He also had to explain everything to viewers. If you already know what you're doing, then the whole process is also much faster. But yeah, editing probably took more time than filming it. Great tutorial :)
I’ve been searching for vids that actually teach some practical skills and I couldn’t find any, until I found your channel and kinda binge watched all of your vids. You’re a real deal and not messing around like a lot of others on RUclips and I found all your tutorials very helpful and detailed explanation really helps the viewer understand what to do and what not to. Thank you so much for putting in time and effort for making these. Please keep them coming. Very useful. Love from India 💛
Yeah right? Like half the time you click a video from a "famous filmmaker" on RUclips, and the first 7 minutes are them talking about their day or plugging skillshare.
Middle-aged bloke furloughed in the UK. Just bought a gimbal for fun. Was looking for tips to share with my son to get started. Awesome walk-through. Thank you so much for taking the time. Will devour the rest of your vids. Brilliant. Thank you again. Stay safe.
Just had to pause the video to say that dude... you are like my new *favorite* person! Holy crow!! *SO* many ingenious ideas here. Especially holding the tripod upside down while walking. I live in an area where it snows 6 months out of the year. That old "use a skateboard" tip that everyone gives is LITERALLY useless here in Northern Michigan. But this? *THIS* is gold. Thanks Sean!!! Seriously.
Only recently got myself a grown-up camera and have spent so many hours watching tutorials, RUclips, Skillshare etc. But I've gotta say, having only discovered it last night, your channel is easily some of the most valuable information I've come across.
Who needs film school?! We got it all locked down right here! THANK YOU for sharing much knowledge. Just in time for my personal video challenges. I'm more comfortable with shooting myself. You got a new subscriber!
Learned a lot from this video. Although my videos are more sit and talk type, your tutorial gave me ideas of how my videos can be made more interesting. Such great work! Thanks for sharing!
I love that the 35mm is a Pentax K-1000. One of my favorite 35mm cameras ever. Tough as nails and steady! I have had a couple over the years and love them so much. Good taste. Nice video. Great tips.
Over the last year, I’ve watched this video at least 10-times...one of my absolute favorites for meaningful and useable B-roll techniques that yield great results without over-priced gear and magical camera shooting tricks. Thanks, Brother Sean. Be well.
Great tips and really nice result. I'm a solo creator so this has been really helpful as I've been struggling with ideas for interesting b-roll. Would be really interesting if you could do a video about how you edited and cut the clips together. Thanks for this great video though.
Omg I been waiting for this one !!! As a new RUclipsr I film solo! And I want to elevate my editing style! Thanks for teaching us all your tricks for cinematic clips!
Gosh there is so much in this to try out! You explain everything so clearly thank you so much for taking the time to make this. Looking forward to seeing how you edited the footage. Subscribed and liked superb channel. I have a football vlog channel so don't have the time to film in that way but it is B-Roll footage I dream about shooting it will still help my thinking with the establishing shots and the left to right movement especially during my approaches to football grounds. Thank you so much from the UK😊👍
When it comes to b roll and slow mo cinematic scenes tutorial you're my real influencers. I learned so many stuffs about your cinematography style and damn everyone loves my content and its all because of you .. thank you so much esp that im not a professional with making videos. I dedicate My intro video in my youtube page (to you)
normally I skip through a video with this length in order to get to the next point, yet each and every second of this video is rich with interesting shooting tips!! God bless you.
Ohhhhh the exposure trick is golden. I’m even more excited to go out and make beauteeful B roll. Loving the idea of forward-moving shots to open up a video... Thank you Sean!
And that... is what you call an excellent video! Great tutorial, broke it down really easily and simply into all the little steps yet was still direct and to the point. The final edit was briliant! Great flow. Gonna watch more of your videos now.
Please make more videos like this. I love watching videos about how to take better footage, and your videos have been the most helpful. They are very technical and interesting. You're so good at teaching techniques. Keep making these videos, and I will watch every one of them twice.
This is amazing video!!! But one question how do you know if the sony is focusing on you in 19:05 in ? And last thing can you do another video which video settings you are using for that kind of film
Bro. This was my favorite b roll tutorial I’ve watched. Thanks a bunch. So helpful to a lone photographer to show their story and how they get to those spectacular areas. Love it bro. Absolutely one of my favorite tutorials. Killing it man.
Appreciate all this info Sean. Being a lifelong carpenter, adapting my business, but not wanting to hire a full on videographer, some of these have really helped. You weren't joking how long it takes to compose and frame everything, has easily doubled my time on a jobsite, but it's been a blast. Appreciate the info, please keep it coming!
I been digging into how to diversify my B-roll and this one nailed it. One thing I never realized is the time consumption Broll takes over anything else lol
That was a lot of work for a 26 second video. Haha Seriously though, thanks for the tutorial. Hopefully, I'll be playing around with these techniques sometime in the near future.
Superbly helpful. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the thought, patience and TIME it must have taken you to break down what probably now comes quite intuitively to you, into so many do-able steps, with attendant explanations of the why and the strategy. I, too, would love more videos on how you edited this footage and also more videos on how to shoot close up broll of your own hands doing things.
Thank you so much! Going to film some cute soap making workshop footage today, so not as cool as outdoor footage but I definitely learned some techniques I’ll put into use today!
This was super inspiring because you used just one lens, one camera and one tripod. Usually filmmakers talk about tons of equipment and when one is just starting this can be discouraging. Accessible and cool! Thanks!
I've been thinking how I suppose create to a great video because no one in our house willing to hold/ be a subject to my video. Thank you so much for this video! Its really helped me
So glad I stumbled on you Sean. I think this will be useful me my outdoor painting videos that I'm wanting to attempt. I know it won't be easy, but you have given me some hope.
I’ve recently started travelling quite a few times recently and have been so bad at getting solo b-roll. This video is a game changer for me, thank you!
Thanks again Sean. I have a very similar project to do for a self promo that I will be using soon. This will be of great help to me and thanks to you. Great demonstration again and good advises as usual.
Wow, its the simple things like popping the camera on the tripod and using it as a selfie stick, the left to right which works so naturally, and the walking shots again with the camera on a tripod, I have been inspired to do much better B roll on future vids
Excellent. I have tried this and It is actually great fun. Its very therapeutic I really appreciate the work and the tips in this project. Thanks. Tony. Liverpool.
That much effort for 26 sec shot... Imagine a 2.5 hours long movie... 😲
Respect for filmmakers 👏🏻🙏 🎥
Not just video editing too but there are soo many people who make film and he is only 1guy
He also had to explain everything to viewers. If you already know what you're doing, then the whole process is also much faster. But yeah, editing probably took more time than filming it. Great tutorial :)
True
just imagine a whole 3 plus seasons of a show lol
In big budget movies, sometimes, you will have to shoot one single scene for a whole day. Yup !!!
Showing Pentax some love! Great explanation on how to capture quality B-Roll of yourself.

I want to start filming a garden channel at my house. I need these skills. I have the same camera and 2 great lenses just need to start.
The live insert of what the camera captures is excellent. The unedited shoot is also very great. Thanks for such an informative video. Cheers.
