Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Patrick Swayze said he watched his wife, Lisa Niemi, to get the movement and mannerisms down. No wonder he was so elegant and graceful because she's a ballet dancer. I think his dance ability also helped him with body awareness.
Vida was so poised & classy 🥂
Noxema was fierce & no-nonsense 💅🏾
& Chi-Chi was a firecracker 💥
They gave stellar performances!!!
YESSSS ALL OF THIS👏🏿💯💯💯🥰
Thank you for watching this! Patrick Swayze (Vida), Wes Snipes (Noxema), and John Leguizamo (Chi Chi) took a real risk and lost fans because they took these roles back in the day. Appreciate your bee-autiful reactions!
Thank you Darling
It's funny ppl never say tyler took a risk🤔
They desperately wanted the roles and there was a lot of competition
But they all loved the film and had fun filming it! Wesley and John have said they would love to see the film bring remade!
@@Jazy1993 I hope that is never remade, I think this movie is perfect as it is
I really enjoy Vida's moment with the clothing store boy. As someone with a stammer, it warms my heart to see her treat him with patience and respect, and offering him a book she found very helpful in her life is such a kind gesture without condescension.
I always try to just be patient, they are trying as hard as they can, you know what i mean.
Oh I was so excited when Anne Baxter came on too! These ladies, especially Patrick Swayze, are so much like the beautiful stars of Anne Baxter’s day. Can we just admire how gorgeous Patrick is as a man or a woman? Such a classy, lovely man. I forgot how much l love this film.
Oh Kemi please watch Priscilla Queen of The Desert, which actually was made first, quite a different storyline but so positive and fun and beautiful. Its an Australian film, it starred Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Terence Stamp. You’d love it. A lot of Abba!❤️
I love your observations about this little gem of a film. You absolutely nailed the class dynamic between Vita and Noxeema and Chi-Chi. I had never thought of that before, but you are so right. Chi-Chi was so receptive to Vita's assistance prior to seeing where she came from and what she gave up. You were also right that Chi-Chi thought Vita's kind nature was pretentious, but it was not, of course. I like how these characters are not perfect. They are just as flawed as the seemingly ignorant people they encounter. But those folks weren't ignorant at all. They were not worldly, but they were kind and tolerant, and accepted them into their community. It's such a lovely movie, but it isn't sugary sweet either. Noxeema is my favorite of the three. I don't think Wesley Snipes is given enough credit as an actor. I feel like I know Noxeema. I've personally known several women and gay men who are JUST like that. And each of them nailed the physical performance of their characters, but Wesley absolutely killed in the heels he wore.
Yeah I heard several critics mostly acknowledge Patrick and John but Wesley the one thing they didn’t like about his character was Noxeema bringing up race which is annoying but true for a lot of people of color that are in the drag community
So glad you loved this movie. There’s another movie about drag queens that came out a year before this one called The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. It’s got more naughty humor but it’s such a worthwhile watch.
I thought that one was a better film but this one was ok.
I love this movie! I have a smile on my face throughout the whole movie. When the town protects them brings a tear to my eye & makes me happy. Julie Newmar was THE Catwoman in the 60's. She was in the tv series Batman from around the mid-60s that starred Adam West.
She was one of three actresses to play Catwomwan from the '66 series: Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, and Lee Meriwether in the spin-off movie.
Patrick Swayze was teased as a child for being a dancer. (His mother was a ballet teacher) He did a 30 minute monologue about that as his audition for the part. And he NAILED it. Miss Vida is my favorite, but they were all brilliant. Even the towns people. (The blonde that tells em there nothing important around there for them to see is Gwenyth Paltrows mother) Amazing movie. I remember watching it as a teenager, and being blown away by all performances. Loved your reaction. 🥰 it’s such a great message about acceptance and love and friendship.
Julie Newmar was one of the original Catwoman in Batman TV series.
You have such a gentle spirit, and the way you broke down the characters after was beautiful. I love your reactions. They're INCREDIBLE! lol
K.S.O., thank you for watching this BEAUTIFUL film!! And for your words in the beginning of the video. And I'm so happy you enjoyed the film! It's a beautiful, beautiful story!
Thank you too!
This movie used to come on often, and I would watch it every time! Love this movie and great acting and superb message of self-acceptance.
That Adam’s apple comment got me to when I first saw this.. so touching.
Thanks for the reaction to this sweet, funny, endearing film. The performances are marvelous, especially John Leguizamo. ❤️ Miss Clara: “Nothing this pretty could be real.” 😂 Chi-Chi: “I got more legs than a bucket of chicken!” 🤣
I just knew you would love everything about this!
I knew a lot of drag queens in the 90s and I remember being concerned about the casting, thinking the movie might make a mockery of the culture. What a great surprise to discover just the opposite! So well done!
Also love Stockard Channing (Rizzo from Grease!) as Carol Ann.
Inspired by the scene where they transformed their room, my best friend and I, to this day, when we see a dull drab room will say it needs to be "To Wong Foo'd"!! 😀
I’m glad I recommended this for you after your reaction to endgame you needed something comical while heartfelt but I didn’t expect you to cry like I did
THANK YOU DORIAN
@@ScenecrlyK.S.O. you’re welcome ☺️
I'm absolutely in love with this movie. And it's crazy thing to know that John Leguizamo had two absolutely different roles in year of 1995. Chichi in this film and Rat, a soldier of Executive decision.
Thank you for watching this wonderful movie. I just love Wesley Snipes in this and his (her) sassy attitude 😂😂 All three leads are great and the message of loving each other is so needed today. I miss Patrick Swayze so much. Kemi, I recommend reacting to "The Birdcage" starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. You would love that film as well. For more Patrick Swayze films please react to "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost". Great reaction as always. You are awesome🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂.
In many ways, the portrait was like a torch. It needs to be passed on once it’s fulfilled its purpose.
Great movie with a hero's journey plot, fabulous actors! Stockard Channing doesn't seem to get enough mention. Battered wife to confident woman and eventually a fine example to her daughter. All around just good story telling. Thank you.
One of my top 20 all time films, your reaction was brilliant to watch, the way you show your emotions is beautiful. It made me smile when you saw RuPaul and you couldn’t quite remember his name. When Chi-Chi was in danger and Bobby Ray rescued her and so many others. In the beginning drag competition there were many famous drag queens of the times. One of my favourite quotes from this film ( and I use it still ) “I ain’t driving you no more Miss Daisy” Thank you for this 🥰
Yesssssss. This movie is THE ONE, I watched this as a kid and it has such a special place in my heart. Patrick, Wesley, and John were fantastic. As well as the statuesque Julie Newmar, and Miss Ru Paul. This makes my little LGTBQ+ heart happy.
And also the fantastic Robin Williams.
Ooooh I am too excited! I love this movie. Everyone was so good in this movie.
I love this movie so much I don't know who cried more me or you. ❤ Supporting each other and acceptance was a big message for when this came out and it is still as important today.
YAY --- I am soooo happy to see you are doing this one!
Love this movie! Thanks! Please react to -Steel Magnolias 1989 -Fried Green Tomatoes 1991 -Ghost 1990 -Thanks!!!
The fabulous Ru Paul is the name your looking for. This movie is so amazing thank you for reacting to it.
They all just wanted to be seen. What a beautiful picture. Some of the interactions between Vida and Carol Ann hit very hard
😃Love this little film!❤
Patrick Swayze gave all the queens in the contest scene little engraved gold compacts after the wrap~ My online friend Miss Coco Peru ( bitter , cup crushing redhead😂 ), has a YT vid abt it~
I LOVE this movie!! The fact they used very "male" actors was brilliant. And such a great message.
Can't believe you watched this one! I love it! I saw this movie in 7th grade in the theater. I was on a date, my first date ever. I'm really happy i saw this film at such a young age because it helped me understand drag culture better. RIP Swayze he was incredible.
I'm a man from South Carolina. My mom raised me and she loved drag. I've always loved this movie. Everyone in the movie acts amazingly. Another movie she loved to watch which made me love it is a musical. The Moulin Rouge. Ewan McGregor, John Leguizamo is in it as well, and Nicole Kidman. Please watch it!
Stockard Channing playing Carol Ann also deserves to be mentioned.
She played Rizzo (the one who, in my opinon, has the best song in the movie, "There are worse things I could do") in "Grease", too.
And let's not forget Chris Penn (brother of Sean Penn), Sheriff Dollard, who played Willard, Ren's (Kevin Bacon) best friend in "Footloose", either.
Not only your reactions were beautiful but also your summary was just 🎯 made me think of things I hadn’t and I’ve seen this film 100 times!
RIP, Patrick Swayze, for playing a drag queen in this funny movie.
R.I.P. Melinda Dillon (Merna)! She died a few days ago.
You're such a sweet and empathetic soul, and this reaction really let's that shine through. I wish you all the best ♡
Omg so excited for this!!!!
😂😂😂 seven minutes in and you have me cracking up so I am clearing the rest of my queue and watching all of my favorites that you have in your drama section. Love, love love!
I love this movie so much! My daughter's name is Dorian! You are going to love it!
Thank you for uplifting abused victims with your words. That is so important.
Patrick Swayze and John legazamo we're really surprisingly lovely and drag. Before seeing this movie I never thought that Wesley Snipes would play a Drag Queen character. I thought he was too Macho for that but clearly not.
I LOVE this movie, it has the right amount of laughs and heart
Sweet, funny movie!!!!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
So many men in Hollywood fought for these three roles. I think they cast them perfectly.
Of course, you know that The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert has to be next 🤩 Terence Stamp (the old guy from Last Night In Soho), Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith from The Matrix, and Guy Pearce (from Aussie soap Neighbours and L.A Confidential)
💯%
Lord Elrond looks fabulous in a frock.
LOVE THAT FILM (and Abba too). 😂
I’ve been hoping you’d do this movie it’s just so much fun. Thanks kemi for sharing your reactions as always.❤🌈
if you like this movie you should watch "Kinky Boots" it is a cute and fun movie similar in content to this one.
Yes!!!
If you watch "Kinky Boots", please watch the original 2005 version, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor as the drag queen that saves the factory. (Chiwetel Ejiofor was also in "12 Years A Slave", "The Martian", "Dr Strange", amongst others.)
@@chris...9497 thanks. I never knew there were more than one version. and yes I meant the 2005 version.
I Love this movie!! 🥰 (and yes Chi Chi is John Leguizamo who was in the John Wick films)
Thank you for reacting to this. There aren’t a lot of reactors doing this movie. I saw this movie in the theatre when it came out and it’s underrated in my opinion.
Love this movie. Taught me everything I knew as a teen about drag.
this is a great movie, thanks
Wesley Snipes- Blade1,2,&3 Demolition Man Patrick Swayze- Red Dawn, Point Break, Dirty Dancing, Roadhouse John Leguizamo - Die Hard 2, John Wick movies, Carlito's War, Executive Decision.
This one or the most iconic movies for me and mine. When I lived in Chicago my friends and I would go out on the town, grab a pizza on the way home, and watch this movie while everyone passed out in the living room.
And now...The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. 💃💃💃
It's one of my faves. ❤❤🌈🌈🌈
You should checkout The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. This movie is good but having watched Priscilla first I couldn’t help comparing them which made To Wong Foo look bad by comparison.
The costumes were out of this world! I still want to experience standing on a bus in a magnificent dress
yesssss one of my FAV movies🥰🌈🙌🏿
I love your reactions!! this is one of my favorite movies I've seen it so many times but your analysis made me realize some great things I hadn't before and now I love it even more :) and now I'm going to go watch your Birdcage reaction haha
Yeah,…you’ll like this…
Miss Vida works out. Miss Vida works out… a LOT
The woman who falls in love with Jimmie, the cafe owner, is Gwyneth Paltrow's mom. A fine actress
To see John Leguizamo (Chi Chi) at his very best, seek out the recording of his one man biographical play Freak. He is simply fantastic as he pours out his heart on stage.
Julie Newmar…the original Cat Woman in the TV Batman series from the 1960’s. She was also the robot in the TV show “My Living Doll” in 1964-65. Yep..your eyes saw right…that was RuPaul!
This one & The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert are so funny and cute. Loved the reaction.
I love your ending message, as always. And I experienced almost being killed from 21 to 23 years old from domestic violence. I’m newly 40 now Thank you thank you thank you, thank you, for just being you. Also for being such an amazing person and your content.
I love this movie so much!
And I also love that it you love it too.
I really enjoyed this reaction.
Thanks.
I had forgotten what a good and fun movie this was, thanks!
Julie Newmar was an actress best known for her portrayal of Catwoman on the Batman tv series.
One of my all time favorite films!! Not enough people are aware.
Isnt it nuts that this movie was a box office smash in 1995 and yet in 2023 we're unfortunately seeing anti drag/ anti trans legislation? What in the world happened? It breaks my heart
Good L-rd, girl! You gonna keep the Kleenex industry in business for the next decade!
loolllllllllllll - my lungssss omh
It’s been a day so I needed to revisit a favorite movie by a favorite reactor. I REALLY how I will become a part of the honey family in 2024. Love to you and yours from Orlando Florida.
Welcome back!
I love this movie and the message it delivers about being you bo matter what
And thanks to Dorian for requesting 2:29
I love this movie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favourite movies ever. Great post-movie analysis and reaction.
Beautiful Movie.
I Have a Really Especial Place In My Heart For This Movie, My Dad when Is Was a Teen Notice that i Always like Drag shows, And Put This Movie To Us Watch Together. I Can Say How Especial This Is.
Love Your Analize Is Always From The Heart.
Love And Kindness 💛💛💛💛💛
I love this film so much! I loved it since I was a kid, glad you are reacting to it. 😃
Hello there :)
After seeing You react to Avengers Infinity War I'm glad You choose a Movie with a ....different direction .
I'm sure You're going to enjoy this one (before enganging Avengers Endgame that is)
Such a great film, and a great reaction.
John Leguizamo (Chichi) also voiced Bruno from Encanto
Nooo waayyyyyyyy. Love that.
I think you're actually thinking of Demolition Man, with Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone.
Julie Newmar was the ORIGINAL Catwoman back when batman was a series on TV when I was a kid batman was Adam West then other catwomen came like ertha Kitt for a few episodes
One of my top favorite movies 💜😁
Great Reaction, not sure if you have seen dirty dancing or ghost, both good with Patrick Swayze
At the end you mention wesley Snipes. It wasn't Judge Dredd he and Stalone were in Demolition Man together. Stalone was in Judge Dredd. but both good movies.
Thank you for the correction - you are right
@@ScenecrlyK.S.O. No problem. You do amazing reviews and you are a pleasure to watch. the mistake was easy to make.
Who would have thunk the guy who stared in BLADE and the guy who stared in ROAD HOUSE would agree to a movie where they are in drag! Granted you don't have to be dressed up all the time. I wonder if Wesley would only do it if he could do the basketball scene - it didn't add to the story, really. I love toward the end with the Adams apple part. Accept the person for what they present - not what you want them to be. The name you are thinking of is RuPaul
The basketball scene feels bittersweet. I imagine Noxy loves basketball but rarely has a chance to play.
If one watches RDR regularly they will see that there aren't many "jock queens" - so its a scene that does not do anything for me
That's Ru Paul from Ru Paul's drag race
Have you seen Twister? Would love it if you react to if you haven’t seen it
This movie had me laughing all the way through :D
RuPaul as Miss Rachel Tension!!!
The one thing they didn't get right is that drag queens don't live in drag 24 hours a day, it's like a job for them.
With the attack on drag in the U.S this is obviously important since these 3 straight men were willing to play drag queens back then.
There were a lot of important drag queens in the beginning show like RuPaul, lady bunny, coco Peru who are all still working today.
Hilarious movie and I just love your laugh lol. Great reaction.
Great movie and a great reaction to rewatch during Pride Month! Did you recognize Barbra Streisand singing after they get the car and go over the bridge? (Gotta Move). Who could hate us gays after watching a movie like this? Lol
Your thinking of Rupaul's Drag Race.
Yes I am
You have got to see “The Adventures Of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert”. It has a similar plot and came out (if you’ll excuse the expression 😂) awhile before this film. It stars Terence Stamp (who was nominated for an Oscar), Hugo Weaving ( of “The Matrix” and “Lord Of The Rings” fame), and Guy Pearce (“L.A. Confidential”, “Memento”, and “The Count Of Monte Cristo”). It was a better film than this one imho.
Nadinha imitação de Priscila 😅
This movie was wonderful but if you want to understand it a bit better "Priscilla Queen of the the Desert" was released first and I think is a better movie.
31:23 honey you’re so sweet 🥹
