The last clip of the 1991 Rothmans International shows the gray horse Izvestia suddenly decelerate in the middle of the backstretch. He had to be euthanized after fracturing his left hind leg in three places. He was the 1990 Canadian Triple Crown winner RIP beautiful boy 😢😢
I was there that day. I was only 12 and I knew when he was pulled up it wasn't a good sign. Mickey Walls was riding him and I ran to where the jockey paddock was to try and meet him to ask what happened. He was crying and replied "nothing". I knew they had to put him down because he was devastated.
I was at Woodbine for the '81 Queen's Plate and own tapes of that race and the Secretariat race of '73. They were cherished gifts from the greatest track announcer, and my dear friend, Daryl Wells. Thank you for keeping his, and Woodbine's, memories alive.
My favorite video you have ever posted PM! I starting working at Woodbine in 96 when I was 16 and been there since.. This video was special to watch! thank u
Quite enjoyed this. We could use a Canadian star right now. In fact the sport could use a star, and one who nether gets injured or retires as a three year old. The sport is a lot more than just gambling.
I am here to see big red :)
I ride him and he’s name is Oliver

Nicest looking gray horse I've ever seen 🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@scorpioholic777 I’m so sorry. I think Izvestia was the most attractive gray I ever saw too. Such a devastating loss.
That was him? I did see the horse pulling up, but forgetting that that his rival Sky Classic

I think you can buy "tapes" from Woodbine. Not sure if they have converted those to a digital video format.
