    thank you for the tech tip of sticking a piece of paper towel into the number one spark plug hole, my engine is in my car and it was pretty hard to rotate the engine by hand and hold my finger over the hole, but I used your tip and it worked out perfectly, I installed a brand new distributor in my 1975 Chevy Monte Carlo today 5-29-2019, the car fired up the first turn of the key, and runs great, thanks again

      That's great to hear and I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks for your support and enjoy driving the Monte Carlo

    I found If you can connect a vacuum and pressure gauge to it you can turn the engine over. You know what part of the stroke you are on

    Does the mark on the balancer always lines up at 0 when you’re at tdc on compression stroke? Or can this be way off the 0 mark?

    • @SLJ2137694
      @SLJ2137694 3 года назад +1

      It should line up but it can be way off and that is a problem.

    Can you tell me when you are on the compression stroke where are the two dots on the timing chain? No one ever mentions it

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  3 года назад +1

      If I remember correctly you actually want both dots facing up for the compression stroke.

    Cool video question what is the second Mark on your damper for on my 350 i have the same marks 12oclock and 2oclock timing

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  6 лет назад +1

      Tyran Ducksworth thank you. One is for true top dead center the other is for the 34 degrees total timing advance that we used years ago when this engine was running in another car

      I noticed when my Jeep 2.5 engine when I was bringing the piston to tdc I also hade two marks one for tdc and the normal timing for “0” I barely understand it my self

    My timing tab is on top of timing cover. Can I install a new one on the 2 o’clock position? I am having trouble getting the timing light or even seeing the tab because it’s covered up by the water pump!!!

      It either won't run or it will run very badly and shudder and spudder and may backfire.

    I put my thumb over it and I heard no hiss maybe the engine doesn't have enough compression for that? 🤔

    So I live in the mountains and I really don't have help from Neighbors it's Christmas Day and I'm finding top dead center so both valves are closed and I really don't have any help and I'm not taking my radiator and shroud and everything out but my timing mark I can see it and it's very close to my zero so I think I can go ahead and drop my distributor in and just advance Japan positive or advance to negative on my distributor to get it time to properly so that's basically what I'm going to do

    • @jonnathanhernandez1178

      It will only hiss when you reach the top with the compression even if the exhaust valve reaches he top which is the many people consider tdc by accisent and its not the one that will hiss or blow ai on your thumb
