The period of rain after the summer solstice is absolutely true. I’ve been keeping tabs on it for the last three or four years. It always rains for a week after the solstice - heavy rain too. It’s an all day, everyday rain, that soaks the Earth completely. I also noticed that we gets more bugs inside the house because of the washout of rain.
My grandfather put a wash basin outside fill it with some water and flowers from the garden (usually roses and peonies) leave it over night then splash his face with the water in the morning to mark the feast of St. John. Now I do it both in his memory and to mark the solstice.
Two years - it seems like yesterday! I was intending to do another Solstice chat this year, but somehow it just didn't happen! Have a wonderful solstice! :) Blessings, Tylluan :-)
@@tylluanpenry3233 Your videos are a blessing Tylluan, still very informative and useful after 8 years. Thank you, and I hope you have a wonderful summer solstice.
I don't consider myself a Pagan or a Wiccan or anything like that, but I do try to mark the ancient festivals in my own way as a nod to our ancestors, to whom these dates were so important in marking the cycle of the year. For Midsummer, I simply light lots of candles to represent the midsummer fires, drink home-brewed mead, and watch a few relevant videos. Thanks for this one.
You're very welcome! I think it's important to celebrate in ways that are meaningful for us. Our ways will surely be different from those of others, but that doesn't matter - and the mead sounds wonderful! Blessings, Tylluan :-)
I would like to first thank you from the deepest parts of my heart for making this. As a solitary myself it is rather difficult for me to find ways to celebrate sabbats on my own. Also...my birthday is on the soltices so I was wondering if you could perhaps tell me if there is any significant things I could do to celebrate both? It would be much appreciated. Again thank you and blessed be dear.
Thank you for a great video. I'm lucky enough to live in a town that was built with the solstice and ley lines in mind. The solstice sun will light up one of our main roads and beam into the shopping centre of all places! We also have a beautiful miniature stone circle and beacon hill. Have a wonderful midsummer.
I love these chats of yours. Im a solitary. My practice is a blending of: bard...ovate/witch...and druid. I dont. Hedge Druid might hest eescribe me. Im always learning, pondering...exploring. This rich layering of things you gift us is much appreciated Love the history of things...the adaptations...the sensiblness. This feels right to me! Really enightening about the ID of pagan beliefs using Christianity as a retrieval tool. Love that. Thank you. Im a subscriber. Gratitudes!
Hi Tylluean! I haven't seen any videos from you for a while so hoping you are well. Just wanted to take a minute to tell you how much I love your channel and videos. They have helped me a lot, i learn a lot, they are inspiring and calming at the same time. I think I've watched them all but go back and rewatch sometimes. You are a gifted teacher. I hope you are well.
I really like watching your videos. On midsummers eve i love to miditate under the tree in my yard. It helps me connect with the nature spirits/fairies
Truly appreciate the love given in your videos! I feel truly guided and you've answered A LOT of my questions. I was wondering if you might do a video on the elements and I'd love to hear your thoughts on ancestor veneration. Much love to you and your adorable dogs (and the silent camera man 😊) xxx
+Diamonds Are Forever I always appreciate suggestions for new talks. I'm rather behind at the moment (and have a heavy cold) but shall certainly bear these in mind! And shall pass your good wishes on to the dogs and the cameraman - I know they'll appreciate them! Blessings, Tylluan :-)
I tend to use the dark of the moon for turning inward (to my own spiritual path) and listening a time for reflection as it were not so much for “banishing” or “hexing”. Kind of like a restful period of learning from within...
Beautiful! Thank you for this interesting piece. What you say about the water...makes me wonder if the water, too, is somehow "rearranging" itself, and preparing for the coming winter...Just a thought. Take care. Kind regards.
Getting hit with Tropical Storm here on Summer Solstice. Still celebrating, but indoors. We have St.John's Eve down here in New Orleans in a few days, voodoo ritual very similar (associated with) Midsummer. Thanks for sharing this! :)
It's strange you should mention the full moon. I don't know if you had any of this in your area, but last week on Friday the 13th which as you must know was a full moon as well, in my area of Reading and all around Berkshire, it became very humid around twilight. Then around mid night we were hit with the most violent storm I have ever seen. It went on for nearly two hours, and I just could not get to sleep until it had cleared. It just seemed so unexpected, and must have been a result of the Full moon so close to Litha, and Friday the 13th which was once the sacred day of the Norse Goddess Freya (Some say Frigg) It was incredible.
Newt - not quite sure what happened here I thought I'd replied to this earlier... probably forgot to press reply or something - sorry! What I was going to say was that I strongly believe the moon phases influence us more than we probably realise, especially at the equinoxes and solstices. We didn't have a bad storm on Friday last, but something has been brewing up here tonight - just waiting for the lightning and thunder! Blessings, Tylluan
Hello Tylluan, thank you for this video, it was very informative. I live in Australia and we have just celebrated Litha (23rd December). We had a full moon on the 25th and in the early morning of the 26th we had very heavy rainfall. So this seems to ring true to what you were explaining. I've never taken particular notice of this before but will endeavour to do so in the coming years. On another note, I am finding it hard to reconcile in my mind the difference between dates in the northern and southern hemispheres the Sabbats and equinoxes fall. To me, it seems strange to be celebrating Litha at Christmas time. I was born in Australia and have never travelled outside of my country, but I feel this pull to the northern hemisphere, particularly the UK. I am not sure if this has something to do with why I feel out of kilter in regards to the celebrations. Just wondering if you would be so kind to share any wisdom or advise you may have on this matter. Thank you.
+Nicole's Pagan Path Hi Nicole, thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed the video. I think it can often be difficult to fit the different dates when you're in the southern hemisphere - to be honest, some years can be difficult in the north too. I think it can be affected by the various energies around us too. As for celebrating Litha in December, I should imagine that is very tricky... especially if all around you people are hanging onto the notion of a northern holiday. But just go with the flow and remember that every season is like changing gears in a car. Your gears may be different from those around you, or from us in the north, but go with your own gut feeling and celebrate however feels best to you! And good luck! Blessings, Tylluan :-)
Tylluan Penry Thank you for your very insightful reply. You have given me much food for thought and will have to spend some time mulling it over, to find what is the best fit for me. Thank you once again for your reply, it means a great deal to me, making a connection with another solitary witch, however small that connection may be. Blessed be, Tylluan :)
You're very welcome! Remember there is never any one-size-fits-all on a spiritual path. I do hope you find a way of celebrating that really speaks to you. Blessings, Tylluan :-)
When you have a full moon at the time of the summer solstice the energies are really ratcheted up to breaking point - too much light for mere mortals! Blessings, TYlluan :-)
I love the idea of the bonfire, and think that this year I will be making clayware during Beltane (when creativity is highly celebrated) and firing them by placing them in the hot coals during or after the fire, to be fired into pottery. How fun would that be? :)
+Greyandgreenfeathers I think it's a lovely idea. The most important thing is to be creative, I' not sure whether the average bonfire would be hot enough to fire clayware (although I suspect Mr Penry's might be!) Have fun - enjoy each and every season! Blessings, Tylluan :-)
+Tylluan Penry definately gets hot enough! As long as your fire is in a hole and you work the clay to ensure no air bubbles are in it (these heat up and can make your pottery crack) www.upinsmokepottery.com/pit-firing.html

That was a great insight! To be honest, on summer solstice, it was raining in Munich and the days after, the sun arrived in full force!
Thankyou so much for the info. Your videos are always helpful for me, being stuck here in NW Minnesota. I look forward to them.
Tracy Lunos You're very welcome - I'm just glad to be able to get information out there for people. Blessings, Tylluan :)
