Actually Tina said no comment when he died. She was more tactful than that. In her 2nd book "My Love Story" she said this: "Of course, the press bombarded me with questions, looking for a headline and hoping I would issue some kind of statement. But I kept a silent and respectful distance. Ike was totally gone from my life. It was like hearing a person I didn't know anymore, a person I hadn't known for 30 years, in fact. When I realized that I didn't feel anything, I understood that I had truly moved on."
Laurence Fishburne spent years after this movie with people assuming he really was like Ike Turner, because of how well he played the role. Luckily, it died down after he showed more of his range in the likes of Searching for Bobby Fischer and especially The Matrix.
That's how u know u did a good job as an actor!! I couldn't stand him as a kid n then I realized he was just playing the part of the real Ike. The real life Ike Turner was HORRIFIC!! Laurence just did a small snippet of how jacked up real Ike was💯

Today, May 24, 2023, Tina Turner has passed away at age 83. We will never forget her strength and her talent. There will never be another like her. RiP Tina! ❤️🔥💔😭❤️🖤💔😭
My own sister was being abused by her boyfriend and kept it all a secret. But one day me and my brother dropped in on her unexpectedly. Caught the whole situation. Well, after kicking his ass, we called the cops, charges were pressed and she came and stayed with us and our girlfriends in Florida. Eventually, she met someone else, a lifeguard ironically, and she's been great for 11 years now and they have two beautiful kids 7 and 5. To both the ladies and men, you don't have to be some insecure scumbags punching bag. Also, great reaction guys. 👍
@@Poeticfloetic sadly, she wasn't empowered to call the cops herself and kept it a secret. It happens to many people who are manipulated to stay in abusive relationships. I really think they should teach about this in school (in health class or something) because it seems like parents aren't doing it.

Mainly, so they couldn’t have enough especially in Tina’s case to have enough to leave or get away from Ike when they were very young in their careers. Tina and Cher both said they didn’t even know how to do their own finances or handle a budget or checking account themselves until they were divorced and out of their marriages. It’s quite sad knowing how abused in many ways and dependent those men made them be on them.

And I believe he developed a complex about people leaving him since he had his material taken and used before and received no credit. Since the movie is just loosely based on her story they don't mention that she was dating and had her oldest child with another band mate. Tina said she thought Ike was ugly and they were more like brother and sister and later friends with benefits which led to her getting pregnant by him and him having to drop Lorraine. And she recalls that he was abusive to Lorraine and he was already abusing her when he proposed so she was scared to turn him down. That has to be so scary.

She signed with Olivia NewtonJohns manager. He got her a contract with capital records. They wanted her to do stuff like the pointer sisters were doing but she wanted to do Rock n Roll. A middle aged black woman doing Rock wasn’t something they were willing to get behind because they didn’t see a market. Capitol would only market her in Europe. She recorded a remake of Al Greenes Let’s Stay Together. It was released in the UK and became a hit with British audiences. A New York DJ was in England and he loved her remake. He brought several copies of the record back to the States and gave it Air play then it started to rise on the charts here. That got her record company’s attention and that’s what lead to her come back album Private Dancer. She originally hated The song What’s Love Got To Do With It. And had to be talked into recording it. She thought it sounded to Pop for her. It was reworked with her in mind into the version it became. When it hit number one she was the oldest person to ever have a number one hit in America. She held that record until Cher hit in the early 2000’s with her song Believe.
You guys getting smitten every time Lawrence Fishburne shows up in a movie just brings me joy. I’m suggesting the movie Just Cause. I have to see you ride that rollercoaster.
A classic. Angela Bassett was nominated for an Academy Award for this role. Can y’all watch “The Best Man” please?! I need to see your reaction to that drama 😂 The cast got back together like 20 years later and did a sequel as well that did extremely well. Also, Cuba Gooding Jr. recs: 1. Radio 2. Men of Honor
Still can't believe Holly Hunter won the Best Actress Oscar for The Piano, playing a mute woman with minimal emotional acting outbursts compared to Angela Bassett in this putting heart, emotion and soul into the role
Some good Angela Bassett movies: Waiting To Exhale (with Whitney Houston, Lela Rachon and Loretta Devine) The Jackson's American Dream (tv movie, she played Katherine Jackson.) How Stella Got Her Groove Back Malcolm X (She played Betty Shabazz.)
In Highschool I worked at a movie theatre, and back in the day movies came in huge film canisters that had to be manually spliced together, and at least one person had to watch the movie in full before it opened to the public to make sure it was kosher. For whatever reason, nobody previewed this movie. I was panic called into work at 8am that opening Friday morning to clock in and watch this all by myself. Best movie I've ever been paid to watch :) 100%
I remember seeing this movie in the theater, and that scene in the limo when Tina finally fought back against Ike, the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. One of my FAVORITE on screen duos, Angela Bassett & Laurence Fishbourne (see: "Boyz & The Hood" & "Akeekah & The Bee").
Not crazy at all. Alot of Hollywood greats look young. Look at the late Cicely Tyson. She looked younger than her years. I can go on and on. It's common. Black does not crack. Period. ❤️
Is it really crazy?? First of all 33 and 35 aren't anywhere close to being old. Secondly, lots of people Hollywood look younger than their actual years because they have great trainers and stylists and work out constantly and have good eating habits.
I love how Tina didn’t care for the royalties from the songs made with Ike. She said he can keep it all except her stage name. Cause she knew she could make it without him. And she was right. Ike never reached that level again (I did hear he made songs but never reached stardom)
Amazing movie. Tina is now happily retired and leaving in Switzerland. She didn’t attend the premier to this movie cause her reason: she lived it and didn’t need to see it.
Angela Bassett did the damn thing for sure in this movie but Laurence Fishburne, wow! I mean he played that sadistic man so well. No matter how hard it is to watch some of the moments in this movie, I have still watched it several times over the years because it is so well made and the cast is stellar!
Saw this in theater with my family as a kid (highly inappropriate, I know). But I will never forget the cheers in the limo when she finally fought back. The audience erupted.
Since this movie came out Ike has passed and i think the oldest son has. Tina is married to a beautiful man that treats her like the queen she is and they live in Switzerland. Those muscular legs of hers gave her one heck of a contract with leggs pantyhose. She insured her legs for millions of dollars. Can find her commercials here on RUclips. Thank you for doing this. I never turn away Tina or Angela
Had to come back. She found peace in life and now has peace in the spirit world. She is now added to the list of acts playing at the music festival up above that includes 2Pac, Biggie, Johnny Cash & June Carter, Michael Jackson, Prince, and many others. R.I.P. queen
“What’s love but a second hand emotion … Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken.” - Tina Turner is a blessing, but lord knows Angela Bassett is the queen of queens
Powerful performances by both Angela and Laurence - definitely one of the best musical biopics. Tina Turner is an American treasure and she deserves nothing but the best things in life.
when the movie premiered, everyone was so impressed with how ripped Angela Bassett's are were - and the joke was that if Tina Turner had those arms, she could have beaten Ike to death. lol. Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pffeifer, Keanu Reeves, Uma Thurman, in one movie. that movie is Dangerous Liaisons.
You remembered Laurence Fishburne in Boyz in the Hood, but you don't remember Angela Basset was his ex-wife and mother of Cuba Gooding, Jr in that film. Great video, guys!
Cuba Gooding Jr. won a Best Suppprting Actor Oscar for "Jerry McGuire". He was electrifying in it, just great. The movie also made Renee Zellweger a star and garnered Tom Cruise an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. A good movie to review even if you don't react to it. Congratulations on your 50K, knew you two could do it!
love this , i cried when i first watched this , i was an ex boyfriend's punch bag until i finally found the courage to leave taking my baby girl with me
Ike actually thanked Lawrence for his portrayal of him, I remember a tv interview he did when this film premiered. Everyone says Lawrence and Angela should have won the Oscars that yr, and that's No Cap, I agree. I remember watching the Oscars, nothing against the other nominees but these two really should've won. Your thoughts on Ike were dead on, he couldn't make it without Tina. Ike had talent BUT he didn't have the IT factor to get him over the top or to the top. Instead of love it lead him to insecurity, jealousy & of course drugs.
The way I have waited for this film to be done by u guys!!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 such a great film n amazing story !! And the acting oh my gosh!!!!! Angela basset should have gotten an Oscar’s !!
It's the fact that the real Ike Turner was smashing Tina's mom in the midst of all this would've been enough reason to leave as if the beating n the mistreatment wasn't enough. I feel bad for Loraine, Tina saw what she was getting herself into. She was just weak and start struck. And her friend Jackie was actually one of Jehovah's witnesses NOT a buddist. The movie leaves out A LOT
YES, most biopics get "hollywoodified" and some of those omissions or additions are completely unnecessary. This movie would have you thinking Ike was Tina's 1st love and and the father of her oldest son...that's glaring to me. And Alline introduced her to chanting & Buddhism not Jackie.
I would also recommend the Tina documentary she did on HBOMax last year, it really delves deep into Ike and Tina's relationship. What stuck with me is when they divorced, she got stuck having to repay all of the cancelled concerts that The Ike and Tina Revue had. She did variety shows on television, she did those hotel and casino shows, because she needed to pay all of that money from those lost concerts after she left Ike. It was wild. She also explains why she gave him everything but kept her name. I also think that Doc is on RUclips. I'm not suggesting it for a reaction, but just in case you wanted to learn some more about her.
Love to see you reacting to this. It's definitely a classic. One point of contention... Ike was actually very talented. He's credited with recording the FIRST rock & roll song EVER. He definitely had a problem. He was an abusive drug addict. That overshadowed all his talent because he was a great songwriter and producer. Tina is just brilliant. Nothing like her before or since.
If you guys are interested in other musical biopics, be sure to check out these awesome films! Selena (1997) Ray (2004) Walk the Line (2005) Great reaction as always!!
I really and truly appreciate the time you take to react to movies that we in the Black community consider all time classics! Love your channel and keep up the good work!!!❤️
My momma said the leaving Ike scene wasn’t accurate, She said Tina got out the car when they were fighting. She had she never made it to the hotel with Ike
The minute Tina finally runs from Ike for good and that score hits, I'm usually bawling my eyes out and screaming at my TV "Go!!! Run!!!" Tina at first, hated "What's Love Got To Do With It?" but her manager, Roger Davies, pushed her to do it, telling her that it was a guaranteed hit! Also, in 1981, she was offered the song "Physical" but she turned it down, feeling that the lyrics were too dirty for her, and suggested that Roger pass the song on to one of his other clients, a very good friend of Tina's, and that was Olivia Newton-John.
21:40 - Ike is wearing a Beatle haircut, which everyone was wearing in the 60s. Certain black acts would straighten their hair and have their own Beatle cut: Bobby Byrd had one, Ike had one, I believe Sly Stone had one, pre-stardom.
42:48 You saw Angela Bassett in "Boyz in the Hood". She played the mother of Cuba Gooding, She was Lawrence Fishburne's ex. They teamed up again for "What's Love Got to do With It". She was also in the movie "The Jacksons: An American Dream".
Y’all don’t understand how happy you guys make me feel seeing you’ve posted. I really enjoy your videos. And man the consistency is like no other. You guys really make my day, keep up the good work👍🏾
You guys should indulge in other the black artists bio pics. There are really some amazing stories behind so many legendary groups in R&B. Some were really tragic behind the music. Some of our favorite biopics are The Temptations, Little Richard, The New Edition Story, Ray (Ray Charles), The Jackson's An American Dream, and although not true but based on groups of the time, our all time fav The Five Heartbeats!!! I may be missing a few so y'all chime in.
This was a GREAT movie!!! That scene in the Hotel w/ the manager ALWAYS bring out the onion ninjas!!! VERY well acted!!!! You guys are great! I just watched your "Precious" reaction. Never seen the whole thing but DAMN :-O
Thanks for reacting to this! It's nice to see reactions to these kinds of movies. And since you reacted to the Tina Turner movie I would like to recommend a couple more movies based on artists. First is "La Bamba" which is based on the true story of Ritchie Valens. And then the 1997 movie "Selena" based on the true story of Selena Quintanilla. I don't want to give too much away but both are great movies based on sad events and both have great soundtracks.
I used to chant because of this movie. It ends up being the same as praying a rosary or any other repeated words/phrases. It basically gets you to a clear and stronger mind. Tina was something of an idol of mine at the time since she was all over Mtv. I also knew Laurence Fishburne as "Cowboy Curtis" so this was different but a great performance. Ike kept his pimp hand strong. The thing is I now see the parallels between her and Britney who maybe wasn't abused to the same degree but was kept controlled and abused while being forced to perform. It sucks being a Sagittarius. A good movie in this subgenre is DREAMGIRLS. Don't know if you saw it. More great performances and they actually do the singing.
Angela DID the damn thing. She should've won an Oscar

Yeah I heard after her divorce with Ike she was performing at local bars just to live comfortably 🤦🏿♀️
Life can really take a turn.
She was so desperate for money that she performed in South Africa during Apartheid. She later apologized and was, of course, forgiven.
You guys getting smitten every time Lawrence Fishburne shows up in a movie just brings me joy. I’m suggesting the movie Just Cause. I have to see you ride that rollercoaster.
That's a good movie 🎬!
A classic. Angela Bassett was nominated for an Academy Award for this role.
Can y’all watch “The Best Man” please?! I need to see your reaction to that drama 😂 The cast got back together like 20 years later and did a sequel as well that did extremely well.
Also, Cuba Gooding Jr. recs:
1. Radio
2. Men of Honor
I’ve been begging For A WHOLE Year for them to watch The Best Man
Yesss I’ve been waiting for The Best Man
Same here I also wanted them to watch Berry Gordy's the last dragon

AM I THE MEANEST!?!?!?

Still can't believe Holly Hunter won the Best Actress Oscar for The Piano, playing a mute woman with minimal emotional acting outbursts compared to Angela Bassett in this putting heart, emotion and soul into the role
Angela should have definitely won for best actress that year :-(
Idk - it takes a lot to lead an epic movie without saying a word. It was a tough category that year for sure.
Always thought that performance from Holly sucked. Angela Bassett is such an incredible Actress with amazing screen presence. Totally robbed. 💔
@@steviekc9057 Angela was robbed
It's all opinions
Some good Angela Bassett movies:
Waiting To Exhale (with Whitney Houston, Lela Rachon and Loretta Devine)
The Jackson's American Dream (tv movie, she played Katherine Jackson.)
How Stella Got Her Groove Back
Malcolm X (She played Betty Shabazz.)
Waiting to exhale!!!
Angela Bassett got good movies
In Highschool I worked at a movie theatre, and back in the day movies came in huge film canisters that had to be manually spliced together, and at least one person had to watch the movie in full before it opened to the public to make sure it was kosher.
For whatever reason, nobody previewed this movie. I was panic called into work at 8am that opening Friday morning to clock in and watch this all by myself. Best movie I've ever been paid to watch :) 100%
Omg that’s so awesome. What an experience that must’ve been🥰.
Wow cool story
I remember seeing this movie in the theater, and that scene in the limo when Tina finally fought back against Ike, the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. One of my FAVORITE on screen duos, Angela Bassett & Laurence Fishbourne (see: "Boyz & The Hood" & "Akeekah & The Bee").
THAT WASNT SHIT YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE IN WAITING TOO EXHALE SHE WAS BURNING THAT OTHER MAN SHIT
Her mother sold her out when she ran away because Ike bought the mother her house.
Yep, apparently the money was more important than her daughter.
Yeah in her documentary her mother was kind of trash.
I noticed that after my 3rd time watching (I never got to catch the movie fully before) she really snitched on her daughter 😒
She actually sold her out much earlier when Ike came asking for Anna Mae and Ike planted those flowers and gave her mom money.
"Eat the cake Anne May!" Iconic line even Jay Z put it in a song
Laurence Fishburne played the hell outta this role lmao 💀
He played it so well, people really hated him for this role. 😭
And did!
RIP to the Queen of Rock n Roll 😢
26/11/39-24/05/23
The Color Purple, Precious and now What's Love Got to Do with It. Wow. I continue to be impressed.
👀 Hmmm
This role just proves how great of an actor Lawrence fishburn is,cuz everyone was upset with him after this role.
I still can't believe Angela Bassett didn't win a Oscar for this role this movie was better than piano.
Fun Fact: Angela Bassett was 35 and Laurence Fishburne was 33 when the film came out. Crazy how they were able to manage to look young.
People looked young for their age back then. These days, people look old at 21.
Thirties is young..bahahahha.. Come on
33 and 35 aren't old
It's rare that I feel as good as I do at the end of a film than I do here with the real Tina smiling, strong and triumphant.
I had to come and send my fairwell to Tina. May she rest on in paradise.
I always loved how when the courts granted the divorce all of the sons stayed with Tina. FYI,she recently did a documentary on prime video.
That scene where Tina sings “Fool in Love” with that drying tear track visible throughout-such a gut punch!!
This is a classic an Angela Bassett did wonderful in this movie 😊‼️ congratulations on 50k 💜
Angela Bassett was in Boys in the Hood, as well. She was Tre's mother. This was the second movie that she starred in with Lawrence Fishburn!
Brilliant film and they both work so well together
Glad you guys already like Lawrence 😂😂 because he played the crap out of this character. Awesome reaction.
I remember when I was a kid I was in love with those legs 😂. I asked my mom the first time I seen her I said " Mom who's that woman with the thighs" 😂

@@MrGrifter123 i just posted a couple commercials. You can fall in love with her all over again ❤️
Fun fact... The house that they bought in the movie, was the actual house Ike and Tina lived in.
Had to come back. She found peace in life and now has peace in the spirit world. She is now added to the list of acts playing at the music festival up above that includes 2Pac, Biggie, Johnny Cash & June Carter, Michael Jackson, Prince, and many others.
R.I.P. queen
As a domestic violence survivor myself I can say the "why not just leave him" question is more complicated than most people think xx
“What’s love but a second hand emotion …
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken.” - Tina Turner is a blessing, but lord knows Angela Bassett is the queen of queens
Powerful performances by both Angela and Laurence - definitely one of the best musical biopics. Tina Turner is an American treasure and she deserves nothing but the best things in life.
"That haircut alone says stay away from this human"......🤣🤣🤣😉
Saw Tina twice in college. Incredible performer w/more stamina past 40 than most of us young ppl dancing in the aisle!😊
Rewatching in May 2023..R.I.P Tina xxx you will always be my inspiration ❤
when the movie premiered, everyone was so impressed with how ripped Angela Bassett's are were - and the joke was that if Tina Turner had those arms, she could have beaten Ike to death. lol.
Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pffeifer, Keanu Reeves, Uma Thurman, in one movie. that movie is Dangerous Liaisons.
The reverence you two have for Laurence Fishburne is hilarious. In my own way, I feel the same way. Check him out in School Daze.
Good movie!
I love this movie Angela Bassett should have won Oscars for this movie but lost to holly hunter for the piano
Angela Bassett was also in Boyz in the Hood. Lawrence Fishbourne was Cuba Gooding Jr.'s dad and Angela was the mom.
I loved seeing Tina Turner herself at the end of the movie, triumphant.
love this , i cried when i first watched this , i was an ex boyfriend's punch bag until i finally found the courage to leave taking my baby girl with me
Proud of you for finding that courage and leaving such a horrible person; wishing you nothing but the best!
I’m glad you made it out 😊
Ya’ll gotta watch Angela Bassett in The Jackson’s: An American Dream, Waiting to Exhale, AND How Stella Got Her Groove Back!!!
I wanna request that yall please watch "The Help." Yall will definitely like that movie! And the revenge scene that's the best revenge ever! 🤣
Your love for Lawrence Fishburne is golden. Love too see it. He had great roles in films.
I agree
YES, most biopics get "hollywoodified" and some of those omissions or additions are completely unnecessary. This movie would have you thinking Ike was Tina's 1st love and and the father of her oldest son...that's glaring to me. And Alline introduced her to chanting & Buddhism not Jackie.
@@Lola_Loren some random woman Ike brought to the house introduced her to Buddhism.
OMG this is my absolute favorite movie, I can't believe y'all reacting to it. Can't wait to see this!
Watch the bodyguard with Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston
I concur
Oh yea.
Yes!!!
RIP to the queen of rock n roll Tina Turner
If you guys are interested in other musical biopics, be sure to check out these awesome films!
Selena (1997)
Ray (2004)
Walk the Line (2005)
Great reaction as always!!
I really and truly appreciate the time you take to react to movies that we in the Black community consider all time classics! Love your channel and keep up the good work!!!❤️
That diner scene “I though we were getting breakfast” lmfao like I feel like we all didn’t ask that question 😭😭😭😭
Run!!!"
Tina at first, hated "What's Love Got To Do With It?" but her manager, Roger Davies, pushed her to do it, telling her that it was a guaranteed hit! Also, in 1981, she was offered the song "Physical" but she turned it down, feeling that the lyrics were too dirty for her, and suggested that Roger pass the song on to one of his other clients, a very good friend of Tina's, and that was Olivia Newton-John.
I love how you guys watch classic black movies nobody else reacts to because y'all are like "😳" lol.
21:40 - Ike is wearing a Beatle haircut, which everyone was wearing in the 60s. Certain black acts would straighten their hair and have their own Beatle cut: Bobby Byrd had one, Ike had one, I believe Sly Stone had one, pre-stardom.
Thanks for this info! I couldn't place Anderson .Paak's hairstyle -- it's a Beatle cut.
It sucks that they love Lawrence Fishburne & this is the movie they pick to watch 😂😂😂
Why
🤣🤣 and they were so happy at the beginning… little did they know lol
42:48 You saw Angela Bassett in "Boyz in the Hood". She played the mother of Cuba Gooding, She was Lawrence Fishburne's ex. They teamed up again for "What's Love Got to do With It". She was also in the movie "The Jacksons: An American Dream".
"If you tell me what to do I'm gonna not just to spite you." Can I subscribe MORE!? LOL I love you guys! I can relate so hard!
I'm glad we ain't the only ones LOL!
Tina was definitely a legend. She was an amazing singer, performer, and strong beautiful woman. May she Rest In Peace.
I was definitely going to ask them to watch the Temptations and The Jackson’s. The others are also great but those two movies and Tina’s are the best.
*biopics. It's one word.
The reaction to the chick singing on stage then screaming had me on the floor! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was a GREAT movie!!! That scene in the Hotel w/ the manager ALWAYS bring out the onion ninjas!!! VERY well acted!!!!
You guys are great! I just watched your "Precious" reaction. Never seen the whole thing but DAMN :-O
Rip Anna Mae Bullock aka Tina Turner😢😢😢😢
"The name is mine! The name got my daddy's blood on it" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣
