That is just sleeping an uneasy sleep in my cd storage... Too many moons have passed from the time that Parn the warrior andthe Elven maiden Deedlith united their fates to defeat that evil goddes. Soon the CD collection will emerge again from the dust and we will see again the story of the ages unfolding.
Trust me, nobody who saw Record of Lodoss War, the original 12 chapter OVA, or the series forgot it. What you really mean is there are generations who never saw it and thus don't know about it, because a lot of younger anime fans don't watch older stuff.
Still to this day have the soundtrack on my writing playlist and hope beyond hope that one day with all of the studios looking back and doing expanded runs this one gets some attention. Arislan similarly but not quite as strongly.
I still remember the bootleg VHS tapes I made in the early 90's using a college classmate's Laser Discs that were straight from Japan. No subs, but what visual feast!
Record of Lodoss War was never forgotten. Younger anime fans may not know of its beauty, but we older fans still adore it. Lord willing, I’ll be able to find the DVD collection at Otakon this year. 😊
It's funny how people think just because an anime is older or not being viewed on RUclips that it's forgotten. To be honest when I think about anime I want to go back and rewatch it's usually the older stuff I grew up on, because they are mostly well done, very memorable complete series or standalones as opposed to what typically gets made these days.
@@Starlesslight I mean it's usually the kids that were born after 9/11 saying stuff like that but they're not whole people anyway so you cant hold it against them
My grandma has this entire series on VHS tape!! She's part of the reason I became interested in anime, my first anime series being Inuyasha which she also had on DVD. I remember always looking at the box set of this series on her top shelf and being curious of what it was about. She let me borrow it about a decade ago. I watched it and I remember loving it, but I can't rememeber anything that happens in it now. Time for a rewatch, I guess!
When a 35 year-old anime has better animation quality than most modern shows...something has gone terribly wrong. I miss this style of art and animation. Everything was so vibrant, fluid, and alive.
I loved Record of Lodoss War was one of the very first anime I watched. Back in the 90s when we had to get VHS stuff imported and fansubbed. It was awesome and worth every penny.
I've seen Record of Lodoss War OVA, Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight TV series, The Legend of Crystania Movie, The Legend of Crystania OVA, Rune Soldier TV series, and played Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth video game. So yeah, I'm a big fan of the best fantasy anime ever made.
Was introduced to it slight mor than 1/2 lifetime ago (I’m 40+) by a friend. Not forgotten but a little dusty & tucked away in my memory treasure chest. I could never forget this series for as long as I live. It's was my gateway series into anime and is my favorite anime of all time. I actually did a panel at the anime convention in my state a few years back about older anime you should watch and I made sure that this was on it. 😁👍
Hell yeah that sounds awesome! I can definitely see how the charm of the series can lead to wanting more of its kind and I think especially the 90s aera of anime was a special time to enjoy!
Never forgot this classic. Saved up and bought the VHS set in the early-mid 90s as a teen after catching the first 3 episodes on Sci Fi channel. Still love this OVA
Man, just because u never heard about it doesnt mean that is forgotten. The title it self even got a new game at those last years. And it is a pretty good metroidvania.
That's true. The main reason I made this video is because I've never heard anyone talk about it and I think that a lot of people in the younger generations have never heard about it and therefore in my opinion it has been left behind even though it is such an important piece of fiction.
My brothers friend left his anime collection at my house years ago and my childhood self dove into the world of anime... Record of Lodoss War was the first series I watched and it changed my life, it’s still to this day my favorite... a truly perfect ova from a golden age
Lodoss is not forgotten at all. It has one of the most dedicated fan bases of them all. Also the TV series has one of the most beautiful intros and songs ever done in anime. You can't go wrong with Maaya Sakamoto.
Record of Lodoss War and Vision of Escaflowne are Gems that should not only be rewatched every Few Years but also shared with the new Generation of Anime Fans.
I will always remember the first episode of this show I watched. It was with that Berserker character and the animations of him going crazy any time the demon possessing him takes over are insanely good. I rarely see that quality in anything I've watch in recent years.
This one is among my favorite animes ever! One of my favorite lines in any cenima genre is "What can kill a dragon, can destroy and army." Love this anime! I'll never forget this anime. It was the 2nd anime I ever watched.
This is absolutely one of my favorite fantasy animes! It got me into Dungeons and Dragons and so much of my characters I make take inspiration from Lodoss War! First dnd character, my high elf Druid was based on Deedlit!
Old anime looks damn good not to mention the attention to detail and the damage people sustain stay there, in some new anime they get injure badly but they don't show the torn clothes or crack floors
I'm one of those who have forgotten until mentioned. I love the ED theme and I know there's a recent Steam game with Deedlit as the player. But almost everything else I can't recall. Another one is Heroic Legend of Arslan or something.
Record of Lodoss War will always have a place in my hear i remember it air on the sci-fi channel early in the morning when i was a kid like 28 years ago with Gal Force, also Macross... ahh so many memories
Thank you so much for talking about this anime. The opening AND ending themes, along with the beautiful quality of the animation are the reason this anime is just that damn good.
The CPM Manga was my very first manga collection. Record of Lodss war was awesome. I remember watching the anime online in terrible quality on media player lol. Had the dreamcast game too. Fond memories.
Great video! I'm a long time anime fan, and I love discovering new series -- but for the longest time I actually mistakenly mixed this anime up with one I really didn't like which prevented me from giving this a real chance for decades. Finally, I decided to give it another shot a few months ago and was utterly blown away -- I don't think even seasoned anime fans are aware of what a gem this series is.

The only people who have "forgotten" about this anime are the people who are either new to anime or too young. Not really a memory thing. Just people watching isekai trash and shonen garbage.
More like newer fans watch newer anime. They probably know about a dozen 90s series since outside of DBZ, Pokemon, Sailor Moon etc, anime wasn't as widely available and more obscure. If you were to ask people to name 90s anime, you would probably hear a lot of people say the same stuff.
Anyone who has seen this amazing original OVA series has never forgotten about it. It just hasn't been found or noticed by a lot of current anime or fantasy fans due to it's age. It's one of my all time favourites and I highly encourage everyone who likes fantasy to try it. Great series!
I thought of this series almost every month since the series came out. In fact I thought of this last night. Back in the end of the 90s I met R.A. Salvatore and we talked about this anime since he was burned out by his fans only talking about Drizzt.
I havent forgotten cause I found out about Record of Lodoss war rabbit hole last year when I heard of Deedlit in wonder labyrinth (which had "Record of Lodoss War:" attached at the front) I thought with the long ah name it was a series of games... Turns out it was based on an anime... Based on a replay novel based on a D&D session... Which then went to inspire its own TTRPG... Its awesome and weird but the anime felt so good to watch, fantasy that takes itself seriously
I remember this classic, one of the best series to come out in the 90's, this and vision of escaflowne is probably the cream de la cream of anime. On par with ghost in the shell and Akira but being fantasy instead. Its weird to me that younger audience dont watch the older anime from the 90's and 80's this is when anime was at its peak and stories were original and didnt follow any god damn boring formulas that made every anime the same as it is today, vision of escaflowne is one of the first isekais, but back then being an isekai was something original compared to today where it is the norm. Glad you brought up this gem though.
Means a lot! I think the same way, there are way to many 90s anime that get lost in time while newer generations just watch the same stuff over and over again. the originality is kind of beeing lost aswell. I'm thinking about making a video about escaflowne aswell, so I hope that you will check it out aswell!
