Glen Campbell - It's Only Make Believe (ORIGINAL)

- This was the first No.1 gold record for Glen Campbell (1970) re-arranged with a powerful orchestral backing from a version written by Conway Twitty and Jack Nance. It was also the first No. 1 for Conway way back in 1959. The song about unrequited love is about a man who plans and hopes - and even dreams for this woman to be his everything. Although he knows she is clearly not in love with him, he prays that some day she will be able care for him but laments that at present, "it's only make believe."
Who else agrees that he’s rocking this song?.
Hello Leonie, how are you doing today.....I really love this song so much
Absolutely ❤❤❤
Fantastic version brilliant
Amen and Rest In Peace dear Glen, you were taken ahh to soon from us 😢❤
The greatest song ever than didn't need a 'bridge'..or a ' middle 8 '..RIP Glen, you were truly the best...And MAN, what a great guitarist you were too.
Never heard Glenn sang this before but DANG!! Did he ever nail it.
The song the singer!!! This is what it's all about! He did everything! A unique human being indeed! Teresa the UK 🇬🇧
Doesn't get enough recognition as one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived, helluva singer as well. Not sure anyone else can match that.
We lost a great talent in Glen Campbell. He did a really good job with this beautiful tune.
I can't help but think that Glen especially liked this song. Sure sounds like it.
great observation
How the hell did 100 people find this version as unacceptable? Glen Campbell had an incredible voice and an orchestral backing. What is there not to like is version.
I've always loved this song, I think that by far is the best version
The BEST of his style of singing....RIP, he passed to early in his life...
Glen is the best one for that Song!! Hands Down!!! He is the Best Anyway!!!
Absolutley...beautiful! RIP Glen Campbell, with love. 2022
Glenn takes it to new level that nobody has been able to match.
Conway Twitty's version is still the best!!
No I love Glen Campbells version, I'm 70 years old now and my dad bought me this single when it was in the charts . Now I cherish it because my dad loved it and so do I ❤xxx
In My opinion. Glen’s is the Best!!
Conway Twitty was a brilliant song writer and lyricist and Glen put some soul in it and made it his own. Excellent!
Hello Kate, how are you doing today....I really love this song so much
Some may not like it, but over the next 30 days a whole new generation will be enjoying this rendition of a classic as VISA has chosen it for their World Cup 2022 tv commercial! I almost forgot that Mr. Campbell covered this and I have to admit that his strong vocals and orchestral accompaniment really makes this superior to the original. So good!
Up until tonight I had only heard the Conway Twitty version of this song. Within a few moments of this version starting, I was covered in goosebumps. What an incredible version of this song. What a talent!
THE GOOSEBUMPS GIVE IT AWAY !!! ABSOLUTE CLASSIC !!
Back when home computers were still popular, I had a CD burning program. I burned a bunch of Glen Campbell's songs to a disc that I still listen to in my vehicle. This was one of the songs on the list, but I never really thought it was him until seeing this video. I always thought it was Conway and left it on the disc anyway because I love the song. Great job Glen!
Warren Bewley, Elvis and other artist did it too, but Conway and Campbell were the two best.
Warren Bewley respect!
One of the top three versions of the song
Beautiful song, beautiful version, singers just don’t sing like this anymore ❤️
There are a few talented enough to sing like this today but their singing gets covered with crap to appeal to the masses.
Very true i agree with you ,,@@testticklehead
@@testtickleheadyes you’re right
Glen Campbell has become my favourite country singer what a great version
this version by all is the most beautiful ever recorded. Glenns strong vocal ability delivererd the vocals with such passion. I loved it when I was a kid, and it still gives me chills to this day. What a Song!
The orchestra string section deserves huge kudos for making that song flow perfectly....magnificent
The very best rendition of this song. A phenomenal guitar player, considered at one time the greatest 12 sting guitar player in the country.
This is the best version of this song, Glen puts so much into it his voice is fantastic. What a great performance.....
Honestly, does music get any better than this? Not in my world... God Bless Glen Campbell. From a fellow Arkie and life long fan who wants you to know that your music has been a huge part of the "soundtrack" of our lives. Your true greatness is timeless...
How cleverly stated; I like that, the " Soundtrack of our Lives?" I commented on Soundcloud that a country writer's music should be termed " Creatively Crafted Country " and he took my idea for his next ALBUM ! Yep, true story- (Phil Bowen, video "Red Sun")
The "music" can't get much better,, but the SOUND is a bit "off." On the subject of "hearing ?" Nobody out here would ever dispute that Glen Campbell's talent deserves even more than, this fifty-piece orchestra. However..Does anyone out there actually "HEAR" any keyboard sounds ? Two electric guitars plus Glen's; anyone HEAR those guitars ? Don't mind a left handed conductor, but find is strange he never ever moves his right arm , or hand, until the very end, at which time he raises both very HIGH? Expert aerial camera shots are avoiding filming all three of those aforementioned musicians- Why?Loving the Oldies and the great lyrics , but truthfully, I'd a preferred Glen really playing his guitar and a maybe four piece band of "all active" members, and maybe a couple of strings . (Like four on each instrument, right ?) THIS fifty-piece-orchestra did nothing but provide "mood", which is always nice. And, being a supporter of many youth orchestras, this provided jobs for many of them too-along with music copyists ; Surely Glen approved this "setting," but I just had to say it. Comments welcome-Try to change my mind if you prefer. Thanks. .
This GA girl loved him too. Singer, musician and actor! He was blessed with rare talent but we were blessed to witness it. I miss him.
My favorite version. This is the first version I heard as a child. Kool still!
Euphoric
Wow this blew me away. Full orchestra is always good.
I sometimes forget just how good a singer Glen was. It's good to hear this one again.
Gives me chills!!
@@Lily-lt5pr Me too
Check out Robert Gordon singing this
I'm with you on this one!
Happy hearing him Once again .👍
The way this song was written to build up up up , was pure magic. It sounds as if the chords continue to go up the neck of a guitar, but it is, Only Make Believe, they just go back and forth. What an Awesome and well written song. HATS OFF
to the writer.
Conway Twitty
Harold
Best version by a country mile. Rip glen
What a GREAT ARTIST/LEGEND/ICON !! We'll never ever see another like him, R.I.P. SIR.
Just...beautiful! ❤
I thought only Conway could sing this song...but Mr. Campbell does a stellar job with those very high notes.
Glen added the modulation (key changes).
Elvis did it well
Damn right! Glen had amazing vocal range. A superstar talent, IMO.
I’ve seen him sing this in Branson at least 20 times. He never disappoints.
I love Glen's version so much. I cry every time I hear this song. This was the first song my husband and I danced to as husband and wife 1970...How young we were then. I lost him 16 yrs. later in a car accident. R.I.P. my love.
Hey, Pat.x
Pat, your post made me cry. I danced to Conway Twitty's version back in '73 and '74 with my then husband. Good times!
Pat Moss, But, you remarried after that haven't you?
Just heard this by accident looking for Conway Twitty version. Saw your post thru tears missing my husband who also died in car accident, 4 yrs ago for me. God bless you and I hope you are healing.
Pat, So very sorry for your dear loss.
Miss this legend, sounds as good as Twitty. Rest in heavenly peace.
Those of us that have had the pleasure of meeting Glen in person realize that soon his memory may well be gone, but the heart and spirit lives on, not only through his music, but also his children and Glen himself. Walk with Glen if you have had the great fortune to have known him, and go with his music if you have not, having learned what a real human being is and what he has meant to all of us.
Mr. Glen Campbell OWNS this song. Best version of all. Smooth, quality voice. So talented. RIP. The world has lost one of the best.
It is a Conway song written by Conway
Of all the artists who have sang this song, there's no one who does it any better than Glen Campbell!!! No one!!
He does that better than anyone I ever heard
Loved Conway Twitty , but Glen did this the best with so much emotion hands down! 👍😁❤
What an absolutely flawless performance! Just an amazing voice! God bless you Mr Campbell RIP 🙏🕯️
I hear so many old songs I love by different artists and then you run across Glen Campbell doing a cover of it. He was and is a truly awesome talent. Wish him the best..love all his music.
What a voice 👏
What an astounding voice Glen had. Every song he did was faultless & as for his guitar abilities, his playing on so many other artist's songs, testify of that.
Glen was under appreciated in just about everything he did , he was probably the best guitarist ever, next to Roy clark undisputed sorry rocker's .they wont argue
It’s rare for a cover to exceed the original, but when Glen released this three or four octave rendition he did something with it that Conway, as great as he was, never could. Glen owned it. In my opinion, the best.
MY FAVORITE SONG, I GREW UP LISTENING TO HIS MUSIC, AS AN ABUSED CHILD,, HE BROUGHT ME SO MUCH COMFORT VERY NITE, I FELL ASLEEP TO HIS RECORD EVERY NIGHT, I WILL MISS YOU, I STILL LISTEN TO HIS MUIC AT AGE 53 TO FALL ASLEEP TO, R.I.P. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU
Bless your heart 💜 . I hope you have had some healing
Ditto!
I agree, so much joy to hear this song. God Bless you friend.
wishing you the best!
I visited him 3 times in person and the closest I ever got to him was Ashley and Jimmy Webbs son in Jacksonville, Fla. I just wanted to give him a pinch since his Bday is April 22 mine is April 11 and he is 6 years older than me, I still love to hear him sing or watch him on YOU TUBE. THE SOUTH CAROLINA OLD GAL. MELL nEXT WEEK I WILL BE OLDER.......
This man is a genius, vocally and with a guitar
What an artist. A rare talent sorely missed but his legacy will live on
One of the best performers of our time, and soon, we will lose him...what a terrible thing to happen to a great singer.Enjoyed every tune he played, every song he sang.
Wow, just wow! I really don’t know who sung this better, and I don’t take that comment to lightly. That’s because Conway Twitty, was the master of this song. However Glen Campbell has been widely excepted by his peers, To have the best raw natural talent of most if not all country singers, he just blew this song off the chart.
Bon Jovi also cut a great version.
What a fabulous song. To appreciate the vocal range required in this song, just attempt to sing along with Glen. He absolutely killed this.
This is a Conway song but man oh man Campbell did a HELL of a job. Damm
Couldn't say it better! You're so right.
He really belts that song out!
Brenda Rawlins no one can do that better than conway get real !not even close
Well said +Brenda Rawlins! I've loved this song for about a mere 25 years, well before I discovered the Conway Twitty version. This song is just SO emotional, be it sung about a man/woman, or a place a person would rather be (as was my case many years ago). Vale Glen Campbell...
It's too late now, but NOBODY could "steal" a song and make it his own better than he. I never heard anyone complain about his covers of their songs either.
Glen knew a masterpiece when he heard it..................and he delivered it beautifully..............I LOVE THIS SONG...............when I die, I want to hear my husband singing this to me in me left ear.......................and I will smile from ear to ear while I am dying.....................: )
Hello Susan, how are you doing today...I really love this song so much
A true romantic-you!!!
Absolutely a classic singer sadly missed. R. I. P. Glen
I like Glen's version the best. I am sorry I was too young to ever see him in person. His documentary on RUclips and Netflix is so sad about him having Alzheimer’s, such a devastating disease!
OMG...GLEN KNOCKED THIS ONE OUT OF THE PARK. GOOD BY CONWAY...GREAT BY GLEN!!!LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
Hello Connie, how are you doing today....I really love this song so much
BEST. EVER. VERSION.
Glen Campbell is awesome. An amazing voice, an adorable man, and a wonderful performer.
If you listen with more than a little interest, Glenn really knocks it out of the park. I liked the Conway version but listening to Glenn's he is the tops. Sing it Glenn.
I bought the 45 of this song and played it over and over! RIP Glen, thank you for the joy you brought to so many people through you gift!!! Love, Peggy
Hello Peggy, how are you doing today....I really love this song so much
Incomparable. He could do it all.
ABSOLTELY BEST VERSION!!!
Love this song. Glen did a masterful job; wonderful voice as he climbs up the neck from C to D and voice pure as mountain air .
Absolute.classic.song.by.a.legend.
R.I.P Buddy! Singing with the angels now!
God bless him. RIP, Glen. We'll always miss you, always remember you.
Glen Campbell, way too much talent in one Body. Incredible Guitar player / Dinger / actor - good looks. Way too much talent. I really loved his singing and playing. He also played session for Frank Sinatra with the wrecking Crew
Beautiful song and beautifully sung, RIP Glen xx
One of the all time greats glen campbell had it all
Loved Glen. What a talent!!!❤
One of The Greats....A Masterpiece of a rendition.
Glen was up there with the best one of the great voices in country
Glen had an amazing voice. I regret never seeing him perform live.
The greatest guitarist of all time
Saw him live in Dunedin NZ many years ago. One of the best live shows I’ve ever had the pleasure to be at. It was an incredible show.
This is absolutely the very best version of this song. Orchestration and everything is perfect. The original was done by Conway Twitty in the year of birth.
Whatever Glen sang he made his own... as is evident here... Just brilliant.. He will never be forgotten as long as time itself. xx
2019 I still LOVE Glenn to this day. What a man.
Hello Brenda, how are you doing today.....I really love this song so much
Glenn Campbell is one of my all time favorites. I grew up listening to him. Fantastic!!
Love this song so much, so beautiful.
I loved this particular version. He sang his heart out, I think!!!! Glen at his best!!!! He was so controlled but he sang all out.
I had a Glen Campbell album with this song on it WAY back in the day. Best version ever. Sorry, Conway.
The best version! Great orchestra and Glen's authentic voice.
Cover
@@rahmaspeech Cover? explain please
@@kenneth7027 he’s saying it’s dubbed
@@roberthyde5393 Thanks. Of course it's a "cover" of the Conway Twitty original. This goes without saying. If it means "lip synched" , maybe. Many live performances have been altered in this way for video's, etc. Look closely!
Glens Is The Best By Far!!!
Damn this version gives me the chills Glenn nailed this Conway Twitty classic Rest In Peace to Glenn and Conway Twitty
Love this version even more than the original.
Best version of this song hands down Glen Campbell rocked what an amazing voice gone but never forgotten.
Yep..hard to beat full orchestra......unbelievable performance
I absolutely love this man ❤
This song is dedicated to the one woman I can never have.... so I'll always have to dream about her!!
Most beautiful music I heard in my life. Best singer singing this music.
This always brings tears to my heart. Memories of my late fiancé who died in 2008, the year we were to wed. Rest peacefully Benny ❤

English is not my Native language, so I had a little hard to find this song Over the years.
Today in my homeland I'm a musician by profession, and a part of my musical personality made from this song.Thank you Mr.Glenn Campbell from the bottom of my heart for the great joy you gave me and the world When you sing this wonderful song.

Glen does this song so much better than anybody else.
What a fantastic version. The build up is great by Glen and the Orchestra tops it off superbly. RIP Glen
