- Whether you're one of the thousands in attendance, or one of the millions watching at home, Indy 500 pre-race is special. But it's also one of the most choreographed pieces of the Month of May. In this two part episode of Behind the Bricks, Doug Boles takes you behind the scenes to rehearsals for the Indy 500 Pre-Race Show to give you an inside look at how driver introductions, NBC and in house broadcasting and more come together to create Indy 500 Race Morning.
The pre-race build-up to the Indianapolis 500 is unlike any other sporting event in the world. To experience 350,000 people falling dead silent during the 21 gun salute and the playing of Taps sends a chill down your spine.

The pre race used to be a smooth continuous flow of events, culminating in the race start, precisely on the stroke of 11:00 AM. Then television started intruding, pushing the start time to 12:00, then 12:15, then some nebulous time whenever. The smooth flow of events became a choppy mishmash of starts and stops to indulge the TV commercials, old traditions were ignored and were lost. It's just not what it once was, and I wish we could go back.
It's still really awesome. We can live with change or gripe gripe gripe.
2:10 - did anyone else think--like an idiot--"woah, the guy they got to play rahal looks just like him"
hehehehe. I was confused for a second why a guy in a Herta team shirt was holding an Ericsson sign until he said they were just fans (and not, say, designated people from each team)
Thought the flow was as good as it had been in a while it seemed. The video address before SSB was special and the singing of it I thought was grand. Flyovers (plural! beats any ballon release). Well done. I do miss the former clergyman prayer were he’d say god speed in the difference languages. But things evolve.
People whining about how they wanna go back to “how it use to be”. Waaa 😢”no balloons” 😭 Waaa “they let women in the garage’s” waaa 😭…

I totally forgot about how the Ivocation used to end with the word "Godspeed" spoken in several different languages. That DID sound really cool.
Bring back the balloon release!!!!!
