One of the best tips I can offer when mounting LED strips is to put down a layer of aluminum foil tape before setting the strips down. It definitely helps with the "water proof" led strips that have the silicone coating on them. I learned the hard way when using the 12V 5amp power to make my white DIY shop lights brighter. After a month or so, the coating was literally turning black right over each LED. I made a desk lamp with strips recessed in an oak plank covered with a diffuser plate from an office overhead using the foil as a "maybe this will work" and haven't had a single dead pixel yet. As long as there is air flowing over them. Like the big diffuser you made should be OK. Plus with RGB leds, unless you're using one solid color at high brightness for long periods it should be good.

@@billbb7149 That is a great idea for a project and one I've actually thought about! I'll definitely put it on my to do list! Thanks again for watching!
Super awesome video! A thing you should try is this...run the strip and at the end, fold it and then ran the strip back down again, and then cut it( so it would appear as having two strips laid out in parallel but its just 1 strip) looks like you had plenty of left over to do this. This would have increased the brightness and increase the saturation of overall color.
Wow, thats awesome. The joining reminds of some of those RGB peripherals that have a plastic film over the thin diffuser to make it look like a metallic mesh
Great idea. The channeled diffuser looks like a good project to add for my DJ light shows. Astera tubes are becoming popular but crazy expensive. I like the look of those with the mesh even better.
Just stagger the joints in the sheets next time (offset the first layer and the second layer by half a sheet).. that way if there's a slight gap, there will always be at least one sheet diffusing the light at that spot👌
I was also thinking this. He even mentioned the Amazon papers were worse because he'd have to use 5 layers. That should be better. Stagger the joints on 5 layers and it should blend nicely.
Such quality content thanks!!! I am 20 and have always been interested in DIY kind of projects seen the quality you can achieve with proper tools and knowledge it's motivating :)

Hey, just wonder if there were any other good stencil paper options. They can’t ship this specific paper to we’re I live (Canada). And you said it was way better than the other things you’ve tried. Would appreciate the help. Thanks
I still have yet to find something on amazon that worked as well. I'm still looking though! In a more recent project, I used a roll of kids craft paper which worked amazing. obviosly its pretty fragile but if its in a spot where it wont be bumped, i think it would actually look better than the stencil paper because there is no seems in the paper if you use a long role. ruclips.net/video/n9LsiQARFas/видео.html Otherwise you might just need to try ordering things off amazon or looking at a local craft store for options and if they dont work, just return them. I've definitly have done a lot of that in my days trying to find things that work well! Thanks for watchng and taking the time to comment!
Turned out real nice. Good work. Word of advice about the router table though, you really don't want to hog away that much material at those depths in a single pass. 1/8"-1/4" at a time doing multiple passes. Those bits can't handle the stress of that much wood being taking away. Just looking out for your safety.
Thanks so much for watching and the feedback. That is great advice and I appreciate you looking out. That makes sense to not cut so much at a time. I'm very new so any safety advice is very much appreciated. My wife would thank you as well lol.
Incredibly beautiful results! I can't pick which one is the best, they are both so beautiful! Love the music, love the editing, awesome video from start to finish!
CM- you nailed it with the stencil idea. 2 questions: how deep did you make the dados? And my blade’s kerf is a little wide-if I wanted to make the stencils sit more snug, what do you advise?
Oh man these give me some good ideas, great video. I'm really digging the first one. I'm setting up a new rehearsal spot for my band and I will implement these awesome ideas you have come up with especially for the drum riser. Although with all that room I think I am going to double or triple down on the lights so I can get a brighter end result.

@@ChrisMaherDIY Yeah, sure! I think I didn't explain good. I would love to see if there could be a way to for example make L shaped corners... I would love to see if I can for example recreate this but having to make those turns, like doing frame diffuser. Sorry, English is not my main language :(
@@andresgsr8357 Ohhh! I understand now and I should have realized that's what you meant. I should definitely try making one that has a corner. That would be fun to try! Thanks for the idea and thanks for watching!
I like the mesh on the thinner LED bar but the overlap of the mesh would bug me a little. For the diffusers, when the stencil pieces are against each, is there a way to put thin clear tape with strong adhesive on the inside in order to have a strong seamless transition between the diffuser pieces? I guess you could possibly do the same for the mesh as well just so it doesn't overlap. Just a curious follower. Good content.
This is the first video I watched... & I have to say you are awesome dude.... Super simple & super creative.... Subscribed the channel ... Keep it up ❤️
I literally would go into arts and craft stores with a flashlight and spend hours finding any material/fabric and hold the flashlight up to it to see if it might work. Sounds like you have maybe done the same lol. Fun times!
When you make a channel like that, you need to reverse the ends of the wood and run it through from the opposite end to make a perfect center channel. Cut your slots for the Diffuser paper at an angle more close to the angle the Diffuser Paper Arcs over to the other channel for a more secure fit and to hand upside down. Cool Project!
Subscribed to your channel because you produce the best and easy to understand all your creative works. I have a request. Can you please do a crown molding with indirect light , RGB LED. Thanks
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Glad you are enjoying the videos! That is a great idea for a video and I'll for sure put it on my to do list! Thanks!!
Found your video because i want to build a Stand for my vertical mounted graphics card and wanted to include LED Strips in a way you can‘t see the single dots of the LED‘s. I think your second method will be the best for my project because i need a flat surface at the front. Only things i will change is that the stand will be out of acrylic with a black foil attached to each sind instead if the front, there i will so the same you did or i just glue the sheet to the front with some transparent glue because i don‘t have such maschines to do the cut so i could simply slide them in. Also i want it flat with the front and not like on yours that the side pieces are a bit longer. Maybe i will give an update as soon as i‘m finished my project if you or other users are interested in it because i think there are other people out there trying to do the same thing because there are no stands available for many pc cases and if you have a heavy graphics card like RTX 3090 you definitely need a stand when mounting it vertically :)
Your idea sounds epic!! Thanks so much for watching and the comment. I would love to see your progress and finished results! Keep me posted if you can!
Hi, do you think the hobby lobby paper will work inside of the smaller aluminum channels to help with diffusion? Mainly concerned about heat of the leds close to the paper. Thanks!
It will certainly help! However if the diffuser is really shallow, there might not be anything you can do to get rid of hotspots. Doesn't hurt to try! I wouldn't be too worried about the heat. In my experience the leds dont really get that hot.
I want to mount led strips to an exterior roof gable, with each leg being 16ft. Would the second channel you made be able to span 16ft without splitting the wood? I want to mount each leg in one piece lifting them in place.
I plan on hanging something like this on my walls, what should I do/use to connect diffusers around the corners? I have an openish floor apartment so some corners stick out and others stick in
Corners might be tough with this design! I would probably just butt them up as close together as you can and see how it looks. If it doesn't look good, then I would probably just try to come up with some diy option (which I cant think of anything at the moment lol) Thanks for watching!!
Great video... I want to install such rgb strip led in my room as well can you explain how to add those designs km the ceiling or fit them into the wall...?? Also if anyone from India reads this do you know where we can get this type of machines for woodwork...??
I would just screw them into the wall or ceing before adding the diffuser material. The diffuser material should stay put on the wall. You might have to find a way to secure it if you have it on the ceiling upside down. At least on the first design!
Thanks!! Corner floor lamp if you have the LEDs facing the wall would be pretty simple. It could be as easy as putting some LEDs on a 1 x 2 inch board with a very shallow groove cut out to put the LEDs in. Then maybe just build some legs that sit on the floor at a 45° angle. I might have to attempt making something now that I'm thinking more about it! Thanks for getting my wheels turning lol.
Thanks so much for watching! You can certainly do that but the difference I think would be so minimal I'm not even sure lf it would be worth the time/money.
Yeah if you run them for long periods of time and have them on full brightness, that would be best to use some heat absorbing backing. I run mine pretty low so I've never had any issues with them heating up. Thanks for the great advice!
lol very true! If you don't have the equipment or access to equipment my recommendation would be just to use a circular saw (i think some stores have them for 30 dollars). The first idea in the video would be super easy to do with just a circular saw and the second idea you could do the same thing but use 3 pieces of wood instead of one and again use the circular saw to make the groove.
I think people forget that there’s a difference between DIY and life hack. Of course you’ll need the tools and equipment to do something DIY. DIY won’t ever be as easy as just buying it already made lol The idea is that if you purchase the tools and make that investment then you can build even more DIY projects.
If you're thinking of doing a led project and you want to extend the life of your LEDs, I highly recommend putting your LEDs in or on aluminium profile for the best cooling and fire rating. I'm basically saying if you stick your LEDs to wood or plastic, you increase your chances of setting your house on fire. only unexperienced people do this👍.
Thanks so much for watching and I agree Aluminum profiles would be the best option! Luckily I have yet to have any issues with led's not working or getting hot. I'm always surprised at how cool to the touch the leds are even after being on for a while!
Your channel is a blessing for such diy designs man. But most of these products aren't available in india. We just get basic led lights and no type of diffuser is available here. Either you have to buy expensive readymade stuff or you forget about diy'ing. We aren't able to do much with these things. But still saving your videos for future and looking forward for the time when we'll also be able to do such stuff. God bless!! :)
If I remember correctly I used 2 different LED strips and the ones that I used each had their own power source. If you are wanting to connect multiple strips to a power source, this video at the 2:40 mark I kindof go into the details of connecting multiple strips to a power source: ruclips.net/video/rIbTzUD2E4k/видео.html
This is some amazing piece of work! 😍I tried accessing the stencil sheet link but wasn't able to open. May I know what's the dimension of the stencil sheet and its thickness? Looking to build my own in the near future! 😇
Thanks for watching and that sounds like an awesome idea. You could for sure incorporate something like this in table legs. Let me know how it turns out if you go for it!
Keep up the good work! Your videos are very inspirational. Using the stencil paper as a diffuser is pure genius. The link to the stencil paper is dead. It will probably have a different name in my country, so which paper did you use exactly? Hopefully i can translate it to something my local shop understands. I'm always looking for new ways to diffuse leds. Beside the cheap led profiles from aliexpress, I found you can also use PVC pipe & those gulfy pipes you use for the dishwasher also give a cool lighting effect!
Thanks so much!! My guess is the link might not work outside of the USA. Those are great ideas! I'll have to give them a try. Thanks again for watching and the great suggestions!!
I didn't use glue since the bend of the stencil paper applied enough pressure on the sides to keep it in place. However, glue certainly wouldn't hurt. Just test it out without glue first and if it moves around too much then use it. Great question and thanks for watching!
Lol yeah easy is a very relative term. Some could do this in their sleep and others would not even attempt a project like this! I started doing wood stuff for the first time about a year ago. Its definitely a fun hobby! thanks so much for watching!
Hey! Maybe a weird question, but ive always been wondering if you can still use the rest of the LED lights for different items or do you need to buy new ones?
Great question and one that I would have not been able to answer a couple months ago! You can use the leftovers. It would just require you to buy some sort of power supply and controller which can vary in price.
@@jelleraffel5 Its going to depend on what LED Strips you are using. Some require 12v power supply and some 5v. Here is an awesome video that walks you through the basics that I watched and helped me understand a little more (i'm still new at this so there are so many people out there that know a lot more than i do) ruclips.net/video/j15pjU3YZfg/видео.html

This gives me old youtube video vibes with the music, great video, need to give this a try
Thanks buddy! Appreciate the support and glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
That's a great idea! I didn't even think of doing that! Thanks so much for the comment and thanks for watching! Appreciate the support!
Im so happy That i found this video with a nicer diffuser then in a shop!

Thanks for watching and the comment! The only thing I consistently lose my patience with is MN Vikings football lol
Wow, thats awesome. The joining reminds of some of those RGB peripherals that have a plastic film over the thin diffuser to make it look like a metallic mesh
Thanks so much for watching! Yeah that sounds very similar! It's definitely fun experimenting with different materials and ideas! Thanks again!
I now know what my new project will be with my left over dreamcolor govee lights. Cool beans I love this stuff
Thanks for watching buddy! It's definitely a fun little weekend project!!
Great idea. The channeled diffuser looks like a good project to add for my DJ light shows. Astera tubes are becoming popular but crazy expensive. I like the look of those with the mesh even better.
Thanks!! I'm glad you liked the project. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
Just stagger the joints in the sheets next time (offset the first layer and the second layer by half a sheet).. that way if there's a slight gap, there will always be at least one sheet diffusing the light at that spot👌
I should definitely try that! Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching buddy!
I was also thinking this. He even mentioned the Amazon papers were worse because he'd have to use 5 layers. That should be better. Stagger the joints on 5 layers and it should blend nicely.
These videos keep getting better and better

The way you cut is satisfying

These look great. Maybe my next project for my office!

The idea that i could use stencil paper as a diffuser is really helpful. Thank you. But you should have tested it seperately to see the luminosity.

Keep it up ❤️
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for the sub! Appreciate the support!
I think the black mesh is a very nice accent!
They look great, think I prefer the 1st one but both look great.
Thanks so much for watching! I also think I like the first one better. provides a little more light and easier to make!
Have been trying different materials as diffusers including some fabric or canvas types. Good to find out what worked here. Thanks
Love the idea and tips! Thanks so much for watching. I appreciate it buddy!

Great video man! Finding solid diffusers always sucks
It certainly does!! Thanks for watching buddy! Love your channel and content!
Great ideas and craftsmanship! Thanks for the ideas. 👍
You are welcome and thanks for watching! I appreciate the support!
I want to mount led strips to an exterior roof gable, with each leg being 16ft. Would the second channel you made be able to span 16ft without splitting the wood? I want to mount each leg in one piece lifting them in place.
Thanks so much for watching! I'm not 100% sure but i'm pretty confident it would be able to span 16 feet just fine!

At least on the first design!
wow this turned out -nova- stellar
Wow..👍👍 both lights look good👍
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video and thanks for watching!
Great video. Any suggestions on how to make this a floor corner lamp?
I know what my next room project is!! Thanks great video
You are welcome and thanks for watching! I appreciate the support!
Quick question:
Would you recommend painting the inside of the diffuser white or using aluminum tape since it’s reflective?
Thanks so much for watching! You can certainly do that but the difference I think would be so minimal I'm not even sure lf it would be worth the time/money.
U r the best soon we will see 1m sub
But u have add heat think in led strip back for long life wood make the led chip so hot
Thanks so much!! Maybe one day! I appreciate the suppport!
Yeah if you run them for long periods of time and have them on full brightness, that would be best to use some heat absorbing backing. I run mine pretty low so I've never had any issues with them heating up. Thanks for the great advice!

I can buy a lot of Nanoleafs with all the equipment you used to build your DYI LED strip diffuser....
lol very true!
But its original tho
or make friends him and bring a 6pack of his favorite beer

God bless!! :)

What did you use to connect the two led strips to 1 transformer? I need to connect 3 ends to one transformer / power source.
If I remember correctly I used 2 different LED strips and the ones that I used each had their own power source. Hey did you use any glue when tucked paper in? I'm about to do same thing but not sure if the diffuser won't come out without glue or something.
I didn't use glue since the bend of the stencil paper applied enough pressure on the sides to keep it in place. However, glue certainly wouldn't hurt. Just test it out without glue first and if it moves around too much then use it. Great question and thanks for watching!
