first , noisiest commercial jet engines were turbojets , the engines in this movie are JT3D 's turbofans , , among the noisiest jet engines at the time , modern big bypass engines have far less and disappointing sounds , specifics for JT3D-3B engines : one needs to specify at what distance and which engine make and model , approach noise at 2 nautical miles from the treshold 110.3 EPNdB / 99dBa , for take off noise under the flight path at reference condition for a height of 1450ft : 110.4 EPHdB : 94.9dBa , max side view 140-150 dB

Great video. I've always been convinced that the 707 was highly overbuilt. That might be because of Tex Johnston or the longevity of her military variant sisters (KC-135/E-3 Sentry AWACS) or both. She's still a beautiful aircraft.
Polits forced that #1 engine to fire using wind drag. At first I thought they were gonna go with three engines but now I see what they were doing and they got it going

Stage 3 Engines
No "blow in doors" on nacelles on JT3Ds; seems quieter. Never understood why 707s had the blow in doors and no DC-8s with JT3Ds needed them. Guess it was a Boeing thing. Seems to me it just adds weight & complexity.
