Facts
I had about 10 Govee products in my home office, and was annoyed at how long it would take to change the overall room color, and how hard it was to go back. After watching all of Chris' videos, I replaced all of that with homemade ESP 32 boards, my own led strips, etc just as he does, and am so much happier. Really great DIY content!!

Thanks so much for watching! I agree! They both have a very different look! That is a great idea! I'll maybe have to try doing that and see how it looks. Wouldn't be that hard to rig up. You could also then just control the front and back separately so you could still only have 1 side on if you would like!

I just got 2 of the Govee M1 Led strips for Christmas (Thanks to you for posting about them) and am super excited to build some custom projects like you do. Electrical work scares me at the moment so the plug and play of the M1 is perfect for me. I'm planning on making a 5 foot "tube light" to be mounted on the wall and most of the design for it is inspired from your previous projects. Keep it up, Chris!

When I was first starting out, one thing I always tried to do is make sure to do the project within the return/exchange window of items I purchased. That way if things didn't work out or I messed up, I could always return things for a refund. Takes off some of the financial pressure of making sure you get things right the first time!

This is a great little lamp. I think I would make the base big enough to hide the ESP inside the lamp base, even though I know it may bot be best for WiFi signal. There is another project called QuinLED Dig-Uno that would work perfectly with this lamp setup as it provides fuse protected power lines to the LED's and comes with ESP board.
Really simple, yet effective lamp made out of cheaply available items. Thanks for sharing yoru design!.
Yep, I'm thinking about making a few of these, but using DigUnos and tucking them in the bases.

I initially was planning on doing that but I probably would have had to make the base a little bigger so I ended up just putting all the wires on the outside and hiding them behind the media console. The Dig-Uno boards are awesome! Cant go wrong with them!!

For the backgrounds, I just basically search on youtube for either Lofi, synthwave, or 8 bit lofi and find a cool background that they put to music. Lofi is always great background music to have on and there are so many cool backgrounds they have on some of those channels!

No way! I was actually thinking of doing this, with the same idea for the design of the base. Yours look great! Now I don't need to think too hard about how to achieve the look.
I'm wondering, if I buy aluminum angles from a local hardware store, if the lack of diffuser will matter if I'm only facing it toward the wall.
Thanks so much for watching! Thats awesome! If you didn't want to have the light source every facing directly at you then I don't think you would need a diffuser at all. You could also probably get away with 30 leds per meter as long as its at least 2 or 3 inches away from the wall if I had to guess.

1) Can you share the dimensions/height of all the wooden bars?
2) Have you tried some similar other LED strips, but 12 volts instead of 5? I think 12 volts will be better if there are some huge distances between room corners.
3) I am new to RGBW-led strips. Can you explain why you use the ESP32 controller at all? What benefits it has? Can I buy some smart led strips with embedded Bluetooth/Wi-fi feature, and just connect them to a 12v power supply and use it in projects like this?
Thanks so much for watching! All of the wooden pieces I used were 1.25 inches in diameter and most were 12 inches or less in length. I think a couple of the longer ones I used might have been a little longer than 12 inches. You could for sure use 12v led strips instead. I really enjoy using WLED to control the lights and installing that program onto the esp32 device is very easy to do and not very expensive but you could just get any led controller that you wanted and use a 12v option if you would prefer that. You just have to make sure the led strips that you use are 12v as well and that the controller supports 12v led strips. (most of them do) Thanks again!

Nice build Chris! Very creative! If I remember correctly, you said that the V channel diffusers didn't have end caps. What did you do at the top of these, just leave them open?
Thanks as always Will for watching and taking the time to comment! These V channels do come with some end caps. You can either do the end cap with a hole for wires or they have an end cap with no hole. For this project I used the one without a hole in it!

I agree with most of the time it’s here, but this is one of my favorite channels for LED inspiration projects. I wanted to know if you had both of those lamps using the same ESP controller or were they individually controlled by different controllers?
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words! Both lamps are running from the same esp controller. I actually just have them connected in parallels which means I just split the data signal coming from the eps device so that both lamps are doing the exact same thing!

Is there anything to worry about cable lengths between the esp and the further light? E.g. cable resistance that could lead to data signal problems or overheating wires?
Thanks so much for watching and great question! So I did connect about 7 feet of cable from the one lamp to connect it to the other and so far no problems in terms of data signal getting to the lamp (i was expecting to need to use a resistor but was kind of surprised that I didn't have to) Also, so far no issues with anything heating up at all. Things are running smooth and are cool to the touch!

Here is what it looked liked up until recently: ruclips.net/video/JjTBYtAYjAQ/видео.html I pretty much ran out of room, so I took everything from that video down and I'm starting over (what you watched in the floor lamp video is what things now look like) so that I have places to put new projects. I did do some under cabinet lights in the kitchen and some lights in the bedroom as well as the Govee T2 in the living room but those are all more out of sight vs the things I have set up downstairs. Anyways, long answer but thanks again for watching and hope you had a great Christmas!
Great video as always Chris. I kinda would have hoped you also would have put the controller etc in the foot of the lamp so only the power cable to the power brick would come out. Perhaps also give the LED tube a touch of paint and / or use veneer to make it look entirely from one material.
But again just ideas. I love the video and how it looks.

I see you have links to LEDs on Amazon, but are these the ones you used? What is the LED / meter you are using to not have any hotspots?
Thanks for watching! Yeah those are the ones I used for this project. They have 60/leds per meter. The amazon link should take you to the exact ones but the AliExpress links are not as good and only take you to the main led strip page but then you would still have to choose the led density and ip rating I believe.

One question I do have is type of power supply. I know you linked the one you used in this video, but if I used the entire 5 meter strip what th same power supply suffice?.

Thanks so much for watching and glad they have been helpful! So I would probably use the same power source for the entire 5m strip and get things connected and see how things look and function. If your not running the lights at full brightness or full white, you probably would not even need to do power injection. But I would try it with no power injection at different settings, see how it looks and then go from there. If I were to do two five meter strips, I would more than likely go with a bigger one but never hurts to just test things out and see how things look before going bigger!

What do you do to mount/hide the esps to your projects?? I’ve been starting to do some in my own way and been curious as to what the wiring looks like in the final pics and videos
Thanks so much for watching and great question! So I really dont have a desire to put things behind the wall which at least for me is just something I dont want to take the time to do. So without doing that, options are honestly pretty limited. Usually I just hide everything behind something in the room. In this video all the wires and esp device and power is just behind the center console. You could use Govee strips for sure! The Govee M1 is the only one that will look spotless in these diffusers if you have them facing towards you. If you just have them pointed at the wall, any strip with at least 30 leds per meter should be just fine!
What is the difference in using the ESP32 controllers vs the new Domestic Automation LLC controller?
Link for the V channel is not right. And I can’t find the flat back v channel like the one you used on their page either.

Great tutorial. Did you use 2 ESP32 for the floor lamps right? How many led strips can a ESP32 handle?
I haven‘t test it right now, but theoretically you can copy the Data-Signal (green Wire) with a Wago-Connector as much as you like… so you can use one ESP for two Lamps… the only limitation is your Power Supply and the strips should have the same number of LEDs

So for this I just am using 1 esp32 and like Cplex2501 mentioned, I'm just splitting the data signal from the esp so that both lights will be doing the exact same thing at the same time. In your second question, If you do it this way (splitting the data signal) you would want to use the same led strip and would not want to have 1 strip be ws28121b and the other sk6812.

Thanks so much for watching buddy! So the wood was probably about 15 dollars. The diffuser channels cost about 60 dollars but thats for 6, 1meter lengths. The LED lights were about 50 dollars for 16 feet. Controller was 18 dollars for a pack of 3. Power supply was about 20 dollars. So its pretty expensive if you are buying everything just to make 1 lamp but at least for me, I'll be able to use all the extra things in other projects so its not like the extra stuff is going to waste. I made to lamps each 90 leds and i connected it to one esp 8266 same as in your video with external power supply now it’s the question in Wled Led preferences i need to set it to 90 leds or 180 because i have 2x90leds or i need to set 90 leds because it is connected parallel to one esp. and a second question which power i need to setup? Bz default its 850mAh. Thank you so much
Thanks so much for watching and great question! So if you split the data coming off the esp device (connected in parallel, then in the led preferences you would set it to 90. And as far as power setup, I generally only have the brightness limiter set to around 3000mA max since that get more than bright enough in my opinion! Thanks again!

I like the animations better on this DIY but the Lyra has sound react animations (you could set up sound react animations on the DIY but would require a little different setup with a mic) But the Lyra also has the dreamview syncing feature where you can have it react to the colors that are on the TV.

They are not what I would consider to be spotless (they are very very close but not quite perfect) but you cant go wrong with the product. Love them!
How many complete lights could run off of one controller and power supply?
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Here is some information from WLED in terms of number of LEDs they recommend using: kno.wled.ge/features/multi-strip/#:~:text=For%20good%20performance%2C%20you%20can,a%20total%20of%204000%20LEDs.
Also the other thing that will make all the difference in terms of power is how bright you want them. You can run a lot more leds at lets say 25% max brightness than you can at 100% brightness. I usually run mine at about 25% since that is even sometimes too bright to look at depending on the colors your using.

Hey Chris, I did everything, and I have gotten no LEDs to light up. I am getting power to the ESP32 with WLED, so I know the power works, and I resoldered the joints to make sure. I am using 60 LEDs. I think I am going to try 30 lets see if that helps. I might have to return the LEDs I might have DOA.
OKAY SO am looking at this build list and the power supply is different from the one I purchased is the Solding video "JOVNO 5V 15A Adapter, 100-240V AC to DC 5 Volt 15 Amp 75W Power Supply, 12A 10A 9A 8A Converter RGB LEDs Driver 5.5x2.5mm Tip 7.5ft Cord for Christmas Lights WS2812B WS2811 WS2813 SK6812 LED Strips"
Does this matter or is it to much Amps going through the Leds. Gonna buy the Powersupply linked in this video to see if that's the issue. I hope I didn't burn the LEDs out.
I'd say before you try anything else, in WLED under config and led preferences make sure next to the gpio section you put the pin number you used for data. I always use d2 so I put 2 in that section. It used to default to 2 after installing WLED but lately I noticed it defaulted to 16 so I now sometimes have to go in and change it the first time after a flash. If that doesn't work, make sure your GND from the esp, power supply and led strip are all common. Let me know if that works as those are the first 2 things that came to mind to check.

Has anyone managed to find wide V-channels like these muzata ones in the UK? UK Amazon is very low of stock on most Muzata products and the rest seem to be small channels and hence not spotless

Thanks so much for watching! I just used my miter saw but you could just use a regular hand saw. I purchased the wood that was already cut down to size in the blocks. I just had to make the simple cut to get the blocks to the length I wanted.

I will be making a pair of left and right audio vu meters using an esp 32 module and wled sound react installed on it with ws2812b led strips.
The videos I have watched on this topic all use a microphone as the audio input. I wish to use a 3.5mm stereo jack as the audio input for the esp 32 and send a low voltage signal from the line out of my stereo receiver to it.
I would really appreciate it if you could reply to my comment and guide me in doing this. I don't have a clue as to doing this.
If you could show me a link to a video or schematic on how to do this for the esp 32 I would be eternally grateful. I have not found anything on this topic on the internet.
