I loved Keith Robinson's painting half-way through the competition. I think if he had just refined the eyes and then left it at that it would have been spectacular. I really think Nick Fear should have won out of those semi-finalists.
Why do they persist with this farce of painting from a live model? And why do the sitters go along with it, and pretend to sit still for four hours. All of the artists seem to be painting from a photo on their phone which is gridded up. Amazingly, they still seem to make a botch of it!
@darkdogstudios You do realize that almost all of the artists paint their self-portraits from photographs? So what's the difference when given only 4 hrs to paint a stranger's portrait?
@@Watkinsstudio your comment is of no relevance to the argument and makes no sense. They have a live model in front of them. Any competent portrait painter can work from a live model and produce a portrait in 4 hours!
This is perhaps the worst selection of paintings so far. Some were ghastly, grotesque. If I'd been one of the judges I would have scratched the skin off my scalp trying to find something positive. The actual winner was the only one with a bit of originality. But still, this programme remains one of my favourites.
R.I.P Haydn Gwynne. A really good actress!!
I adore Joan Bakewell, what a legend and national treasure
Good choice for the winner. Bravo!👏
One of the few times I actually liked the winning portrait.
Rest in Peace Haydn Gwynne, you were a wonderful actress, you’ll be remembered.
HAydn Gwynne died on 20 October, 2023, age 66, following a cancer diagnosis one month earlier.
I'm so shocked. I hadn't heard that Haydn had died. I admired her very much!! ❤
The shortlist was great - difficult to decide , I loved Grahams and Nicks paintings as well.
This show is so calming. Amazing portraits all around!

BRAVO 👏!!! The right choice 👏 👌!!!
Some of the portraits looked ridiculous.
Thank you so much. I've been waiting for this episode! Appreciate it 😊
I love these!!! Thanks for posting all of them!!!!!
Amazing video❤
Wonderful group. 😄
I think this is the first episode where I have not had an 'oh wow' favorite...
I had to look up what "Biro" was. It`s a ballpoint pen. I work in Biro all the time and didn`t know it!
Ty😊

Can't help but think runner-up at rectum of the year. #seanlock

I disagree with the winner. The artists, who can paint a pretty woman well enough, are scarce, especially on this program.
