero runs ever
@@tonyreaves1 Why? Legitimate question. I've read so many comics and I don't understand how this is considered so many people's favorite.
@@govarius2802 For one, they fleshed out what it meant to be a mutant. As a kid who was into punk, seeing Quentin Quire with his Magneto was Right shirt being this angry kid under Xavier's roof was awesome. I felt like aside from maybe the Morlocks, you never got to see mutants having a culture. I thought it made Cyclops interesting after a decade of being a douche. Even when he was cheating with Emma, I still liked him more than any time in the 80s. I like how they fleshed out Weapon X and added Fantomex. And the scene where Wolverine gets Scott drunk and drags him along on a mission was one of the best Logan/Scott moments ever. I like how ugly mutants got to be on the team. And he added a ton of interesting new characters.
I just envy Frank Quitely's line work, man.
Would love if you edited all the mini docs you've been doing on the X-Men into a single film at some point. These are fun to watch and would be cool to own on dvd or something
Seconded.
Can't wait 5 years from now till the X-Men come into the MCU
And I still hate the idea!
Are you a huge Avengers fan?
I preferred the XMEN with FOX.
Then you’re gonna enjoy Dark Phoenix
Will it be the X-Men though?
Luv marvel love this RUclips channel lots of love
I just started reading the omnibus of this run, & 3 issues in ... I'm hooked. I love it.
Al Ewing sounds like Jeremy Clarkson! 😂😂😂
LMAO You guys are over-selling the Frank Quitely bit: "Frank Quitely is quite possibly the Greatest Comic Book Artist Alive...and maybe of all time." Jesus.
L S better than Jim Lee? John Romita? Pffff
@Harry AbmaThere's like 100 people I would name before Frank Quitely. That's how ridiculous the original statement from the video is. lol
I stop collecting X-Men in the middle of this run. Both creators are super overrated.
It's true, tho
Also forgot Neal Adams, heck Greg capullo, Todd mcfarlane, Alex Ross, frank quitely is somewhat of an acquired taste but I don’t even think he’d make the top 20.
Now I can finally learn something 👀
That run got me back into reading X-Men. Beautiful! 😎👍
I can't wait. I need it new
Hey Marvel, bring back the X-Men Animated Series plz!!! I hope these rumors spreading around are true....
What rumors?
@@ezraelreynolds3442 google it
@@Eminem1064 why Google it when u can just tell me unless ur lying?
@@ezraelreynolds3442 he isnt lying.
Nah they’ll never do that
I love frank quietly’s art, but his difficulty in keeping up with monthly books really shows in new x-men. There are some issues where his figure work is wildly inconsistent with other issues. Over-all, this was my second fav x-men run (claremont is always first).
Yeah, that title got like 5 fill-in artists
This seminal is the great
Marvels best years are far behind them, and I cannot for the life me understand why their greatest runs of all time aren’t evergreen omnibuses. Jim lee Claremont omnibus would make a mint. Things are so screwed up on the publishing side of marvel comics that I wouldn’t be surprised if they even know that most of their greatest stories and events are out of print.
They released the lee Claremont omnibuses though
Great run!
Love Love Love!
Hay old x men movie would be a reunion love old movie I miss old games
Great run. My favorite.
Please Marvel, do a another part of X-Men seminal moments on Days Of Future Past, The Dark Phoenix Saga and also Wolverine comics
Agreed, that is clever what they did with the title. 😮
New X-men was a great series.
Probably add that Grant now uses they/them so that newcomers don't mislabel/represent them.
I know this was before Morrison came out, that's why I'm saying add the addendum somewhere.
I luv comics ever....
Can’t wait for mcu x men
this was an interesting period of xmen can't say it was my favorite though quite a few changes I didn't like nor what came after with house of M and the whole extinction stuff.........there was some interesting stuff sprinkled in astonishing xmen was pretty good with whedon though.
X men never dies
X man forever
rooting for xmen part 5
Yay
This run kind of killed X-men for me but it was well done and the artwork by Ethan and Frank was unreal. That first issue #114 is still one of the best comic books I have ever read even though I wasn't a fan of this interpretation very much. Love it or hate it EVERYONE was talking about this run!!!!
Is Grant Morrison's "Manifesto" avaliable online? I'd love to read it
Probably. It's in loaded in his omnibus of new men. It's his whole pitch for the xmen
X-Men are amazing :)
❤❤❤MARVEL❤❤❤
I Love itt
Uh it's *X-Ma'am*
*But different*
X-Malam
Poxa coloca legenda português br
This series should have went for 50 more issues
I wouldn't really consider either this series or Age of Apocalypse to be seminal moments. Both are well regarded stories but neither had a huge impact on the line outside of their initial run. Giant Size #1 set the tone of the book and stories for the eighties while 1990 X-Men#1 set the tone for the '90's. In that regard, Astonishing X-Men#1 set more of a tone and had more influence on the early oughts than New X-Men #113 did.
Is this magneto really better or worse than other depictions? Debatable, I mean Morrison's Magento(or SWIM) was possesed by the ghost of Bradley Nowell's inhaler iirc.
I can name 5 X-men artists off the top of my head who are better than Frank Quitely.
I hate these drawings. The artist may be quite inventive, but I hate that the dimensions are all wrong. The thighs are skinny and no one (especially the women) has any hips! Ugly faces, too.
Have you noticed that this is the X-men video with more "social commentary"?? New X-men is the turning point for the new millenium, where everything gets more political than fun
My favorit hero in Marvel Stan lee
I cant wait to see them with the avengers 💪
That will be a sad day for all of us.
You can pick up any random comic and chances are you'll find them together.
@@antona.1327 Actually the X-Men were usually very isolated from the rest of the Marvel universe.
@@karimianos1591, Marvel's most popular team would never be isolated from the rest. The most famous lineups of the Avengers have had mutants in them, like Maximoff Twins and Beast.
@@antona.1327 They were isolated. This was done because it's the only way for the mutant-human conflict to make sense in a world full of superheroes.
Can't wait to 2022 to see f4 and xmen reboot
Nah the F4 are the only ones that might be early on.
For the X-Men they did confirmed it will be *5 years* from now.
before 200K views?
Where they lost me was the secondary mutation nonsense.
What lost you about secondary mutations?
That’s where they lost you? Not Cassandra nova? Not sublime? A bacteria from pre dinosaur times that is responsible for people hating mutants?
One thing i cant understand is raven aka mistique dies in the dark phoenix but is alive in the last stand which actually happens in the future
After Days of Future Past, the movies set in the past (Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix) are a new canon not related to the first trilogy.
Yeah, let's talk about the iconic New X-Men run by Grant Morrison, but let's not have him in the episode.
Probably cant.Hes exclusive to DC
It's not iconic, it was trash.
X men-Dark phoniex Coming in 1000000000 fans ok
X menkind
will.
I'll miss Hugh, Michael and James a lot because they were all amazing but I'm so excited to see the Xmen finally come to the mcu.
Yeah great actors
Yeah no Frank Quitely is up there with Rob Liefield as one of the biggest hacks in comic book artist history
No, Quitely's work is awesome. Check out his stuff on "Jupiter's Legacy 2!" That dude is THE TRUTH!
New x-men animated or motion comic plz
Definitely
Nahh
Where is storm??
floyd
I still get chills thinking about this run. "What is ....X-Men?". Indeed. Yes nothing has come close since this. This was the peak of superhero comic book medium.
One things don't make sense is how Jean Grey gain back phoenix Powers😕?
or any of us.
I dunno; I personally am not a fan of this art.
Me too, i think Frank quitely art is awful
Most people aren't, he is a hack, Marvel is just hyping him up big time for whatever reason
It’s an acquired taste, but I agree I’m not a fan either.
Miko xmas Nah way better than Lee. Lee is just so boring and basic
Ethan Van Sciver did an amazing job on issue #118 👍
If you love the X-men, check out the our channel, the MOVIE MATES PODCAST. We reviewed Dark Phoenix and the entire Xmen franchise.
Was this a joke video? I was straight laughing the whole way wondering when it was going to end. This art and beauty should never be in one sentence again. The is the very reason why I didn’t want to read The New X-men. Could not stand the art.
I think She's in and Cassady run is better
Best X men run Ultimate X men
change my mind!
Ultimatum👎

Really didn't like the blobby look of this artwork. It put me off reading this series. Felt like it just had this creepy, hopeless, souless kind of vibe to me. Regardless of the storyline xmen always represented hope to me and this series just felt like there was none.
First 💓..love this movie 😘
I hated the art at first. But then I got used to it. There are still pages with terrible looking images of Wolverine for example. But overall the book is great. Jim Lee is still the best X-Men artist though. Why are Claremont and Lee's omnibuses out of print Marvel??? People like me are going to keep asking until you correct your mistake and reprint them.
Only screw-up was turning Magneto into a murderous lunatic. Out of character.
In a strange way, it was throwback to the pre-Claremont Magneto.
How. was it out of character. You do realize magneto on numerous occasions steals nukes and threatens the whole planet to be king. He is a lunatic
@@frank-vt8yf Magneto is meant to be an analogue to Malcolm X, not Che Guevara. Magneto killing teenagers? Oh boy.....Doesn't make sense for someone that survived the holocaust. Magneto being a separatist makes more sense.
well that is how he started out granted the writing back then wasn't the greatest.
Better than Jim Lee? Todd McFarland? Ethan Van Scriver? John Romita? Really guys!
These were the books that made me not like Marvel anymore. Clairmont and what followed up until the end of the Onslaught Saga was where it all ends for me. What am I saying the original universe died at the end of Legion quest and what came after age of Apocalypse was just a fractured m'kraan crystal attempting to make sense out of the schizophrenic mind of David Hollar resulting in the multiverse and what ifs that became the MCU.
TÜRKİYE⚪🔴
frank quiteley is quite frankly would have been a punnier way to say it!
But i heard the name is outdated smh...
Я вижу свастику ... Это вообще законно ???
Gg
Why wasn’t Ethan van sciver brought in for this mini documentary he contributed allot in new X-men
Mcu
Thus better not be 616 wtf is this
Frank Quitely's art is an acquired taste, a taste I don't have.
He's the best artist of all time? *Yeah, no chief.*
Claremont's run was the BEST run on X-men. Period. Not another run compares, certainly this doesn't
Pretty much the last X-Men book I bought. Was not a fan. Didn’t care for the art or the writing.
Frank Quitely isn't even in my favorite Top 50 artists list.....
New X-Men was awful. everyone was out of character; Wolverine walked around in leather pants, and it featured some of the worst art in the history of comics, especially the issues drawn by Igor Kordej. I like Morrison but he didn't get X-Men, and the art was mostly terrible.
True, finally someone with reason.
Morrison destroyed the x men.
I feel sorry anyone who doesn't recognize the sublime beauty of this run. It's like they missed out on the whole point.
I feel sorry for anyone who has such little value for the X-Men franchise, that they would defend the travesty that is New X-Men.
Finally some comments I agree with.
And yet you're too kind. Words can't describe how I hated this hit. If some no name writer pulled this, people would have gotten wise to this bullshit...
