  • Autonomous driving is coming... Cadillac invited us on a 1200 road trip from New Mexico to Los Angeles to sample their new Super Cruise Control, now available on the 2018 CT6 as part of a $5,000 Super Cruise package. The next step in autonomous driving is here and we came away impressed.

    Along with the rear view mirror camera & assistive parking, this makes an amazing package. Heck, I've owned 6 sports coupes so far, so I enjoy "enthusiast" driving like the next guy, but there are situations like long trips & stop-&-go traffic where this would be nice to have.

    • @skirmich
      @skirmich 7 лет назад

      That is what Adaptive Cruise Control is for...
      This type of technology is USELESS, You still have to focus your mind on the road making sure the car is doing it right.. Its harder to do so when you are literally not involved in driving...

    • @cadsux
      @cadsux 7 лет назад +1

      Tell airlines to stop using autopilot? I agree that you still have to be attentive, quick thinking & plan ahead. With GPS, folks are still getting lost! It's a nice option. I have backup cams & BLIS, but I also look rearward & the sides too. People used to think, why do we to develop space age tech, yet we reap the benefits now. Heck, I don't need seat belts & airbags, cuz I'm a good driver, right?

  • @koshmary112

    True hands-free, a catch phrase from Caddy, to try to distinguish themselves from competitors. Because most people do not have experience with auto pilot in cars, they will buy into it, like this reviewer. It's amazing that caddy manages to design a new tech feature the same way they design their cars, same as it always been for the last half century.

    This is GREAT! I had a 2017 corolla with safetysense (radar + camera cruise control, and camera use for lane keeping) for a rental last weekend. It was so awesome and relaxing being able to set the cruise at like 80 (I was on highways with speed limits of 55 and 70) and as long as the person in front of me wasn't speeding that badly I didn't have to touch the gas/brake pedal except for whenever I came upon a couple traffic lights. Also, the lane keeping was nice.. although personally I think it (in toyota's case at least) could use a tiny bit of work.

    Joshua Johnson considering 99.9% of accidents are caused my human error, id welcome this technology with open arms. Same way you hop in a plane, more than half of the flight is being accomplished by auto pilot. Sure the pilots know how to fly, but autopilot is used a majority of the time, some airlines even require it.

    I understand the apprehension to new tech. When the railroads were first built, common belief was that your muscles and joints could detach over 50mph. I'm sure people preferred horse and carriage over the first cars as well. It's natural, especially the older you are, to be apprehensive to tech. Personally, I trust this tech and believe GM's implementation is vastly superior to Tesla with the eye tracking camera, no need to for dangerous stunts. If the system fails, it still calls your attention and you take over the steering. Looks great!
    Clearly, this is a transition technology so it's not going to appeal to everyone, as many have asked "what's the point?" Personally, I'd love this tech and I'd like to see it in the Volt and others.

    The Government Motors workers can hear everything you say in the car and see who is driving with facial recognition. And it can see everyone in the car, knows who they are and when and where you were going and everything you say to each other. Of course the ONSTAR system can already disable cars and listen to you without you knowing it so it isn't all a new invasion of privacy.
    I love to drive in fact it is one of the greatest pleasure for many people and represents freedom. Soon it will be mandatory to let the computer drive. Another freedom lost. This is a well made review as always but don't turn a blind eye to all we are losing with these shiny new gadgets.

    • @jake1110
      @jake1110 7 лет назад +1

      Completely different tech compared to basic LKA, which all manufactures have had for a long time. LKA simply has cameras to watch the painted markings and helps guide you back. Super cruise uses comprehensive 3D LIDAR maps along with a multitude of cameras and will drive the car for you, controlling all aspects.
      I've test driven one of these and the feature is amazing. I'm an early adopter of tech and if they could take this technology and add it to other GM platforms, I'd be thrilled. Obviously, it's a bridge between manually controlled and autonomous driving(LKA being a precursor to Super Cruise), but it's solid.

    This is definitely a hard thing to come to grips with for me because this and electric/hybrid cars for me signal the end of an era. If and when we get to a point where cars are fully autonomous will they still be making cars for enthusiast. I'm not taking about Lamborghini or any other exotic cars, but fun cars for the average guy like Mustangs, Camaro's, STI's, BRZ's etc. Will this kind of technology begin to kill of cars like these so the only way to have a drivers car is to buy an exotic. And if Mustangs, Camaro's, STI's etc are still here will they be really expensive or decline in price?

      jeffrey625625 Which why I spoke for myself by saying "I have two words for that tech... HELL NO". In other words (so your peanut brain can understand it), I will not be getting that option in any vehicle I ever purchase and if it comes standard, I will not be using it. Where in my comment did I say I didn't know it was "fucking option"? You assumed that all by yourself... Who's the "dummy" now ? You fucking moron...

    I'll keep my 2017 car until it dies. Let anyone offer me this autonomous technology and I'll say no. I just want adaptive cruise control and that's it. I need my hands on the wheel at all times. I don't call this safe whatsoever.

    • @MrCarGuy
      @MrCarGuy 7 лет назад +4

      Omar Hudson That's why this is SAE level 2 and you need to be monitoring the road. When level 3 comes a few years from now, you won't need to monitor.

    • @Brazillianboi69
      @Brazillianboi69 7 лет назад +4

      Omar Hudson it can’t be released to the public if it can malfunction. Imagine how much heat the company would take if someone were to die while using the tech the way it’s supposed to be used ?

    • @bobthebuilder372
      @bobthebuilder372 7 лет назад +1

      I'm sure they design the car to fail safe (they would be insane not to). If one part of the system becomes confused, it will shut off and warn the driver, just like if the driver isn't watching the road. This is incredibly important to Cadillac or any car company. When your cars kill their owners, you go out of business.
      Look up the 40,000 people that died last year on the road, a good chunk of which could have been saved by CMBS and systems like what Cadillac has created here. Arguing that one or two people may have been killed because of bad tech is as pointless. You'll have better luck trying to convince me that it's safer to drive than fly /s

    • @Keithguinn97
      @Keithguinn97 7 лет назад +2

      Do you encourage drivers who know how to drive like myself have this technology? A car with no steering wheel in the coming years and let's not forget that automakers are going to make cars without airbags and seatbelts. For me having an autonomous car, I might as well let someone else pay the car than myself.

  • @dante19x

    I absolutely 100% disagree with you! Being a car enthusiast has nothing to do with liking self-driving cars or not!!! I love driving through the city and back streets or around twisty roads in my Audi but how are you going to defend driving long road trips as being fun. I absolutely want a car that can drive me 3 hours down the road and all I have to do is sit in the driver seat and hang out with my cellphone.

    I like some of these technologies but this one is retarded. If you are not looking out directly at the road it shuts off. So you engage it and then sit there like a muppet staring out the windscreen. If that's the case you may as well drive the bloodily thing, it's not like you can do anything else!! Wait, will this even work when you have sunglasses on?!

      Sometimes you have to use a different style of thumbnail for a unique kind of video. We aren't into the clickbait stuff, but there is nothing wrong with adding a caption here and there to make the video look a bit different from our full Redline Reviews. Most of the other "Redline Extra" videos have a slightly unique thumbnail photo already.
