Even the cheapest ones are too expensive for most middle income people. A big void: For every person confined to a wheelchair there are a thousand people who just can't walk well or far (like me). I can't go anywhere with my family that requires much walking.

Hi @bernie10315, I've managed to design my own control system, I mean these are amongst the expensive part of the product. I'm projecting a selling price of Rs.35-40K that is around USD 500~550. But due to lack of funding I'm not able to proceed. I'm still working on getting in touch with some companies. Lets just hope we can reach somewhere.
Would be a great addition if you adapt one pf your cheap cars (I think it's 'Tata'?) to get inside it with wheelchair in working position and to have in hand's range a connector for that accumulator, to get charged in car's motor, while moving through town. That would be REAL WIDE mobility!

For climbing stairs there are "stair lifts" using a rack-and-pinion mechanism bent alongside stairs shape. But they don't come cheap. Or you can try find and talk with these guys: ruclips.net/video/ik286spRM1w/видео.html
very bad experience with this company, i had purchased ground mobility up and down wheelchair and defect of bearing, after many reminders they did not attend the complaint whereas it was in warrantee period. i had ordered alluminium body but the supplied me iron body and did not tell me.

Majority conditions of the road in India is coarse. Wheels uses should be detachable off roads and with suspensions.
