A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by grief. This track is something of a culmination of the ambient pieces I've been doing recently, taking advantage of three analogue synths with a lot of character. The Matriarch, Abyss, and Odyssey are all kind of dark and textural synths, and with some spectacular effects (thank you as always, Empress, Strymon, and Eventide), they immediately put me in a mood.
@NovationTV Launchpad Pro Mk3 - Sequencer
@MoogSynthesizers Matriarch + @empresseffects Reverb - Slow bubbling stereo arp
@Dreadbox-synths Abyss + @strymon Big Sky - Pad and plucky lead thing
@KorgOfficial ARP Odyssey + @EventideAudio Timefactor - Bass
Kenton MIDI Thru - MIDI splitter
Written and performed within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

Sounds Epic - great stuff Mr Hosking. BTW have you got a mod on the Abyss? The mode selector switch looks like some kind of 1/4 jack socket instead!??
Yeah, that mod is called “a bunch of broken knobs when I bought it”! I keep meaning to pick up some replacements.
And thanks so much for the kind words. Coming from you, it means a ton.
instablaster...
Honestly Jay, you’re up there with Hans Zimmer. If I was a film maker, I would want you to score it. This could have been part of the Interstellar soundtrack. It’s that good.
Condolences for the grief. Thanks for the beauty.
NIce broo, what camera do you use?
MADDDD props. Very surprised to discover THIS level of talent ANYWHERE on the internet.
Not sure why you've labelled this dark ambient, maybe it's just me but I was expecting creepiness and tension but instead I found it uplifting and lovely! Either way, amazing work
It's really good but it couldn't be further from dark ambient lol
This was amazing, and I LOVE the bits about what you're doing.
lovely tones here, good job.
Great piece, as usual!

I live for this stuff.
Absolutely beautiful! Your music is an inspiration. The layering is flawless, very natural.
Beatiful. I love the progression of the plucky abyss. Shivers down my soul.
That was superb and great.
Thank you from France!
Really enjoyed that. Great to read the workflow. Your setup is everything on my shopping list. One day! Top notch.
From subtle to epic - hauntingly beautiful - the professor did it again,-
Thank you for all your support throughout, Mikkel!
@@JayHosking Hey my man,- People are so quick too damn you, if youre not up to insane standards, so i firmly believe that eminent performances should get the rightfull praise, - by the way - big congratiolation on the 2 new records on Bandcamp - im SO getting them ASAP ! 😘
This was amazing! It'd make for a great soundtrack to an epic movie.
Awesomeness - love it man
Really beautiful
Dude, you make opening a filter cutoff sound more expressive than I’ve ever heard before, and I’ve heard a lot of’em :)
Nice job, I too like the texts telling us what you are doing and why. Very helpful.
Really good stuff
superb melancholy
wow... beautiful and inspirational... very very good.
Pfiouuu !!! Glad i subbed to this channel !
Great track. Something about the bass tones sounds deeply satisfying. Nice you also cared about musical variation.
Nice work.
Arrrrrggg! This is Awesome
Beautiful. As has been expressed by others, sorry this piece was grief inspired. Your channel has rocketed to one of my favorites. Not only are your compositions inspired, but the detailed instruction you provide is fantastic. I learn so much from what you share on how you use your equipment. Kudos :)
Nice!!
Bass guitar and acoustic drums, it makes me want to jam to... Nice. Very Inspiring!
When you open up the filters it sounds EPIC
Dude, another awesome Jam to go with my toast and coffee..
This is absolutely beautiful. You gotta like, make soundtrack music 'cause these are really, really good!
If they made an Oblivion 2 with Tom Cruise, they should commission you for the soundtrack. Very nice. Smooth knob tweaking too!! 👍🏼
Oh wow, this is a beautiful piece of work. Sorry to see it was inspired by grief, but I understand that many great pieces of music have their roots in difficult times. Something about that can inspire great emotion in the music, something that nothing else can provoke, I believe it is a type of therapy also, and a creative outlet that helps to heal. Respect dude and best wishes!
Sorry to hear that grief was the inspiration, but this beautiful piece sounds like the best medicine. Great video from you as always, ad I really like the on-screen notes.
Really lovely piece. I don't have any gear yet but can't decide between deluge or launchpad to kick things off as a sequencer. One thing's for sure that Matriach is a must have, especially with the round robin function.
Enjoy your videos. Thank you, Jay.
This gave me goosebumps! Damn!
Me too - this dude have a very special sound and vibe - awsome,-
WOW wow WOW ... AMAZING ... GOOD LUCK
very cinematic !
Thanks for the captions highlighting what does what and why. “Pain reminds us the joy we felt was real.”

Nice!
I'm in love with your synth videos. Your channel was the final push for me to finally buy a synthesizer (I got the Moog Matriarch!) Thank you so much for your content!
Congrats! That's awesome to hear. And my pleasure. Glad it's been useful for you!
Great track, was at the LPP mk3 demo earlier this month and the ease of use if off the charts.
beautifulllll
0:58 it's touching me Jay. Thanks for sharing.
Hoskingianna ! 🌹
very nice
wow that is awesome, I just got the LaunchPad Pro now I might have to get the Mk3 version too!!
Boring night at work, nice discovery! Can't wait to listen it on my set up at home!
Beautifully sad music. Feels like reaching out for something you can't grab.
Wonderful. Seriously, this is great. I kick myself all the time for not buying the Abyss when they were in production. One of the best sounding synths ever, IMO. It’s like it’s from another world.
I think you could play this at my funeral. With a slide show of my life and the crescendo as my body is committed to the fire. It’s moving. And that’s the very definition of art to me.
Beautifully done! Great themes and spacey reverbs. The LP Pro looks like a great sequencer.
I'd love to see you put it through its paces, too! Keep up the great vids.
Jay Hosking Yeah, it’s high on my wishlist 😀.
Wow👽😳
Sorrow's trap is Lamentation , fortunately this Song doesn't fall for it : after the Numbness , halfway through it , there's the Winner's Anger when the Eyelids open and the fourth Voice enters the emotional Arena
Beautiful , my Friend 🙏
Traveling through space towards Jupiter....getting closer...passing by Titan...and crescendo entering Jupiter's atmosphere where flying in our spaceship while the ionized particles whizz by the portals....
Holy shit. Like I’m ascending to heaven.
Think there's literally more going on in the left ear but the lfo separation makes me love the right equally just enough beer to sound like a snob.
Nice! I love the way those synths sounded together! His Dreadbox always sounds amazing, I'm wondering how the circuits in the Chromatic modules would stack up against the Abyss.
Magnificent. Love the quarter note triplets (right?) on the arp bass line
Nice one! the baseline is reminds me of ‘How to disappear completely...by Radiohead.
This would be perfect for a space game like Avorion! That Launchpad is pretty nifty
It's such a great, fun, fast, excellent-feeling sequencer.
@@JayHosking That is a nice description. I might have to check one out at a store this weekend!
