Nintendo Switch Online's Expansion Pack is still rough around the edges, but could this Ocarina of Time graphical update be a sign of good things to come?

I only noticed just before uploading this video that I pause an awful lot here. Like I use this weird halting rhythm for a lot of it. Not sure why, I guess it's just where my mind was and I didn't notice I was doing it. I'm dearly hoping it doesn't annoy people like it's annoying me LOL (watch at 1.50x speed if so, that's what I'd do)
Ooga booga
Lol
Good to knkw
It's fine!
Arlo, I have a really important question. Are you not doing news roundups anymore?
10:05 “Here in the Nintendo fandom, we take what we can get!”
Yup, that’s accurate.
Sometimes it is shameful, but when they’re not making minor fog fixes they’re making great games so, can’t complain.
WWWWWAAAAAYYYYY TO ACCURATE
Eh, Nintendo still makes some of the greatest games every generation so I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration. I get the sentiment tho.
@@schwa4883 making games, and fixing problems?
Problems usually persist for way too long, and most of their great games are at least 10 years old at this point.
I
f they spent most of their time fixing problems and making great games, Metroid Prime 4 would be finished by now (or at the very least a functional test build would exist), They also would have found the dev tools for the prime trilogy, and released a port or remaster.
Nintendo either makes the best games, or the most mediocre ones. and will 100% of the time make dumb business decisions
While I do hope this becomes bigger, the fact that it’s only a glimmer really doesn’t have me holding my breath.
That is what “glimmer” means. Small.
Ya it would pretty WILD to expect more
The main problem for me is still something I don't see them changing, which is the painfully slow rollout of games for the service they've decided to do. Adding only one N64 game a month means it will take them a year or more to finally add all the games people want to play. They added Banjo-Kazooie, which is great, but now how many months/years is it going to be until they add Banjo-Tooie, if they add it at all?
The end of this video made me realize we need an Arlo video ranking all the Paper Mario partners
Watt is literally the most useful partner for the final boss, in my opinion... Mario is so much more powerful than partners by then that you're better off pumping all your FPs into Mario's turns, and Watt can either make Mario even stronger or deal passable damage without spending a single FP.
I was considering using a d-down badge+bow to deal consistent damage with fan smack but it may be more efficient to use watt like you mentioned.
yeah. I used Watt for the final battlle, and since I forgot to equip any strong attack badges, she was my only decent attacker
I personally love using Bow when im running a Danger/Peril Mario badge build. She completely protects you from any damage and pairing that with danger mario and you're unstoppable.
Lol my strat as a kid was goombario, cuz you could charge him up however long you want and then use multibonk. It takes forever but always worked
Of course you don't get the best partner right away. The battles would be too easy. 😂 Gotta get them stars first.
For me, it's always been the defense-bypassing partners, those being Watt and Vivian, Watt is just so so cute, and I do like her abilities, and I could say the same thing about Vivian as well.
Exactly! Everyone else either gets stopped by armor or requires too much FP. I love Bombettes explosions, but Watt was always the one I used once I got her.
@@PhazonOmega I just use d-down pound for high defense enemies, but hey, I'm only in chapter 4, that might not work later
@@guusthomassen9945 D-Down pound is a very mediocre badge in my opinion, there aren't many situations in which a D-Down Pound is more effective than a D-Down Jump. All of the Quake hammers also pass through Defence and overall I would focus more on Boosting Marios power rather than passing through defence. That's just me though
Ms Mowz is the defence passing partner in TTYD
I thought the defense bypassing partner was Ms Mowz.
This is actually what I suspected Nintendo would do after hearing Modern Vintage Gaming do a short recap history video on Nintendo's internal emulation work, how they had one key Nintendo of America employee who created dedicated emulators in his freeform/experimental time at work for running N64 games on the GameCube.
It's how we got the Zelda Collector's Edition and Ocarina of Time Master Quest on the GameCube. His emulator work would be upgraded for the Wii and WiiU and it runs the two's Virtual Console implementation of N64 games as well. After the WiiU launched however, he left the company, and Nintendo was left with a problem. The emulator he built was dedicatedly programmed and optimized to run on Dolphin architecture underneath the hood of the GameCube, Wii, and WiiU. They wouldn't be able to use that emulator forever since they could not guarantee they would always use a dolphin-derived system. So they would have to rebuild a new type of emulator from scratch that is hardware independent rather than optimized for a specific hardware build.
Now, obviously, it's likely (knowing Nintendo) they won't spend the same degree of work on this emulator that their retired employee did (since for him it was a passion project), but I am betting they will continue with a few more updates at least.
Thanks for the history. That’s interesting
Holy shit. Billion dollar company folks!
The Wii U N64 emulator isn't based on the Wii one it's a brand new one from iQue Engineering, and it's the same emulator that got on Switch with upgrades... and downgrades.
@@babystacks Sorry sir, criticizing nintendo is against the law. I must escort you off the premises.
So basically they’re just lazy and don’t wanna put the time into making quality emulators for their own games, sounds about right
If they ever bring GameCube games to NSO, I bet that they’re going to be separate downloads.
Also give us Virtual Boy, Game Boy, Color, and Advance games.
All the emulators have been separate downloads. You can use the service but not download the emulator
The only Virtual Boy game anyone wants is the Wario Land one, and even then i think people would prefer a remake with Gameboy graphics.
@@EnigmaticGentleman Jack Bros is pretty good as well.
Depends on what they do with the ISO. If you've ever emulated GCN you know the disc images are all the same size and padded out with junk space to make discs more reliable. Some games are incredibly small when you eliminate that junk, such as Luigi's Mansion but even games like that are still the size of dozens of N64 games.
In other words, yeah, probably individual downloads.
@@EnigmaticGentleman TeleroBoxer I think is underrated, Mario Clash is interesting, But most of all, I want Bound High to release officially for the first time, if Nintendo ever did a Virtual boy NSO thing.
(For those who don’t know, Bound High was a canceled Virtual boy Project that never officially released, though it’s ROM leaked online. It was Fully completed, but was canceled due to the Virtual Boy’s disastrous sales.)
Read “hope” and “NSO” in the same title and instantly tapped
The title could have read "No hope for NSO", but this video isn't about that.
Saw Toon Link as your avatar and instantly tapped the thumbs up. 😆
It’s Like an oxymoron
Same here
There is no hope for NSO
This isn't even a non-implemented issue. The fog is present on any other game, and if you inject a OOT ROM with a different game ID the fog comes in. They very specifically turned off fog for OOT.
Just like they very specifically added lag to the game over screen in Paper Mario. It's this added lag that causes the crash and save data loss. And both changes don't seem to improve the game at all, as they can be removed without issue. But they purposely added bugs anyway
More like they specifically messed up the emulation of OoT
Maybe it has to do with visual quality? 🤔 They changed it to look nicer without thinking about specific areas?
i love that even though there are so many problems with Nintendo, Arlo is still trying to be positive and optimistic
I felt in my bones the “We Nintendo fans TAKE WHAT WE CAN GET!” 😂😅
*sigh*
Nobody cares about quality anymore. Can’t blame the businesses cuz consumers also don’t 😅
I won’t I’m not paying a yearly fee for this.
I appreciate the endless optimism from your channel, I really do. However, in this case I feel you might be celebrating this too early. Yes, it's good to acknowledge the positive step in the right direction for one game (I don't know if others have changed as well), but realistically speaking, none of this should have happened, and if it did, it should have been fixed as soon as they realized it was broken. Nintendo is a very wealthy company, it's not like they don't have the resources to fix this, and all of NSO for that matter.
Also, I've never finished the first Paper Mario, but my favorite so far is Bombette
Good point, but celebrating too early doesn’t have much to do with what should’ve happened, instead with what’s gonna happen.
nintendo will really have to add value to their NSO product that will justify me paying them anything. they'll need an outstanding product to compete with emulations that are out now beyond "this is the legitimate way to play"
Finally, something reasonable. Not too negative, not positive either. The perfect blend.
If they have every single n64 game id buy it. You know there gonna roll it slow as hell when they could be doing like 5 a month. Also look at how they abandoned nes and snes online after the anounced n64 even though we still dont even have games like eathbound
How do I play emulations?
@@schwa4883 negative good
@@BrutallyHonestRevs i mean i never thought they would add every game just wanted it. There’s only 300 something games on the Nintendo 64 so I think Nintendo could buy the rights to the third-party ones if they wanted
I've been playing OoT all afternoon and yes the input lag has been fixed.
Bow is hilarious, and powerful, and the overworld ability is fun. Same goes for Koops. I don't know if I could pick between the two.
Koops was the thousand year door koopa.
I like Koops. I like shooting that shell out to grab faraway stuff or to get a quick hit on enemies.
Specifically on the first game, Watt & Bow. Watt's defense piercing's, attack buffs and paralysis saved me a bunch alongside Bow's Outta Sight. Smack & Fan Smack too for being multi hits, but mainly Outta Sight. Character wise, they're also considerably up there, Bow at least from what I remember (will probs replay PM64 at some point soon)
You definitely should, it's seriously a great game! I'd recommend it to absolutely everyone.
The modding scene is getting pretty good for paper mario as well. Pro mode is a good way to play it that adds some challenge, but isn't too unforgiving. There's also black pit, dark star, master quest jr, a Christmas special, and several others in the works.
Maybe at this rate it'll be a proper emulator by the time the expansion pack becomes worth the price. If it ever gets there, that is.
It's such a long way off though.
@@tams805 Just like an expansion pack actually worth $50.
I suspect that Nintendo assigned very few of their employees to work on the NSO expansion. This isn't a case of Nintendo not listening or individual workers not doing their best. Nintendo is probably just being cheap, and I bet that bringing even one or two more people into the project would benefit it immensely.
I feel that it’s taken way too long for this minor amount of progress. If the issue is in fact so much harder than the teams had imagined it needs to be publicized at least. But the issue ultimately becomes… there are so many problems that need addressing Nintendo could be addressing them for the remaining future I fear.
Thank you for sharing the clip of JCog! We need more people to know about the Paper Mario speedrunning community!
I learned from one of your Patreon podcasts that you are a carer for a family member. That's more responsibility and work than the vast majority of people on the internet will ever know, and my respect for you has grown a lot having learned it. Would be interesting to hear more about that if you ever feel comfortable enough to share it.
Watt is legitimately my favourite party member. From both a mechanical and story perspective. Lakilester is a close second.
Seeing that small update to the reflections in the water temple makes me think how long it'll take for them to actually fix the reflections and fog. Its nice to see there's some amount of effort put into fixing this stuff. I can't say I'm tempted to play lesser versions of the same games.
If within the next four to five months they fix most of the issues with the games they have up I can see myself giving it a go but if ten months pass and they release an update where the most noticeable difference is now there is fog in the shadow link room but not as much fog as the original so it looks a bit better but still not as good as a Nintendo 64 game that came out in 1997 I don't think I'll care to keep up with the service.
I hope it gets better.
For me it's Goombario, I like knowing the enemies hp and knowing a little more about each area
Thank you for the lovely news update Arlo :)
I agree, I will take ANY glimmer of positive news I can get.
*Nintendo:* We're just figuring out how emulation works, okay?
*Fans:* Bro, we had this figured out in the 90's.
According to the guy from Modern Vintage Gamer, Nintendo probably never cared. He explained that the Wii VC was done by only one American developer, and it was as close as it could get. But when that guy left, VC didn't get good anymore.
Sometimes I have to actually remind myself that Arlo is not actually standing in his recording studio. That he is, in fact, a puppet, and all the background paraphernalia is just there to make it LOOK like he’s not just a puppet. And then, I appreciate him even more
Bombette is my favorite paper Mario partner in that game, but Vivian is the best in the series
Vivian is probably my favorite from TTYD, and for the original Paper Mario I would say Bow.
confirmed: arlo CAN wink, he just chooses not to
It's funny that you mentioned the Watt crash because I genuinely didn't know that's why my game crashed. I died to the Mt. Lavalava boss while using Watt, and it was just my luck that I decided to go for the "authentic experience" and not use the save states. So I legit had to go through the entire Mt. Lavalava area a second time. And why did I lose at the boss in the first place? Oh, only because THE ENTIRE BOSS FIGHT WAS LAGGING LIKE HELL, AND MY INPUTS WERE DELAYED AT LEAST A GOOD FULL *SECOND*!!! Keep in mind, this is my first time playing this game. I've gotten to the Puff Puff boss and I just can't push myself to keep playing. Banjo Kazooie is even WORSE thanks to the lack of button mapping. I literally have to stop in place for a second just to perform most of the game's core techniques. Even if there are tiny glimpses of hope, I haven't had a great experience so far with the service.
This is fucking ridiculous, 1 second of input lag?? FOR A N64 GAME
It was my first time playing the OG Paper Mario and I loved it! Bow is definitely my favorite partner, but I also really like Bombette and Kooper. They are all good frankly but Watt is pretty weak in battle.
Its mostly a support and its default attack ignores def.
Oh yeah, Bow and Kooper are my favorites! And Sushi!
Watt is good because he… she? They (their gender changes switches even within the game text) ignore defense when attacking. But I still never used them 🙃
Watt is really good for the General Guy battle(probably obviously), the Kent C. Koopa battle, and the Bowser battle. Ignoring defense is pretty handy for bosses, which makes Bow pretty useless for some bosses.
Also good for fights with Koopatrols
Oh, but yeah Watt can crash your game, so I guess avoiding using them is probably ideal
Mega Shock (Watt's ultra rank move) is absolutely busted. Status in general is busted.
The original Paper Mario was my favorite on the 64, glad you had a great time!
I now know why I lost about 3-4 chapters worth of progress on my game. Thank you for that info Arlo. And to answer your question, I am playing the original Paper Mario for the first time. Or at least I was until the massive progress loss made me so angry I stopped playing for a while.
Sorry to hear that man
Finally got the expansion pass to play Banjo-Kazooie and almost immediately ran into an emulation issue. In Treasure Trove Cove, what was supposed to be the way to find Honeycomb took me forever to find. The Honeycomb floating on a crate in the water, which was real easy to find in the N64 version, was completely invisible unless you are practically in top of it. Some of the emulation issues are ignorable but issues line the one I encountered actually affect gameplay. Hopefully they’ll get better emulation with time.
Wonderful to see improvement on NSO. To answer the important question, I've always liked Kooper and Bow.
Bow is freaking adorable ❤
You know I'm right.
Definitely either Bombette or Bow. It's so difficult to choose!
Nintendo: Does the bare minimum
Us: AWWWW YESSSSS
My favourite partner is Goombario.
Not because of his fighting abilities but because of Tattle. The best aspect of Paper Mario for me is its little world and its story and Tattle expands that by a lot. I use Tattle in every new location, on every character and on every enemy even in my 100th play trough because I love to read about all the small details.
Such an amazing ability ♥️
I am a complete simp for nintendo and I'll completely admit that, and my first reaction too was "yay they're fixing it!" But then I thought, wait.... did they try and fix OOT, or did they just update the emulator for Banjo and fix something for that which fixed Zelda by mistake... I hope it's the former but the later is exceptionally funny to me
Favourite partners? Easy:
64: Bow
TTYD: Yoshi kid
Super (it counts): Carrie
These guys were my most consistently used in these games by a landslide, and I have no shame in that.
I like Bow and Watt. Bow has the best personality (which, I imagine, is why she got a cameo in TTYD) and does _incredibly_ solid damage when fully powered-up, and Watt has both the best and most frustrating field ability (I love exploring and it's nice to reveal the hidden blocks, but it bugs me that I need to use Watt everywhere for that), as well as the most reliable damage due to flat-out ignoring defense. Turbo charge makes Power Bounce all the more silly, too.
You are so good at that, man. You put so much life into that sack of blue fur that it blows my mind. I wanted to be you in grade school. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for puppets/muppets.
Shoutouts to Goombario stacking up a million atk power and just nuking bosses
I first played Banjo-Kazooie on Xbox 360, so I was looking forward to playing the original version when it came to NSO, and from what I could tell, it actually plays like a dream, even with the Switch emulator. Granted, I've never played it on original hardware, or even on Project64, so if anyone wants to prove me wrong, feel free
I say it's more encouraging if it's a tiny/aesthetic thing like the fog. Imagine what it means for the game breaking stuff like the Watt crash!?
The crash doesn't have the same massive outrage that the fog had though, so this feels more like damage control rather than a real desire to improve the service.
Favorite Paper Mario character has to be baby yoshi from Thousand Year Door. Getting a baby yoshi with a mohawk that did so much damage was one of the coolest feelings ever for me when I was a kid. From Paper Mario 64 I'd have to go with Kooper. Im not sure why, but seeing a Koopa with a blue shell and bandana around the neck wanting to be your partner really sparked my imagination as a kid. Really every partner did that for me, I had both the Paper Mario 64 and Thousand Year Door strategy guides and I would just read them all the time.
@Arlo: To clearified the guy that explain the Paper Mario situation, the reason why it Crash when you game over with spark as your partner, in the NA version only, it was because before launch of paper mario they fix the Pal version and Japanese with their own hack because does two version would always crash during the pirahna Boss fight, if they did not add any lag, they did not know that the NA version of the game did not need a fix, so they left that fix in for the NA version and that is what cause the issue of the game crashing when game over with spark as your partner, that crash was not a save file corruption crash, it was because before the 1.2.0 update if you in-game save, and then rage quit hold the power button and press power off, since it would not close the app properly it would not keep all your in-game save, even the one from other game, if you play several game in one sitting, that would also be gone, the 1.2.0 update fix that problem so now if you rage quit, your in-game save stay saved tested by me. I did not test if they fix the crash with spark as the partner in a game over screen, I'm not going to play a really long game just to have spark as my partner, just to test to see if it is fix or not. You have to be carefull of troll out their that would claim it is an N64 online issue when they actually doing glitch skip in paper mario the wrong way it crash and does one are more likely to have in-game save file corrupted, and when they only film the part that it crash you don't know what they did before. The guy explaining the problem with paper mario that one was not a troll because he show detail information.
I was still extremely disappointed with the service at launch, Nintendo is the one company that I trust for finished games, and the fact that this was even released is very worrying to me.
*Slowly looks at the modern Paper Mario games and Pokemon if you count the latter*
Uhuh...sure...lets go with that...
Its a disease and it's going to spread farther eventually.
Me too. This could’ve been much better. I don’t have anything to say to defend Nintendo here; honestly I don’t know how this benefits anyone. We can only wait and hope for the best.
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 The latter is true, but the former is subjective. Objectively, the recent Paper Mario games (except for Sticker Star) are objectively ok, the rest is up to you.
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 The modern Paper Mario games weren't unfinished, poorly designed in some places certainly, but not unfinished (and OK was all around a decent game). Not every Nintendo game is a masterpiece like some induhviduals say, but if you look at the past few years of Triple A, even Sony is guilty of a poor product here and there. I want to be hyped about some games, but we have to worry about Nintendo games coming out unfinished now, even if it (hopefully) doesn't come true they've lost their golden record.
@@EnigmaticGentleman This is a better way of saying what I was trying to say.
Input Lag WAS reduced. When the service launched I tried to play Ocarina in handheld mode and it was "sticky" to say the least. Link would do an action a noticeable second or so after I pressed the button. After the recent patch, hand held mode Ocarina feels MUCH smoother and practically unnoticeable delay.
Ay, that’s great!
May not be the original but Bobbery was always my favorite, alongside Vivian.
Although Parakarry and Bow are both EXCELLENT and I love them both
How did you get a 12 minute video out of this and still make me feel informed and entertained?
The Watt glitch is fixed! Water temple room COMPLETLY fixed! ALL FOG PROBLEMS FIXED! ALL IN NEW UPDATE!
I played PM on Wii U a couple years back. I remember using Bow a lot because I could consistently get her strongest attack and she did a lot of damage. I know there was another one that I used a lot later in the game but I can’t remember who
A glimmer of hope would be a cheaper price
Imo either cheaper price or better service.
That would be amazing, but that’s not a glimmer of hope. That’s a bucketload.
Or a 100% free price just like Steam.
Your plant on your desk is a very rare variety and worth a lot of money, I think. It is the white patches. Look into it! Windfall!
9:29 This bit with the 69 xp and 420 coins had to be intentional and I commend whoever recorded the footage for that little detail
I must say, this is a positive direction as long as one thing stays true. There can be no new issues when we eventually upgrade to the next console.
9:29 look at the coins and star count. Nice.
thanks for the sudden "I love you" in the intro, I needed that.
Bow, Bomette, and Kooper are all pretty great.
Usually my favorite PM64 partner is Bow, but when I did my most latest playthrough I took my time to talk to every NPC and examine EVERYTHING I could, so I had Goombario for 95% of it for Tattling. And lemme tell you, it was one of the best playthroughs I've had! I found so many NPCs that had small ongoing plots I never knew about, and found that Goombario had SO much personality packed into the tattles of the areas like the desert and elsewhere.
Us Nintendo fans take what we can get - but we will still fight for what's right.
You take away our smash tournaments, scorn our Splatoon competetors, give us sad excuses for controllers, drip-feed us retro games at a snails pace, slap a high price on an expansion to an already paid subscription model, release unfinished games, cut the roster to a series that was built around having the whole roster in every game, or just give us shoddy products and\or services at all… yeah, you can be sure we're going to rise up and make ourselves heard.
My test for OoT is mashing the buttons for the Ocarina. Before the update it would drop inputs, forcing me to slow down. Now I can mash them again.
I just feel frustrated by this system in general. People say "vote with your wallet, if you don't like it, don't buy it and that will tell the company what you want." But the issue is what we want isn't just a binary this or that. I do think the service is a good idea, its just I have specific scruples with the execution. I like them adding SNES games to the service but them having earthbound is very important to me. I like that they're switching up the pokemon formula in legends arceus, but I don't think the graphical fidelity is acceptable for me. So, do I buy it? If I
do, am I encouraging them to push pokemon in a new direction, or am I telling them I'll accept the bare minimum? I just don't know. I wish they would be more open to clear, direct criticism from the fans when we give it. A question of buy, or no buy isn't enough.
that’s true especially when it comes down to being one person deciding whether or not a game will actually be fun for you despite its flaws
I hear you. It would do wonders for Nintendo's PR if they opened up an actual, continuous, permanent customer feedback department that allows them to get more detailed criticisms from the fans and show that they're paying attention by implementing changes when there are enough complaints to warrant doing so. In this age of internet access and downloadable content, we don't have to wait for a sequel to fix issues anymore; now it just takes an update patch.
The issue I have is that it's a subscription. I'd buy several in a heartbeat if I could own them on switch, but I can't.
Which is why we should be allowed to review the games even if we aren't paid by Nintendo to do so. Our opinions matter.
Yeah voting with your wallet is a lie.
There are always enabling idiots of which you only need a couple for it to stay alive and even if you're uniform, it's not even clear what the vote is for.
The truth is, if a big corporation wants to do something, it'll just do it.
I don't want to wait till I'm in my 40's for NSO to be good
I will say that as a huge Banjo Kazooie fan, that Banjo Kazooie’s emulation has been near perfect for me
After slowly but surely building up my goodwill toward them to high highs over the course of 2017-2018, Nintendo has managed to bring it all back down to that early low through 2020-2021. Damn
This is NOT something to get excited about.
I've seen this "settling for scraps" mentality from Sonic fans time and time again.
I'm not letting this compliant poison spread , NOT THIS TIME , NOT EVER AGAIN.
If Nintendo starts "rage baiting" , then we're in serious trouble.
A much better glimmer of hope is the fact that the patent on the N64 expired last year (2021). This means companies such as Hyperkin and 8BitDo can start making new machines that play N64 carts, just as they already do for the NES and Super Nintendo. Until the copyrights on the individual games eventually expire decades from now, just go with the legitimacy of companies that take advantage of expired hardware patents!
bow is good since she can use fan smack and outta sight so she's my favorite. but watt can pierce defense and do max damage as well as boost attack power which is also amazing. but with the advent of save stating, i've taken to save stating + button mashing sushie's tidal wave. crazy damage if you know what to do.
I always enjoyed chatting with Goombario whenever going to new locations and meeting new characters, also loved Lady Bow's characters and how she will literally slap the crap out of any enemies' face.
bow from the first paper Mario is my favorite in that one Vivian is my favorite over all. Just really like both their designs and stories and thought they did a great job with them.
10:05 LUL I raise my glas to that "Hear, hear!" XD
If majora’s mask has no fog, the end has been sealed for nso
I think what is so big about this small step is that it shows that Nintendo is actually listening
Or they already knew It was shit when uploading them but they had to get them out so they're fixing it now incrementally. They don't like their titles being tarnished so I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually fix everything.
@@Zaque-TV I prefer to believe that they’re actually listening. Much more comforting.
Listening? There’s a lot of simple, minimum effort things they could have done to improve this thing. How about just clear communication on their end when the additional n64 games would be coming? Or just drop them all at once? Let us know their plans for more systems?
Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if that bug was fixed as a side effect of working on other games which is still good but doesn't fill me confidence. I don't see them going back to oot and saying "I guess we'll only slightly fix this one specific thing this release".
They've finally almost caught up to where N64 emulation was on day 1 on the Wii VC.
I bought a lot of VC games on Wii, but I feel like I wasted my money when I realised they wouldn't transfer to future consoles. The Wii not having proper online accounts doesn't really allow for this, which is why they had that Wii U transfer service, where you paid a fee to get worse versions of the games you own but with the option to play them on the GamePad. I guess you got button remapping and multiple save states too.
Having to buy games separately for Wii U and 3DS was also ridiculous when they already had the account system in place. Any PS1 games you bought could be played on PS3, PSP and Vita, but Sony have also gone backwards with this since then.
It might seem kind of basic, but I really loved Goombario and Goombella in the first two games. The tattle information on enemies was handy (and sometimes funny), the infinite potential of multibonk was great, but I honestly just loved having a friendly goomba as a partner. Goombas have always been my favorite enemies, so it felt like a special treat to have friendly ones. I also really liked the goomba partners' attitude and personality too. I couldn't always use them on some enemies obviously, but I would often go out of my way to try and use them as much as possible.
I'm just amazed how Nintendo struggle to give us a good emulator just to keep us playing their games in legal way, and you have those emulator made by fans whose have made their own one. And make them as good as the orginal one I'm pretty sure they made a better job than Nintendo and because of that (It's just my thinkings nothing is official about what I'm about to say) well less player will play the NSO and instead paid less for just going for an emulator on PC for a more faithful experience.
There’s pretty much never going to be as many people emulating when an official way to play the games is around even when the official way is garbage. Take 3D All-Stars for example. Despite it being terrible compared to what fans have offered on emulators it still sold hotcakes because ultimately the large majority of consumers prefer convenience over quality. I would say about 1/4 of gamers will ever emulate in their lives and even though that is a substantial percent of the market, they are still the minority. What this means is that everyone else who will never try emulation have no choice but to buy the official releases. Nintendo knows that, which is why they put so little effort into them.
@@jinkies1649 the problems are way overstated about Mario 3D Allstars. It looks and plays great. I’ve emulated a lot in the past, and it holds up really well. If NSO worked as well, people would be raving about it (aside from the price).
The problem is that Nintendo only had one developed from the U.S. that cared. Everything started going downhill when he left at the time of the Wii U.
In Europe, NSO has the option for PAL or NTSC versions of most Nintendo 64 games. I checked The Cutting Room Floor for regional differences, but couldn't find anything substantial for the original Paper Mario, so I started playing the NTSC version because it's faster. I had no idea about the Watt glitch, ouch.
Lady Bow's definitely my favorite! (From the first game, at least. Obviously Vivian is Best Girl Forever.)
This is my first time playing Paper Mario and I’m only up to dry dry ruins but I love Kooper a lot. He is cute and useful 💙 🐢
Bow is my favorite Party member and has been for a long while.
For my first playthrough as a kid it was probably Sushi
Watt is the best partner. Her basic attack pierces defense so when Ultra-ranked she can deal 5 damage without using any FP. This comes in handy for all the shell enemies from chapter 5 onwards and especially for half of chapter 8 including the dark dungeon. I like how in that area you literally cannot fight unless she's in battle with you. Bombette is the heavy hitter for multiple targets which helps for quick battles if you have high FP plus the badge that makes more FP appear along with coins after a battle.
Arlo is the only RUclipsr who can make a sponsorship fun!
every video you make makes happy about being part of this fandom, NOT because of the company, but because i get a sense of community, great video as always Arlo, i hope your mental health is getting a little bit better
While I'm happy for the improvement (minor though it may be), the price is still ridiculously high; and that's something Nintendo could fix without a team of developers.
its less than $5 a month...
@@Billy_Souls compared to like… not even 2$ a month for normal switch online. You have to compare the options. The expansion to online simply isn’t worth 30$ more to most people, and who can blame them when the only reason to pay that money is to emulate old games poorly when if you have a PC you can do that for free, or emulate them well for free if you have a good pc.
They updated the Gamecube emulator for Super Mario All-Stars. They fixed the floating boxes and the dotted lines in the No Floor levels.
Since this update has been made to the emulator itself and not just tacked onto Ocarina of time's rom, it does give me hope for the future of this emulator, since it seems to be that update that has also allowed for the reduction in input latency At the very least I hope they have figured out whatever is going on with the fog rendering by the time majoras mask comes out next month. The game relies so much on fog for key moments that it kinda needs to be fixed for whenever they decide to release it
Side note, I'm just genuinely enjoying Arlo recommends. If it is something you enjoy doing, I very much enjoy the bite sized blog stuff that isn't... Well twitter.
You accidentally put the GameCube and Wii VC photos of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the others' section logo. I could tell because the GameCube version of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time has a red B button compared to the usual/"normal" green B button. :)
Don’t worry guys. In 6-7 years, it’ll be worth the money (maybe).
I’m sorry but I’m still not over the fact that they raised the cost by over double and then decided to release these N64 games in the state they’re in.
At the price they had, neither would I.
This video is the epitome of that meme with the gold star that says in comic sans "you tried", but with a complete lack of irony.
I would say the best partner in the OG Paper Mario is by far Bow. I haven't finished the game on NSO (but have many times on N64) and Bow was usually in my party dealing high damage to every defensiveless enemy. Her base smack at Ultra rank deals 6 damage (which is the highest you can deal with a partner for 0 FP) and her Fan smack deals a whopping 10 damage (which is the highest of any partner move asides max tidal wave from Sushie) for only 5 FP. Her best move however is Outta Sight, for 2 FP you can dodge any attack from an enemy and can still attack the next turn with Mario. this is great for Peril/Danger Mario, defeating hoardes of enemies that you cannot defeat in 1 turn, just wanting to save some HP in a battle, it's almost always useful and is the most broken move in the game (asides power bounce)
all i know about the input delay on NSO is that when i was playng Banjo-Kazooie on it the other day, it felt just fine to me. felt pretty good, even. i'm sure there IS a delay that, like, a speedrunner would pick up on, but i didn't notice anything.
the wild thing about N64 emulation, 2d UI usually glitches out. It still blows my mind OoT used to take a screen cap of the current state, and then blurred it when you went into your menu. It would feel slow, when you brought it up, but seeing it on an emulator it's SLOWER and you can see it happening. But yeah, it's better to buy 3rd dev release of N64 games then having to see the solution Nintendo has. Turok and Bathesdas Doom 64 and Quake were really wonderful ports for games that would have been difficult 20 years ago.
I’m still waiting for them to add Banjo Tooie to the service before I get it. But more importantly, Watt is my favorite party member because that ability to ignore defense is so useful. Bow and Bombette are also good in battle and Goombario is just a fun little guy.
It’s impressive how well Nintendo makes plays that can both fill us with hope and also force us to lower our expectations at the same time.
I truly do hope the emulation improvements keep coming, maybe even with each future game we’ll get a patch.
And soon, the service will go from bad to adequate.
It's the textbook definition of stockholm syndrome
In Paper Mario, I've just started it, so I couldn't say, but my favorite character so far is the little Goomba girl who finds Mario initially, Goombaria. Thought at first that she comes back in Thousand Year Door, but that's a different Goomba named Goombella, apparently. They might have been initially meant to be the same character at some point, but they are different now.
