      @@chaparralmotorsports would you say these are better in the twisties then the anakee adventure? I currently have the battleax a41's and really like their on road performance, off road they were lacking but I still finished a 140 mile big bear ADV ride in them. I'm looking for JUST a little more off road bias then the a41s

    Thanks, this is a really comprehensive test. I have these tyres as original fit on my KTM 790 but have just about worn out the first set and am considering what to fit next. I'm in the UK, and in the part of the country where I am there are very few trails to fide, so rather than 90/10 I'm more likely to be 95% on street and occasional gravel tracks. From your test I'll stick with another set of Trailriders. Deeply envious of the terrain you have to ride in your area though.

    I've been looking for a 160/60 rear "dual sport" tire for my KTM 690sm. This Avon seems like the only option and I was still on the fence. This review helped me to pull the trigger for a 53/54 set. Great review. Really appreciate the video.

      @@chaparralmotorsports I ended up getting just a rear from you guys via Ebay. 160/60r17. The front Shinko 705 has to much life left to toss. An AV53 will replace it when it finally dies. The Avon Trailrider is my new favorite tire. I will run this tire until Avon discontinues it. Can't believe how well it grabs on the street. Only had it on a few miles of maintained dirt roads so far and it does well. Great feedback makes it very controllable on loose surfaces. Working up to a COBDR trip on my supermoto adventure bike and this is the tire I will be running. Thanks again for the review.

    Great review and agree the Avons 53/54 TrailRiders are a great tire, i have covered about 3,000 miles on mine, mostly road and they still look brand new , never had one step out or feel slippery underneath. Great braking performance and they are super sticky when warmed up. I have had a few instances where come in a bit hot on a corner and they have stuck with the extra lean. Not sure i would be as comfortable with anything else - safe riding and great review

    Very good report series about ADV tires ... more practical, objective and therefore better than all the Europeans do (and I am saying this being one) ...
    This particular ATR is acc. to my experience the best tire for street and gravel (90/10 ... 80/20 category)
    I finished now one front and 2 rear tires within 30,000km (about 20,000miles) on my V-Strom 650.
    I need to say that the tarmac here in Thailand, where I live, is not very grippy and abrasive but my tires are worn from left to right shoulder so that there is constantly 2mm left when I change them.
    I would like to confirm:
    + no teething nor "cupping" until the very end
    + stick like glue on tarmac until the very end
    + very good in rain (as I live in Thailand, I therefore can report what's up 😉)
    + very comfortable damping on bad roads and on gravel
    + very stabil at high speed
    + very silent
    + good in gravel
    - rear tire a bit too soft compound (wear a bit too fast and get hurt in sharp edged gravel)
    All in all I love this tire and it fits perfect to me, driving on good and bad tarmac and on gravel only.
    The reason why this tire is not well known is because they do not spend so much money for marketing like Michelin, Dunlop, Pirelli, Bridgestone aso who really adopted things like e.g. 2CT+ from Avon. Let us see when the big players copy also the interlocking sipes ... 🤣🤣🤣
    Thanks again for these reports, very enlightening ... 👍👍👍👍👍

    Scuttlebutt says on lighter ADVs you have to drop the pressure to hook up better. Not sure how that would work with the soft sidewalls in rocks but it might be worth a try.

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  4 года назад +1

      Yeah... soft sidewalls in the rocks on this tire would for sure lead to bent rims like we have seen from the Bridgestone AX41! oooopsie! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

    So what’s a the best road tyre with solid wet performance (I live in norway) if I’m not interested in off road performance as I have a second set of tyres. This is for a 1090R so need 90/90-21 and 150-70 18.

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  4 года назад

      Hi James, unfortunately we can't really speak on that because out here in southern California we don't get a whole lot of rain and during our bug ADV Tire Shootout testing the little bit of sporadic rain we did get didn't account for enough time to thoroughly evaluate wet weather handling for all the tires.

    These came on my 790 Adventure S. On road they are excellent but on hard desert wash board roads they dance around and hunt at 32 psi and at 30mph. Will they get you there? yes, real well on pavement, yes on very dry, very hard and slick end of pavement washboard dirt roads but go slower than you normally would until you get used to them. They do hunt around. I have not had them off road proper in the desert yet. And I have not been in the rain. Be safe.

    Guys this is my second video I've seen from you and the quality of your reviews are incredible, I wish you more subs!
    This is my most favorite tire, last year I rode Moto Guzzi Stelvio down to Morocco and back, 12000 km trip, it survived scourging dessert roads, sand was doable and rocky climbs too. After that I rode another 3000km around my country and there is still pattern left, which is in my opinion amazing job on super heavy motorcycle like that.
    Check out this thread here, 25000km tire test and comparison :) earth-roamers.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-new-avon-trailrider.html

      Within the first 28 seconds of the video the presenter states that the Trail Rider is primarily a street tire that can be ridden offroad, (Avon calls it a 90/10 on road/off road). Then he immediately says the Trek Rider is a 50/50 tire.
