The 707 design with the sweepback of the wings and the low slung engines in pods under the wing was a first in commercial aviation. The rest of the jets like the DC-8 and Convair 880 and 990 just followed the leader. It was something like the F-86 Sabre in military aviation when it first came out.
I so remember the four engines Belching out thick Black smoke from each engine when the power was poured on.Filling the sky with smoke..the sound was increadable the whine the blades ringing clearly
I always loved this aircraft as well as the 747. First flew inter city in a 707 in 1970. Once I flew from New York to Karachi on a 707 with a stopover in London. Total flying time around 15 hours
707 and your JT-3 don't producing beautiful sound but a symphony. Smoke and the smell of kerosene finished off the flavors of a good spotting. True, today are other times without noise, odor or smoke. Spotting ensues but I have been able to live that time.
Awesome video! Any time 3- and 4-engine jets are featured is a good thing, especially those high pitched screams and roaring thunder like those on the 707 that would rattle nearby houses, along with the 4 trails of black smoke, LOL. Brings back great 1970s-80s memories of visiting relatives who lived right next to JFK Airport in New York. Came across the channel and immediately subscribed.
I still see VP-BAP operating out of Van Nuys every once in a while. 727-100 is the most beautiful looking jetliner in flight and still looks thoroughly modern.
Man!! That just brings tears to my eyes watching those 707's takeoff and land. There's a small percentage due to the enormous amount of thick, black smoke emitted (likely a reflex action). But the majority of my sadness comes from an absence of character in today's designs. Thanks for the great videos and excellent sound! 😊
