I just wish Jehovah's Witnesses would realize that if The Watchtower was misleading them on something as basic as the Name of God, then they surely must be misleading them on a great many other issues as well. Great video!

One issue I immediately see in their videos of Biblical times is that everyone wears spotless, new looking clothing, including the digital characters. The reality is people probably stank (they didn't wash much 400 years ago, never mind 2000 years!), smelt of the animals many lived with and wore all kinds of shifts, sheepskin and other. Reality is absent as it is in the doctrines and such. 😮 😢

@@Mr.DC3.1914 The term "Jeho" in names like Jehoshua and Jehoshaphat is not derived from "Jehovah" but rather from the Hebrew YHWH, the original Tetragrammaton. The word "Jehovah" is a much later construct that did not exist during the time these names were used. Therefore, while these names reflect devotion to the God of the Bible, the claim that "Jeho" directly references "Jehovah" is anachronistic and linguistically inaccurate.

Thank you Seth. This really helped. Along with your other video about the cross. Recently, after seeing me wearing a cross, my father who is a JW sent me this message “Your actions in distancing yourself from the Truth by actively pursuing a form of worship directly contrary to the Truth - ignoring our Creator Jehovah God and blatantly adopting an image, the cross, which you must know is abhorrent to our beliefs means that we have no choice sadly but to also distance ourselves from you, out of loyalty to our Creator Jehovah.”
Both he and my mum have been hot and cold with me for a while since I faded out of the religion. I recently found the true Jesus so I feel at peace with this. But also sad.

The Watchtower Bible Translation Committee admitted in print that Jehovah is not really God's name, writing "While inclining to view the pronunciation 'Yahweh' as the more correct way, we have retained the form 'Jehovah' because of people's familiarity with it since the 14th century." ~ New World Bible Translation Committee (The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures, page 23.) Exodus 3: 15:" This is my name forever" was handed down orally." Every spoken language contains vowels, and the earliest preserved writings we have.. provide us with the evidence...not forgetting the centuries if minted coins which bear the divine name in English, along with the wealth of archaeological evidence...it's too weighty to ignore!

@@mr.d.c.1914.1 D.C , Seth pointed out that the WT teaches that this name has been from the beginning then they later recanted and said it wasn't from the beginning, which is it? This is not a matter of getting "new" light it is a matter of not doing historical homework.
This was the point of the whole program that Seth put forth.
For the rest of us not in this group the name Jehovah is not the point because if we are born from above the name of Yeshua is the point.
When the WT talks out of both sides of their mouth shouldn't you be questioning why?
Charles T. Russell said only one true thing: New light can not cancel old light and this is true.
A person may not fully understand prophecy at first but when the understanding comes it is a full understanding of the same not a complete opposite reveal.
For the WT, they say that they get new light from God then they completely cancel out the things they say and call it new light from God. This is not how God works. God doesn't change(Malachi 3:6) and He doesn't lie (Titus 1:2 and Hebrews 6:18) so if you have completely opposite reveals on the same subject then it wasn't from the God of the bible.
We are told to test the spirits. How do we do that? We go to the word and read the entire chapter or even letter on the subject.

@@mr.d.c.1914.1 DC sin is not a mistake! I hear many people stating this very thing.
The WT has a habit of stating that they are speaking for God, then being wrong and adjusting their teachings accordingly, when someone is wrong then they admit it and apologize. The WT never to my knowledge has admitted any wrong doing for teaching unbiblical things. Did you know that the second explanation for blaspheming God's name is teaching wrong things and saying it's coming from God? This is the moral law.
Following the Lord is not an improvement program it is surrendering to the Lord Jesus Christ for your sins and having a renewal of the mind.
This is not taught in the WT so there's no washing of sins because the gospel is not spoken.
We are dead in our sins, a dead man can not decide to improve himself, we must first understand by the Holy Spirit that we are dead and separated from God because of our wickedness then make the decision to surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ knowing that there is no other way then follow Him.

@@Mr.DC3.1914 the masoretes definitely concealed the divine name because of oral tradition. Thats the elephant in the room. That is the tradition your speaking of. Its a tradition not rooted in law but oral tradition. Evidence…The persecution of Emperor Hadrian burned a jew for pronouncing the sacred name with the vowels by wrapping a tora scroll around him with a soaked sponge to make him suffer longer. 250 CE. He hated Jews. So all the Jews had a prohibition on the name and Tora writing openly for some centuries…So when they said the priestly blessing according to the law they developed the special two handed finger separation that you see leonard nimoy in star-trek do. He uses one hand actually….their was a ban on the divine name just before the destruction of the second temple and because of Roman Hadrians persecutions. In one of the oral traditions..I’ve quoted it above in the other comments….a man ascended the sacrificial area with his brother in law( they were apparently lined up )where he heard the high priest swallow the name…..basically that means he said the name YeHoVaH under his breath as part of the priestly duties at the temple to bless the people in the
way YeHoVaH prescribed in the law….basically using his name. ….but cautiously not out loud. The Ultimate proof is in the Aleppo codex…i mentioned this in the historical comment above. When they would write the consonants they were deliberately very careful to leave out the middle vowel or leave out the points all together. …however, when you do this for thousands of times …..and in the masora’s mind ( masorete) he was saying it with the 3 vowels included….guess what would happen occasionally? Yyyyuuuup..Yes. He would write it with all the vowel points…YeHoVaH. In English you could harden the Y and use a J. JeHoVaH. Since Nehemiah Gordon found these multiple occurances in the Aleppo codex….they have also found the same in the Leningrad Codex. …..and to date we have found over a thousand manuscripts with the vowel points completely in place……so much for the scholar you mentioned. Those guys are trying to protect a theology just like trinitarians with the Jesus is God nonsense. The rabbis have admitted for centuries that the missing vowels were sheva kolam kamatz…..in private communications and letters that were not transcribed except at certain Universities….but now they are being transcribed for the first time in literally hundreds of years and sometimes the first time ever. The vowels are openly reffered to among ancient rabbis. But besides this they have unearthed scriptural references in Isreal that clearly refer to the 3 vowels. …here’s the kicker. Drum role please?..bbbbb…bbbbb. Guess how many manuscripts have Yahwey?……….zero. There are none. In fact it violates basic Hebrew grammar….you have to have a vowel after the H….the only exception is in some name endings. If some people in these posts truly knew Hebrew grammar as they say,,,,they would not be saying these things. But there theology crosses over and blinds their attempt at unbiased scholarship. Let the text speak….do not read into it. The grossest part is while rightfully exposing the JW’s , your turning people out of the frying pan and into the fire of pure pagan teachings!! Your supposed to free them from the cult,,,not substitute it with the ancient pagan cult of constantine and friends. Your knowledge of scripture should get more accurate….not descend back down to the filth of trinity, violating the first commandment, hellfire ( propagating the first lie told to Eve, she would not die) and making the creator into a vindictive fiend of fire sacrifice of the pagan god Molech Jeremiah 7:31. A thing that had never come into my heart said YeHoVaH……. We should be reaching higher….not descend back down to pagan doctrine. …then somehow say this is love?! How are you better than the governing body…they want to be our mediator, replacing Jesus….and you want God and Jesus to be evil vindictive sadistic torturers….or my favorite..he needed another angel in heaven when somebody dies. Therefore attributing wickedness to God. Raise yourselves above that. Going back into the filth or going back into mire filthy darkness is not the answer

Have you ever noticed, that those theophoric names that carry "YH" [יה] in the beginning are pronounced either "Yeho*", names like Jehoshua, Jehoshafat, or "Jo*" names like Yoseph or Yohanan...
I think is possible, that the same thing COULD apply for the name of God. I have read [and watched] countless sources about the name of the LORD but I am still unsure.
      God bless you!

@@amoscorvus Interesting point of view. But then..."Elijah" stands for "The name of my GOD is Jah...". "El" is the short form for "Elohim". I'm not shure if using Wikipedia is forbidden for mempbers of JW, but there's a good article about the origins of the word "Halleluja(h)" with cross reference to the scientific background of hewbrew translations. At least in the gerrman Wikipedia you can find an article about the origins of the name "Jehoshua", where you can read "Yeshua ha-Nosri stands for "Jesus of Nazareth"
I am aware that Wikipedia itself is not scientific, but they have to back up their content with sources that can then be used for further research. I am very grateful that the Bible even encourages us to pursue all sources without limits. The Bible does not limit the sources of information, which I find absolutely wonderful, and it also shows me that the Bible does not have to be afraid of being refuted. (Okay, there are exceptions, but they do not fundamentally change the actual message of the scriptures.)

Hello Seth great work and i love to watch your videos for my information work about jw in different Christian congregation.
I personally dont care if they use jehova instead of YHWH or how ever ...the problem is that they only see the father in this name and they are even ready ro change the scriptures to support it. I think the big problem with the name is:
    1. JW told me its not possible to be a "friend" of God without using his name...

@Mr.DC3.1914 The Triune God, or Trinity, is a Christian belief that God is experienced as three persons with distinct roles, but equal divinity:
      The Father
The creator and origin, who chooses, plans, and wills. The Father is the head of Deity.
      The Son
The fulfiller, who obeys the Father and does His will. The Son reveals Deity.
      The Holy Spirit
Carries out the work of Deity, setting apart, sanctifying, and teaching. The Holy Spirit dwells in us, pointing us to the Father and the Son.
The Trinity's roles reflect its eternal relationship, and do not diminish the deity, attributes, or essential nature of each person. Each person of the Trinity has all of the attributes of God, and no one person has any attributes that are not possessed by the others.

      That's a strong accusation.
But if quoting from the Holy Scriptures in truth is another Gospel already, than there is something wrong with such a principle. Because Jesus Christ spoke the truth, not the opposite. But I agree that the Gospel should be retained in truth, as received via inspiration. But at least it is not deliberate, and there is a note, that it was inserted.
Though I believe that Jesus Christ, who didn't himself write anything related to the Gospel, and the Apostles, when they were quoting from the Holy Scriptures, they could be quoting it in full, and Gospel itself is not only the written document.
Which was written maybe in favor of the Septuagint than and of spreading of the Gospel among the nations.
The Scriptures also says that to Jews were entrusted with the sacred pronouncements of God. Romans 3:1,2
And that aside there is the Kingdom Interlinear Bible.

To defend the true Gospel, we should also know, what this Gospel contained.
Jesus himself likely cited the Tetragrammaton directly in
his famous speech, citing from Isaiah 61:1.
John 17:26: "I have made your name known to them and will make it known,
so that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them."
Its also been noted of Tarphon the sage of the 1st century,
that the heretical works, or the Gospels (gilyonim) which
      contained the Tetragrammaton were burned.

He knows his Hebrew, and is finding the pronuncuation Yehovah ...from the ancient manuscripts, which actually use Hebrew vowels, and these are not the vowels of adonai. Even in 1890, Rabbi Jacob Bachrach, rejected your claim. ...explaining that Adonai has a vowel called Chataf- Patach under its first letter ( far right ) .If YHWH has the vowels of Adonai, it would have a Chataf-Patach under its first letter just as Adonai has. Instead , YHWH has Sheva under its first letter.

When studying with JWs I was told something that made sense. In Matthew 6:9, in the Lords Prayer, Jesus says “You must pray, then, this way: “‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.”’ How can his name be sanctified if we don’t use his name? Jesus also explicitly said in John 17:26 that he has made God’s name known. What is your opinion on this? On a different note, I was surprised by the point you made on the verse that would be calling Jesus Jehova if we follow JWs translation rule. However, you didn’t say whether you agree with the rule in the first place. To me it seems reasonable to include God’s name when there is a clear reference/quote to a passage in the Old Testament where the Tetragrammaton was used. Thank you for your videos on JWs, they’ve been very useful in my personal study.

This comment raises thoughtful points about the sanctification of God's name and the inclusion of "Jehovah" in Bible translations. Let’s analyze the logic and offer perspectives to address the key questions raised.
      ---
      ### **1. The Sanctification of God’s Name (Matthew 6:9)**
      - **The Argument**: Jesus instructs His followers to pray for God’s name to be sanctified, suggesting that knowing and using God’s name is essential to fulfilling this command. If we do not use His name, how can it be sanctified?
      #### **Logical Perspective**:
      - **What Does "Sanctify" Mean?**
      - The Greek word translated as "sanctify" (hagiazo) means to set apart as holy, honor, or revere. It doesn’t explicitly require frequent verbal use of the name but implies honoring God's character, reputation, and holiness.
      - Sanctification could involve how we live, worship, and represent God rather than just verbally saying His name.
      - **Does Knowing the Name Alone Fulfill the Command?**
      - Many Bible translations use titles like "Lord" or "God" in place of the Tetragrammaton (YHWH), but this doesn’t necessarily diminish respect for God’s character.
      - Example: Ancient Jews avoided pronouncing God’s name out of reverence, yet they were considered faithful worshippers.
      - **Jesus’ Practice**:
      - Nowhere in the Gospels is Jesus recorded using the Tetragrammaton explicitly. If Jesus viewed verbal use of God’s name as crucial, why didn’t He set an example by using it directly?
      - Instead, Jesus emphasizes relationship ("Our Father") and reverence over pronunciation.
      ### **2. "I Have Made Your Name Known" (John 17:26)**
      - **The Argument**: Jesus states that He made God’s name known, which might imply the need for verbal use of the divine name.
      #### **Logical Perspective**:
      - **"Name" as More Than a Word**:
      - In biblical context, "name" often signifies one’s character, authority, and reputation rather than just a literal term (Proverbs 22:1).
      - When Jesus said He made God’s name known, it likely refers to revealing God’s character, purposes, and authority through His teachings, miracles, and actions, not necessarily verbal repetition of the Tetragrammaton.
      - **Jesus’ Audience Already Knew God’s Name**:
      - The Jews Jesus spoke to already knew YHWH from the Hebrew Scriptures. Jesus’ mission was not to reintroduce the pronunciation of God’s name but to deepen understanding of God’s nature and will.
      ### **3. The JW Translation Rule: Should "Jehovah" Be Used in the New Testament?**
      - **The Argument**: The JWs believe God's name, Jehovah, should be inserted into New Testament passages that clearly reference Old Testament texts containing the Tetragrammaton.
      #### **Logical Perspective**:
      - **Reasonableness of the Rule**:
      - On the surface, it seems reasonable to include "Jehovah" in quotes or allusions to Old Testament texts where YHWH appears, as this maintains continuity between the Testaments.
      - Example: Romans 10:13 quotes Joel 2:32, where YHWH is used. Including "Jehovah" could clarify the source and context of the quote.
      - **Potential Issues**:
      - **Manuscript Evidence**: No existing Greek New Testament manuscripts include the Tetragrammaton. Adding "Jehovah" is therefore an editorial decision not supported by the oldest texts.
      - **Interpretative Bias**: Translators might insert "Jehovah" where it fits their theology, even if the context points to Jesus (e.g., Philippians 2:10-11, quoting Isaiah 45:23 about YHWH but applied to Jesus).
      - **Consistency Problem**:
      - If we strictly follow the JW rule, certain New Testament passages would identify Jesus as Jehovah. For instance, John 12:41 connects Isaiah’s vision of YHWH’s glory (Isaiah 6:1-5) with Jesus. Would this mean Jesus is Jehovah? JWs reject this implication.
      ### **4. Practical Application of Using God’s Name**
      - **Does Verbal Use of "Jehovah" Matter?**:
      - While using God's name (YHWH) can demonstrate respect for His identity, sanctifying God’s name ultimately involves living in a way that honors Him (1 Peter 2:12).
      - The emphasis should be on reflecting God’s character and bringing glory to His name through actions, not just verbal repetition.
      ### **5. Conclusion**
      - **Sanctification of God’s Name**: The sanctification of God’s name in Matthew 6:9 is about honoring His character and reputation, not necessarily frequent verbal use of "Jehovah."
      - **Jesus’ Use of the Name**: In John 17:26, Jesus made God’s "name" known by revealing His character, authority, and purposes, not by reintroducing the Tetragrammaton.
      - **The JW Translation Rule**: Including "Jehovah" in New Testament passages referencing Old Testament texts can clarify context but lacks manuscript support and can lead to theological inconsistencies.
Ultimately, the sanctification of God’s name involves both knowledge of His identity and living in alignment with His will, rather than focusing solely on verbal usage.

Repeatedly saying someone's name does NOT in any way, shape or form mean that name is exalted friend.
When Jesus said HE made the Father's name known, it does not, nor did it ever mean that Jesus walked around saying "Jehovah, Jehovah, Jehovah" Repeatedly everywhere He went. Not at all.
When Jesus said that, it means as it says, Jesus made known, He MANIFESTED the Name if God.. to come in someone's name means that Jesus took upon HimSELF the characteristics. Qualities and attributes if the Father.
Jesus MANIFESTED the LOVE of the Father, the GRACE of the Father, the FORGIVENESS of the Father... Jesus manifested power over the weather on the sea of Galilee, Jesus HEALED the leper,, made well the sick and Jesus RAISED the dead..
      This is what that means.
Jesus has made the Father's name "KNOWN"..

@marcelocampbell1679 Hi there! I would agree with what some have said in the thread here- that when Jesus talks about making God's name known, he really has in mind God's character, identity, nature, and purpose, etc. It doesn't necessarily mean he went around teaching people about the tetragrammaton. He certainly could have, I suppose, but we don't have a record of that anywhere in the gospels. More than anything, Jesus addressed God as "Father" and that seems to be the example he wants us to follow.
As far as the rule about importing the Divine Name back into the New Testament whenever it's quoting from the Old... while I think you can make a reasonable argument for that, I'm always going to be on the side of simply accurately translating whatever word is on the page. If it's "Kyrios", let's stick with "Lord", if it's "Theos", let's stick with "God", etc. Those are the terms God chose to inspire the Biblical authors to record, so I think we should keep them. But that's just me. I hope that helps!

20:00 this is a fantastic video, and i appreciate the work you put into this.
i was comparing several translations i have and found something interesting the CJB (Complete Jewish Bible) does import ADONAI on Old Testament quotes and HIS name is in both Romans 14 and Philippians 2.
ESV (English Standard Version) does not reverently capitalize LORD in the New Testament however Lord is contained in both passages. This requires the layperson to do extra foot work of cross referencing to find out if YHWH is present and translated as LORD in Isaiah 45.
TS2009 (The Scriptures 2009) uses YHWH in Hebrew characters ( יהוה ) to avoid translation confusion. In the New Testament יהוה will only be used in direct quotes of the Old Testament. So Romans 14 does contain יהוה however Philippians 2 is a segment quote and borrows specific phrases. So the translators chose to use “Elohim” and “Master”. One other unique thing about The Scriptures 2009 is they print New Testament quotes from the Old Testament in Bold. In Philippians 2 it shows how several phrases from Isaiah 45 are sprinkled throughout but not quoted verbatim like Romans 14.
Just goes to show that every translation is going to take some liberties or have cross references homework to gather better understanding. This is why i think we should read multiple translations. Limiting yourself to only one is very dangerous.

    • @12th_C
      @12th_C 2 месяца назад

@ Tyndale did a great translation for his day. His translation made a lot of advances for the Bible being accessible for the layperson. Tyndale’s translation effectively does the same thing that TS2009 did. It lists God in Romans 14 and Lord in Philippians 2. Tyndale’s translation you have to do the additional work of the cross reference checking. No translation is going to show you everything, you have to earnestly study. In general most translations are pretty serviceable. However reading multiple will give the reader a better understanding of what’s going on.

I get why it’s brought up, though, because some people are quick to correct others, acting like they’ve got it perfectly right. But honestly, the most alarming part of the religion is their claim of being "God’s organization." @MattG171 The cross✝️ is a principal symbol of Christianity, representing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the redeeming benefits of his death.
      Matthew 16:24
      ESV
Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
The carrying of the cross is mentioned in all the canonical Gospels: Matthew 27:31-33, Mark 15:20-22, Luke 23:26-32, and John 19:16-18.
Paul embodies the cross in his ministry, becoming the fragrance of death as he is lead on the triumphal procession (2 Cor. 2:14-17), and he evens says he has been crucified with Christ (Gal 2:20).
Galatians 2:20 says, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me". Matthew 27:37 also supports the idea of a cross rather than a stake when it says; "Above his head they had put the charge against him in writing: 'THIS IS JESUS, KING OF THE JEWS' ".

      15. then God said, once more to Moses: “this is what you are to say, to the Israelites, ‘YeHoVaH, the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name, forever, and how I am to be mentioned from generation from generation.”

    • @theologywithseth
      @theologywithseth  2 месяца назад +4

Philippians 2 is probably my favorite example, but there are others too. Another big one is Hebrews 1:10-12. In that passage, the word "Lord" is used of Christ, even though it's a quotation of Psalm 102:25-27, which is about Jehovah (the Divine Name occurs in the original surrounding context seven times). Another example is 1 Peter 2:3. In that passage, the word "Lord" is used, even though the expression Peter uses comes from Psalm 34:8 which is all about Jehovah. Since their rule includes not only direct quotations, but also "passages, and expressions", you can find several places where they break their rule like that. Hope that helps!

So the Hebrews had no written vowels. Do you accept names such as Jerusalem, Judah, Judea, Jericho, Jerimiah, Jephthah, Jehu, Joshua, Jethro, etc.. Nome of these had any written vowels.
If God was worried about people using his name in vain why is his name mentioned more than the word God. In the Old Testament there are 4 different words translated as God and together that amount to about 2700 times. The single word for the name of God is mentioned over 6800 times. So Gids name is about 3 times more frequent then the word God. Are you sure them that the Jewish superstition about the third commandment is correct? No it is not . God wanted his name known and what his people to call on the name
The best of modern scholarship says that the name YHVH was vocalised as Ye-Ho-VaH. ANd like all name starting with "Y" the latinised translation is to use "J". By the way modern scholarship also say that the vowels of Adonai were not used in forming Jehovah
Also do you accept the name Jesus. That is not his name either. In Greek there is no "J"

The section on where the modern name "Jehovah" comes from is correct in the broad strokes but makes some, to me, rather glaring errors. For example, you seemed to imply that the taboo regarding the divine name predated the masoretes by about 2000 years, or if to be a bit more charitable that it predates something like the leningrad codex by 2000 years. However, that would mean that the taboo predates the composition of nearly all of the tanakh, which I don't think is a widely held position nor one that I think follows from the available evidence.

About the taboo…. by the end of the first century, just before the destruction of the temple, there was a taboo on saying the divine name… I’ve quarter elsewhere on here the tower mode which says a man in front of his brother-in-law, waiting to do the sacrifices, saw the high priest, swallow the name. That means to say, the name under his breath is not public by there there was a taboo beginning on saying it Publicly just beggining. Other traditions or of the rabbis clearly stated not saying the divine in public began at the end of first century but was concealed in secret ceremony and transmitted once every 7 years. with Emperor Hadrian in 250 there was a ban on the name, and they burned a Jew with a Torah, scroll wrapped around him for saying the name publicly. Later on the masora and scribes would translate leaving the vows out, but especially the middle vowel. Apparently they would slip up every now and then. And the mistake was always the same. An O in the middle. 7 times in the Aleppo codex and other times in the Lennongrad Codex. The Hebrewgospel channel lies, and says that the name of the full vowels are not in these manuscripts. Well, maybe you should go to Nehemia Gordon channel and you can let you see it first hand. 7 times so far in the Allepo codex

Full transparency, I am a former witness and I appreciate many of the points you’ve made. As a matter of honesty, I agree with most of your comments. However, you contradicted yourself in the final scripture, (Romans 5:1). Your prior statement said that Jesus is God, but if “every knee should bow to God, in the name of Jesus our Lord”; should it then reads, ‘every knee should bow to Jesus ( who’s God) in the name of Jesus our Lord (God)? What then is the definition of Lord and what is the definition of Christ? In 1 Corinthians 8:5,6) it states that there are “many lords”, so Jesus is distinct in that he is ‘the Christ’, (the Anointed One). As a matter of fact, Parliament representatives in the British government are referred to as lords and are serving in the ‘House of Lords’. So, for full transparency I agree that the Witnesses are deeply flawed in their renderings of many scriptures and are guilty of misrepresenting the scripture for their own convenience and purpose. We agree there, still you must re-examine your conclusion of Christ not without proper context, but not through the lens of the argument made by the Witnesses, rather with the facts of the Bible.

Hi @DRealRevolutionary! Thank you for your thoughtful comment. As a Trinitarian, I believe that the one true God exists in three distinct Persons, revealed to us as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Because they are not all the same Person, there can be verses where the Father and Son are mentioned side-by-side, without denying the Deity of either of them. So to paraphrase Philippians 2:11, I would understand it as saying, "Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is God the Son to the glory of God the Father". First, let me say I understand why you would think that. So sincerely, what happening her?
. There was much debate because of lack of Hebrew understanding in sentence structure.and grammar. It actually in Hebrew is a rhetorical Question. Tons of the grammar in the old testament, Hebrew could be translated as Rhetorical questions. And right there is a perfect example. I’ll share an accurate translation of that verse. Almost no Bible translates it correctly. There is a female Hebrew scribe in modern day Israel, who is a master at this type of translation. She’s rare because she’s female. But she’s an extremely talented linguist with deep insight. I heard a good interview with her, and what she said shed some real insight into the language translation process of Hebrew. So, without further talking, let me translate it for you.
      Ex 6:2,3
Then God said to Moses: “I am Yehovah. I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God, Almighty, and with regard to my name, Yehovah; did I not make myself known to them?
I mean, we can also deduced by the context in Genesis when Abraham was speaking to the three angelic messengers. He referred to them as Yehovah, …he knew the name.
so sometimes translation errors take time to clear up. It requires patience on our part. Sometimes we don’t have an explanation and this is where we actually can grow and learn. There actually is in Hebrew, tradition,,that when there appears to be a contradiction, that’s when the real insights come into God‘s word….. synthesis. A new understanding can emerge, and it’s actually an opportunity. Of course, these days Some will say “see the Bible contradicts itself! “And they storm off doing whatever they want to do. But those who are slightly more sly and perceptive know this isn’t true…. Real knowledge is too high for fools.
      Anyway, I hope that’s helpful.

Whenever I’ve asked this to JWs they have told me Jehovah is the English pronunciation and Yahweh was the Hebrew pronunciation. In my mind those don’t marry up. And if the God of Bible introduces himself as Yahweh why change that name to something else. Names have meaning and it is extremely clear in the Bible that names mean something and they symbolize a person’s/entity’s nature. There are hard to pronounce regions in the Bible that are intact why tell someone you’re using an “English translation” of the name of God if the original names of places can be used. Jesus is our example. He taught us to pray to: "Our Father." (See Mt 6:9) Jesus, the Son, called his God and Father, “Abba, Father", (Poppa, Daddy) Mark 14:36. Jesus told his disciples: "You will be witnesses of ME" Not "Jehovah's Witnesses." He said that his followers have only ONE LEADER the Christ. JW's teach the commands of men, not God. "Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.'" Isa 29:13. Today "Human Rules" also wrongly teach that Jesus Is God. Jesus did not ask himself to deliver himself! But rather Jesus, face down in the dirt, begged his Father to "Remove this cup" then added "But not my will but yours." Jesus is not God Almighty. In fact, Jesus now sits in heaven at God's right hand awaiting the day when God puts Jesus' enemies beneath his feet! Finally God's Son, the second Adam, although wounded in the heel, will Crush the head of Satan and all of his followers. Gen 3:15, 1 Corinthians 15:45-49, Eph 1:20

The LORD GOD speaks in the plural for a specific purpose. Genesis 1:26 states, "Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness". In this verse God is referring to Himself along with God his Son and Holy Spirit, when He says "us" and "our". God is not referring to angels here because angels are created beings, not creator.
The Bible teaches that God is the only creator, and that he created everything that exists:
John 1:3: "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made".
Romans 1:20: "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made".
Isaiah 45:18: "I am the Lord; and there is none else".
The Bible's opening verse: Communicates that God is the creator of the heavens and earth. "There is no other God except me" appears in the Bible in Isaiah 45:21. The Holy Trinity is Yahweh. The name of the triune God is YHWH , there is no other. Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: "Jesus" is the name of God revealed in the New Testament. Jesus name means: YHWH saves.

    • @shortflims2165
      @shortflims2165 2 месяца назад

@BasicBiblicalTruth It's good to respect the God divine name. In the Old Testament, people eventually came to believe that mispronouncing the name of God was the same as taking the Lord's name in vain. This led to them stopping pronouncing the name of God altogether, and instead using more generic terms for God. The New Testament (NT) doesn't use God's personal name because it's written in Greek, and the name Yahweh is Hebrew. In the Old Testament, Yahweh is translated as "Lord" in English because of a Jewish tradition of avoiding God's name. When the Old Testament was translated from Hebrew to Greek, the translators used the Greek word kurios, which also means "lord", to translate both Yahweh and adonai.
However, the NT does use the term "God" to refer to the divine nature, and there are several instances where Jesus is explicitly called God. For example, Jesus took the divine name "I AM" for himself, and he said that the way to the Father is through him.

The problem with the name Jehovah is that you’re not saying it. The Biblia of Hebrecia. Stuttgart… The authors Gesenius.. Source for the name Yahweh is Theodore of siring. Fourth of the century he got it from the Samaritans, who never use God’s name, but had a temple set up to start from being attacked by killer lines. The name on the temple said anonymous. That is until Epiphanies put the god Jupiter, and they readily accepted it because they were not really Jews but transported by the Syrians. Translate it into English it’s Jupiter. That’s where the name Yahweh comes from. Congratulations! You’re worshiping Jupiter. Theodore didn’t realize that. in fact, in the antiquities of the Jews, you can see the letter they wrote… They did not use the divine name because actually, that was the law it was only to be called in Jerusalem.
But about ancient Hebrew grammar, the most accurate Kodex, for Hebrew is the Aleppo. It was written I am master scribe in 924CE in the area of Tiberius records. Confirm original Hebrew was still being spoken not the Aramac influence Hebrew. It is a very solid very accurate. Almost every free translation.
A basic rule in ancient Hebrew grammar is, you cannot have a consonant in the middle of a word. It must have a vowel associated with it. Exception to that rule is a consonant that ends a syllable. In this case a silent-Shva is used. Ie Asahel
The first ‘hay’(H) does not have a vowel!… According to the Talmud an oral tradition in the fourth century, they try to change the word le-olam forever… From exo 3: 15. That’s because it was the secret of the vowels concealed in that word. Thought it was secret has been found in many ancient documents, which say it was not lost, but was hidden. So the Talmud in the fourth century says let’s change the vowels to le(ha-)alim “ to conceal”. Did you get that? To conceal. They were hiding gods name by hiding the vowels… Especially the middle Vowel komatz. .. in the Talmud, which is the oral law from the first century, before Rome destroyed the temple. It’s written by Rabbi tarfon. he overheard the priestly blessing which is outlined in the law to bless people using Gods name…..
” I want to send it the platform after my mothers brother, and inclined my ear to the high priest, and heard him swallowing the name during the chanting of his priests”
Babylonian, Talmud kidishin 71a Sonono trans…compare the Jerusalem, Talmud Yoma 3:7 40d. The kidishin on page 71 a says “ sages transmit the four letter name to their disciples once in a seven year period.
It’s pretty obvious they are hiding the name. But if we simply follow that rule above that I showed you for ancient Hebrew grammar. It’s logical when you see the names Yeho Shua..YeHoVaH saves. Yeho-achaz…. then they also use the back part of the name even today and names like Nyeton yahoo… they are contractions of Gods, holy name…. which, according to traditional ancient Hebrew grammar, must have a vowel and fits perfectly with the names that insert the O in English. And we’re obviously spoken and come in every day usage in the Times of Israel.… how do we know?
Well, an exodus 315 it actually does not say “This is the memorial of me “or the memory… Like a funeral… But “the mention of me…” Something that is living and ongoing.
Also, they found the Lachish letters of the Babylonian invasion… The Hebrew general his letter was found… In it, they found the contraction of gods name contained in the contraction. It’s part of the expression found often in the Bible, as” as Jehovah lives.”
Lives is “chay” ( pronounced like high)…chay-HO-VaH….as YeHoVaH. Besides, these things, there are over 1000 manuscripts now found that have the full vowels E O A shva cholam kamatz. Besides, the personal letters that were never transcribed in the dark ages between rabbis making reference to the three vowels and being very careful to conceal it. It makes complete sense, whereas the evidence you’re providing in the video contradicts everything that’s been found. I’ll admit if nobody’s told you this, of course, you may think Yahweh is correct. But as I said, you can read the antiquities of the Jews, and see what the situation was in the letter that the Samaritans wrote to Epiphanius. The Samaritans never had a name on their temple, because this was according to the law… But afterwards they started calling their God by the name, yupiter or father Jupiter

      Yes, it is.
Isaiah 45:23 says, “By myself I have sworn; The word has gone out of my mouth in righteousness, And it will not return: *To me every knee will bend, Every tongue will swear loyalty”* (NWT). The NWT obscures the connection with Philippians 2 with their word choice in translation but let’s look at the Greek LXX. Pay attention to the highlighted part, ἐμοὶ *κάμψει πᾶν γόνυ καὶ ἐξομολογήσεται πᾶσα γλῶσσα* τῷ θεῷ.
Paul cites this verse in the Carman Christi of Philippians 2 in vv. 10-11 saying, “so that in the name of Jesus *every knee should bend* -of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, *and every tongue should openly acknowledge* that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.” The highlighted part in Greek says, παν γονυ καμψη...καὶ πᾶσα γλῶσσα ἐξομολογήσηται.
Paul began by stating in v. 9 that Jesus has "the name that is above every name." This is not “Jesus” as the name was very common, nor is it YHWH (Jehovah) which he already possessed (Isa 6:3, 5; cf. John 12:41). Rather, Jesus is given a name in terms of public acclaim, echoing the name Jehovah made for himself after delivering Israel from Egypt (Neh 9:10).
Paul proceeds to cite a Jehovah passage from Isaiah 45:23 (evident in Greek) where Jehovah declares that every knee will bow to him and every tongue confess. However, Paul attributes this to Jesus and proclaims that every person will declare that Jesus is κυριος, thereby equating Jesus with θεος in Isaiah 45:23-calling him Jehovah.
Willingly or unwillingly, every creature in the universe will acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus. “Paul’s LXX citation (Isa 45:23) reflects the familiar OT theme, that at the consummation of the age all creatures will bow down and worship Yahweh…the link in our text between Jesus as κύριος and OT YHWH can hardly be disputed”[1] but this is exactly what JW’s do, not because they are faithful to the text, but because their theology demands it.

I just did a couple of quick searches on Bible Gateway. Jehovah is found seven times in the King James Bible. In the American Standard Version Jehovah is found, get this, five thousand eight hundred fifty one(5851) times! 😲 There is a one hundred year+ old ASV Bible sitting on one of my book shelves collecting dust because I've tried to read it but just can't. Mainly because of all the times that Jehovah is used. It just seems to rub my spirit the wrong way. I pretty much stick to the KJB.

Greetings Seth, I appreciate your effort however, "Yahweh" is also a modern expression of the YHVH. The letter "W" was introduced in the 19th Century. Incidently; the letter "w" was invented by the French scholars. We cannot say "...most likely..." - This is not conclusive but speculative
HalleluYah cannot become Jehovah or Yahweh because it is linguistically dishonest and of man tampering with the YHVH.
In the Hebrew language the "V" merely becomes a transponder for the vowel sound of the next consonant...As an example; consider Benjamin NathanYaho's name "NathanYaho(u)...Consider Elijah (EliYaho), Isaiah (YashaYaho), Jeremiah (YirmeYaho), Nehemiah (NechemYaho) and many other Hebrew names🛐🕎📜📖🐑

Jehovah's Witnesses foolishly and pharisaically treat the use of the world "Jehovah" as a magic talisman. The word "Jehovah" has no more power than the word "God" or "Lord". Neither determine how close one can get with God. How close one can get with God is determined by knowing his personality and character through studying the Bible - not from knowing and using a particular word.
Secondly, since the actual Hebrew name of God describes his character. Then really, knowing God's name is actually about knowing his character. Thus every student of the Bible who learns that God is the grand Creator and Purposer whose will cannot be thwarted, actually knows God's name - whether or not they use the word "Jehovah"; whether or not they call him "LORD".
The utter, shallow idiocy of JW theology!

No, the Jewish scribes knew Almighty God's name...out of respect for Exodus 3: 15. ' This is my name forever.' God himself had made his name known...read Exodus! Exodus 3: 15, does have the full vowels of Yehovah, in the ancient manuscripts, Dr Gordon, has scrutinized.
I would recommend that you pay attention to the modern day Hebrew Bible scholar , and archaeologist- Dr Nehemia ( Nehemiah ) Gordon. He studied in an Israel University.
Nehemia states that every spoken language contains vowels, so they knew the oral pronunciation , and the vowels ..he's come across are Hebrew vowels, in numerous ancient Hebrew manuscripts, and these provide us with the centuries old name which in English is Jehovah. Centuries of history have documented this name ....with the weighty evidence on minted coins, artifacts and architecture.

    Hey, Seth,
I think we need to be fair with JWs regarding the pronunciation of the divine name. I think "Jehovah" is an acceptable pronunciation of the divine name.
The main issues are 1) their insertion of the divine name in BOTH the OT and NT in places where the tetragrammaton isn't found. Yes, the NWT has inserted the divine name even in the OT where the tetragrammaton isn't found.
    2) they inconsistently insert the divine name into the NT, as you said, imposing their own theology onto the text rather than letting their theology being informed by the text.
    3) If the divine name was originally in the NT, then there is absolutely no reason to trust the NT, as you said. JWs want to have their cake and eat it too, claiming the NT is accurate by appealing to the multiplicity of NT mss while, at the same time, claiming the NT mss have been deliberately corrupted by scribes, who removed the divine name. In north Africa the church almost had a riot because Jerome changed the word of the plant in Jonah 4:6 word gourd to ivy in his Latin translation. If Christians got this upset over something so little because they felt that Jerome was changing the Word of God, how much more issue would Christians take to removing the divine name?! There is no evidence that the divine name has been removed from the NT, so to claim it has been removed is to claim we cannot trust the NT mss, thus we have no idea what the NT originally said.
    4) Finally, Nowhere in NT are we instructed to pray using the divine name, rather we are instructed to pray to the Father in the name of Jesus and to Jesus himself in his own name.
These are the real problems with the name Jehovah.

"Ear" is not the same word for "body" in either Hebrew or Greek. The LXX uses the word ὠτία, which means-you guessed it-ear!
Second, the Syriac Sinaitic does NOT have the divine name. This is another lie. (See THE TETRAGRAMMATON and the CHRISTIAN GREEK SCRIPTURES, p. 127)

My friend, finding manuscripts with Gods name would make no sense?!….what twisted reasoning. It would lead to the elephant in the room..God is not a trinity. Making perfect sense. Half of the old testament is quoted in the new. Its unthinkable that Jewish Christians of the first century did not use Gods name. They didnt need to use a septuagint in Isreal because they read and wrote Hebrew and Aramaic in everyday life. The dead sea scrolls near the time of christ demonstrates the name throughout as well as Hebrew manuscripts and even a few Greek with the Hebrew name YeHoVaH in it in some Greek texts of the gospels See Nehemiah Gordon……with your own eyes. In fact in Hebrew Matthew, it appears more times than the new world translation has it inserted. So in fact they didnt insert it enough! That being said, about Gods name…..on the other hand the NWT does engage in deceptive slight of hand on other issues…….very deceptive….about the 144,000 doctrine and other sheep and a faithful and discreet slave….definitely they manipulate their bibles and in Matthew chapter 24….separating verses that are not separated in the original greek to deceptively convince people of the false 1914 doctrine

@@Mr.DC3.1914 Are you insane? Do you see an O or V in YHWH (יְהוָה)?
-Medieval scribes known as Masoretes are responsible for the vowel markings (or points) found in the manuscripts used for most modern printed copies of the Hebrew Bible. The tetragrammaton is typically marked in Masoretic Hebrew manuscripts as yhwh-a form that seems as if it should be pronounced “yehovah” or “jehovah.” However, the “pronunciation is grammatically impossible” in the Hebrew (Hirsch, “Jehovah,” 7:87). The written form yhwh is an example of a qere and kethiv, where the vowels indicate a reading that differs from what is written (Kelley, Mynatt, and Crawford, Masorah, 41). With yhwh, the vowel markings for אֲדֹנָי (adonay, “Lord”) have been placed under the consonants of the divine name yhwh to signal the reader to say adonai wherever yhwh appeared in the text.

      Nehemiah Gordon's claims are false.
For the Yehovah pronunciation to be correct, one would expect to see the consonantal form written as יהווה, but no such a form has ever been found - including in the Dead Sea Scrolls. As for the pointed text, we know the Masoretes applied the wrong vowels, thus forming the hybrid Yehowah, so that the divine name wouldn't be spoken. Even so, if one were to assume against the evidence that the Masoretes changed the consonantal form to יהוה, then for the Yehovah pronunciation to be preserve the consonantal 'v', the pointed form would have to be written as יְהֹוָה instead of יְהוָֹה.
In the Septuagint, יהוה (Yhvh) is transliterated as Ἰαβέ by both Theodoret and Epiphanius, pointing us to the correct pronunciation, which favours יַהְוֶךְ (Yahweh).
Gordon's thesis has been rejected far and wide. You can find rebuttals at Associates for Biblical Research and others.
The Christian Apologetics Research Ministry (CARM) has also done a rebuttal of Gordon's claims about uncovering the original text of Matthew’s Gospel in Hebrew.
The only Hebrew manuscripts Gordon has found are medieval _translations_ from over 1,000 years after the New Testament was written.
