I’ve seen them a few times here in America at air shows and it’s always insane. I’ll never forget the first time I saw one take off if afterburner right into a max performance climb followed by one of those crazy maneuvers only jets with thrust vectoring can pull off. It’s almost scary the first time you see it because it looks so unnatural for a high performance jet to come to an almost full stop in the air and then change directions. You think it just stalled and is about to burn in but then it just drops the nose and it’s off again. Bad ass.
Indeed. Only someone with a truly sophisticated knowledge of aerodynamics can understand how the Raptor doesn't actually break any of the laws, but knows that it goes right up to the lines. It is awe-inspiring.

There's (at least) one other ground-hugging route I learned of in Scotland. I was touring by train and someone in my coach mentioned that the RAF practiced low flying in the area. Backing him up on that a few minutes later, two Tornadoes came screaming through the valley a a couple of minutes apart. The noise was unbelievable, and just filled the train with the roar of their engines for a few moments.

Haven't had the chance to hear the f22 or f35 live, but I will never forget when I heard two f-15s taking off from St Louis airport. I still get chills when I think of it.

I was in the air force 2014-2020 and I was SF my job was to provide security for these beauties. Sometime I would just stare at them for hours. Such elegant machines.

That is awesome! I'm a Marine. When I was on active duty I used to sit and marvel at the F-18s that would fly low and fast over us. So jealous, I wished so bad that I had the eyesight for that. Being a fighter pilot is still the best job I can imagine. You fly the fastest aircrafts around and your job is literally to blow things up. What could be better than that?

There is NOTHING ON EARTH like seeing a Raptor perform it’s minimum radius turn with full afterburners lit……the instant those engine ports are directly lined up with you……OHHHHH MYYYYYY GAAAAWWWWDDDDDDD!!!!!!

good video - I used to live in Scottish highlands in the mountains about 50-100 miles from ben nevis ... the fighters and all the other planes were always flying ( everyday ) very low ... your clip is fantastic
I lived on the South Llano river in Texas and it's extremely remote. The house sat about 60ft above the river valley. I was sitting on the back porch enjoying the view when 3 F-22's came screaming by at eye level. I of course missed the first one since it was gone before I heard it but caught the next two. They were around 75 yards away from my porch. Never saw them before or again but man that was a treat to see and hear!!!

The Raptor is so graceful and effortless, it's hauling at 700kt and looks like a gentle stroll down the lane; no shake, no rattle, no blower. The Eagle is definitely trying, but still makes it look pretty easy, and it's definitely a meaner looking beast.

Pilot reports, mostly on F-16. net say the Raptor outperforms the F-15 in every aspect of the flight envelop on military power alone. I remember sitting with my wife on a hillside in the Burgundy region of France watching this war jet fly near us for about 30 minutes by and forth. The most amazing experience.

I am from an earlier technological point in time. Best ever was our dad screeching to a halt on the road at RAF Scampton? Coningsby? Ordering us out of the car, to lie down face up near the fence and experience the four engine scream and sight of 1950s built Vulcans dropping slowly onto the runway.
Id be willing to bet the F-22 (first plane) was fully loaded as well, it uses internal bays unlike the F-15. To give the F-15 credit though it did also have external fuel tanks but in general the F-22 is from my understanding designed to be significantly more manuverable
There is a pretty good chance that I made some of the parts in those planes. One of the coolest jobs I had was being sub contracted to make parts for Lockheed Martin’s F-22 Raptor.

For the first few weeks at Uni it was amazing, but when you hear these guys tear it up every fortnight it can get distracting when studying! However, I’ve always wanted to walk down the road and see them, just a short walk from my Uni.

An interesting article written by USAF back in 2007 stated the F-22 had 20,000 lbs more thrust than an F-15....:)
It has, but it's 8 tons heavier than F-15 so Thrust to weight ratio is about the same.

I am from an earlier technological point in time. Best ever was our dad screeching to a halt on the road at RAF Scampton? Coningsby? Ordering us out of the car, to lie down face up near the fence and experience the four engine scream and sight of 1950s built Vulcans dropping slowly onto the runway.

One of the few good things I remember about Iraq was the fighter jets flying overhead. And the A 10's are still my favorite jets ever.

What you don't see is how big the F22 is. Stood next to one visiting Nellis AFB. So much bigger than I imagined.
there's a video of a F-22 and a F-35 doing a fly bye side by side, the F-22 was so much bigger the F-35 looked like a smaller scale model

Id be willing to bet the F-22 (first plane) was fully loaded as well, it uses internal bays unlike the F-15. To give the F-15 credit though it did also have external fuel tanks but in general the F-22 is from my understanding designed to be significantly more manuverable
Those were fuel tanks and it couldn't turn as well because it is a much older aircraft with less capability

There is a pretty good chance that I made some of the parts in those planes. One of the coolest jobs I had was being sub contracted to make parts for Lockheed Martin’s F-22 Raptor.

For the first few weeks at Uni it was amazing, but when you hear these guys tear it up every fortnight it can get distracting when studying! However, I’ve always wanted to walk down the road and see them, just a short walk from my Uni.

Many years ago I was in the 6th fleet when we had under way replenishment with carrier with all this going on f14 ...f4 and others was a sight to see great memories. .. always loved these jets on the open ocean they would open up I mean open up.... again was a sight to see.....peace.
