    I agree 100% on the part about the emotion...and the fact that Rossi didn't seem too excited last year. True, he may have been in shock, but he could have at least acted like he was enjoying it. Ice cold is a good way of describing it. Same with Montoya's 2000 win. He dominated that race, then seemed to shrug it off like it was no big deal...and it was hard for me to pull for him after that. Of course when Montoya won it again in 2015, he reacted more like Sato did today, because he appreciated what it meant. Of course Sato got a few breaks, but that's racing. The first car to make it to lap 200 wins. He and the Andretti team didn't luck into the win. They earned it and deserve it, and hats off to them.

    Alonso had the fastest average speed when he retired with a blown engine. He was battling Takuma Sato at that time - who ended uo winning, so Alonso could've been right in the mix if the engine didn't blow. Not sure why he didn't get the vote for rookie of the year.

      The award usually goes to the highest finishing rookie.

      How could he get rookie of the year
      Its one bloody race. He didn't do full season and was in racing in F1.

    • @leadlefthand
      @leadlefthand 4 года назад +2

      @@kennethkilleen8758 Indy 500 has its own "Rookie of the Year" where the first timers at that event are ranked based on there performance. And Alonso that year proved to have the best performance among rookies as he was clearly in the mix for victory up to the time his engine blew. The Indy 500 rookie of the year award is different from the IRL rookie of the year award.

    I attended the race and for the first time I felt emotional that Taku won. A true underdog fighter that stands in a long line of Japanese drivers that bolstered the series. But Sato is different from the likes of Matsuda. Sato has always had potential. I am so glad to see him win! Thanks for another great year at the greatest spectacle in racing!

    I've been watching any races or listen to them on radios for over 50 years best in the I ever saw . The pageantry in respect for the United States and the military was great . And it didn't matter what nationality the driver was the crowd loved him if he was doing his best . Kind of makes NASCAR look dweebish

      Max Google memorial weekend and hopefully that will educate you a bit and show some respect in your responses to the fallen soldiers that fight for other nations to be free. USA does not cause wars if you haven't noticed but everyone wants us to take care of everyones bullies such as North Korea and Iran. so next time get your facts straight before you start sharing your opinion and pass down a judgement.

    • @JohnSmith-ii5cm
      @JohnSmith-ii5cm 7 лет назад +1

      Erik get off your high horses. Iran & N Korea are everyones bullies? Please tell me the last time N Korea or Iran ever invaded someone? N Korea has never invaded anyone EVER since there existence.. Iran hasn't invaded anyone since the Archamenid Dynasty 2 thousand years ago. Get your facts straight...Now lets look at the US? Over 60 states have been invaded by the US SINCE WORLD WAR 2. Do you know how many MILLIONS have died because of those invasions? Now granted some will have been for good reasons... but not the majority. I would never disrespect a soldier... They're doing their job but the politicans of the US need hanging.

    • @wfderik

      John Smith and they never will because if they ever did you would have a change of opinion since your freedom would be taken away. so ya we are fighting for everyones freedom

    Helio must have had an Andretti curse of it's own unique way since the 1999 Motorola 300 (CART) where Michael Andretti won at gateway and Helio was 2nd - The day before the 1999 Indy 500 race.
    Since 2003, Helio hasn't won in a straight up battle for the Indy win when running 2nd and ending up finishing 2nd place. 2014 and now 2017 when one of Andretti's cars ended up in Indy's Victory lane instead of him. This has to be a new lore for Indy and Helio besides the more famous Andretti curse... Michael Andretti (Gateway 1999), Gil de Ferran (2003), Ryan Hunter-Reay (2014) and now Takuma Sato (2017)?
    Haven't anyone noticed?

  • @125guitarmaster

    Hm. I think I have to disagree with pass of the race. Helio's passes on Sato and Chilton on the outside of turn 3 were both high risk and he pulled off both of them within two or three laps. I know Sato's pass was obviously for the win, but he also had more power than Helio's Chevy engine. I think those two passes by Helio's were much more exciting, not to take anything away from Sato, though!

    How can Ed Jones be rookie of the year, having Alonso lead about half the race and have the fastest average lap of the race? The only reason he overtook Fernando was because of a lucky yellow flag...

    MOST people WEREN'T cheering for Helio! We want the 4 time winner club to NOT include ANY driver with ANY of the 4 wins being "IRL 500 wins". FTG didn't care about history and tradition but MOST Indycar fans do!!!
