I have one too and same thing, since I own it for 6 months now I dont even know where to start, 1 thing at a time but everything possible with every dash light on except airbag... But over all I really like the x5, It is a very nice vehicle when working and Im defiantly learning a few things, such as how to fix x5 coils, plugs, self level suspension inactive, ABS light, 4x4 light, fuel gauge sensor, transmission fail safe, tail light caught fire, turn signal and halo keep blowing fuses bulbs pass side, door lock button dont work, hazards dont work, passenger windows pops off track, side lights out, licence plate lights out, backup sensors inactive.... Breath.... leaks oil and burns oil blowing smoke after idle, ccv and oil separator unit plugged I think, aux plugins front and rear dead, ashtray cover wont stay closed and think thats it....for now... Other then those couple small things its really nice...lol...FML

I have the same vehicle and I found that I had a oil leak on both Vanos sensor seals you can buy them on eBay for around $12 oil was coming out of them and running down the front of the engine and then getting blown back over the oil pan. Took me about 45 minutes to change both no more problems no more oil leak

code is more than likey your
    1. valve cover gasket
2.mass air flow sensor bellow elbow
    3. vacuum line near valve cover.
    4. secondary mass air flow sensor you have two not the main one the smaller version.
    5. your secondary air injection valve.
    6. these cars are very old you can have have air leak out of multiple places, the plastic tends to get brittle and break over time. other than that there motors and transmission are 100% 👌

Motors and transmissions are 100%? You mean until 100K miles...when the timing chain guides are known to start failing, and the transmissions fail for any of numerous reasons.

Those 4.4 's need your constant attention and keep those dash lights off and no loose front end parts to trip those ultra sensitive wheel sensors and it will seriously handle and haul ass! Most issues woud fall under maintenance. Just do what the bitch tells you and she'll brighten your life!

Regarding oit leak. 9x's out of 10 the valve cover gaskets, vanos gasket and possibly upper timing cover gasket leaks. BMW has very poor quality gaskets and leak very often. Hope this helps.

I have a 2002 BMW X5 4.4 that displays these warning indicators: Traction Control, Brake, and ABS. What's odd is that they light up as soon as i turn on the car when it's warm/hot outside, but when it's winter, they'll light up after about 5 minutes. I checked the tires and they seem fine. Would you happen to know what the issue is or what caused it? Or is there a way to disable to indicator? Thanks!

Issues with BMW will stop once you sell it or just junk it , and all the issues will disappear .LOL

    Dont remove the valve.
    Release the hose, start engine
It should not spit exhaust gas when valve is closed.

if you still own this car by the time you read this your oil housing gasket is leaking thats where your leaking oil its very common with bmw poor quality gaskets were used in assembly they rushed these cars out.

Thank for the tips. Yes I still own the X5. Its been sitting until Im ready to sink more money into it. I tried to run the Carly app on it and its giving me unknown codes for the DTC. I will be trying to figure all this out soon. So many issues that I don't know where to start.
