- Hi everyone,
Sharing how easy it is to re stick the cricut mats. Be sure to use the glue called Aleene's Tack it over and over glue (using a coupon or course) Hope you enjoy
Hugs, Stacy
Stacy,
I love your video tutorials. You are very patient and give a lot of detail.
Thank you,
Denise
I do all your steps till the glue part. After cleaning the mat, I use goo gone as well works terrific! I take cheap brand of petroleum Jelly and go around the edges the part you don't want sticky then take my mat outside to my paint box with newspaper lining the bottom and use the 3M General purpose 45 spray, its repositionable spray adhesive. Works great and lasts longer than the original mate sticky. I use the Petroleum Jelly on the edges to protect the rollers from picking up any glue on them. Let the mat sit for an hour or so, I have several extra mats so I try and leave them over night, but its not necessary. Then I use a baby wipe to remove the petroleum Jelly and I'm ready to do!
I've done this for my expression mats for a couple of years now. I just got my explore and found your videos to help, I can't believe cricut has gotten so lazy they rely on their customers to share what they've learned instead of give us a guide with a machine as expensive as the Air. Thank you so much for your video's I"m sure had I not found the I'd be boxing my Air up and taking back to the store another unsatisfied customer. Now, I'm a happy camper!
+Deb Spangler
Hi Deb,
Thanks so much for the tip with the Petroleum Jelly, I will be trying that for sure! If you visit my website at lovethatbug.com, there is a page for Cricut pages, to where you can download the user manual. I am so happy you are finding my videos helpful, I really do appreciate it.
Hugs, Stacy
+Stacy Williams have your page bookmarked now, thank you. I'm sure I'll be visiting it a lot as cricut is about as useful as a tick on the back of a hog! They really got lazy with information. In fact, I've already sent a few emails to Cricut on the subject. I asked about the image count in design space under cartridges .... they said that the number included all the layers. But if you look some do some don't, then there are the ones that I think have the shadow as one image and the layer as the other IE: Summer Love, which I own the cartridge and it doesn't appear like it does in design space and there's no explanation go figure.
@@debspangler8508 I love your truth meter! I've a Brother ScanNCut2 which comes w/its own baggage, similarly! And I couldn't agree w/ya more! Love the fat tick reference.. Heehee

@@lovingmyselfwell4569 Have you used this method for resticking your Scan N Cut Mats? I just got a Scan N Cut, and the mat was so sticky I could not get my paper off. I had to scrape it, so that pretty much ruined certain spots on the mat.
Did this over the weekend! Amazing! Cut out some letters to test it and wow! I love this! Thank you so much! Also made some glue dots!
Excellent! Thank you SO much! The very 1st time w/my Brother ScanNCut2 the entire mat was covered in finely stuck cardstock! How annoying don't even get me started. I'm very thankful for your share because solutions is where its at, not complaining but seeking remedy! And THIS is certainly one for the books, thanks! Though I agree w/the other commentor that these manufacturers have grown quite disinterested in crossing their I's & dotting their t's... Heehee

Hi Shannon
Thank you so much
I agree completely about the manufacturers

I have tried other mat cleaning methods and none of them have worked as well as this one.!! Yes, you have to make an initial investment to keep your mat clean, but it is well worth it! buying the cleaning products go along way and will definitely save a lot of money when it comes to buying new mats. Thank you for that video!!
I have mats 12 years old. I strictly cut with my Cricut for scrapbook pages. I have never used any glues or harsh cleaner on mine. I sprayed with Totally awesome, removed any residue, rinsed & hung to dry. Sticky like new & I’ll keep on crafting. 😁
I think the old mats were made different and the new ones might get ruined by the awesome spray, or so I heard.
@@ale347baker I have mine 6 days, they are not sticky after a card stock project.
Great cricut restick idea. I do like too how you shared your tips for cleaning the mats before they get to non stick place. Awesome video as always filled with lots of info
Hi Sandy,
Thank you. I am happy you found the video helpful
Hugs, Stacy
I did this. It works....since i am hooked on all your videos you have been keeping me busy. Luv the things you are sharing. I am so busy i dont see much of hubby. Lol.
Hi Jennifer,
Happy it worked, sorry about the hubby LOL
Hugs, Stacy
If you want to stop glue tub lids from sticking, get anything that has silicone as a component, such as some polishes or as I used WD40. Spray onto a kitchen towel and wipe it around the top of the lid i.e the lid threads and it will always come off easy.
Thanks for the Video.
+darkan99el
Hi,
Thank you, that is a great tip

Thank you so much! I only have 2 Imagine mats that came with the machine and after 4 cuts it just stopped working! This is the tutorial I've been hoping for, thank you so much!
Hi Kate,
You are very welcome!
Hugs, Stacy
Hey Stacy
I do the same thing only I just take an old brush..wet it down with water and then grab a glob of glue and paint that on all over but the edges. I keep doing it till it's all the same all over and it works great. Really sticky. It's nice to see at least that you do it in a similar way. with an extra step. But everything else is the same. LOL

Hi Pat,
I like your idea as well. Thanks for sharing
Hugs, Stacy
Thank you for sharing this info with us Stacy !!!!!!
Hi Ginette
You are very welcome
Hugs Stacy
That was very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing! Had to laugh that it looks like you used a government CAC card to scrape the old stuff off! LOL
Hi
Happy you enjoyed it. LOL I actually used an old base ID that my hubby had, but if I had a government ID I would of definitely used that to scrape the gunk off 😀
Hugs Stacy
Thank you soooooooooo much for your suggestion..... works awesome for me
Thank you, so happy it worked for you
Hugs, Stacy
Suggestion: Run painter's tape along the edges before applying glue to avoid having to be fussy about applying the glue and the bit of build-up that can occur on the edge. You end up with a clean edge of tack.
Hi Connie,
That is a great tip, thank you so much
Hugs, Stacy
Just for others info. I did this on my scan n cut mat, however watered down didn’t work too well, but neat aleens worked a treat
Hi Denise Fissel,
Thank you so much
Hugs, Stacy
i realize I am quite randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to stream newly released series online?
@Abdullah Daniel i would suggest Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Brantley Bode Yea, I've been using flixzone for years myself =)
@Brantley Bode Thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service =) I appreciate it !!
@Abdullah Daniel no problem xD
can the leftover in the jar be reused again if sealed tightly instead of wasting product?
HI Krystalyn,
Yes, you can put the leftover right back in the jar
Hugs, Stacy
Thanks for the hints. I was given a Cricut Expressions yesterday for my non profit group. Just trying to figure out how it works.
Hi Carol,
I hope you try. I have doing it this way for years
Thank you so much Hugs, Stacy
Thanks for the heads up on how to restick my mat.
Hi LB
You are very welcome
Hugs, Stacy
I like this method. I have used it before.
It does work well
Hugs, Stacy
Would this work for the Cricut fabric mats as well?
Thank you so much! Would you recommend for a light drip to dilute it with more water ??
missBOSS
You are very welcome. You mean light grip? Yes, I would play around, maybe try 1 pt glue to 2 parts water
Hugs, Stacy
Thank you. With the Cricut Joy, you burn through your mats quickly...
I'm new to this, but I just bought a spray bottle of Krylon easy tack repositionable adhesive spray, and l also read that Aileens spray may work as well. Have you tried these? Would you use the same process with the goo gone first as well?
Your way seems like there is more control over the amount of product and stick you put on.
Fabulous!!!
Hi Lisa
Thank you so much
Hugs Stacy
I'm a new subby and look forward to watching your vids. TFS
Hi Judy,
Welcome to my channel and thank you for subscribing. I hope you will continue to enjoy my videos

I did this to my mat a few years ago and it worked great! After it has dried do you make it less sticky so it doesn't rip the paper by putting your hand on and off the mat?
Hi.
Yes, when it is dry it is usually really sticky, I just take a tshirt to it to remove some of the stickiness
Hugs, Stacy
Hi Stacey, Thanks for the video! Helpful :) How long do you let it dry for once you've applied the glue to the mat? Thanks,Blessy
Hi Blessy,
Thank you so much. It usually takes about an hour or so before it is dried. Then it is REALLY sticky, so I will pat my hands on the mat
Hugs, Stacy
Have you ever tried running a piece of paper through a xyron machine with a repositional tape roll on a Cricut Mat to see if it would stick while it ran through the machine while it cut out the shape?
So all I have to do is get tacky glue and dilute it with water a bit and then apply it to the mat? I have tacky glue from dollar tree and it’s in a gold brown tube, with that work
Hi,
The glue has to say tack it over and over or repositionable on it in order for it to work
Hugs, Stacy
Hi Stacy! Thank you for your videos...Do you have one for making your own glue dots? I did a quick search but came up with nothing. Thank you!!! :)
Monica Wilds
Hi Monica,
You are very welcome and thank you! I will do a video on making glue dots soon
Hugs, Stacy
hi.. may i ask.. if you are able to use a brandnew mat 100 times.. how
many times will you be able to use this redone one? is it good as new?
or maybe 50 times? thanks
I am able to use it for quite a long time, almost like a brand new mat
Hugs, Stacy
thank you very much stacy. that is very helpful.. i am from overseas and aileens is not available.. so i just had to ask first. i just ordered now. thank you very much. appreciate your tips :D
Question, is this method ok for fabrics like felt?
Hi Matthew,
Do you mean once the mat is sticky can you use felt on it? If so, yes you can. Although the mat will be extremely sticky so I would recommend taking an old t-shirt to it first to sort of de-stick it, this way the felt wont stretch when taking it off the mat. Hope this helps
Hugs, Stacy
@@staccreates thank you so much my wife does a lot of felt work and I wanted to help figure out a way to lengthen the lifespan of her mats. 😄
I'm going to be trying this. After your mat loses its sticky again do you wash it or redo the glue procecc ?
I try to wipe with a baby wipe in between cuts, that makes the mat stickier. But, yes once it is no longer sticky, I will wash and redo the glue
@@staccreates Thank you! I tried this and it kinda worked, but not great. I ended up just buying a new mat. I appreciate you video.
Can i use any kind of glue like school glues?
Hi Kram
Unfortunately no you cannot. It has to be a glue that is repositionable
Hugs Stacy
May i know the exact name of the glue that you used in the video?
Hi
It is called Aleenes Tack is over and over. You can find it on Amazon www.amazon.com/d/Liquid-Glues/Aleenes-Tack-Over-Liquid-Glue/B00178QQ84/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544636681&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=aleenes+tack+it+over+and+over+glue&dpPl=1&dpID=41nIsoJkxrL&ref=plSrch
Hugs Stacy
Instead of the glue, I use Loctite 100 Lite adhesive spray.
Hi Peggy,
That is a good idea, and probably a lot quicker too
Hugs, Stacy
Do u think i could use this for making the old school self adhesive pages for a photo album?????
Hi,
You probably could. If you apply it to the album the same way it will be sticky enough to hold the photos
Hugs, Stacy
Hi stacy.my name is Bonnie. I'm new to cricut explore and I'm trying to learn how to make a family photo of my daughter's or dog a iron shirt or bag.can you please help.i have the cricut explore.
Do I have to let my mats dry overnight before I put the glue on?
just make sure the mat is thoroughly dry maybe a couple of hours is all.
Hi Stacy
Thanks for the video. I will be working mostly with strong grip matt. Is this as sticky at that or is there a different recipe to make the grip stronger?
Thanks
Hi Willy
When I restock my mats this way I think they are extremely sticky. I would say yes
Hugs Stacy
Hi Stacy was wondering if you could make a video on how to download the update from the Cricut Explore that was done today, Ive got a Mac and Ive tried several times and dont know what Im doing wrong !!! When I go back into my Cricut Design Space its starts with, Click Download Plugin grrrr so its not working must be missing something
Hi Lucy,
Sorry I can't be of any help. I don't have a Mac (yet). I would call cricut I am sure they can walk you through it and get you up and running
Hugs, Stacy
Can i use tacky glue
If the glue is not available in my area, what other glue can we use?
Hi Ern
You can also use a glue called Zig 2 way glue with a wide tip. Search RUclips and you will see videos of it. I plan on doing one soon
Hugs Stacy
Hi Stacey I was want looking for the Aleene's tackn it over and over glue and they no longer sale that so what do you think I should look for now because your this was made in 2014
amazon
Michelle Ford amazon sells it
Great tip Stacy! But where do you get your Alene's tack it over and over? I've never seen it in my neck of the woods.
Thanks Brenda,
I found mine at Joanns
Hope this helps,
Hugs, Stacy
Brenda Lawrence Amazon sells it
For future reference...any ideas where I may have gone wrong? It took the entire purple backing grid off my mat along with the adhesive. Was going to show a pic but couldn't figure out how
Hi Leah
Wow so sorry this happened I am not sure why. Did you clean it with something harsh or did the grid come off after you applied the glue
Hugs Stacy
@@staccreates i used goof off, which was next to goo gone when i bought it in the store. it was just a little cheaper, i had bought it awhile back for something else. it is maximum strength though...so maybe it's a little stronger than goo gone? i just assumed it'd work the same. =( maybe thats what i did wrong.
I am allergic to goo gone what would you say to use instead?
Amanda Vallinga
You can always just scrub with dish soap to remove the sticky or maybe try some cooking oil
Hugs Stacy
I used Awesome from the dollar tree and my cricut scrapper and wiped with a paper towel. Good as new.
@@sherrycolaci7800 without glue after?
@@ale347baker no glue
Hi, i followed all the steps but is not sticky enough, all the materials i want to cut starts to come off when i load it to the machine. HELP~~ I've tried 1:1 of glue and water, 1:2, and even full glue without water (too sticky)
Hi Katherine
This method has always worked for me. Are you sure you are using the right glue? You can also try the Zig two way glue pen that has the wide tip, that works good to
Hugs Stacy
@@staccreates im having the same problem having to use several layers of the glue and dose not last very long
HI, STACY, i live in the uk and can not find any GOO GONE. could you tell me what else i could use. thanks glynis
+Glynis Hampson
Hi Glynis,
If you can't find Goo Gone, you could always take some dish soap and a scrub brush to try to scrub the glue off. Any other adhesive remover should work
Hugs, Stacy
+Glynis Hampson i use a oily tire cleaner.
+lupie G
Hi Lupie,
Great idea. I used to use Brake Cleaner and that worked well too. Thanks for sharing
Hugs, Stacy
odorless mineral spirits should work as well. I use it interchangeably with goo-gone in the shop.
Do you have any suggestion for making the mat covers to protect the mats?
HI,
I would just take a baby wipe to them, or if they are really grungy, just wash with water and let dry
Hugs, Stacy
Stacy Williams hello thanks for replying. I meant something to protect the sticky covers on the mats. I found something that works. I just took some wax paper and covered it after I had cleaned it works like magic.
Ya know after I typed my response, I thought you meant making the covers. Great idea about using wax paper, I will be trying that for sure :)
hugs, Stacy
I would try the press and seal over wax paper. Wax paper has, well, wax on its surface that may affect the stickiness of the cutting mat. Press and seal also won't tear as easily as wax paper. So it would stand up better to pulling it off the mat.
Thanks Stacy I think I finally got it? I think lol , the video wasn't clear : ( thanks
Happy to hear that Lucy,
Hugs, Stacy
How long does it need to dry
Hi Shanika,
I usually leave it overnight
Hugs, Stacy
Why did you start off with one mat and switched to a totally different mat after you washed it ? 🤔🤔
For video purposes to demonstrate for us. She said let it dry completely. She had one ready with the washing done and it was dry for the next step.
Could I use tacky glue?
Hi Dina,
You have to use a repositionable glue, the tacky glue will just dry on your mat
Hugs, Stacy
