Giussepe Arcimboldo is really a single artist, even his painting being from the 16th century they still make feel unconfortable somehow, the sensation is similar with the Modern and Contemporary art wich take me off from the confort zone. I didn't know this artist! The quality of the video is awesome as always!
Maybe it's the even different style, especially concerning the librarian. This guy totally falls out of his time in my eyes. Reminds me a lot of modern painters. Or maybe thinking back to my childhood: reminds me a bit of the German illustrator Annegert Fuchshuber, who made lot of paintings for German Kids picture books (without scientific evidence, only in my brain 😅). Like it very much...many greetings from Germany 😊
Little addendum: this is true for many mannerist painters...Just have a look at El Greco for example...His style is not very typical for his period. I have to thank you for this nice little trip back to renaissance.
Had an elementary school teacher who taught us about this guy. She took a bunch of magazines, cut out all the food pictures she could find and had us make self-portrait collages using the pictures. Completely forgot about this dude until now.
When I chose this profile picture, I didn't know the context behind it. I just thought it was nice since it matches my name and it reminded me of that one character from The Tale of Desperaeux. So I was surprised when I actually saw this video in my recommendations. Thanks for teaching me something new, ya got a new subscriber!
Arcimboldo's work has long been a curiosity to me. His paintings which use elements of nature to portray individuals, seem almost like something the Surrealists might have come up with, yet he was a 16th century painter. I would love to have had a conversation with him. :)
I wonder if Arcimboldo would have been more of a Magritte-type, some kind of philosopher, or a Dali-type, completely wacky off-the-rails character. I don't know why, but I like to imagine him as the latter. :)
I love how the comments have reached a consensus that, while this is incredibly interesting and required quite a lot of wit, planning and skill, Arcimboldo's art is still REALLY CURSED Great video as always! ♪
Very great video! I remember seeing Arcimboldo's paintings before, but always thinking of them as more contemporary. It wasn't until I was in a drawing class in college that I found out they were waaaay ahead of their time.
I love how we could (as I did at first) confuse these 16th century portraits with contemporary art. I feel like it adds so much interest to Arcimboldo's body of work. Being some 500 years ahead of your time is no small achievement.
This Arcimboldo guy is pretty dope. The elements series especially blew me away. I knew the painting you put in the thumbnail but I never saw the others before. Maybe we have something in common after all. :) PS: Thanks for the video!
Aww thank _YOU_ for the comment! I also really appreciate his series (especially the Elements), and I even considered making this video about them. Perhaps I could revisit them in a different video! Thank again!
imagine this guy as a character designer. the seconds and the fruit people in alice through the looking glass look like they were based off of his work.
I love the positive response to Arcimboldo's paintings, but I find it fascinating how everybody seems to like different works of his. It really shows how each of his paintings are all uniquely great. Thank you for the comment! :)
I’m so happy I found this channel. I watched one of your videos without seeing the viewer and subscriber counts and was shocked when I noticed them. Your work is as high quality as nerdwriter1’s. Hoping you’ll see some success in 2021!
Woah! Thank you sooo much! Reaching Nerdwriter1's production value is a longterm goal of mine, so it's crazy to me that you'd even compare my channel to his! Thank you so much! It's one of the greatest compliment you could give me! Thank you for the wishes! I'm looking forward to 2021 :)
Thank _YOU_ so much for watching and leaving a comment! Don't worry, I'll give you more! I don't intend on stopping any time soon! Thanks from Canada :)
I always thought this guy made his paintings in the abstract era and now that I know it was literally like five hundred+ years ago I'm just like... Oh. Some people were really ahead of their time. Like REALLY ahead of their time.
Thank you so much! Rudolf II is quite controversial. He's often blamed for the disastrous 30 years war which, coincidentally, is the reason why so much of Arcimboldo's art is now in Sweden. Vertumnus, for example, is in Skokloster Castle. I think I fixed the Instagram link btw, thank you for letting me know!

Aw I'm happy I was able to put you out of your comfort zone by introducing you to Arcimboldo's art! Thank you so much Elisa for your sweet comment!
The Librarian and the fire element one probably are my favorites
I feel the same way!

A revolutionary artist who went with his personal vision and paved the way for us to follow so many centuries later.

If he was still making these portraits today he would be incredibly sought after as they go hard as music album covers

Had no idea that people did this so long ago! Very cool. I love this channel, you always manage to entertain and inform!
Thank you so much!! I'm happy you were entertained and that you learned something! That's exactly my goal!

an actual time traveler, so ahead of his time
I always thought this paintings were made in modern times, this guy was truly ahead of time

This video is so underrated. It was very interesting
I love his paintings! Especially Water and Air!

Giuseppe Arcimboldo really was a genius. Nothing more to say.
very modern ,this could be on the main page of artstation
gotta love the dungeons and dragons background music
I’m generally impressed by this video and the art itself.
Incredible pieces of art. Seems like Arcimboldo created the first “Deepdreams”.
Thanks!
Very interesting video, now I wanna read more on Rudolf II. !
btw your instagram hyperlink on the channel is outdated :)

another outstanding video!
Thank you so much Isaiah!
2:01 Impressed to see a European guy from the 1500s draw a near perfect elephant
Did he use a collage to put the fruits and vegetables together before painting?
wait this is really cool
Great video but saldly underrated!
Un geniale pittore
the symbolism behind it is really cool but I still really hate this painting 😭😭 it creeps me out
I do agree that it's kind of creepy. It's why I love it! ;)
love your channel man
Thank you Felix!
it's a great video but the most cursed thing is how giuseppe was written. my gosh XD
Maybe making Rudolf II out of fruits and vegetables vas the XVI century way of saying eat the rich
His actual name was "Giuseppe"
