I'm not sure how this retirement is gonna work. At this point Costello Dismantling has removed all Wrecked cars of the 15s, 16s, 17s, and 18s. Now with only 20 cars delivered so far of the new CRRC Type 4's delivered. With 14 in Active service. With unites 1914/1915 1916/1917 and 1930/1931 still in testing. There are ways this retirement could work. The first way is retiring them by age and serious. So first 30 of the Type 4 1900s Serious will retire all remaining 22 of the 01500s serious. Although the T has make sure the 1900s serious are running perfectly, no mechanical issues or safety issues occurring. Once it's approved we will probably be alerted by the MBTA or can be brought up on the news channel that the T is finally retiring the oldest subway cars. I'm pretty we will be informed about the 01500s retirement. They will probably keep some as back up if the 1900s fail to work. Then once 50 more of the 1900s are delivered, tested, evaluated and are in Active service for a month, the T will announce a date for the last passenger trip for the 01600s and place them into storage for back up, if the 1900s break down. Once the 1900s don't show any problems for a month the T will reconnect with Costello Dismantling to remove the 01500s and 01600s. Probably by 2026 it's just the 01700s and 01800s left in active service. Once the 2000s and 2100s are delivered, tested, evaluated and are safely placed into active service for a month, and show no issues at all. The T will retire the 01700s and 01800s by 2027. Unlike the small Wellington Yard of the Orange Line. The Red Line has Alewife Yard, Cabot Yard, Codman Yard, and Caddigate Yard. The T won't immediately go Scrapping crazy on the 15s 16s 17s and 18s like the 01200s and 01300s on the Orange Line. They will probably place a lot into storage at Cabot, for back up if the new Type 4s are breaking down. For future work conversions it's expected for the 01800s to be converted to Maintenance or Snow Plowers, cause they are best condition operatable ones. For Preservements the T will first contact Seashore Trolley Museum of Kennebunkport, Maine and give an option to select something from the 15s 16s 17s and 18s. Unless Maine rejects the 15s, 16s, 17s because of the similar design of the Cambridge/Dorchester 01400s serious units 01450/01455 at Seashore. Since 01643 got preserved by the Core Investments, even though no longer operatable, at least a physical existing Preservement exists of the Pullman it's not Totally doomed. The Seashore may reject the 01800s due too much power consumption. The second way of retirement is taking out worst condition cars. The 15s and 16s could still be in service in 2027.
