I don't think that anyone else could play a better curmudgeon than Walter Matthau. Such a fantastic and funny comedic actor. I enjoyed some of his non comedic roles as well. There will never be another like him. Rest in peace, Walter Matthau and thanks for the cinematic memories. ♥️🙏
I've wondered if one of the reasons why Jack Lemmon died so soon after Walter Matthau's death was due to how grief stricken he was over his death, like in the way when one of an elderly couple dies, the other dies soon after? Because that kind of grief is often too much on the heart after age 80 or so. Walter and Jack were very close for such a long time, from "Fortune cookie" and "The odd couple" in the 1960s to the "Grumpy old men" films in the 1990s.
My all-time favourite Walter Matthau film is Hopscotch. His on-screen chemistry with Glenda Jackson was magical. Even today, it's still razor sharp and very watchable.
My favorite role of the late Walter Matthau was (U. S.) Sen. Russell B. Long in the 1991 Oliver Stone film 'JFK.' Of all the cinematic collaborations between Matthau and Jack Lemmon, 'JFK' is the only film in which neither Matthau nor Lemmon appeared simultaneously on screen.
The narrator says: "He was named 'Walter Matuchanskayasky'." (0:48) According to "Matthau: A Life" by Rob Edelman and Audrey Kupferberg (Taylor Trade Publishing, 2002), which is quoted in the Wikipedia article "Walter Matthau" as well as in the Snopes article "Walter Matthau", "Next there is the matter of Matthau's surname. [...] When he was born, his surname was Matthow; after World War II [...] he altered it to Matthau. [...] It never was Matuschanskayansky." (p. 2)
Walter had a connection with CBS TV..he appeared on a tv drama and on two episodes of Paul Tripp's and CBS TV's pioneering educational kids tv show:"Mr.I Magination".
20 years later, he’s still my go-to for a good laugh. RIP.
if he were alive he would be acting in films today, excellent actor and comedian
Me tooooo

It was almost a year later to the day that Jack Lemmon died.
Rest in peace Mr. Wilson🙏
One of my favorites. Versatile.
"When The Odd Couple hit the big screen his film career took off" - odd since he won his Oscar two years prior.
Anytime I need a boost of good humour and peace, I’ll binge watch anything with Walter Matthau. And John candy lol
My idol to this day (Jan 2024) and favorite actor. I own hard copies of every single movie and tv show he ever did.

@ My youtube username is the model plane Walter used in “Charley Varrick” 1973❤️
*🌹 R.I.P. Walter Matthau 🌹 1920 - 2000*
I best remember Walter Matthau as Mr. Wilson in the 1993 Dennis the Menace movie.
Me too! I had loved that movie as a kid!
Lots of famous actors in that movie.
When he died, I remember thinking to myself it was too early. It would have been interesting seeing him do a few films into his 90s even 100.
He was a legend!
He was a great dramatic actor which this obit barely touches on.
If you young men haven't seen the Bad news bears please check it out.
He would have been 100 THIS year!!! :) :)
Yup on October 1st
That's amazing!
his last movie during his lifetime before he died is a meg ryan movie called hanging up

I was 11 years old like when it happened😐
RIP MR WILSON 😩😭😭😭
We miss him and Jack.
Oh Mr. Wilson!!!
Buttermaker.....best Little League coach ever! Iconic role.
Yeah, absolutely. I also like him in Dennis the menace, as Mr. George Wilson.

I watched all of his movies. Walter is the greatest
When I was invited to my aunt's 15-year-old party🥳 Many people went in also, hundreds of them. I don't know like how many🙂
1920-2000🥀🌹
very good actor
Amazing, he started that rumor about his last name and everyone believed it, even to this day. 🤣 such a great master. RIP
What happened to Walter Matthau?
Walter had a connection with CBS TV..he appeared on a tv drama and on two episodes of Paul Tripp's and CBS TV's pioneering educational kids tv show:"Mr.I Magination".
When I was on summer vacation before I've came to summer school☀️🏫
RIP Mr
Rip
Felix, you're driving me crazy!
"Best Damn Actors" lol, that's how you know he was one of a kind on screen
Dan Castellaneta copied Walter's voice for Homer in Season 1 of the Simpsons and the Simpson shorts from the Tracey Ullman Show
Walter Matthau, based on the "Charley Varrick" poster, would have been a terrific "Dirty Harry". With all due respect to Eastwood.
God bless his soal
Why is this on Blue shoe? You sue, blue tube, koo koo kachoo tube? "Get another actor. PLEASE"
He was great, if he could played scrooge
